I am using TW launcher and a few Sprint and Samsung apps on stock DK28. I want to flash a new ROM with EXT4 but don't want to spend hours resetting up my phone, home screens, Sprint and Samsung apps. What is the easiest way to flash a new ROM and put back everything exactly as is? I see most ROMs now wipe and add CWM3 for you but they also remove TW Launcher and Sprint Nav and the rest of the apps.
Thanks.
Download titanium backup donate and it will backup all your apps and data to your SD card then automatically re install them on your new Rom.

I did use search and after hours of sifting through unrelated posts because of mistagging and errant ramblings I did find that you there are edify versions of the apps that need to be installed. That is why I am asking this question specific to EXT4 and edify scripts. I found some links to these apps off of the Midnight ROM pages but no specific order to install them so that all my stuff is exactly as it was only better. Maybe I misunderstood some of the posts I read and did not state my question correctly. Do the Sprint and Samsung apps have to be edified to work correctly on an EXT4 and edified ROM?
I am trying to save time not spend more hours searching. So far everyone has been great and are willing to share their knowledge and experiences quickly with their answers.
Thanks.

A friend of mine has a Samsung Galaxy and he mentioned to me that their latest recovery image has the ability to back-up/restore all google apps to the sd card. When you purchased your Hero, you purchased the google apps so are intitled to make back-ups. This obviously helps with regards to future custom ROMS so the dev doesnt need to include them on their ROMS so they wont get any nasty letters off google, then when you've flashed your new ROM you just restore your G apps and everythings fine and dandy.
I was wondering if this is something our devs were looking into or are already on it?
If there's already a post on this I apoligise, I had a quick look
Could you point out the exact name of the recovery image?
You don't need a recovery image for this - there are apps in the Market (e.g. AppManager) which allow you to backup and restore your applications to SD card and this includes the Google apps.

Dave

yeah, true Dave, but wouldnt it be so much easier to back-up your G apps while you're doing a nandromid back-up?
I was purely for ease of use, i just thought it made sense
Marginally easier, but not enough to worry me personally. If custom ROMs came with an AppManager preinstalled, the difference would be even smaller.
However, it certainly can't hurt to have it in the Hero recovery image! I'd suggest firing off a PM to Amon_Ra to see if he could add it to his recovery image. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124

Cheers Dave, im quite new to all this, it just seemed easy from a beginners point of view
Nandroid back-up, g app back-up, flash new rom, restore g apps
Having never used app manager to back up apps, it didnt cross my mind tbh

+1 on that. I looked at the recovery image you posted a link to and it has a lot more functionality like enable/disable root etc, as well as G-app backup and restore. It would be really nice to have something like that for the Hero too.

Not all apps. Some of them are protected.
Yes, I know, but the post was specifically related to the preinstalled Google apps. The recovery image listed has an option to backup Google apps.
You don't really need to backup protected apps anyway, because they are almost always paid apps and therefore permanently linking to the Gmail account you use for the market. In addition, if you are rooted, you can copy the apks off manually anyway.

After rooting my sprint evo 4g my market no longer works. I have tried the advice from gat (gadgets and tablets) but that did not work. What do I do???
Need more specifics. "Not working" is very general haha
Does this mean:
1) Won't load
2) Won't download apps
3) Isn't showing up at all
4) Is just force closing like it's its job
It will let me even search for an ap most of the time but will not let me download and will force close every time. This puts a damper on tethering because I cannot download the wireless tether after root ap. I'm still on clockwork mod and rooted via unrevoked
I'm actually downloading another ROM, MikFroYo 4.5, in hopes that flashing another ROM would give the market another chance to work properly. All the people I know that have rooted androids, including one with an evo, have fully working markets and can still download aps. I am not sure of another way to get the wireless tether after root or titanium backup. I have been trying to learn from forums and google but I seem to be coming to a dead end on this topic. It seems to be happening to some other people but nobody has given them a useful answer it seems. The best answer I found was from GAT but they were specifically doing the process on a tablet and after trying this process my market was still a lame duck. Also, while someone is checking on this thread (thanks so much by the way, this is the second time I tried to get some feedback on this forum and the first went by unanswered for about a half a week), what would be a good ROM that would not take away 4g capabilities, let me get an ap back like sprint t.v. but still allow most sprint aps (nascar, blockbuster, nova, etc.) to be deleted (although I think I can do this with titanium backup if I can ever get it downloaded), improve speed and battery life, and not be very glitchy/buggy?

Okay, go to the 2nd post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900584
There's a .zip for the stock android market. Boot into recover (if you don't have rom manager, turn off phone, volume down + power, select recovery) and flash the zip. Should install the working stock market. I used it when I uninstalled updates using Titanium Back-up and it deleted my whole market.
thanks dude i'll check it out.

eww, I had high hopes but it still force closes when I try and download wireless tether. Any other suggestions? In the mean time I'm going to see if using another ROM might help the situation...maybe give it a fresh start or something.
Yeah same story after new ROM...not able to download anything yet anybody else had the same problem and came out on top/would love to hear your solution?
What rom were u running first? Try flashing a stock rooted rom? If that doesn't work try ruu but leave s-off so it's easy to re-root quckly.

clockwork standard untouched from unrevoked and now mikfroyo 4.5...still no luck. I'll try another ROM but I think I have to have a new market or something like that. Is ruu unrooting?
Are you wiping data and cache each time you flash a new ROM? If not, you probably need to.
Are you restoring apps with Titanium Backup after flashing the new ROM? If so, only restore user apps (i.e. don't restore system apps). I've seen some squirrelly things happened when restoring system apps.
Last thing, from your home screen, try going in to Settings...Applications...Manage Applications. Tap on the "All" tab at the top and scroll down to Market and select it. Tap on the "Clear Data" button under Cache.
think i got it under control
You need to reflash gapps if you flashed a new cm rom

This isn't a Q/A as such more of a discussion on a subject im sure alot of us could find helpful - and i'm certainly willing to learn :fingers-crossed:
After flashing a new Rom i guess most of us use Titanium Back-Up to replace our apps on our phones pretty quickly but is there a faster method than the technique i use?
My Way; After flashing a new Rom your phone doesnt realise it has Titanuim Back-Up installed and even if the new Rom comes with a file explorer im guessing it cant detect TB as its backed up somewhere inaccesible......
So usually i;
Sign into my google account,
Goto the play store,
Download TB and the Pro key (bought previously)
Open TB and reinstall all my apps......
Is that the fastest way or is there another shortcut i might have missed?
you can create a flashable zip in titanium but it doesn't always seem to remember your key

I didnt know that! i guess if its a bit tempermental then its best for now to stick with the tried and trusted method.
On the side regarding TB - after flashing CM10 and folllowing proper procedures i usually have a pop up in TB that ive never seen before....
I download TB and the Pro key from the Play Store after flashing and on opening TB the first time it says something like 'your phones ID has been changed and this can impact downloading things from the play store' then it gives me a few options and i usually choose to restore my devices old ID.......
Does this sound familiar to anyone?!! :fingers-crossed:
Here is what has been done to my OGP so far. I think I have it all in the right order.
Rooted
Root Checker - by joeykrim
Titanium Backup - free version
OGP Value Pack upgrade
FreeGee - Lokified "unlock"
GooManager - to make sure I was unlocked and able to boot CWM recovery
SD Maid - to clean up excess baggage and remove benign data. I only have a 256mb SD card in it, just to try it.
SD Speed Increase - To manage the size of the cache for a future purchase 64gb card
I've installed and deleted probably hundreds of apps since getting the phone. I'm new to Android and figured I'd like to try all sorts of new apps and then realized I didn't like a good many of them and deleted them. I understand that Android likes to leave baggage behind when deleting apps!!!
My phone is a bit laggy now (sometimes 2 or 3 seconds to refresh home screen) and I'd like to clean it up. So, what are my options? If I restore to factory stock, will I have to install everything all over again? It was a PITA to get all of my 100+ iPhone contacts and just as many Notes migrated over. Will a titanium backup automatically re-install all of my current apps (strange thing is Ti made a backup to the phone itself, which seems useless if I restore to factory stock. Won't that also erase the backup?)
If a restore is in order, might I be better served installing TWRP instead of CWM (again, looking for ease of use due to newbie status).
Now that I'm "unlocked" do I even need to have Titanium Backup, or will CWM or TWRP do the same thing?
I see from some reviews that TWRP might be better than CWM. For a newbie it seems that TWRP is the way I should go. The thing is, IIRC FreeGee installed CWM and didn't give me the option to go TWRP. So, is there a workaround...or can I install TWRP on top of CWM (or some way to delete CWM, before installing TWRP)?
How would you proceed in bringing phone back up to speed, and is there some way to then re-install all of my apps and contacts automatically?
For a minute there I thought there was a new ROM for the OGP. This thread belongs in Q&A section. I did mine in different order. I updated to the new firmware first then root then FreeGee's CWM recovery. After that, I uninstall/disable all the bloatware.
As for backing up contacts, I usually update the contacts in Google Voice. That way, doesn't matter what phone you get, as long as you sign into the google account, the contacts automatically transfers into the phone. Not sure if Titanium has auto restore feature. I mainly use it in manual backup and restore.

I saw the thread, " Root for LG Optimus G Pro E980(AT&T), E988(HK) + CWM + TWRP (*Updated*)" here in this section and figured it was related to my particular issue, so i posted here. Please excuse my intrusion if i posted in the wrong section. I respectfully ask a Mod to move this to the proper location if necessary!
Happens more than you would think. If this is the worse that happens to you today, it's a good day.
I am getting my OGP tomorrow and haven't had a lot of experience with this model so I will let a more experience user reply. And hopefully, a mod can move this to the proper location.

Hey guys, I have been a regular reader of your forums now for a few months. I am still learning so forgive me if I come off as lazy and unwilling to learn, or flat out dumb.
I sometimes get bored and search the web for ways to improve my tablet. I started by rooting and getting custom recovery, xposed, and various root apps just trying to improve performance or learn a bit more. Recently I had come across a list of which system apps are safe to remove. I backed up system apk and odex files and started deleting. My SD card was taken by my sister and she wiped it so she could put music on it. I don't have any real issues with how my tablet is running, but I can no longer open the Memo app without it crashing immediately. From what I have read, I believe my Touchwiz was deleted (if that is possible?) I did also delete my Prepaid installer.apk
Basically, I want to know if what I said makes sense to why Memo keeps crashing; is there perhaps a way to just download any system apps and put their respective APK's back to the system/app folder (or perhaps all I need is the Prepaid installer.apk?);and a little off topic, but how do I make the device status to Official rather than custom and should I even bother with anything OTA for updates.
Thanks for listening to a novice try to bs his way through new tech lingo and sorry if I spoke incorrectly, posted in the wrong section, or any other number of rookie mistakes I may have committed. Xda forums are an absolute goldmine though! Keep up all the great everyone, I hope to become a more active member in the future.

This is a theoretically long work around, since I was going to give it to you only to realise I no longer have it either xD.......I suppose if you can get a hold of a new sd card, look into Titanium Backup, its a pretty useful app but it requires root permissions. Then if you can find the stock rom for your tab, there should be one somewhere in the development forums for 7", you can flash the stock and root again and install titanium, then backup the memo app to the sd card. Then restore your previous ROM state and install titanium again, switch the folder options to the path where the backup is on the sd card and restore it to that ROM.
As for TouchWiz...I think that's the OS GUI so it's most likely still there if you're using the tab. Not too sure about the prepaid ap though, but if it came with the stock then the above process should work as well.
