Hi i bought Htc Desire from ebay from uk seller and i am waiting for him to ship it to me on monday. I asked for serial and imei numbers and also he sent some pics. It seems that mobile was ok but when i went to check Imei number on numberingplans IMEI analyse it said: Mobile Equipment Type HTC Desire G7 (A8181)
i am confused about that "G7" as when i searched google it seems that G7 are some chinese clones of HTC Desire. When i tried imei number of my brothers desire on the same site it showed just HTC Desire A8181 without G7. Do i have a reason to worry?

I also checked my IMEI number on that site.
Mine one is also: HTC Desire G7 (A8181)
So no need to worry as T-Mobile can not give me fake mobile.

Hey folks,
I just made an ebay purchase for an A8183.
I recieved it today and the box barcode and labeling match the imei and model number, but under the status setting it says A8181. The back says next g and telstra plus the box matched the sellers description.
The seller is allowing me to return it. So everyone planning to scoop one up, make sure the seller sends you a picture of the status page under settings, and it says a8183.

My Desire is A8181 as well. What's the difference?
Frequency for hsdpa/umts. a8183 is for att in the usa.
it's possible that the seller flashed an A8181 ROM. if you haven't done so already, did you test to confirm you could/could not use at&t 3G? what is the model number under the battery? A8181 or A8183? i mention this because if i used a UK ROM cook's European ROM on my Telstra Touch HD, it would show a UK ROM number. it didn't matter tho, i could still connect to at&t 3G. oh yeah, my HTC Telstra HTC Desire also says A8181, but i can connect to at&t 3G without a problem. the seller flashed a UK ROM on the device.

The build number as I investigate show test keys in their tag.
What radio are you using? Its the baseband I believe.

Yeah I am using the nextG branded and I got it from the telstra shop, so it is legit, but I just checked mine and it says 8181, though mine has been rooted, did its have any of the telstra cooked in crap or not? if not then I would say it was actually legit.

Presumably you are using this on AT&T in the US. If so, if you can get a 3G connection, it's an A8183 and you are good to go.

Definitely AT&T, the lack of 3g is what tipped me off. But there was no telstra software apps, just branding and packaging.
Also the baseband was not the same as the Telstra specs, and the rom version was not found anywhere within xda or google. I think the kernel version ended with the word test keys. 1.21 and
But I got my refund and reordered an unopened today from A GA company.
Is it possible that the radio or rom was to blame for the lack of 3g. I think it can from my should I say lack of experience porting android over windows.

OK, I do know the difference between the A8181 and A8183. I am seeing quite a few cheap chinese dealers selling something called "HTC Desire G7" and the photos & specs look identical to A8181.
Can someone explain the differences please?
G7 sounds like a T-Mobile designation similar to what they did with the HTC: Dream (G1), Magic (F2f I think) and Hero (G3 or G4)

G1~G7 means htc's android phone:dream, magic, hero, tatto, nexus one, legend and desire

As mentioned before, the G7 on the chinese websites seems to be way cheaper than what you can get in Australia(see TradeTang). However, I was just wondering if the phone would work as well as the A8181 on any network, and if there is any trade off in terms of quality?

on my T-Mobile branded Desire HD AND on my GFs T-Mobile branded Sensation we can only see the Dashboard when logging in to htcsense.com.
On the unbranded Desire Z of my colleague i see way more and could edit the phonbook, see the sms and so on.
HTC sais that there is no differrence in htcsense.com between branded and unbranded phones but i don't think so.
Is it right that htcsense.com is only complete when you own a unbranded phone?

HTCSense.com is broken since January, and the lazy tech crew at HTC seems to be unable to fix it. The behavior you are experiencing is not normal, but it is not rare either

Im looking for a stock vodafone branded rom for the desire z, ive checked all the threads here and on shipped roms as well as a google search or ten but i still cant seem to find it anywhere, id be very grateful if someone could provide me with a link or upload
Did Vodafone brand this phone? I'm pretty sure they didn't, I've never seen a branded Desire Z, only the "white box" versions.

They did, when I got mine it was Vodafone branded, when I got it repaired through HTC, it came back with a Vodafone RUU. I'm not even on Vodafone though

I can't find software update menu in my phone.
I want to check this phone is original or fake.I bought this from from local dealer from sri lanka. I ask for HTC E9 plus original phone and after buying this phone I saw a small sticker displaying model number as HTC E9pw.when i searched on the internet about this model i realized HTC E9pw is a Chinese version and not available google play store. but which i have purchase has google play store and i suspect this dealer has cheated me(selling with a custom ROM). only i want know from you whether this phone is original?
