Hi all,
I couldn't decide if this should go into the tips thread or not, but it's taken me ages to find what should have been a simple solution - but turned out to be a pain in the ass, possibly because of a bug in the Windows Phone 7 account setup.
Anyway, this problem/solution probably applies for anyone and everyone where the 'Add an account' auto discovery settings do not work and/or your mail provider uses SSL. The key to the problem appears not be the configuration settings, but to NOT use any of the default mail account configuration screens in Windows Phone 7.
Instead use the ADVANCED screen to configure the account WITHOUT specifying any ports, unless you need to deviate from the default SSL ports.
So I put together a little HOWTO on my ISP's forums, so this is obviously geared towards anyone using the same provider!
I'll be happy to tweak as needed. Hopefully this information isn't a re-post, as I couldn't find the answer here yesterday when I needed it!
HOWTO: Configure an SSL account manually on your Windows Phone 7 Device
Go to 'Settings' and select ''Email & accounts'
Click on 'Add An Account'

Click on 'Advanced Setup'
Enter your e-mail address and password
Click on 'Next'
Click on 'Internet Email Account'
Enter a name for the account (e.g. Blueyonder)
Enter the name you wish people to see when you send messages
Enter the incoming mail server: pop3.blueyonder.co.uk / pop3.virginmedia.com / etc
Select the account type: POP3
Enter your username: your full e-mail address (eg. [email protected])
Then, scroll the screen UP
Enter your password
Enter the outgoing server: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk / smtp.virginmedia.com / etc
Leave the 'Outgoing Server requires authentication' and 'Use the same username and password for sending mail' boxes checked.
Click on 'Advanced Settings'
Check (put a tick in) the option 'Require SSL for incoming email'
Check (put a tick in) the option 'Require SSL for outgoing email'
Set the option 'Download new content' as required
Set the option 'Download email from' as required
Click on 'Sign In'
And as long as you've tweaked your mail settings via the web page you are done!
Kick back, relax and feel smug for a while, before moving on to the next frustrating problem!

Everytime I open an email with images the only thing that shows are the X's to where the images are. How do I make the images show when I open an email. I want to read it the way I would see it on the PC.
My BB 8900 showed the images as long as I clicked on show images. High Tech Computer phone should be having these problems.

Huh? POutlook supports HTML just fine!
I had the very same problem a while back on my TYTNII, I got round it by installing Schap's Advanced Config and setting the Proxy Auto Detection from disabled to enabled under Internet Explorer settings.
Schap's Advanced Config can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151
I downloaded it and did what you said. I even did a soft reset and I re opened my email and the images still don't show.

Did you retry downloading the images in POutlook? Does Internet Explorer work OK? I found that Internet Explorer wouldn't download images corretly when POutlook wasn't working... That's how I found they were linked.
Daft question - you have got POutlook settings set up for HTML and to actually download the message and not just the header haven't you??
I have no idea what you are talking about. All I did was set up my Gmail and Aim email on the device. No images are showing in either accounts. I never set up an POutlook or whatever that is.
Do you get an image placeholder [x] where the image should be? Do you also get a notification bar at the top of this message?

Mesquire,
Yes that's exactly what I see when I open up my emails.
Are you able to click on "Internet pictures blocked" to download the images for your email?
Never tried actually, but what if I can and what if I can't?
If you can: the behaviour is by design
This is similar to Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express/Vista's Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail - images embedded into a HTML email are blocked initially.
So how do I get it to work correctly? Is your HTML blocked?
Anyone else HTML blocked?
Just tested using Gmail's IMAP access. Embedded images are blocked, as usual, with [x]. Click on "Internet pictures blocked" and images are downloaded to show the HTML email in all its glory.
Yeah I just checked and it's all good now. Thanks!
Yesterday i've upgrade my Defy to CM7 by referring this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798.
And i've found that there's no way to import contact from SIM. I've to sync it using Google which is i dont know how to use it.
Is there any way to import contact w/o using Google Acc?
And I've found out that my camera not working if I'm zoom-ing to x5.
Example :
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

Btw, sorry for broken/bad english
I believe Google contact is the best and easiest thing you can find out there.

What do you mean? Mind to teach me how? Sorry. Seriously IDK how to use Google Contact or etc2. BUT the contact that i've save before change to CM7 still there. Let say i save my friend name : Blitz. And i search it at contact "Bli", it will automatically search Blitz for me
So...first thing:
Import from SIM:
In contacts menu, press options(the left button undeneath the screen)
Here U have to select import/export - and import form SIM
Then, go to home screen - Settings - Accounts and Sync - enable background data + auto sync, then add a Google account - this will be your main account (you even have the posibility to create a fresh one) - this will sync your contacts + e-mail + data
Once this step was set up ok, then anytime you reflash your phone, clear data, or change your phone, if you enter this account, your contacts will be there.
P.S. - ypu can even import facebook accounts - and join contacts from google + facebook - easier to have pictures for contacts.

Thanks for your superb info.
Found this little tutorial and works wonders. I like having direct access to images/video taken from my devices, even if I can't access my email. Also Dropbox has that new "instant" feature they just rolled out, so give this a try http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/viri8/cerberus_to_dropbox/
Visit www.sendtodropbox.com and connect your Dropbox account, then you will be given a unique email address [email protected], save the email address.

Make sure you have these settings setup for the next step
Head to gmail and go to settings….forwarding and POP/IMAP…click on add forwarding address….use the email you were provided with earlier from www.sendtodropbox.com
In your Dropbox account you will have a plain text attachment with your conformation code to activate the forwarding of email.
Now head over to filters and create a new filter
The label setting is optional, but make sure you have the "forward it to" checked and select the email address you added earlier
Your filter should look like this
Finally head back to www.sendtodropbox.com and save these settings, you can arrange the "attributes" and "save to" as you please…hit save settings
Now head over to www.cerberusapp.com and test that it works, I just did send test message and upon dismiss it takes a pictures, then my Dropbox syncs the image.
Also Cerberus has a new beta https://www.cerberusapp.com/Cerberus_2.3beta.apk
adds these features:
Stealthy photo/video capture
There is a new "Transparent" option for the "Screen color" setting in the app configuration. When it's selected, if you send a "Take picture" or "Capture video" command from the web dashboard, checking the "Take picture/capture video immediately" option, you should not see anything on the device while Cerberus captures the photo/video.
SMS command to enable data roaming
The syntax is "cerberus yourpassword enableroaming", it should work only if Cerberus is integrated into the ROM.
Put call on speakerphone
When you open the test dashboard (link below), you'll see a new "Put on speakerphone" option in the "Call phone" command. Checking that option should make Cerberus enable the speakerphone and make the call. This could be useful to draw attention on the device if you lose it, other than the the alarm siren.

Though the SMS/Call function is best for smartphone, the stealth photo capture is cool
Am I missing a setting:
Every time that I try to dial a number from my contacts in the "People" app, the phone states, "No Internet Calling Account" with a further description, "There are no Internet calling accounts on this phone. Add one now?" The cancel or add buttons both work, but I just want to use the phone to dial!
Bad programming, or are you required to now have a SIP account setup on the phone to dial your contacts?
It is interesting to me that this setting would be defaulted to use internet calling... (wonder if it was from installing an app!)
I found in settings under the heading of Call, Use Internet Calling was set at For all calls when data network is available.
I changed this to "Only for Internet calls" and now everything works fine!
Hopefully this will be helpful for someone else... .
See if this helps:

Caution If located in Alaska, it's not recommended to turn off HD Voice & Video calling for troubleshooting purposes as it causes the device to roam off the Verizon Wireless network.

Yeah but when you turn it on, it wants a SIP account for VoLTE. Yet Verizon hasn't provided the SIP account details needed for it.

Mine does not do that.
What about if you click on the phone icon and then on the top right click on the three dots and then settings. At the bottom is an option under "Internet Call Settings" there is another option that says Use Internet Calling. Mine is set to "Only for Internet Calls".
On my Samsung Handy:
If I click on a sendto link, the Gmail app opens
On my new tablet Huawei M2 10 there is a selection without an entry for Gmail
How can I fix it?
Thank you
Erhy

First, ensure that Gmail is installed on the device, and is up-to-date with the latest version in the Google Play Store.
Then, press "Settings" -> "Apps", then press the "Advanced" option at the bottom left of the screen. From the "Advanced" menu, select the "Default app settings" option.
This will bring you to the "Default app settings" page shown above. In this page, press the "Email" line item, then select "Gmail" in the page that comes up for you to select the default email app.
At this point, Gmail should be set as your default email app. Good luck.

It is possible to set Gmail as Standard, but my HUAWEI M2 ignores.
Hmmm... Is your ROM a Lollipop (Android 5.1.1) ROM? I did have some issues with setting default apps on lollipop - i would set it but it seemed like the device would not use that setting.
Did you try setting email specifically to gmail like my screenshot shows, instead of "standard" like your screenshot shows?
Any joy with working this out?
I have the same issue on MM where the tablet ignores the default app setting.
Cheers
EDIT: ignore that, worked it out - but it does mean that the native email app has to be disabled in order to get the choice of Gmail or other email clients.

No, there is no need to disable the standard email app - AFAICT what this option does is that it just causes any mailto links (links which send emails) to cause the gmail app to open instead of the native exchange app. Both apps should still work.

With the native email app enabled, all email links were opened by it regardless of the default app setting.
With it disabled I then got the choice of my other email clients when clicking on an email link, again the default app setting was ignored as all email links should have been handled by Gmail which is already set as default.
Thank you beast.in.Black. You helped me figure this out on my P30 pro!
Solved. Disable Huawei email app
I had to also disable the built in Huawei email app to get this to work. It's bad that Huawei does that as they require email access to my Google account which I refuse to do. Poor respect for privacy it appears.
