WP7's shorter development times paying off?

From Pocket Gamer:
"Puzzle Quest 2 will hit Windows Phone 7 before the year is out, says Namco, and an Android version will release in early 2011."
Looks like we're starting to see new output coming to WP7 before Android nowadays. Could this be due to the development of WP7 apps being so much easier than for Android?
In talking to a few studios, this theme is becoming quite apparent...
yeah it is pretty simple to design easy and cool apps
They did a contest once to see who developed the best app in a specific time and wp7 won ^^
Not surprising.
Microsoft did a very good job embedding XNA in to Windows phone 7. If you guys have followed the demonstration of WP7's game development videos, you will see that exact code to code in a simple Xbox 360 game is in used the WP7 verson.
I think devs are cottoning onto this and in a few months most if not all new games and apps will be out for WP7 way before rival platforms. The next big game to supplant "Angry Birds" may have Android users fuming while their WP7-toting mates are already playing it.

Mobile OS Bowl Bracket Showdown: WP7 vs WebOS

In the final now of OS Bowl. Lets take down Charlotte'sWeb.

The OS Bowl is back and looks like we made it to the semifinals! Is it possible to take out the lemmings of iPhone?

There is an OS Bowl showdown where WP7 is on a classic bracket list with other mobile operating systems. Android and Apple got first round byes, but we are in a fight with Blackberry for the next round.
So can we show up and beat Blackberry and take it one step further? Go to the page and show your vote!

My first thoughts were that this is pretty biased. On the right hand side of the draw you have two big players and a new gun, on the left you just have Android!
Anyhow, WP7 seems to be doing quite well. Currently (after my vote) WP7 has 70% of the vote.
Yeah that bracket is a fail. MeeGo and WebOS are outdated and dead in the water are they not? And what about Bada? It's a very valid entry.
If whomever set that up knew anything about smartphones, they'd know the main competitors are: android, ios, wp7, and blackberry. And even blackberry is on its way out. It's only got the hold it has now because of a past hold on the market.
The bracket could be more unforgiving. At least WP7 doesn't have to go against all 3 in the same draw. WP7 seems to be holding its own right now, but it looks like the "we-don't-all-have-touchscreens-yet" crew is not giving up on the bracket poll yet.

I like webOS. But the choice in hardware is iffy, not to mention the boot up time that apparently takes ages.

BlackBerry OS is kind of boring with the sole exception of the PlayBook.

My opinion that WebOS is one of the best OS ever developed. I would easily take WebOS over any of them, if I could. I believe the next round will have Android against WebOS for leader of the left bank and WP7 against iOS for leader of the right bank. The ultimate winner will be very interesting, though.
we are competing with blackberry ... lol
I didnt even know its an os!
Well in the next year or so, who knows what OS will be on top and which would be a after thought. After this year, it is hard to fathom any more new mobile operating system releases as the space is full. I think the bracket is more of a popularity contest rather than functionality contest. Saying that though, the bracket shows an impressive, albeit unofficial representation for WP7.
let the voting and ego measuring recommence.
So WebOS somehow managed to beat Android?

lol I have no idea if that is the case in real life, but in terms of user base and top of mind awareness, that contest is rigged (or at least not accurate).
Also, lulz for wp7 having like 86% right now over iOS.
I'm not surprised that webOS won, that simply means the Android fan club couldn't make it to the webpage. Android really isn't that good of an OS, it's memory management is suspect, it's basically a modern WinMo, the same OS that the world criticized. Google just marketed it, threw in a bigger app selection, and put it on prettier phones and the world fell in love with it. With that being said, webOS is a pretty solid OS for what it's worth.
Also, attack me all you want, but WP7 is a superior OS.

I'd agree with that. Microsoft is a huge company for a reason, from time to time they do know what they're doing. And wp7 is the next step in smartphones. It's just head and shoulders above the rest.
...they just have to fix the hanging marketplace errors...

Luckily for me, your home seems to be in the Android sections, which makes your opinion idiotic and void, thanks for playing though, even though you provided absolutely nothing to this thread. You guys don't really need to get bitter over losing a bracket on a website, do you?
This is really going to be interesting. I predict it will be between WebOS and iOS and I really have no prediction of which one of those two outstanding mobile OSs would win. I feel like WebOS should win, but my nephew's Pixi has been a little bit buggy. iOS doesn't have bugs. So, in all likelihood, it might be iOS.
EDIT - I just looked at the iOS vs. WP7 poll results and WP7 has a huge lead. So it might be between WP7 and WebOS. In that case I would give the nod to WebOS.
WP7 vs iOS and WP7 is taking over 75%
Honestly, I think WebOS should win. Its a better OS overall when compared to the other platforms out there. The only problem is the hardware that comes with it. Palm/HP really needs to step there game up. And this coming from a WP7 advocate.
Quick Update. WebOS vs Windows Phone 50 ~ 50.

and we somehow managed to beat iOS. I'm sorry i love my wp7 but this poll is a joke. If WebOS beats WP7 its obviously BS

Vote for Win Phone 7 in the OS Bowl; Very Close Battle!

LaptopMag is having a battle of the smartphone OSes and Windows Phone 7 is up against Web OS in the championship. Don't let Web OS win; they beat Android, so they must have some serious campaigning going on. Spread the word, too!

I really don't get the appeal of webOS... it's about as dull as blackberry with the functionality of bada... I tried it out (finally) on a junk device that somebody forgot to pick up and I was in no way impressed...
gogo help WP7
Thanks for your support!
Wife and I voted. We each have a focus.

The Tide Might Be Starting To Turn...

Seen the 710 on Sunday NFL Countdown this morning. The break right before Picks when everyone is watching, playoff time. Funny what money and Nokia will do for you. I firmly feel 12 will be the year WP starts to turn the corner. The sky is the limit, it up to Microsoft to deliver.
I'll be waiting for Brady kick Tebow's butt today but, I hope it does become the year for WP7.
I dont just count billions of sales to be "making it", it's when it's accepted everywhere. When my local TV/Radio station that has iOS and Android apps, start offering WP7 apps and when the big apps/games hit on iOS/Android, they get a release the same week on WP7.
Then WP7 will really make it...

Agreed on everything, including I hope Uncle Bill and Uncle Tom teach young Timmy something about playing football in the snow.
Still, to me, it feels like the platform has a much needed second wind. The excitement over W8 plus the Metro update on the X-box dashboard and the Nokia's it feels new and different. Obviously it could all fall apart but I'm hopefull.
through out history there is little growth for the third player. I hope Microsoft will improve their product and raise awareness for Windows Phone!

Your "awareness" plea made me think of this ^
There was another post higher about "billions of sales" not being a qualified metric for realization of success. That, I just can't get my head wrapped around. Is windows a bigger success than mac, because of desktop sales?
Discus..
Well, windows phone still looks pretty dead to me

Xbox Live Games for Android and iOS?

I feel itchy to post when I read irritating news. Just read this http://www.wpcentral.com/switching-xbox-live-boosted-wordament-and-can-help-other-games-too and I know it's not yet official but if this happens to be true, Screw WP & Microsoft.
Why is MS always making ziggy decisions? Xbox on Android and iOS? Then why bother buy a WP? Xbox Live is an advantage to WP and keeps on attracting fans to the OS and we are just gonna make it all available, WP is dead for sure....NO DOUBT. I have friends, colleagues who just bought WP because of Xbox, bringing more people to the platform and thus boosting sales. These mobile OSs (Android and iOS) don't create anything for WP so why all these support to them. I always ask and gonna ask again, which people make decisions at Microsoft? Would like to meet them one day. WP platform has nothing as compared to Android and iOS, and we trying to give away the little gold we have to these other platforms...are we slaves?
Please MS, have some pride and be distinct...you have fans like us here who would love to be distinct, iconized and have features on our beloved OS to boast with and make other OSs jealous....finally attracting more customers. Moving our precious Xbox and tasty achievements to our competitors will do us no good, will just kill WP, and I will have nothing to boast with to my rich droid and iOs fanboys...it'll be just like porting Xbox achievements to Playstation and Nintendo, why will you attract customers from these platforms then?
MICROSOFT, PLEASE MAKE US PROUD SONS, SOME DECISIONS YOU MAKE KILLS THE SPIRIT IN MOST OF US....IS IT BECAUSE OF THE BENJAMINS??
JUST PRAY ALL THIS IS FALSE GIMMICK.
That's not what it says at all. Its trying to explain the benefits of adding Xbox Live functionality to games on Windows Phone. They even updated it to clarify that.

not only is there no inference to xbox live for IOS/android , but the questions and answeres read like a defensive politician in recovery mode:
Q: “You’re bringing functionality [from] the Xbox to mobile?”
A: “Absolutely. The same people who engage on the console are the same users who have the Live account who engage on the mobile titles. We find there’s a great deal of migration between the separate screens.”
no where even close to answering the question. this is just another attempt at marketing instead of answering very simple, very precise questions.
another example of a wtf moment:
Q: “What [is the] number of games you’re looking for right now [for Xbox Live on Windows Phone]?”
A: “Again, it’s a relatively curated portfolio. We’re interested in all phenomenal IP, but specifically things that would be debuting on the Windows platform. [So being exclusive to Windows Phone] is a plus.”
simple question, vague, pointless markrtspeak answer again.
and the biggest wtf of the q/a session:
Q: “What are the device sales numbers for Windows [Phone] right now?”
A: “High. Very high. I can [elaborate] more when contacted directly.”
reallllllly? very very high? is this an actual person answering questions or a robot with only positive, computer generated marketing doublespeak responses availible?
did I miss something, or was he just asked, directly, how the sales were?
interview? ha!
