[Q] at&t's 4g network? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just got my g2 unlocked and edge works fine on it. I know 3g won't work because T-mobile has a proprietary frequency for their 3g....
then it sorta hit me as i was on att's website, would it be possible for me to get att's new hdpa network, or their upcoming LTE?

You do know they make a Desire Z that works with AT&T's 3g network right?
http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-z-850-1900-3g-unlocked.html
Also I doubt that the G2 will work on any upcoming AT&t 4g network.

... and definitely not LTE. There's no radio for that in the g2.

You will only be to access 2G/edge data speeds, no 3G connectivity since AT&T uses different 3G bands.. assuming you are currently using a T-Mobile G2 with the carrier T-Mobile... :?
You won't have any signal issues unless AT&T has horrible coverage where you live.
you will not change anything hardware related... you just unlock/root your phone which allows you to modify hardware and software related things. But if you don't touch the antenna software then nothing will change
@CaliBoyPhillip; when I was in the states my phone switched from AT&T and T-Mobile all the time (roaming) and still had 3g reception, the phone supports most frequencies.
no im currently using a Aria with AT&T but im getting the G2 or the G2X tomorrow. and ok so i wont lose my 3G?

G2x will work with At&ts 3g/4g. As for G2 I was told it doesn't support the 3g/4g from at&t. Remember the buy out isn't final yet.

hmmm Interesting... it was prob due to the reason that you were roaming but if he uses an AT&T SIM on his SIM unlocked G2 from T-Mobile, he won't have 3G access I think... The G2 runs on 850/900/1800/1900 for edge and 1700/2100 radio for 3G data, meanwhile AT&T operates on 850/1900 for EDGE and 850/1900 for 3G.... not compatible !
EDIT: source for the bands ATT uses for 3G gotten from here.. http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=14003

THis is correct. The G2 WILL NOT work with ATT 3G. If you want 3G you need to purchase the NAM (North American Model) of the Desire Z. It is sold in Canada on the Bell Network. You can find it online unlocked and unbranded and it WILL work on ATT no problem. It is going to cost you though, 450-550 depending where you get it.
Same reason iphone won't connect to tmobile 3g...amazing people still don't understand this

ok so stupid question but im gonna ask it anyways lol is there anything that i can do to make it work with 3G if i dont want to buy the desire z?
Not unless you know how and which chipset to replace on the board. Ie not possible.

Nope, the phone's hardware is what decides what bands it can use.

Get a desire Z from rodgers Canada the 3g bands are the same
To bad radio isn't software
It's to bad that phones don't have the radio frequencies programmable in software (much like an fm radio). Is that even possible?

Is G2 able to do AT&T 3g when unlocked?

So I have a G2 I was think about getting unlocked, but I wasnt sure of what to excpect. I have read that when unlocked that the G2 is capible of doing 3G on AT&T as well. Can anyone confirm this or not for me? Thanks in advance!
Long answer: even when unlocked, the T-Mobile G2 cannot do 3G on AT&T's network. You need to get the HTC Desire Z from Bell in order for it to have the proper hardware for 3G on AT&T. This is because the G2 lacks the hardware capability of using AT&T's 3G bands.
Short answer: no
As the previous poster said, no it won't get 3G on AT&T.
You'll get EDGE only.

[Q] Tmobile Network

Anybody running one of these unlocked on Tmobile's network? if so, what kind of speeds are you getting?
I have tried a T-Mobile SIM in my Nitro before just for the heck of it. (I bought an unlock code for mine if anyones wondering.) Speedtest.net app said like 160kbps down, I forget what the up was but it was pretty low in the double digit kbps.
I am using on tmobile also...its not that fast since u only get 2g but to me its worth the sacrifice for this sweet phone

why do you only get 2g? why cant u get 4g?

T-Mobile in the US uses different frequencies for HSPA/HSPA+ than AT&T and has no LTE, so any AT&T phone used on T-Mobiles network only gets 2G.

Just to elaborate. T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 aka AWS for 3G/HSPA. AT&T uses 850 and 1900 bands for 3G/HSPA.
There are phones that do all 3 bands, such as the Galaxy Nexus or HTC Amaze 4G, but its not common.
Sent from my LG Nitro HD
It might be possible to get 3G on T-Mobile it was done for ATT Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717 and ATT SGH-i727 by flashing modem from T-Mobile Galaxy S2. The LG Nitro HD features same cpu and modem as samsungs phones (APQ8060, MDM9200) so someone knowledge enough might be able to flash a model from a T-Mobile phone like Blaze 4G or T-Mobile S2 onto Nitro HD and 3G going on AWS.

Can I force roaming on tmobile network with an at&t sim card?

Hi everyone,
I recently obtained an AT&T sim card and installed it into my unlocked and rooted tmo g2. I was under the assumption that I would be able to at least get 3g on the AT&T network with my phone, but did not realize that the g2 does not support the frequency bands for at&t 3g. I currently only get 2g/edge, data is slow and calls are sketchy.I have all the apn's setup correctly, I know I do. The phone simply does not support the frequency for 3g.
I was wondering if I can force my phone to always roam on the tmobile network somehow so that I can obtain 3g or even by some stroke of luck 4g. I have national roaming so there is no charge.
Is This Possible???
Somebody please help me figure this out or tell me why it will not work.
XDA is a genius pool, somebody out there knows...
Thank you in advance

You can use AT&T's network with a phone that has an unlocked sim slot, but AT&T's 3G band (same band Canada Bell 3G is on) is different from T-Mobile's, as a result you won't be able to use 3G on AT&T's network.
The same is true if you bought an international Desire-Z and tried to use a T-Mobile Sim, no 3G speeds on T-Mobile, but 3G with an international GSM/HSPA carrier.
PS: The G2/DZ does not support 4G, the only time you ever seen 4G in the indicator is when the phone is on HSPA mode (kind of in between 3G and true 4G speeds).
In a nutshell, a T-Mobile G2 will ONLY be able to get 3G and faster on T-Mobile's Network.
----- The above mainly for people coming in wondering the difference ----
In regards to force roaming with T-Mobile's network, as far as I am aware the two have a limited pairing arrangement, with a AT&T Sim, you would get minimum edge speeds with T-Mobile. (ie: why would a competitor give you more than just basic service). ie: you're not a T-Mobile Subscriber, as such you'll only get Edge (if any data at all) when roaming outside of AT&T's coverage.

[Q] Verizon HTC One flashed to Cricket with working 3G

I have a Verizon HTC One that has been flashed to cricket. I can call, text, and i get 3G data. i was wondering if i could get 4G on Crickets new gsm network. would the radios be compatible? i would love to be able to get 4g on this phone on cricket? is there a way to unlock the 1900 band for LTE with S-OFF?
i dont know if i can get MMS yet but ill try and update.
The lte radio on the Verizon m7 is locked to the 700mhz spectrum band 13. I'm pretty sure there isn't any way to get lte on another network with this device.
@disconnecktie is correct. Only mvno that you would get 4G is one that uses Verizon towers. I don't think cricket sources to Verizon.
