I'm rooted with stock DK28 rom. Whenever I plug my charger into my Epic the phone freezes after a few minutes and I have to do a battery pull to get it responsive again. This happens on multiple cables, so is it possible I need a new battery?
Do you use original charger or generic after market which causes that.

Like he said if you use a ln aftermarket charger especially the external chargers this happens. If it does it with the stick charger than I don't know.

I only have that sort of problem with a knockoff super cheapo charger. Never with the stock cable or any other non-super-cheapo charger.
It has been a problem with the stock charger as well as the third party chargers I have.

Try different cable that can go bad next try different rom and finally get phone replaced

If this problem started only after you rooted, flashed dk28 and flashed a rom; I would suggest going back to di18. Test it. If it works, flash stock dk28. Test. If it works, flash a rom. Test.
If it doesn't work on di18, I would take it to the store.
If it works on di18, but not on dk28 or a 2.2 rom, then I would try again from scratch.
Hi, I couldn't find a more recent thread on this and didn't want to start a new one.
I just manually upgraded my, completely stock, Epic 4G to Gingerbread and everything seems to have gone fine. However, only when plugged in, my phone's screen seems to freeze up.
Only fix is to open it up (which is annoying with my new SEIDIO case) and take the battery out.
Any suggestions?
sorry posted in the wrong section... i'm having the same problem with my epic 4g touch from sprint

Hi All,
I'm running Bonsai 3.0.1 and EB13 and I keep running into the same issue with charging. Whenever I use the charger in my car, my phone loses power rapidly and is extremely hot. Even when it is on standby. Yesterday, my phone was at about 85% and on a 45 minute car ride, the phone was down to 32%. Additionally, when I unplug it from my car charger, it still continues to act weird and will discharge itself very quickly, something like 4 hours. Someone on this forum suggested I remove the battery for a few minutes and let the phone reset itself and that seems to do the trick. The phone will then last about 12 hours on a full charge. But that doesn't solve my car charger and "memory" problem.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or know of a solution besides not charging in the car?
Thanks,
DD
Why don't u just upgrade to ec05 and run bonsai. 4.0.1 way more stable than. 3.0.1

Thanks. I kept 3.0.1 bc I don't want to continuously mess with the phone when it seemed stable. I'm not looking forward to reinstalling my apps though.
You don't have to re-install your apps.
Sounds like a bad car charger and once it heats up your battery, it continues to discharge quickly. Get another charger.

I've been reading some threads on EC05 and am not sure of it's advantages. So it only gives you SprintID and that's it? You also lose EXT4 right?
I'm still unsure of what needs to be done with the upgrade. So I run the EC05 on my EB13 with Bonsai 3.0.1 and it will flash up without losing any apps and data? Sorry about all of the questions but there's just so much to go through and the last time I did this, I bricked my phone for 2 days.

You can just Odin in the EC05 modem. I did it on my g/fs phone.
Hey, guys. I am pretty much feeling like this is a broken USB port, but here is a quick run down.
Flashed up to an EG22 based ROM a while ago, and flashed the modem via odin. This was a WHILE ago. And have flashed a few roms since then.
Soooo, here is my dilemma: Somewhere along the lines, I have lost any kind of data connectivity. Charging works fine, and I have tried this on a few other cables (stock, and a Western Digital external hard drive cable, and one 24 dollar cable from radio shack - i was desperate).
So, I am figuring that this is a bad USB port. Stupid. In order to do an insurance claim and get a new phone (thinking about going to a Nexus S 4G, since it is this phone's "equivalent"... I think) I have to have this thing back on an EC05 modem, or else I bite the cost of the phone.
any ideas, guys? I did QBKing77's full reset trick, still on EG22. That was my last effort after flashing a bunch of different ROMs.
Thanks again!
Sprint won't care if your rooted. I bet they wouldn't even check it in the first place. Take it in. But first, get something really small (q-tip) and put some alcohol (isopropyl) and clean out the port with the phone turned off. This is a galaxy s problem, happens
There is currently no way to change your modem from anything other than EB13 without Odin or Heimdall. Sorry. Just bring it in.

I had the sameeee exact problem and did everything I could but my phones usb port was just broken lol
This is what I did
there is a rom that will make ur phone look like stock ec05
Its over here in the development section look for something like "stock ec05 refs rom" or something like that
But the thing iss that I was stuck on eh17 no eg22
But that rom worked for me
I'm not sure if it'll work on eg22 but hopefully it will just download it on ur phone and flash it and just give it back it'll look completely stock

I'm having almost the same issue here, as my phone can charge through the USB, but it won't detect it as mass storage mode (debug mode run well, though..)
I can run usb tethering too, but only the mass storage mode doesn't work..
I have try using another cable, going to other ROM, but still no effect, and now I'm using a card reader to read my SD card, which is quite lame.. -_-
So it began with my computer not being able to read my phone, my phone wouldn't even give me the option to connect as a storage device. Then my phone would still say its charging even when its not plugged in and now my device won't charge unless I jiggle the cable around hard when plugged in. My phone keeps going into car mode and opens up the annoying car mode menu when i'm in the middle of things. This is obviously a hardware issue, a weak contact somewhere. My question is will Sprint or Samsung repair my phone or am I now stuck with a broken SII.
They will repair you no problem.
Great news, thanks for the response I was pretty worried for a second.
Thank goodness someone else was having this issue.... Here's MY question...
I've rooted and flashed a few roms on my phone, and I've heard things about how Sprint looks at the "Odin count" ... i puchased a usb jig, do i need to reset my count before i take it in?
I had the same problem, was running un-named when I brought it to Sprint.
Because it was a hardware problem and not a software problem (with the phone being rooted) they ordered me a replacement.
I searched and searched when this first happened to me, I spent so much time going back to out of the box stock, then reloading everything to see it was a bad port.
Now this problem pops up more and more in here.
Try one thing, do a battery pull.
Mine would not boot without going to recovery after a pull, the screen would come on just like it was plugged in and charging.
question
did you even try different usb cords ? you really need to state what you have tried to do when posting something a bad usb cord will do everything you said

Can somebody tell me what is going on with my phone??? Every so often I completely lose service and then my phone turns off. When I turn the phone back on the battery is completely drained. It just happened...before turning off the battery was at 97%, but when I turned it back on the battery was down to 5%. I've had my phone for over a year, but this just started happening in the past month.
I was running Unnamed 2.0 (GB) with EL29 modem and kernel up until last week. I tried Blazer v4.01 (GB). I just switched to the newest ICS version of Blazer with FG31 modem and rom. This has happened on each of these setups. Like I said, I was running the UnNamed - EL29 setup for a while without any problems. I've read about the loss of service bug with our phones, but I thought that was resolved a while ago.
Is there any zip file that can be flashed to resolve this? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

How long have you had the rom?0
It started happening when I was on UnNamed 2.01...i ran that for close to a year without any problems. I just tried Blazer GB and ICS about a month ago.
I installed the Los file from another thread but that hasn't helped.
Could it be a virus on the phone?
Should I start with a completely new install of the ROM, kernel, modem and apps...rather than restoring previous backed up versions?
Start fresh, stock rooted rom and run for a few days.
Possibly bad battery or charger also, it happens.
How much over a year have you had it?
Wonder why...

I have started having the same issue with my e4gt. I have the stock rom FI29 rooted. The phone used to work just fine and one day after applying the FI27 it just started having this issue. The phones looses the signal and shuts down when I am doing anything on the phone for longer than 1-5 min.
Did the original author resolve this? If so, could you pelase share what helped?

Yup, first it LOS, then flicker followed by turning off with no power down animation, reboot and battery is at or below 5%, shuts off again, won't reboot this is the biggest clue that the battery has pooped the bed. The battery can even still test as good, receiving and returning proper voltage but the battery is fubar if its bulging. Sprint corporate repair centers will replace free if they have one in stock, otherwise order an anker on amazon/eBay and then contact Samsung support they will email you a shipping label, you send them the battery and they will send you a new OEM battery and you end up with 2 for the price of the anker. This is the route I had to go took 10days to get my new one from Samsung from the day I mailed it til I received the new one
Edit: according to the guy I spoke to at Samsung they warranty the batteries for 18months instead of the 12 they warranty the device itself. Anker also warranties their batteries for 18months as well

I have the exact same issue.. my battery will be fully charged, then ill do something on the phone, it flickers, then restarts, and battery is completely dead..
I went to sprint, had them check my battery and they said the battery is fine...
Today my phone did this again, then when it restarted, all the setting I had on my messenger app, had all been reset, and so I had to do those all over again. And all the apps, that I had in folders I made, were now all out of the folders and I had to put them all back again. So frustrating.
As stated before though, the battery may test as good but still be bad. Happens with cars too and very often actually. I'd just go back to the store and not back down until you get a new battery. This is a common issue and they know it.

The battery may test as functional but as soon as you can prove it's bulging - hence the spin test - they can't disagree that the battery is failing and requires replacement.

Hi all,
My rooted (but otherwise stock) Optimus G was VERY low battery, I plugged it into a car charger and it looked like it was charging for a minute, unplugged it to try booting it and it booted halfway then died. Then it wouldn't charge (tried multiple chargers in different contexts). Had to send it back under warranty, they flashed my phone and said it was "software related" and sent it back.
It should be working once I get it back. But my question is:
HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE?
And my advice is: rooted or not, I'm guessing that having it die halfway through a bootup might have been the culprit here. So the lesson—I think—is not to let it deep discharge and, if you do, to charge it for 5-1o good minutes before booting it back up.
Unheard of for me, seems kinda freaky actually.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Generally a battery pull will fix that. It's kinda a pain in the bum, but it fixed it for me! Amazing what a hardware reset can do lol
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
This happened to me too.
I think it is kernel related issue. It happened to me when I was using LG based rom and kernel. I just flashed CM kernel thru twrp (I could boot into twrp luckily and I had CM kernel in my phone) and it charges like normal.
Don't let your battery go down to 0 when you are on LG based rom and kernel!
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Wasn't able to do battery pull b/c it would void the warranty (this is not a consumer-replaceable battery).
Wasn't able to access it via computer either, so that was no good. Sounds like there's some agreement—let LG phones hit 0% at your own risk!
I have had this happen a few times. Most of the time I've left it plugged in undisturbed for twenty minutes to an hour and it will boot. Try that first.
Once it wouldn't boot no matter what I tried but I could get into twrp and download mode so I used LGNPST and took it back to complete stock. This was obviously last resort but worked. Hope this helps. Good luck
