Anyone tried this on their EVO? I just ordered up a bluetooth adapter from ebay for $20. Wondering if it works or if I wasted my money. Supposed to be able to read dtc's and clear them if the cel light is on. If you have tried it let new know your experience. Include what bluetooth adapter you used and what kind if car you were working on.
thanks in advanced.

I personally haven't tried it, but if its bluetooth compatible [which the evo is] it should work. Sometimes I use my laptop as my evo "speakers" when I'm bored.

Well I'm just saying the device should be able to read the internal flags of the system [if led is on ect], and do all the fancy things it should, so I think you're all set. As far as the "headset" goes:
1. Turn on bluetooth on both devices, make sure both are discoverable
2. On the phone, scan devices, it should find your computer, and click pair, it'll show you a code, right it down just in case it doesn't fall through in the next step
3. Wait about 30 seconds and you should get a notification of a device trying to connect to your computer, click it, and it should have the same pairing code, click okay and you should be done
Now, on the phone, start playing music, and it should say "playing through blue tooth headset"

Let me know how it works out for you! I am excited to get mine in the mail to test but I just ordered 2 days ago. 10-21 days for shipping from china. Hope I didn't get ripped off.
Post results and link to device you bought. Would like to know how well it works.
I am using http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MQ89X4/ref=oss_product and it works really well with Torque. Torque does keep telling that it isnt recieving data properly sometimes when looking in the settings but I havn't noticed any issues. I love it. Used it to figure out my MPG at different speeds
I'm using this $20 adapter with Torque. Worked so well that I had to buy another. My friend kept my first one.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLUE...t=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item336441a084
Torque is excellent. It does everything I need. It will clear the codes and will show the readiness indicators so you can know when it's ready to go in for your emissions check.
I have an 07 Legacy GT with a Cobb AP. I have been thinking of diving into this arena so I will be following this closely.
workd freaking awesome... been using it to pull CEL codes for a while.... though it is very vehicle ecu dependent... not all ecu obd connections send all the good stuff...
08 ranger wont send timing info... where as 09 civic si does...
it works real well to see if GPS and car Speedo are synced...
little things like that kinda bother me but not like you need it unless you are tuneing the car for performance... or something...
I've had a great experience with this combo. Saved me a bunch of money from buying a standalone reader that can only tell you the CEL codes.
I've used it on my 03 sentra to monitor my o2 sensors, clear codes, read codes, and just playing with other things. Can't remember which adapter i bought, but all those china ones are so similar it won't matter much

The gauges all work great for me and I believe them to be accurate. The highest boost mine has shown with the grand prix gtp is 12.2 psi. I think stock is 7 if I remember right and well mine is not stock so I think they are accurate. I couldn't resist the urge to stuff a smaller pulley on the sc to get more go fast.
I'm a small shop owner in orlando and I bought the cheap 20 adapter about. 8 months ago. It works great with the exception of some Ford vehicles get buggy with this particular adapter.
The wow factor alone is awesome when my customers watch me bust out my evo and read and clear their codes.
And the recent ui change torque just received put it over the top.
It doesn't read ABS codes as of yet.
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......
I just got a new adapter (same one as before). I was testing and thought for sure I got a bad device. Turns out it's fine. The pairing code changed.
My 1st had a pairing code of 0000, this new one is 6789. After I figured that out, it paired fine, but still couldn't talk to the car ECU.
When I got home, I tested with my 1st device to make sure everything else still worked and it did. So, before complaining, I tried the new device again. This time it worked. I think the difference was that I was in a parking garage during the first test and couldn't get a GPS fix. At home, I did get the GPS fix and everything worked.
thanks guys! I think I am going to go ahead and bite the bullet and order mine along with the anycom bluetooth to ipod dock connector.
thanks for all the input!!!

Hey guys. So I just got my bluetooth ODB adapter in the mail and wanted to test it out on my 02 Infiniti with the Torque app. I was able to pair the adapter with my phone but it said it was only paired not connected. I tried numerous times to get it to pair and connect to the phone but it would only pair.
Ok, so having paired it with the phone I opened the app and went to the ODP Adapter section. This indicated that everything was connected and working properly. When I went to the Live section where it shows your cars stats live that was working. The only thing that wasn't working was the most important thing...the Fault Code section wouldn't load. I don't remember the exact message but I think it said ECU has no fault codes.
I hope all this made some kind of sense. If anyone is familiar with this app can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Perhaps u have no error codes to clear. Btw it does not show in connected after a pairing but it works. Shows no error codes on my car but i do not have a check engine light on

No fault codes is good thing.
If you get any fault codes, then you have emission problems.
There are not suppose to be any codes, they mean trouble and something is broke.

Yeah and usually if you have a fault code you would already know since on most new(er) cars an indicator light will go off.
Disconnect your MAF sensor, or a wheel speed sensor, go for a short drive. Guaranteed to trip a MIL.
The speed sensor will trip the abs and or traction control light but not a Check Engine light. The maf will for sure though along with several other sensors.
That's right... Good point! leave your gas cap off, that will definitely set off a fault code.
Just finished repairing my 2002 silverado with this app and my Bluetooth obdII scanner...
Best $54 spent! First repair and the combo paid for itself.... Had a faulty O2 sensor, a quick run to oreily auto parts, and within 20 min my truck was like new again
Highly recommend !
I actually just got mine yesterday and started messing around with it. So far I think its great. I had the same problem at first that it paired but not connected but you have to make sure you go into the adapter setting and choose to connect it to the reader. The only thing I wish it did was clear the CEL. Other than that it is a great setup.
What OBD dongles are you using? Price $? Link?
Thanks!
I have had this app for a year now and love it! I have been using an adapter from ebay (about 30 bucks from china) and never had any problems.
Fyi.
When you pair your obd dongle, it won't show connected unless you have the app running. When the app is not in use and you look at bluetooth devices it will say paired but not connected.
Once you turn app on it will be connected.

I bought it from a different seller but it looks just like this one. It has yet to fail me on any car I've tried it on, but sometimes you have to turn the app on and off and tinker with it to get it to connect. This is one my favorite apps.......been using it since I got my Evo.
OP = Depending on your car, disconnecting the MAF sensor may not even allow it to turn on, but you can try it. I can tell you my car won't turn on if I unplug the MAF. As other people mentioned, If you don't have any "check engine" or warning lights turned on in your dash, the fact that it's not throwing out any trouble codes means it is working correctly.
Sometimes you have to turn the car on and not just leave it in start

Yea, they're all the same part with a different sticker on it. Look at the design of the plastic case, the position of the lights, the ridges on the side, etc. I agree that this is some of the best money I've spent, too. Also, the dev for the app is always on point fixing bugs and updating features. I've used it to trouble shoot other people's cars and made several jaws drop with this app on a few different occasions. Not to mention all the extra live data it gives you that you would normally have to buy and install individual gauges for. This app is a MUST for any car enthusiast.

Anyone figure out a way to take screen shots with this app? I am trying to diagnose a problem and need to email a screen shot, but ShootMe requires the accelerometer to shake and this app seems to tie up the accelerometer. Tried using shout or block light sensor to trigger the screenshot and they don't seem to work reliably.
Has anyone tried this? It looks really cool with a lot of possibility!!

This is the module I'm using with Torque. Seems to work with it pretty well for the most part, haven't had any issues with it anyway. I'm also using it with a few different programs on my laptop, and with certain software it'll even read the extended codes for my Ford truck (transmission, airbag, etc).
If the module wasn't so expensive for this software (the Garmin module), I'd probably pick it up (or if it was compatible with anything other than garmin's software).
I have it, tested it.
I've actually used it. I've got the EcoRoute HD sitting on my desk. Most of my thoughts can be found in my article over on CNET. (I can't post links yet, since I'm mostly a lurker, but just search the site for "Garmin Mechanic app for Android" and look for the Hands on article.)

When your check engine light comes on, the Mechanic app will allow you to check the error code and--in some cases--clear it, but it won't tell you specifically what the code means. You'll have to know what you're looking for or search for a solution online. Most OBD-II readers work in the same way.
I've been meaning to buy one of those bluetooth USB scanners and purchase the torque software... does Torque allow you to reset CE lights?
It does, but the current release of Torque broke the generic reader code, so it's not syncing. I'm sure it'll be fixed soon though.
I need to get out there on my truck and check the other systems that torque won't read (I have software on my laptop that reads the transmission, powertrain, and 4x4 codes as well as the regular stuff).
The guy who writes torque has posted on his site that if the proprietary protocol on the Garmin interface is mapped, he'll add it to the torque software, giving an alternative to their software.

The Roadster look nice. Even though my 2011 VW GTI has built in bluetooth, I hate the lack of dedicated buttons for its function to make it work. I have to fumble thru the in dash menu, which though not much of a hassle makes its use somewhat inconvenient (damn am I lazy or what? lol)
I have the rokr head phones also and love them but roadster is way better. And lol i dont think your lazy i use my fathers and honestly my roadster is more user friendly and easier to use. Quick question: Can you still listen to cd's or in my case, a usb connected device (flash drive, mp3 player etc) without disconnecting from the FM frequency? As it is once I pop in a cd my head unit displays the cd GUI functions & not the radio.
You can still use them ofcourse but i dont need to i have all my cds on my phone. But yes you can still use them it will just reuire u to switch to fm when a call comes in. So basically u would have to push the fm button on your car. The roadster will stay in fm mode. Another great thing about it is it shuts off when you arnt using it to save battery but as soon as u get in the car again it can sense it and auto turns on. Its very cool

looking at the play store, I think I want to get Torque Pro as the software, but i'm wondering what hardware to get. I don't mind it being wired, micro-usb. don't need fancy bluetooth or wifi scanners. i just want it to be good but not overly expensive.
any recommendations?

Just as a heads up...if you plan on using it for logging, the bluetooth ones typically read pretty slow. If it is just for code reading, that is pretty decent.
wow that is awesome. and so cheap. I'm really only looking for reading codes so I can spot those issues when shopping for cars and whenever I get a check engine light. my mechanic is a close childhood friend and he's got the $5000(+?) computer + scanner setup but i want this for smaller things so I don't have to bother him all the time.
I'll get my hands on these and report on how it works.
I paid close to thirty over two years ago for that same unit and I don't regret it at all.... works great. the torque app is one of the better if not the best app keeping up to date. I highly recommend this set up

why did I think this would be a several hundred dollar set up?
anyways, I'm hoping it's good. already ordered mine with expedited shipping. i'll wait to get torque when I receive the hardware.
thanks everyone!
I also can confirm that bt obd2 scanner and torque work great on my sch-i535 with jb

Is there something like this but to read RPMs and fuel compsomtion on real time or something like that?

This can read rpms in real time, and a lot of other things. I'll take some screen shots when I head out later.
are there any bluetooth obd-II readers that *don't* work with the GSIII? I was looking at a different one, so just curious if there was a certain type to stay away from.
I have this one: http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/obdlink-bluetooth.html
It's worked great for me so far. Other than some PIDs not pulling because Ford wants to use proprietary codes, it's pulled everything I could want. I've used Torque, DashCommand, and a few other apps I can't remember right now, with no problems.

I'm happy with mine, the little I've used it.

This one has some good reviews, too:

Lets be clear. the BT OBD2 has no limits. its a "dumb dongle"
the "intelligence" is in your car and in the software you run.
Torque will read just about anything SO what "YOU" can read is dictated by what the manufacturer of your car elected to make available over the ODBII data pipe.
fuel air and rpm are usually available.
that makes it sound even better. awesome. can't wait to get mine. should be here monday.
I actually just got the bafx scanner and bought torque pro. Its pretty nifty stuff and not a bad price.

This is all you need along with the torque app. It's the exact one I'm using.

Yep, I have the same setup. Works perfectly. The Dev for Torque also updates regularly, so he is staying on top of new cars.
And any US car made after 1996 is supposed to have an OBD-II connector, usually located under the steering wheel near the fuse panel (for most cars made in late 90's at least.)
Looks like fun! That ebay link doesn't list 02 Toyota camry but I know it has a obd2 port.. Maybe it's just not listed?
