Hey guys,
I know there must have been a tonne of people already asking this question and fair enough too if you are already annoyed with it.
Right onto the main question at hand:
I have incubus' Super Froyo v16 installed via NAND on my OKTA Touch (HTC Vogue) and I am wanting to go back to Windows Mobile and try out 6.5. Simple enough to answer right? Now for the difficult part. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and all the solutions thus far have only been for Windows O/S.
I could run the RUU through WINE but I'm not sure if it will have the same effect or not.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Ok so I managed to find HTCFlasher for Ubuntu 10.10 and have gotten NFSFAN's CUSTOM GENERIC WM6.5 ROM.
It took me a few hours to download, I've gon over my data cap and have been throttled, UnRAR'd and put my Vogue into bootloader mode, flashed the ROM onto it and have removed my battery and popped it back in but when I power on the phone again I'm still in bootloader mode.
HELP!!!

You need to use the htcflasher console and run...
Code:
set 16 0
task 3
I think... can someone confirm? It's been a while...

Cool, just done that and am re-flashing the ROM as we speak. If it works then I shall donate you enough moneys to buy a beer
Ok it didn't work
EDIT: Ok, installed Windows this morning too and I tried the RUU.exe that came with the ROM and it couldn't even see my phone yet Ubuntu can. Stupid Windows lol
No, man - you flash with htcflasher, then run those commands with the bootloader console, then restart the phone, and that should be it.

I was in the same boat until a few minutes ago.
For me the trick was plugging to USB cable into the back ports of my desktop PC. I had tried different ports in my laptop, the front ports of my desktop, and the battery-in-battery-out thing. I also did break down and get a cable from Radio Shack. I thought I could cheat with a powered USB hub.
Now I am back to stock EC05 Froyo. Only trick is finding a place to download an EI22 or EL30 rom now that all the mega-upload sites have been taken down.
Many thanks for all the suggestions. I almost bought an Epic Touch -- which I really don't want.
I dread the day i upgrade too...im thinking touch or the nexus that sprint is getting in march i heard. The funny thing is after i unbricked my phone..i manually upgraded to el30..rooted my phone..and stopped..im actually enjoying the stock experience lol..i guess since i havent played with it in over a year...the battery life and signal is actually pretty good..i went 13 hours with 82 percent left...impressive. I just downloaded ViciousMIUI and installed on to my GNex, first the contacts app kept on crashing (Android.Process.Acore) but we all know how to fix that...
And then I noticied, that my on-screen controls had gone... I'm currently restoring my codename Android ROM, so I have got enough time to ask, if anyone else has had this problem with this ROM, or is it just my phone, again...
I would appreciate quick answers...

Don't use ROM Manager - it's ****. Download it from the ROM thread, compare the md5 and flash it yourself. Don't rely on an app
Have you tried wiping everything and installing again. Sometimes all it need is flashing again for an error free rom

It has nothing to do with being on contract. Basicly it is one if these options:
1) Bad download. This CAN happen from ROM manager also.
2) You messed up the install, you said something about messing with SystemUI so that may have been it.
3) Your phone is borked.....not likely at all.
My bet is 1 or 2.

So, this will probably be the stoopidest question of the day...
JUST got a new Macbook, am playing around with it now. Can I use it to flash ROMs and that kind of thing, or do I have to use the wife's PC?
(I'm told I have to buy a copy of windows to activate bootcamp, and that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.)
Thanks in advance!

Well your gonna need a pc or anything running ubuntu (linux) to root it and then after that you really don't need a computer. You can literally do everything from your phone. hope that helped a little

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Hey man,
if your already rooted you just need to be able to transfer the zip files to your phone and I am pretty sure you can do that with your mac. since you flash them from recovery on your phone you dont need a computer other then to download and transfer the file! so yes you can do it!
Just d/l the ROMs on our phone over wifi. No transferring needed

Yea, you don't use your computer to flash roms, so it doesn't matter if you have a Mac or a PC. It only matters when you root the phone, after that it doesn't matter.

Just need some questions answered/ suggestions.
I have ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavillion DV6z, and it works.. but is very crippled. It took me to hell and back to get my screen to work.. even though it won't detect my monitor but displays and I get random graphical glitches. My internet won't work through a cable anymore... and is supper slow and unreliable. I had to frakenstien my wifi drivers to make wifi even partially work. I have the windows wireless drivers for linux installed, as well as some other official drivers for my RTL8189ce wifi card that I installed via terminal. My wifi drops and reconnects quite often even though my router is RIGHT next to me. My battery lasts at the most 3 and a half hours... its a high capacity 6-cell li-ion battery. It lasts 7 hours or so on Windows and windows is a battery hog... and uses 30% of my 6gb's of RAM... Ubuntu uses 7%.
Okay now to the suggestions/questions... will newer builds help? I tried 11.10 and it wouldn't get my screen to turn on but found out about using "nomodeset" at the bootscreen and it should work... then permanetly adding that to the boot kernel. Not certain but may work. Is there a flavor of linux that is very similar to windows... or to better put universally compatible with more windows pc's? I was going to try deving and learning code but don't even think its worth it with such a crippled laptop ='[. PLEASE help me... I'm tired of being stuck with windows... love me some linux.
Not to offend/discourage anyone from helping but googling and pasting me some links isn't going to cut it trust me I've spent days on trying to fix this... and it is what it is now because of that.
So I need some real pros or someone who's been through this type of ordeal... even tho I hear most don't even get such issues.
Specs:
AMD A8 3550-mx with Radeon HD 6220g [discrete class graphics]
6gbs of RAM
Windows 7 64 and ubuntu 10.04 64bit
560gb HDD 5400rpm.
It gets the job done...

Try LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). It fixed aprosamurai's issues. After you install it and boot up, open terminal and run this
Sudo apt-get update
Sudo apt-get upgrade
And then reboot
Ubuntu is super picky about drivers and mint debian edition 'just works'. In my opinion, Ubuntu is on a downfall as an OS for developers and has become an OS geared toward kids who want a super simple UI for just using the internet. It doesn't even natively support a full root user and the UI is incredibly hard to multitask on.
Aprosamurai had a similar graphics card (ATI built in). I have an ATI dedicated.
You shouldn't have to run any other mods after installing LMDE and doing what I said.
Ubuntu is touchwiz, LMDE is AOSP
I wouldn't call myself fluent in Linux but I am familiar and do use it on occassion (my laptop is triple booted). Have you tried the Ubuntu forums? I have had some luck with them but in general I don't think their forums users are very helpful and often ass holes. I would also try linuxquestions.org if you insist on using Ubuntu. I find them much friendlier. I also echo the above. I haven't used mint yet but only read good things about it. As soon as I am done with these last few weeks of school I am going to be replacement Ubuntu with mint.
Awesome =]. So I can just burn an iso and install it over my current partition right? I can't put it on another parititon I have to many apparently... windows, recovery, and ubuntu. Even had to delete my "hptools" partition which was used for "bios upgrading" but just recently got an update from HP and my bios updated just as it should.... hp fail.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I would reformat the partition but when you boot up into the live cd I am sure it will give you the option to do so. Running the live cd first to make sure everything is working properly is always a good idea. If it isn't then you would want to hit up their forums and see if what is not working in your case is just a missing driver from the live cd and it would start working when you install it and update the OS or if there is something else going on.
