[Q] How to access file on fat32? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
I partitioned my sdCard for using RCMixHD v3.0 D2Ext rom (fat32 - primary, ext4 - primary, ext4 - primary, swap), and then installed it. After, when i connect phone to computer, i am able to access fat32, then copy files there, and in phone, when i open astro file manager, i can't find those files...
Where are they stored, and how to access them?
Thanks!

Not to question your intelligence but did you unmount the sd card already?

Yes my phone is unpluged if you mean that. When i open astro, in /mnt folder i have:
/asec
/sdcard
/secure
When i go to /sdcard, i have all files that was there before i installed this rom, and my question is how to access fat32 partition?

That is the fat partition.

I don't know what is happening... I uploaded pictures, to show you... In My Computer, it says that type of I:\ is Fat32, and you can see the properties of it, and also you can see that there are two files only, but when i unplug device, and go to astro, then /mnt/sdcard, there are no those two files, and astro is showing me totally different files and folders (Android folder, downloads, DCIM, etc...and files that was before i installed new rom). When i go to search, and type one of those files, for example: ztest-BRAVO-BFS-012111, he can't find it..
Thanks for your answers1

Please dont use astro _ its an antiquity on android world...
You will find your happiness with Rootexplorer _ the best application for rooted devices with fat32 partitions and ext2/3/4 partitions.
Plus you can add permissions, copy/ move/ multiple selections/ paste every file from both partitions _ full configurable and very effective, especially when you mess up with apk's and roms

last time i installed manila 2d..
but this think happened lastime copy file from PC
you've booted without the storage card inserted, just delete the 'storage card' folder (usually straight away after boot), rename 'storage card2' to 'storage card' then reboot! presto! wm will sort it out itself! no virus!

yes it works.. but did u knw how can be liike that?? i mean my storage2?? i think its a viruses.. before i know this guide, i just hard reset my fone
it does it because mail/messages is using storage card to store messages, so it makes the folders itself if card not present, as all folders are on root, the storage card gets renamed to '2' when inserted. no virus, its a feature!

[Q][Solved] Strange file browsing problem...

When I browse my sd card, and try to open a specific folder using Root Explorer or the "Root Browser" tool in Rom Toolbox, the folder appears empty. However when I browse my sd card on my PC while connected to USB in disk mode, or with the Script Manager app, or while in recovery, the folder contains all the files I have placed there previously that I would expect to see. Permissions for the folder are set to "--xrwxr-x" just as all my other folders on the sd card are set to. I am rooted (obviously), running Deck's 1.3d with Tiamat 3.3.7, and using DarkTremors a2sd.
Any ideas why the files are not visible in certain apps?
Edit: see attached screenshots.

If you are connected to pc in sd card mode, you will not be able to see sd card contents

Bibbity bump.

You can always backup the contents, format the card, then move what you need back.
It might not fix it, but it definitely shouldn't hurt.

Thanks, plainjane. I will give that a try in the next couple days and let you know how it works out.
Problem solved: renamed the folder in question. Must have been a bad character that the explorer didn't like.

how to access System/

So upon plugging in my phone (newest iteration of clean rom) windows takes me into and lets me access the sdcard/ extension. I am trying to install an app by copy/pasting into the system/app directory but am unable to navigate to it via my computer. I'm unable to access it via root explorer because it says the folder is read only. anyone able to shed some insight into this situation?

In root explorer when you nav to /system, at the top you'll see a button that changes it from read only to read/write(see pic). If you wanna access /system from your computer you have to do it with adb.

Airdroid will also allow you to access the system folder from pc. Good luck
In cleanrom you can choose your file manager, each one has a different way of allowing your pc to write to storage, mount, umount, etc. Go through the settings and you will find what you are looking for.

[TRICK][HOW TO] link system apps to sd card to free more internal memory

Hello everyone,
We all know that galaxy y has low internal memory..
So to increase internal memory we use link 2sd method..but we cannot link system apps directly..so here is trick to link system apps to sd card and to free more internal memory...
things needed:
1) rooted sgy
2) second partition on sd card
3) link 2SD installed
Link:https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=link+2sd
4) file manager/browser
Link :https://play.google.com/store/apps/...oogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=rom+toolbox
(link is of rom toolbox lite..in which u have to use root browser)
Now..
steps:
1)check your internal memory :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) now
Go to data/dalvik-cache/
And select all...
Then untick third party apps .dex files and untick
'[email protected]@[email protected]' and all '[email protected]@......dex'
Files.....
3) move all selected files to data/sdext2/dalvik-cache/ here
4)open link 2SD
5)press menu >> relink all application files....
6) and reboot your device...
First Reboot may take long time...
7) now check new internal memory..
8) it should show to all system apps like :
You are done........
Now to unlink system apps
Go to data/sdext2/dalvik-cache/and delete all files and reboot device....
Press thanks...

Can't mount /storage/extSdCard after partition SD Card CWM NOT WORKING AT ALL

Hi, I'm hearkenoath and I have to bear with a Galaxy Fame GT-6810L ;P Not complaining so much recently though.
I partitioned mi 32 GB SD class 4 Card Adata (if the brand helps) using Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition like sayhellotwoheaven posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126363 I followed his steps and numbers. Even though I knoe that partitions should be only 20% of the total space.
And I know, I know: maybe our kernel doesn't support EXT4. I'm using Corsifame ROM from this forum but the perfomance was pushing me to smash my device against the wall. So I was interested in swapping virtual memory AND I KNOW, VM has a reduced number of R/W cycles and potentially can fry my SD/internal storage.
I used this helpful thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50143050&postcount=101&nocache=1&z=8882311745546758 and set it up to full ZRAM usage and Swap partition (since the other options don't worked for me)
The result was superb, so much better that before or with the 32 GB card not partitioned but the space ended in 9.99 GB only readable trough the phone and with the Kies installed.
My problem is this: the SD card cant mount, obviuosly I can't flash zips from CWM (only using /sdcard0) or backup and that stuff. I tried umount /storage/extSdCard/ and mount/ from CWM. Also can't cd to that directory (but I feel like never can't)
What can I do?
My root was with VRoot if helps. I appreciate all input.
P.S. I followed this tutorial and got Backtrack 5 running in our humble device. I always thought that my device would freeze
