Hey folks,
is it somehow possible to downgrade the radio to an older one without wiping or resetting the whole phone via RUU?
I just tried to flash an older one over the current radio image and it doesn't seem to work
Why do I want to downgrade anyways?
My phone crashs all the time. Especially when it's connected to the original charger from HTC (1000mA) and I try to use an app. Or when I use several apps at the same time, when not charging.
It could be the hardware-failure, everybody is talking about lately...
BUT I found out that everything is fine with the performance and stability of the phone, when I am using it in airplane-mode.
Everything was fine a few month backs, when I was using some older radios and ROMs.
The crashs seem to be somehow connected to mobile data usage (2g/3g). I've heard that some radios might be "better" in some regions as others. I'm from Germany, so maybe this is causing the instabilities.
I thought it is worth a try, before complaining hat HTC
Starting situation:
rooted AMOLED Desire (HBOOT 0.80.000 + S-ON)
AmonRa Recovery v2.0.1
Redux v1.1.1
vorkKernel 2.6.37.2 (CFS, SVS)
Radio 32.54.00.32_5.14.05.17
Thank you guys
You need to use the radio zips from recovery when you are s-on.

Most likely to be hardware failure. Send it to HTC for motherboard change. Search for desire overheating and rebooting on its own in the forums and see if symptoms match. Had mine replaced

have done that, but it doesn't affect any downgrade.
How have you exactly done it? And you sure you didn't get any errors in recovery?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Downloaded old radio from the thread here on xda
copied to SD
booted into AmonRa Recovery
flashed the zip directly from sd
no erros, flashing susscessful (something like that displayed)
selected "reboot phone"
As always the normale procedure...
except that this time the ROM was booted after leaving the recovery, instead of the regularly shown "radio-installation-box-logo"...

The phone is running since two days straight without any crash and exceptional battery life, heavy usage...the only downside...mobile data is deactivated.
Does nobody know how to downgrade the radio?
Thanks.
Actually after trying the senventh Radio (no ****!) I succeeded
The only downgrade was possible with the "32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2" radio.
And since then my phone is running stable again! Amazing

I have a Telus Desire HD and I managed to downgrade then root and Radio s-off,then installed Revolution HD 5.2.3 and everything is great.
However now i am selling it and the person that wants it says he wants it stock with no root or custom anything.
Honestly I don't know how to go about it to do this and that is why I need some help from someone that has more experience and knowledge than me.
Thanks in advance and if i left out any important info about my phone let me know and i will include it.
You should have made a backup of your stock rom .
if you did flash it though recovery. It will lose root. Still be s-off but they wont know ha.
failing that you need an official ruu. This is an .exe file used. With a windows pc. You will find these in the dev forum or the htc website. Ruu will.remove s-off radio-off and the eng hboot.
if you dort have a pc or cant connect your dhd to it. Flash a stock (but custom) ·rom and tell them its done.
.if they dont mod phones they wont know the difference.

Thanks twiztedvvv for replying...
I'm gonna run down once more what is on the DHD at the moment so I can get the correct info on how to bring this back to stock.

Before I rooted and installed custom rom the phone had the Telus logo when it booted but now its gone since I rooted and flashed the custom rom.
I managed to download to RUU's...
RUU_ACE_GINGERBREAD_S_TELUS_WWE_2.43.661.1_R_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_194001_signed

So after reading this what is your recommendation?Do i still need the gold card to flash the stock rom?
Thanks for the help bud!
Personally i would go for the first one you listed. Connect your phone to htc.sync and double click the ruu. It should run the update and return your phone to stock. No goldcard or special method needed. Let me know if it goes well?

Oh man I think something is wrong....I fired up the first RUU and went trough all the instructions and hit update and it rebooted the phone to the black screen with the htc logo and its been sitting there for like over 30 min. What should I do,should I disconnect and try again or what.
I am so scared that this damn phone is bricked, please help!!
Edit:
Wow I almost got a heart attack and thought it bricked but was relieved when it booted up again.
But now I am scared to attempt this again and I don't know what went wrong.
Did it flash the RUU? or are you still rooted?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
No,unfortunately it did not flash cause it got stuck at the black HTC screen and then I disconected the cable rebooted the phone.
And now I am totally scared to even make a second attempt but eventualy I will have to.What is the chance of bricking the phone while running th RUU?
I have never heard of it happening before but I don't want you to be the first.
I don't understand why it didn't flash. If Ruu are not compatible it won't try to flash them. Usually.
I know its not morally right. But could you flash a stock rom via recovery then remove the superuser app. Giving the impression of being stock. Will be safer for you.

Is it possible to even brick with RUU at all?I want to give it a second try but the thought off bricking is scaring me.I use to own an Iphone before I switched to Android and I had the worst experience with the Iphone that it left a mental scar on me.
Anyway I spoke to the guy that wants to buy my phone and he is basicaly now saying that he wont mind having the phone rooted but he would like to have a stock rom on it.
I tried to tell him that the current rom that I have on (Revolution HD 5.2.4) is way better than stock but he is not listening to me.
There are stock roms in the dev section. Ill grab a link for you if I have time. Bit busy at the monent sorry.
Idont think you can brick with an ruu but I'm not 100 percent. Id go with the stock rom through recovery.

No problem bud I will wait patiently for that link.
Maybe the ones I have are not compatible or the wrong ones,I have no idea at all.
I apreciate your help my friend and I am sure glad I signed up here and I have a great deal of learning to do.Thanks again!

This, I believe, is the best option. And the safest.
Its a standard zip to flash through recovery. Its rooted but as the person buying the phone said they want stock. This is the closest you will get without an RUU. Glad to be able to help.
Out of interest are you getting another android after selling your dhd.

I am definetely getting another Android.I am never going back to iPhone ever,it was a nightmare owning an iPhone in the past and it left me disappointed.
I am gonna get the sane as I have now a desire Hd but one that is new and comes with warranty. The one I am selling was used when I bought so no warranty.
I will let you know how it goes and thanks again for helping out, much appreciated.

Not sure why the ruu failed. But if you want to give an alternative a try is run the ruu for the first two steps, right before it begins flashing. Go into your temp folder. You'll see a folder named bunch of gibberish. In there look for rom.zip. copy it and rename it PD98IMG. Place in the root of your SD card and flash through hboot
So I am on Windows 7 and where is this temp folder located specifically?
Could it be possible that the RUU failure is caused by win7?
Sent from my Desire HD
In the start menu search %temp%.
Not sure. Could be maybe a driver issue? Did you have USB debugging on? Maybe a bad download?
I've ran ruus on windows 7. So I doubt its the os
I think I did have usb debuging on....you think tat could be the problem?
And thanks for the search tip I managed to find the folder.
I will give this a shot in the morning with a nice cup of coffee .
Sent from my Desire HD
ive always have mine to have usb debugging on when connected to a pc, but not positive that it is required for the ruu. Ive only ran an RUU a couple of times.
Also do you have HTC Sync installed? if not install it and try RUU again. Personally i prefer the PD98IMG method though. keep us posted
I do have HTC synch installed so I think that can't be the problem.
I'll try the RUU method one more time and if it fails then I will try your method.
Thank's for your kind help sir.

ok. let me know if it works. maybe try the other ruu this time. first one you tried must be wrong. good luck
Hi guys I have a HTC wildfire, and when I got it, it was locked to Orange (UK) and
thought I would root it, I followed a full guide here on XDA and I used HBoot x.2 to x.1 downgrade then rooted with revolutionary and it has successfully been rooted with ClockworkMod Recovery v.2.5.0.1 and with any rom I flash, it will say "NO service" requesting a sim unlock code at lockscreen unlock.
I REPEAT ORANGE (THE ORIGINAL CARRIER) does not give me a signal.
Does anyone know whats wrong?
Do I need a newer radio?
I went to some market stools with people that have the XTC clip to unlock phones and they needed to find out the original carrier, I told them 'Orange' they said they can't do it because every sim card they tried, they couldn't get a signal so they couldn't modify it.
Thank you.
Try to Reflash the Radio.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Yeah, most probably going to need a radio reflash... check out the complete wildfire index (stickied on the wildfire development forum) to find a list of radios.. try them all one at a time, and one should work!
Good luck!

Yeah, update: I flashed a Rom that came with a radio update but it was the same radio so I guess reflashing was the solution lol, thanks

I am in a dilemma with my one x, whether to wait until s-off is here or to unlock the mobile through htcdev.com!
But I am thinking about the warranty, I read that flashing the original RUU will revert the phone to the original state. I am from India, So I think I need the RUU with version 1.26.720.2
Please give me some suggestions!
I also very much want to know the answer to this.
Please vote your wish.
Can't resist to flash the latest custom roms, especially leedroid's

What's the difference? I unlocked on htcdev.com
When you unlock through htcdev.com there were some drawbacks regarding warranty. But when you unlock using s-off you can easily bring your mobile to factory state for warranty.
Can some one post how exactly we can claim for warranty when we unlock through htcdev.com?
I can't avoid all the features which will work only with rooting. So finally I had unlocked my mobile through htcdev.com
I'd say wait 1 week before you do it, perhaps next week there is already a way to do it ^^. (That warranty is lost forever, so I wouldn't do it impulsively).
Offtopic : you really have a giant signature OP ;-)!
I still waiting for S-Off. As if now I don't need rooted device since i'm enjoying the stock apps and stock ROM. Once i'm tired then I may unlocked.
Im awaiting s-off just for warranty reasons
Mod or Die
I'm torn. I need root to make several things work in Norway....
I am new with htc.i came from Samsung. I am just saying in samsung when u wanted to go back in original mode u just used official roms and boom u were in warranty. Isnt that the same with htc? i just used htcdev method to remove some craps from 3 network but i am sure i could go back to warranty using an RUU.
And as i spoke for RUU is there any topic gathering all the RUU's? Where can i found them?
Normally flash straight away but had it 3 weeks and still resiited so far waiting for s off

Just search the topic until you find a functional link.
personally I want S-OFF via htc dev. If they are going to try and void the warranty because the software is being messed with anyway why not give me full access.
i unlocked my phone but i got insurance from my carrier, so should i break it my phone might by accident get a knock out of my hand and over the viaduct lol
but I'm a lucky one and got a flawless HOX so i have no need to return it
It would've been nice to migrate app data from my desire HD to my HOX using titanium, but I guess that won't be possible.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using Tapatalk
As much as i get tempted to go through htcdev i'm going to hang on, especially now i got a 1.28 update through Three UK. There are some seriously clever devs here so i'm sure sooner or later an S-OFF will come.

What app data do you want to migrate? I only brought my SMS and Bookmarks across with me, using SMS BackupPro and Bookmarks to SD. Don't game a lot, so that was never important...
I am waiting for S-Off. I am actually really happy how my phone works in stock form and sometimes custom ROMs can have one little bug or another, so you are constantly flashing, chasing that perfect and stable ROM.
I will likely want to install custom soon, so if there is no S-Off by mid-year, maybe I'll just go with HTCDev.
I'm wanting S-Off rather than using HTCdev as from following the S-Off Dev thread in here the changing of CID to none rather than the stock HTC CID could hinder going S-Off in the future even with a relock. I also don't feel the need to go Custom ROMing while unbranded handsets are getting things updated by HTC.
I'll wait for a couple of weeks post Kernel source release then make my mind up.
Really difficult coming from.my ENG S-Off Desire HD though.

My phone is on Hboot 1.31 and I'm using the cyanogen 10 rom. I'd like to install the latest Jelly Bean OTA RUU from htcruu.com.
Will I be able to install this even though I'm on Hboot 1.31 without any problems? Can I just run the exe and be done with it?
http://www.htcruu.com/Endeavor/RUU_...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_298897_signed.exe
I have checked that my htc version should work with the RUU.
Thanks

Yes that will work just fine. It will update the hboot too.

Thanks.
Will it un-root my device and make it look like it's never been touched?
My HTC One X has recently suffered some kind of major battery/over-heating problem which means it now shuts down when being used intensively for a short period, and it also won't charge over 60%. I need to send it back to HTC (I'm still in warranty) but I know they won't touch it if they think I've voided the warranty.

No, nothing can "un-root" your device if you don't have S-OFF. And even if you did, they would know that you unlocked your bootloader because you did it at HTCdev.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
That's right. Unfortunately the only bootloader unlock method for the One X is via HTCdev, which voids your warranty. Even if you run an RUU and return to stock, the bootloader will display 'RELOCKED' at the top. Phones like my HTC Desire HD have other bootloader unlock methods with full S-OFF, and returning to stock will bring it to an untouched state that doesn't void warranty. This isn't possible on One X.
The answers here are correct except for the unrooting part, it will unroot the rom because you will go back to stock JB
