After installing and then uninstalling a screen dimming program (adjBrightness) my list sensor stopped working. I'm using SuperNova Rom on ext4 but I don't think that matters. When I do a factory reset the light sensor works fine. When I then do a recovery mode restore of Data only the light sensor is nonfunctioning again. Anyone know what file might be affecting this? What could have been changed that messed up the sensor. I'm assuming a driver was corrupted or something.
Thanks-
Jason
If it works until you do a restore of data it must have something to do with that app you installed.

Yeah, I'm assuming it modified some system file but I don't know what. It requires root access so it must be doing something low-level. Just wish I knew what so I can fix it.

Well clearly you know the proper code if you've gotten so far as it not finding the accelerometer. I've only had this happen to me once, and I think it was a combination of doing the terminal command and trying the built in calibration. Either way, I was unable to find a manual way of fixing it besides wiping data 3X and re-flashing. I did not have to go back to stock, however.

Once you have your phone happy, you may want to look into MyBackup Root. It's a great program for backing up all of your apps and their data. Or you can pick and choose which ones you wish to back up, and likewise choose which to reinstall. It's very useful. However, if you're switching Roms at any point, do not backup and restore Android and System settings across two different Roms as you'll likely encounter issues.

all my apps just restored themselves I guess its because I had titanium backup installed
unfortunately, gallery stopped working when using "capture picture" via messaging
When using the stock messaging app, if I use the "capture picture" option, it allows me to take a picture, but when I hit the check mark to select the picture, it closes with the unfortunately, gallery has stopped working message. This only happens on the messaging app. Works fine with hangouts and other apps. Its also the stock camera.
I am on 4.3, but I have restored my 4.2 and same thing. It worked last weekend and maybe monday, but yesterday and today, its done working.
Ive cleared cache's and data and same thing.
Any ideas on what may be causing this and what can fix it?
Im on the unofficial CM10.2 and it just worked for me. So I have no idea. Maybe its the gallery app thats included in the gapps package you use.

gapps was built into shiny rom, nobody else had the issue either. Im throwing on FTL right now to see if that does anything. I'm at a total loss on what the issue is. I reverted to 4.2 and I know it was working there and now its not.
When restoring from recovery using cwm, what files or directories does not get changed?

I have no idea then if no one else using that ROM had no issues either. If you are the only one having that issue then it makes it even harder to figure out. And I'm not sure how recovering a backup works exactly. I always thought it pretty much wiped the whole system and flashed the backup.

Yup, only one. There are a handful of S3 users that have a similar issue as well but so far, i think I'm the only GN.
I was under the impression of a recovery backup/restore was a mirror image of what was backed up too, but there is something that isnt. The problem seeped into my perfect backup somehow.
It's the original calculator and it crashed immediately when I open it
Is there anyone else who meet the problem. How to solve it?

I also got this issue, anyone has a clue? at my nexus 6 btw
I got the 6.0.1 OTA just now and I'll check once it's installed. Maybe try wiping data and/or cache for it?
UPDATE: Just checked and not an issue for me. Running stock and not rooted... yet.

Just an idea but go to your Developer options then scroll to the very bottom and select Inactive apps. Touch to toggle it for calculator and try again.

Thankyou for the brain storming you guys, still it didnt had any effect.
6p, and I have the same issue.. Strange.
Did you guys flash the update using factory image files or did you flash the actual OTA file? Because I find that flashing files from the factory images to update can cause issues sometimes. The OTA files sometimes have upgrade scripts that may change some things that need to be changed on the /data partition and you wouldn't get those changes if you just flashed the new /system partition.
Last night I was having this issue (as mentioned above). Today, the calculator app opens up just fine. Even more strange...
Tried the slap fix. Checked cpu z and my sensors look normal but I'm not sure really what they should look like. Tried turning rotation off then rebooting then turning back on. I have xposed, I saw another forum where someone said they disabled something in xposed to fix it but they didn't say what. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've done the dev conversion and rooted.
Have you uninstalled any apps (especially using Titanium Backup)?
Trying to uninstall Facebook or Instagram using Titanium Backup broke screen rotation for me. Manually deleting the app folders in /system/app/ was fine, though.

I did uninstall both of them with tb. And like the smart person I am I made no backup. Help?
Edit: Would installing from the app store fix it?
Edit:Edit: I tried, it didn't work. What can I do?
Is there a place I can download the apks from the stock image? I have the stock incremented one installed from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...nt/firmware-safe-upgrade-to-lollipop-t3313224
Would that even fix this issue?
It's not so much the apps themselves that's the issue, apparently TB deletes some system libraries that affect screen rotation.
The easiest/safest thing to do would be to reflash one of the safe upgrade options and re-root the phone. Deleting most apps with TB seems to be safe, but manually delete Facebook & Instagram.
Glad to hear the cause of this issue has been narrowed down to the uninstall of Insta and Facebook from system apps. Do you know if it's still safe to disable these apps by using something like Root App Disabler?
This worked for me. Dont flash , just copy the file in the zip to where it needs to go and reboot. It should be fine. Ofcourse make a backup in case.

I have disabled Facebook and Instagram using Titanium Backup and later manually deleted the apps from /system without affecting screen rotation.
The only issue appears to be using Titanium Backup to uninstall them.
I, too, have this problem with Jasmine v7.0. I have deinstalled facebook via TB and now screen rotation no longer works. I tried the libgnustl_shared.so fix but that does not seem to work for me as screen rotation is still broken. If anyone has another idea I am willing to give it a try. Otherwise I think I may re-flash Jasmine and manually remove facebook.

I would try a dirty flash of the exact version of the ROM you're using. It should reinstall the missing programs without messing much else up.

If you can't find anything else that works, wiping and re-flashing with Jasmine 7.0 definitely does. I flashed + deleted facebook quite a few times before I realized it was causing the screen rotation bug. It's tedious, but it will get rid of the problem.
Seems like facebook deletion via TB is not the only way to break screen rotation. I did a test and deleted several apps via TB (but left facebook installed) and I cannot pinpoint exactly which one broke rotation I can confirm that screen rotation did stop working. Therefore it seems that the best route altogether would be to delete apps manually instead of using TB to do so.

I'm running Jasmine V7, MM. Can you please tell me what ROM your fix worked for. I tried downloading, copy pasting "libgnustl_shared.so" to correct folder (mine was missing). Then, battery out/ reboot -didn't work. Other Note: I don't think I can dirty flash my ROM in the traditional sense as Jasmine V7 was only released in backup form. I would have wipe and to do fresh install. (This would suck as it mine is heavily modified) -THX!

...worked on my VZW Note 4 running 6.0.1
Well, I do not know when or how but Whatsapp app is broken on my device! Just not starting anymore, I only get some force crash screen of about 1 second and that's it...
I have a Note 8T with latest EEA software 12.5.4.0 MIUI 12.5, rooted with Magisk, custom recovery (OrangeFox)
Funny story but enabling dual apps for Whatsapp, basically another user, I managed to start and use the app, as a secondary app because the base app is still dead!
Now, my question is:
How do I get Whatsapp to function normally again???
Things I tried:
1. clean cache and data - no fix
2. uninstall/ install app - no fix
3. enable miui optimizations - no fix
4. fix/ repair data partition in OrangeFox recovery - no fix
Is there anything else I could try in order to fix this issue? It might be somehow related with the user part of the data partition? But why only this app is affected then?
I'm just baffled by this turn... don't know what to do anymore...

try with :
uninstall/reboot/install
if still not work
go to : Data/system/dropbox
delete everything
open wsp and send the generated crash log (from that folder)
Well, tried twice uninstall/ install procedure... Same result...
Thank for this info. I'll try.

i said uninstall/!REBOOT!/install
when you reboot, the package manager will delete the app leftover
the app crash because there is some data left from a previous version
try deleting "com.whatsapp" folder from
/data/data/
and from
/user_de/0/
also whatsapp folder on internal storage
Holly mackerel!!!
You know how many times I rebooted this device???
But, now, it worked without deleting anything except the dropbox content you mentioned earlier!
It just went smooth, install, setup, restore backup and all without a glitch!
THX A BUNCH!!!
Anyway, I would really love to know how was this possible in the first place as I did nothing specially regarding this app... and found myself in this situation of not being able to use it anymore... why only this app? Was something some update maybe that broke something?

dosn't matter how many time
what matters here is the timing (reboot after uninstall, once booted install)
