Just flashed CM6, few issues.. - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have CM6 and I have a few issues and questions. First, I recovered by backup with Titanium after I flashed CM6 and Gapps. Before I had almost all of my apps on my SD card and everything worked fine. When I restored, everything was placed on the phone. A few apps weren't even showing up under my downloads in the market app. I then moved everything back to my sd card and apps with shortcuts updated, but widgets and swype are not showing up, even after moving them back to the phone.
How do I get the new version of android market for CM6? I tried downloading an app through the markets site on my computer but it did not download, or get forwarded to my phone, for some reason.
Which kernel should I use to overclock? Ive read a few posts and comments about a few kernels and some apparently cause more bugs and issues.
Thank you.
EDIT: Ive managed to find solutions to most of my issues. The only problem I'm having now is apps not installing from the Market website. Im using CM6 and flashed 2.2.11 of the market app to my phone. Whenever I hit install on the site it claims to download but nothing is reaching my phone.

That happened to me the only solution i found for mine was formating the sd card. First you should try to fix-permissions n then reboot if that dosent work id suggest backing up your sd data on ur comp n formating

[Q] CM6 with GPS & missing market apps problems

I am a newbie when it comes to posting. I always use xda with the search function only when I have problems, but I can't find a working solution that works for me in the forums. this is my first time ever posting.
I am running CM6 stable with snap7.5 kernel & gapps-hdpi-20100817 and my GPS used to work like a charm but now it hangs on finding gps for a while now and it doesn't take me to route. I noticed a lot of people running CM6 is having the same problem, but none of the fixes work for me. I have tried wipe cache dalvik twice, then re-flashing newest gapps, and tried numerous different kernels, including stock CM6 kernel.
Also, one of the biggest annoyances is the missing apps in the market. I paid for apps like Skydroid and so on, and after flashing official CM6 stable titanium back wont restore, even just the app by itself. I cleared data & cache from market and did all fixes online, but still no luck. I can't even find it on the market to re purchase it. Thats when I started to notice there are a lot of apps that doesn't show up in my market search. I can find the apps like Angry Birds in Appbrian, but when i try to install it from my phone and when it brings me to the market place to install, it wont find it. If anyone can help me with these problems that would help me out so much, and put an end to my searching.
Not sure why.. but if you do titanium backup or your apps it stores then on the SD card to reinstall. Never have to go through market again. If you have a band backup to where you had those apps install it and do a apps backup then go to the nand backup of cm6 and install them through titanium

[Q] Cyanogen Mod 7 wont keep apps

Okay i have cyanogen mod 7 on my phone with a backup of my phone. i rooted with unrevoked, i have installed TB and i backed up all apps and data, i also have busy box. I moved TB to my sd card. and that is all i have moved over to the sd card.
I changed over to cyanogen mod 7 and it saves nothing, no contacts, no apps, when i install TB it always force closes before even starting. I get upset because i cannot use any of hte apps i have, and i cannot find the market on it to download it.
i tried to move busy box over to my sd card and cannot.. any help is great help! thanks!
Did you wipe data and cache when you flashed? It is normal that your phone will reset like this. Use Tom manager and run the fix permissions script then reboot to recovery ans wipe the dalvik cache and reboot from recovery. It will take a while to boot this time but once up again most fc. Issues should be resolved. I suggest you also make sure you downloaded CM's google apps and choose what google applications you want if you haven't done so. Once you setup your google account any apps purchased from market should install. Then anything that didn't restore use TB and install any other apps. I suggest only installing the apps and not the data since you transfered from a sense rom to cm. It could cause more fc.

When I do Rom Manager i click "Install Rom from SD Card" and then go to the rom download of CM7 and install it.. i checked both Backup Existing ROM and WIpe Data and Cache. The first time i did this i also downloaded google apps. which until you said that, i totally forgot i had done that (my bad).
How do i install google apps after I update to cm7? do i have to go into file explorer?
(sorry for the weird questions i have searched forever and cant find anything, but i probably missed this)
thank you for the super quick reply
Its a one time thing that starts after you set up your google account. It asks what apps to install like voice maps earth etc. To reinstall g apps you can use rom manager and choose install from SD choose the clockworkmod folder then download then goo-inside.me you should have the google apps zip there.
Upon reboot you should be prompted for what apps you want.
If you still have issues I suggesst you use rom manager and choose download rom then cm thencm7 rc2 make sure to do g apps and then just do the delete data and cache just remember choosing that wipes everything but to me it sounds like nothing is reinstalled so its not really an issue right now.
Good luck I'm out for the rest of the night. Hopefully you wont have anymore issues but otherwise I'm sure someone else will help you out.

Okay, i am able to boot into cm7 RC 1 which i have downloaded.. should i downlaod rc2?
After that I go to ROM manager and i do the fix, then install google apps. i have done with both none checked and the data and wipe checked.
without it went into a bootload, and would pop up a green android guy and it says click the android guy, i go to click it and it bootloads again.
with it, i actually got it to start up, when i went to unlock it, it went into the bootload again, and the green android guy comes up and says click, when i try, it bootloads again.
What am i doing wrong?
I attempted to install RC2, it sat at the loading screen for minutes with nothing happening.
So i went back to RC1, got it to install, fixed permissions, installed gapps, this gave me the market app, and a few others (no gmail) but when i started it up, the google apps never actaully ran, and none of those apps work. Also, i cannot get things like handcent or most of my other apps to work, but some apps do work.
I am pretty puzzled.
thanks!
Okay, so have you went to settings>accounts>add>google? And logged in with your GMail yet? If so you can goto market and search for Gmail and it should download. The "Google apps" did run if you got the Green Android Guy. All it is a script to kick off the download from the Market, so they won't install till you get your Google Account logged in.
Im sorry if i was unclear,
Yes, at one time when i would install gapps the green guy would pop up, but would restart every 2-3 seconds. I saw a post from a guy who had this happen, and he said to update to the newest gapps. So i upgraded to rc2, and i could not even get rc2 to boot, i waited well over 20 minutes on the boot screen, and it never once actaully went into a bootload where it kept restarting.
After that i went back to RC1, and installed the newest gapps. the problem that persisted was that after i installed gapps, the green guy never came up, but i noticed a few things were installed like market.
I tried to load market and it would not work (even after permissions fix) but i got TB running and added apps on there to see if they would work. I could not get apps such as Handcent or most other apps would not work, and i could never actually log into gmail even though i had tried.

a couple issues need to be addressed here. One you can't use HTC (Sense) apps with Cynaogen. In most instances Cyanogen has replaced them with an app that is similar and works for CM7. Otherwise you have to find something in the Market that you like to replace it.
The second issue is when you do a full wipe of the phone such as is required when installing CM7 all user data and apps are lost. What you end up with is basically a new phone as if it came out of the box for the first time. In most instances you will need to activate it and then put in your google account information. If you had google backup your apps they will download automatically once the phone is setup, which can be a pain and takes forever.
Also I personally don't use ROM Manager to install my ROMs, I do it through the recovery console. I do download the ROM (and gapps) with ROM Manager but cancel the install once its downloaded. I then move the ROM and gapps files from the clockwork folder on the sdcard out into the parent directory of the sdcard and install them from there.
I know i cant use the htc stuff, and i have figured out the contacts problems.
What i cannot get is first google apps to work, such as when i start up it either bootloads or the one time i did it and it just automatically added market and stuff.
I have never had to call vzw and redo anything.. so idk if i am just doing it wrong or what.
okay, in order to do this correctly, in the recovery mode do i do the wipe/factory restore to it to make it work correctly?
anyone? sorry i must be alot worse at this than i thought i was going to be.
Lol, we all have been noobs before, so don't worry too much if your still having trouble. So what are we trying to accomplish now? Factory reset with cm7 rc1 installed so you can start over?
It seems to me that you've been successful in getting cm7 installed just not up and running the way you want it. That and the fact that you lost all apps in the process right?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Some people have reported problems with ROM Manager not wiping the phone properly and thus not getting CM7 to run properly. I had this problem too. So I just installed it through recovery. Select the option "wipe data/factory reset" and that will wipe all the folders on your phone that need to be wiped. Then select "install zip from sdcard" and the option to "choose zip from sdcard" which will allow you to scroll down to the CM7 zip file stored on the sdcard (must be in root directory not clockwork folder). After flashing the ROM before rebooting also flash gapps doing the same install zip method then reboot. If this doesn't work something else is wrong.
Once you have a working copy of CM7 installed you don't need to wipe the phone to install newer versions of CM7. You can install right over the old one this way you lose no data. Some people recommend doing a dalvik cache wipe before updating but I don't and haven't had any problems.

Cannot Install anything from market

Let me start off by stating I am far from a newb. I have been rooting and flashing android ROMs since the G1. This is the first time I have run across this. My wife's DInc wont let her install any apps. Install unsuccessful each tome and started on stock ROM. I just rooted wiped and flashed cm7. Still same deal. I have never encountered this. Thinking corrupt internal memory. Anyone else have an idea? Tried wiping market cache data etc... tried signing into Google talk... funny thing is out of warranty by one day now. Awesome timing.

how new is the inc? have you checked that the PRL settings are correct? what message do you get when you try to install apps? it wouldn't hurt to do a *228 just to ensure all settings are written correctly.
I had the same problem but it turned out that the apps couldnt interact with my sd card. does it display a pop up error message when you try to install an app?
Last 2 DIncs I rooted, the SD that came with it was Not FAT32. Those had the same issue you describe, I reformatted SD, worked fine.

I'm having the same issue.. I thought it was from me messing around with the provider #'s like 310004 310012 etc.. im on verizon... cant install anything... get a popup of can install on usb or usb storage.... pic attached. ( http://db.tt/0aLvpMJ )
Well... it let me update these... http://db.tt/wCkP1we
But not these.... http://db.tt/NtTKVRc
I'm stumped... all permissions are set correctly. I've erased data and cache multiple times from the market... I've *228'd... and rebooted MANY TIMES!

Thats the exact same problem i had.
Use root explorer and navigate to /sdcard/.android_secure and delete the file "smdl2tmp1.asec" if it is not in that location then it could be in /mnt/secure/asec/
After i deleted the file it worked just fine with no errors.
Does it install if you unmount the SDcard with the system settings first?
I tried doing that but it didn't work for me. But it doesn't hurt to try.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Ahh, I had an issue with it a while back that was fixed by unmounting the sdcard before installing them. I'd read about it in this article before, maybe it will help someone here: http://lifehacker.com/5714300/how-to-fix-installation-unsuccessful-errors-in-the-android-market
Seems like it mostly covers problems with updates, though.

Market download problems anyone?

Hi everybody,
since yesterday i can't download anything. I've been on a rooted stock 1.72, now on Leedroid 2.2.3. Both didn't work. Uninstall Market Update didn't work too.
Or could there be some Limit for redownloading apps? I've tried several Roms the past few days and always redownloaded a bunch of apps?
Thank you
Nasobem
Edit: Ok now it's working again. I don't know if this is pure coincidence, but problems started when i stopped some downloads on stock 1.72. then i went Leedroid 2.2.3-->stock rooted gingerbread-->leedroid 2.2.3 and finally stock rooted 172 again, wich was the solution.
Upgrade to leedroid again and once done delete the Android Secure folder and LOST.DIR folder from your SD card and reboot. Should find downloads work fine then. If not back up all your SD data to your PC format the card on phone restart phone and move everything over but the folders created on the card again. HTH

Thank you
Turned out that the downloads stopped again, only the automatic redownloads were working, every single download still didn't. So i deleted all folders on sdcard, rebooted and disabled google-sync, reenabled it again and: finally!
Now everything is ok

Help w/few things

How do I move apps to my SD card so I dont need to reinstall them everytime I use a new ROM? I tried moving manually by checking move to SD but it didnt move anything...
Also, any new contacts I add are never saved in my google sync..I sync every new number to google contacts but whenever I install a new ROM they are never saved in there..whats the deal?? Are there other ways to save so this doesnt happen?
Last issue is w/ROMs...Pretty much no roms work anymore...before it was only a few that didnt work. But now none of them work. I tried the latest of 10 ROMs and some cant even load while others load and hang at the white HTC screen...The only ROM that works is MIUI...what happened all the sudden??
Now with MIUI how do I change CPU settings? I dont see any section for this like in CM7...? Anyone

When adding a contact make sure the contact type is google and not phone.
The apps you can't take then from rom to Rom your always going to have to reinstall them
Make sure you are wiping everything except sd card. and that you ARE NOT USING CLOCKWORKMOD
MIUI you have to use setcpu it doesn't come with the option built in

You REALLY need to click the link in my sig and read the Evo guide. All your answers are in there
evo4gnoob-Like I said in my post I use Google every single time...But whenever I do a flash from a previous ROM where I saved several new #'s the new #'s are never saved...?? Is there a more full proof way?
So when I move them to SD card that is merely saving me space on my phones internal storage by moving it to SD storage & not a backup so I dont need to keep reinstalling?
What is wrong w/ CLOCKWORKMOD? That is what I have been using...What else is there

That doesn't actually move the app to the card, just the app's data, which is wiped when flashing a new rom. You need to use Titanium Backup to fully backup apps.

Login to your gmail on a computer and see if the contacts are there. If they are, then they are synced. You can also export the contacts to the sd card in the People app.

Again it's not a backup, the os just moves the app's data to the card, not the app itself

Nothing wrong with clockwork. Some people just prefer to use AmonRA
MOST people prefer Amon Ra. CWM has a lot of limitations
Everything worked fine before...now no roms will work besides MIUI..maybe its a sign I should stick to MIUI lol...Im just worried that if miui wont load then Im screwed w/o any ROMS being able to work...

This just sounds like you're not wiping fully or that your recovery isn't working properly.
Download and flash Amon Ra. There's a newer one out that I'm going to flash once my battery dies and I have to switch batteries, it's version 3.08 and not the original. Since i haven't tried it yet I can't vouch for it, but version 2.3 has served me well for a long time. The file must be named PC36IMG.zip exactly and on the root of your SD card. Boot into hboot and it'll scan, find the file, and ask you to update - do so.
Once you've flashed either version of Amon Ra, do a nandroid backup. Then go to the wipe menu and wipe cache, data, dalvik, .android_secure, SD-ext, boot and system. Wipe them again. Then flash whatever rom you want and see what happens.
If you want to save your apps and their data, use Titanium Backup. Just don't restore system data across roms, only the apps you've installed.
As for the contacts problem, double check your sync settings. You can expert your contacts to your SD card then import them if you continue to have problems. On MIUI, open the contacts app, then menu, settings, export contacts, export to SD card. You should be able to import them on another rom.
You can download Amon Ra directly from these links-
Version 3.08 here: http://db.tt/YULEfMz2
Version 2.3 here: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
Only choose one. Both are already named correctly, so don't rename the file. I've heard great things about the new one, so I'd try that one first. From what I read in the thread it can restore ClockworkMod backups, so that's a plus for you. I'd still make a backup with this recovery before wiping just in case.
Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Friends don't let friends use clockworkmod.
I used to have this problem to. After flashing amon 2.3 recovery and wiping everything accept SD card, everything was fine
