good day everyone, i would like to ask how to change custom rom.
i have a rooted desire hd and flahsed coredroid v2.3 but i want to try different rom like the leedroid. how do i change to another custom rom? do i just go to recovery mode -> wipe -> flash? or do i need to do other stuffs? please help me. i'm still a newbie and i still lack knowledge on android
Recovery, backup, wipe, flash done. You might need to install a gapps addon for the market. Just flash the zip after the rom.

thanks for answering, how do i apply a rom update? i mean i put the .zip file in the sd card root right? then how do i flash it?
Reboot into recovery, install zip from sd card, install custom zip, flash it. If you're upgrading within the same rom there's no need to wipe.

Take the zip file you want and move it to your root SD folder. Reboot into recovery and choose that file with choose zip from SD option. Then just flash it just like you did for your rom. This is the basic method you use to flash anything to your phone.

and do a NAND BACKUP FIRST !
Both methods above are correct. And to add the cherry to our ice cream of helpitude, if the theme isn't obviously on when you reboot the rom, check the theme manager app in your app drawer.
What recovery version are you using? If its clockwork 3.0 then you'll need to use something else (either an order version of clockwork or amon_ra). This actually happened to me with cw3.0, I was able to flash a Rom fine but no themes.

You can flash themes, they just have to Edify compatible, which a lot aren't at the moment.
hi, i'm just new to the forum... greetings for the good stuff i found here
i've got a desire z unbranded (no carrier logos or similar) just permrooted with the help of xda wiki... now i'm stuck with some doubts
according to sw informations on my phone i got radio version 26.03.02.26_M, is it ok for installing a rome like virtuoso or is it better to update my radio?
if radio is ok i don't know what i have to do to install a rom (just have to put in the sd card and run rom manager??) and all my datas in the phone memory will be deleted installing a rom?
i have many files in my sd-card after rooting (superuser.apk etc...) can i delete the files pushed with adb or i will do something bad?
thanks in advice and sorry for my bad english
First welcome to the forums.
You don't need to flash a new radio, although if you find you're getting very poor reception you might want to consider it.
To flash a rom you need to download the rom.zip file, and put it on your sdcard.
You can then either use Rom Manager to flash the rom, or reboot into recovery and do it.
You should do a backup of your current rom first, in case anything goes wrong.
And wipe data/factory reset and cache when flashing different roms.

Tnx for your help what app i can use for making backups? The one in rom manager is enough?

Yes Rom Manager is enough, or you can reboot into recovery and select backup from there.

Hi, I have my phone unlocked via htcdev. I installed CWM by alquez, but it doesn't detect it in ROM Manager. I have tried going into recovery from rom manager, then rebooting from cwm, still nothing works. Only rebbot to recovery works in rom manager. Any solutions?
The CWM from Alquez is unofficial not supported by rom manager dev i think. The same thing was with samsung galaxy ace , don't flash recovery from manager you can get brick...

1/ Download and put the CM7.2 nightly zip from Alquez on your SD card root.
2/ Go into CWM Recovery
3/ Wipe Data/Factory reset
4/ Wipe Dalvik
5/ Format System from Mounts
6/ Install Zip from SD and choose CM72 Nightly ZIP
7/ Install Zip from SD and choose CM7x GAPPS
8/ When done reboot to your clean CM7.2 install
So, for now, we can delete Rom Manager then?

okay, I just installed cm7.2, android market wasn't there. I installed an apk. it doesn't let me create a Google account, takes me to some exchange account. please help. and why does cm7 use adwlauncher? I thought it was something like sense quick help needed.

It's non sense ROM.
I didn't like it too, so I just flashed sense rom.
Anyway, you can install any launcher you like, and use it as default one.
About google account.
That ROM doesn't have anything to do with google's apps, so you'll have to install gapps.
Find it somewhere, latest version is from 28.8.2011 I think.
It's .zip file, just flash it through recovery.

It was in the instructions.
I like non sense roms.Too bad WS is not officially supported by CM.
But maybe now, when most of us have the opportunity to install custom rom, we get full support.

Can anybody help with CWM7 ?
I've tried to load this onto my phone but I keep failing. The app does not load. I cannot access any recovery, albeit standard or CWM. Everytime I try from the the bootloader screen and enter recovery, The phone gives me a Black Screen with a Picture and a Red Triangle in the middle and nothing else happens. I then have to reboot the phone.
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something.
Is there a step by step guide to help make this work for me.
I have searched for a couple of days now and I cannot find anything that for me.
My phone is S-ON and Bootloader Unlocked via HTC-Devs.
Any help from you experts out there will be appreciated, even if it's just pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

Hello All,
I want to flash my stock rom with some good custom ROM like Acronium or XperiaMod or CM7.. Can anyone give me a stepwise solution of how can I do it? Also, can anyone tell me how do we change the default kernel? What should be done first? Flashing the custom ROM or changing the kernel? Please help.. Thanks.. Sorry I checked many posts here on xdadevlopers, but I dint get a clear idea of how to do it actually..

Using search you could have found all the stuff.
Steps on how to do it:
1. Check what the ROM needs (kernel, baseband).
2. Download the stuff you need and put the ROM files on the SD card.
2. If another baseband is needed, flash it with FlashTool
3. Now flash the needed custom kernel using fastboot
4. With most of the custom kernels you get recovery
5. Boot into recovery by pressing the back button during boot.
6. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
7. Flash the ROM via install cutom zip
8. Enjoy the ROM
Hello all,
I'm a new user to HTC phones. I just purchased a rooted Desire HD that currently has a flavour of Jellybean installed which is some kind of CM10.
I don't really like the rom, I prefer the stock feel with Sense.
I have root and flash experience with other phones, using cwm etc. However I appreciate there can be issues when flashing from Jellybean to Gingerbread for example. Some phones lock bootloaders, have different basebands etc.
So my question, would be an easy transition from my current CM10 to a gingerbread rom such as Android Revolution? Is there anything I should be aware of or is easy as flashing the new rom after a full wipe of course?
Thanks.

Many thanks for the help.
Would I be right in thinking, most DHD roms can be flashed with either cwm recovery or 4ext recovery, or any recovery image for the DHD?

You can install the recovery system with the installed cwm. There is an option in this app. Then simple save the rom zip e.g. for Android Revolution HD on you sd card and boot in the recovery system. Then you can select this zip on you sd card for installing rom after full wipe. For me this is the best way to install a new rom. Do not forget to make a backup with the installed recovery system. If your phone rooted you can use titanium backup to save all apps and data.

cwm using the recovery system too to flash custom roms. You can browse in cwm for various roms but it contains not all available and existing roms. Its the decision of the developers to integrate his rom in the rom manager. Here you can find the stuff which can download via cwm directly.
Thanks for that. I was meaning the cwm recovery not the cwm rom manager. Sorry for the confusion. I meant if my phone has cwm recovery (by Koush) I can use this recovery for flashing dhd roms or would I be better flashing a different recovery?
I have never flash a custom rom on a HTC phone before. I usually use cwm recovery on other android phones to flash a rom, create backups etc.

CWM recovery is just fine, thou 4EXT is a much better recovery. Of course that is up to you, but both recoveries will work in your DHD.
