Telnet Shell Script - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to know the best way to create a Shell Script I can run from my phone that will do the following:
telnet to 111.111.111.111 and login as root
then cd ..
then insmod /apps/lib/cifs/file.ko
then mount -t //111.111.111.11/media /media/sd/video
then exit
I have tried entering this script in GScript
telnet 111.111.111.111 23
root
cd ..
insmod /apps/lib/cifs/file.ko
mount -t //111.111.111.11/media /media/sd/video
exit
It moves too quickly for the telnet session some times and doesn't complete everything all the time..
Any help is appreciated.

I think there is a telnet app in the market. Might wanna check it out. Hope that helps :/ if any thing i just BUMPED it for ya

Have you tried adding some sleep commands to your script, like a "sleep 1s" between each line or something?

I'm using Gscript from the market and I completely forgot about the sleep command! Worked like a charm thanks!

Regaws Root Method???

Is there something additional I need to do to actually gain "root"? I can't install the clear lock screen from smurf, can't wireless tether.... Don't know what's going on, all of this used to work fine on my Hero - what am I missing?
I don't think you have given enough info for people to even know what the problem is that you are having. Maybe you could be a bit more specific. Do you have superuser installed?
Sorry about that.... basically im on stock 2.2 with supposed "root" using regaws method - problem is, I can't use anything though; adb, wireless tether, I can't flash a lock screen (just sits at boot screen).
Download superuser app from the market place or google it if it is not on your phone already. Install it then launch an app that requires root. You will know real fast if you are rooted.

I do have SU... that's the thing but when I try ADB Remount it says device not permitted or something like that, can't remember exactly
You could try full wipe / reflash.
Maybe try a diff ROM too.
You need to flash the engineering bootloader (0.76.2000). Go to Toast's method part 2 and follow the steps to unlock nand. You need the engineering bootloader in order to access /system.

Have you run Unrevoked Forever? This will turn off security permissions and should then allow you to flash anything.

Ok, the reason
Code:
adb remount
doesn't work is because the boot.img isn't patched to allow that, because I forgot to at the time of posting. You still have root (as long as you actually completed the guide successfully), that's just an all time access root through adb
To acheive the same results, type
Code:
adb shell
type
Code:
su
you will then see #. thats root.
Then remount your /system partition using
Code:
mount -o rw,remount / /system
there you go.

Try the new 1 click root in the dev forum. Unrevoked 3.2. See if that doesn't do the trick.

My guess is you didn't flash the 2.2-root.zip at the end then.. That's the best I can do w/ the info you've given.
one was already asked once but i had two questions
1. Is USB Debugging turned on or off? Settings > Applications > Development
2. you are using a stock rooted rom. are you trying to use sprint's wireless tether app? Sprint's app wont work you need to download wireless tether from the market.

need help with the android port

no one is answering in the android post so i'll ask here:
about the part when you need to open 2 terminals:
i didn't quite understand the terminals part.. (this is my first time that i'm using this thing..) can someone write it more spcific to me please?.
when i'm trying to go to my SD card on the terminal it says that there is no such thing... :S
and how to save the terminals on the SD card (if needed, if not what to do with them? (both of the terminals that need to be opened))
hope you'll help me.
thanks
You must first enable root account:
go to terminal and type in: sudo passwd root
then enter a new password you want for Root ac and retype it.
Once done. just log off from normal account and type in 'root' as username and newly created password as Password.
Now all you need to do with terminal is when you are done copying the files. open it up (Terminal) then type: cd media/XXX/
where 'XXX' is the name of your EXT2 partition.
Hit enter
then type in: chmod -R 0777 ./*
Press Enter.
Then Just type in: Sudo Sync
Press Enter.
That's it. done with the Terminal part! EXIT it.
OK thanks alot
but who do i save it?
cuz if i just exit it, it says it'll kill the terminal.
If you are a noob of this level then you should not install android on wave.
If its your first time using ubuntu, spend like an hour with it first.
Also, I think another alternative to logging in as root is to just type sudo nautilus in a terminal to open up the file manager as root. Then use sudo as well to chmod (sudo chmod -R 0777 ./*), and then finally sudo sync

A work around has been found! Thanks to RealPariah, so thank him here!
It is not a fix due to the fact that you still will not be able to fix permissions in CWM or Rom Manager but does get the job done of Fixing Permissions!!
1st Do you have the Google android installed?
If not download and install it! http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0.htm
you might need to install the JDK, if you don't have it already.
2nd Your path to adb must not be set or is not correct.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1161776
Now you should be ready to use adb!
STOP!
Fixed in this New CWM Recovery or

Boot in to Recovery
plug USB in to phone and computer
In Recovery Go in to "mounts and storage" and mount /system and /data
On computer open a command line window (windows) [click start] then [run] then type "cmd" to get a command prompt or terminal (Linux or OSX)
Run "ADB devices" and be sure it is not all ? For device number (if it is restart recovery and reseat USB connection and run "adb kill-server" on computer) I had to run terminal as root (admin for best results bit got it to work either way really)
Now type "adb shell" enter
Once that opens and you get ~#
now type cd /sbin
then type
sh fix_permissions -l -r
done correctly, your command prompt should look like the following
C:\Documents and Settings\family>adb shell
~ # cd /sbin
cd /sbin
/sbin # sh fix_permissions -l -r
sh fix_permissions -l -r

Alright after testing fix permissions I found a way to make it run!
Issue: fix permissions won't run from recovery (correctly (it says done in less than 60 secs and stops instantly for me saying completed and while in Android; ROM manager script runs but freezes at random points (same if you open terminal emulator and run it).
Resolution:
You have to have adb on a computer for this

Of it says not found mount /system
If it says something about read only variable you forgot the preceding sh (may need to do "cd /sbin" then "sh fix_permissions" if you still have an issue.
This is only way I can get fix permissions to run (even tried sh fix_permissions -l -r in Android terminal emulator and script manager to no avail)
After fix permissions ran correctly it really helped iron some small performance issues and notably helped.
I hoped that helps!

Also having the same problem with Fix Permissions instantly finishing, but with the "/sbin/fix_permissions: line 64: UID readonly variable" error in the logs. Trying in ROM Manager also results in in random results each time I try, but never making it all the way through before it just hangs. The furthest I've gotten is 94 of 132.
Also on ICS Blackedition, but still on RC2.
I just tried another ICS rom and I still cant fix permishions. So I tried CM7 and it works fine.
Looks like this is a problem with ICS.

I don't know but for some reason it's in the general forum and never made it to the development section. Remember to use the autorotation fix since the OP didn't update the ROM yet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576617

Thank you!! Been going crazy trying to find a solution!
Thanks for this. resolved some issues I had with a specific application force closing on me.
I am under the impression this has to do with the fact that a lot of I727 users, if not all, are having issues mounting /system inside of ICS. Mounting in recovery is fine but it seems that mounting /system inside of ICS works ONCE after flashing a kernel and then never again.

Square Enix Chaos Rings (Force Close Root Workaround)

Hey, just in case anyone else shelled out the money for SE's new Android release, Chaos Rings and couldn't play due to being rooted...
All you need to do to be able to play is rename your SuperSU.apk/superuser.apk in the /system/app folder (I just added, ".bak" to the filename) and the force close will end. Of course, you will probably want to rename the apk back to normal once finished
EDIT:
Cooldoud has a script on post #5 which, with Script Manager, should offer a widgetable solution to quickly renaming the superuser/supersu apk

Renaming is easy - busybox mv <source> <dest>
It's calling the app that I'm not certain about.
Yep found that out too... Really can't figure out why they went through the hassle of implementing such a lame system... Anyway, I wrote the below script for my gnote, it will toggle supersu so you can use the same widget to enable and disable supers.
After that install script manager, and set the script to be executed as root. You can then just create a widget to easily access the script
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
echo "Failed to remount /system as rw"
exit
fi
if [ -f "/system/app/Superuser.apk" ]; then
echo "Disabling Superuser App..."

mount -o remount,ro /system
echo "All Done"
else
echo "Enabling Superuser App..."
mv /system/app/Superuser.bak /system/app/Superuser.apk
mount -o remount,ro /system
echo "All Done"

You must make sure you convert your newline characters to Unix format. Wondows-style newline will cause the error you're getting (well if we're talking about the same error )
You can use notepad++ or Google dos2unix for a command line tool.

You can use notepad++ or Google dos2unix for a command line tool.

ok i did and now i get this error
Looks like you're not using the busybox binaries. Maybe try replacing "mount" by "busybox mount"? Problem is I don't know what shell you'd be using so that might still not be working. Are you using the international Note? What ROM?
Also double check whether you're using SuperSU.apk or Superuser.apk as your root configuration tool.
I have no idea how all these scripts work, so I just tried to change the name of my superuser.apk, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do that. My phone insists that I have insufficient privileges to rename it...
It seems that they finally added "*This game cannot be played on rooted devices." to the app description, it was not there yesterday
Well, I went and researched scripts. Got this script to work. (Had to add "busybox" before "mount")
Checked that the app does get renamed to .bak, and yet I still get a force close when i press start. I guess I'll just have wait for SE's patch.
It's important to check that the application is not appearing in your app drawer anymore (if your launcher can detect the app, so can SE... ) . Go there and check, if the app is still appearing it means it is still accessible (not sure whether you then need a reboot for it to disappear or something?), if it's not there... it means SE is also checking some other stuff to determine whether you're rooted, but I have no idea what that would be.
Ah yes, that's it. It still shows in my app drawer. Reboot didn't help. Trying searching the issue, came up with nothing. I guess I'm not meant to play this game just yet lol. Thank for trying to help!

[ROOT] Navigation keys back light control

I've been looking for a way how to have navigation keys back light always on while screen on (I was distracted by blinking caused by short timeout value) and at the same time always off for ebook reading and video watching and the solution should be simple and future proof (working on Nougat and Oreo as well). It is partially possible with Xposed and Gravitybox, but I am preparing myself for Oreo update, so I want to replace as many of its functions as possible. Long story short, use Tasker with following:
1. Event, display on, task:
run shell command as root, "chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "echo 10 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
2. Event, display off, task:
run shell command as root, "chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
3. Application, ebook reader, youtube,..
Enter task
run shell command as root, "chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
Exit task
run shell command as root, "chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "echo 10 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
run shell command as root, "chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
Hi.
Is this working?
I really hate buttons light and would like to shut them off for good.
I guess that running this script after booting should work (if yours is working)
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

I am still using this method without any issues. I even enhanced it with lowering the keys back light intensity during night, quite handy in total darkness
To disable back light permanently after boot use this:
1. run shell command as root, "chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
2. run shell command as root, "echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
3. run shell command as root, "chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
Explanation:
1. make sure that we have RW configuration rights (I would say that this is optional in your case, but it won't hurt anything)
2. disable brightness
3. remove RW configuration rights (otherwise system apps can and will enable the back light again when you turn screen off and on)
Thanks for you fast reply.
I'm still trying to understand how magisk works with scripting (and the permissions you mention that I didn't know were required).
I come from an old S2 running custom Jelly Bean and all this systemless stuff is new to me as previously I used to put scripts in init.d and that was all I needed, but now I don't want to modify system partition.
I am using Magisk for root and few build.prop tweaks, not sure how init.d works with it. In the past I had luck with Script manager - it was enough to create a script file, open it with Script manager and set it as "run as root and at boot time". Or you can still use an automation app which can run shell commands (Tasker has this feature for sure).

As far as I know, anything you put under /magisk/.core/post-fs-data.d would be ran as a script after boot.
But as I said before, just starting with this and may be talking nonsense.
I really wouldn't like to install tasker or anything else as I just want them off for the rest of my life!
Thanks!
PD: Sorry for my english.

Hey!
I was able to run your commands via ADB and everything is working perfect (I don't know why but they didn't work via terminal emulator)
Only issue is that whenever I reboot my phone everything is lost.
My problem is that I'm unable to make a script that runs at boot time (I'm pretty ignorant in scripting and where to put that script).
Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated!

Don't forget to add "su" as a first command if you are running it from terminal emulator. Try Script manager mentioned before, it can do what you want quite easily - just put all commands in a file, save it somewhere on the internal SD, open it from SM, set as run at boot and run as root and that's it. You can run your scripts on demand as well, so you can check quickly if it's working fine.
I remembered that had bought Tasker a few years ago (but never really used it) so I created a task to perform the above mentioned commands at boot.
Anyway, I'm still unable to make a script and run it via terminal emulator, and that's really annoying!
I'll keep investigating.
Thanks a lot!

What is the exact content of the script file, what are the file permissions and how do you try to run it?

Hi!
This script is something like this:
#!/bin/sh
su
chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
Named it "lights sh" and put in on my internal SD card,
Then, with terminal emulator browsed to its location and tried to run it via "./lights sh"
I got "Permission denied" and also some errors like "backlight not found".
Couldn't find the way to change permissions (Reading a little more found that internal SD card is mounted as non executable. Is that correct?
Later I moved the file to DATA and changed permissions to 755 obtaining the same results.
As you may notice I'm a complete noob regarding scripting and permissions and I apologize for that!
Thanks in advance!

I've just made a very simple script:
1.
#!/bin/sh
echo hello world!
2. saved it to the internal sd card as "script.sh"
3. chmod 755 script.sh
4. running it as "./script.sh" gives the permission denied error, but "sh script.sh" works fine
In your case, remove "su" command from the script file itself, but run it in terminal before calling the script instead. Or just use script manager
Thanks, working great Tasker profiles...

If you have tasker:
Code:
run shell command as root, "chmod 644 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
if %LIGHT > 3
run shell command as root, "echo 10 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
else
run shell command as root, "echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
end if
run shell command as root, "chmod 444 /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness"
It will set brightness based on the surrounding light level.
