[Q] Radio on ROMS - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I get the radio to work on VIPER or cyanogen? If the radio would work, I would be fine. Please help, I am desperate and in fear of a bricked phone. my backup i created will not restore.
Thanks
Kyle

Go to the dev section and get the "official" dk28 odin image. That will flash your radio as well as the rom. Then re-root, reinstall clockwork, and try again.

Simpleroot ota

ok i just used the simple root method to root my phone. now my 3.5 jack doesnt work cant use a head set. Also i notice it downgraded everything. I wanna use flips roms but it says i need the newest radio and build. Is there anyway to get that without flash the stock rooted rom. Or do i just flash it then flash flips. Someone please help me im really confused right now
not sure if it helps, but after you root you should wipe then flash a new rom (like fresh if thats what you want). Then after you flash the rom you can flash the newest radio (unless the dev said to flash radio first)
go get the 1.47 build, flash that on there, then root it. it'll update your radio and 4g, then root and flash flipz.
ok confused cause i had the 1.47 build then used simpleroot for it but it downgraded my software but gave me full root. where can i get the 1.47 build at
all i want to do is to be able to use flips roms.

When I do a NAND Backup, does it backup the radio???

When I do a NAND Backup, does it backup the radio???
Just wondering in case I have problems with the radio I flash... if I can go back to where I am today (including the radio)...
Thanks!
No it does not.
So what if I want to go back to my stock 1.36 radio (or would there be no reason for me to do this since 2.05 is that much better)?
Also, will the 2.05 radio work with any ROM (including my stock sprint rooted 1.32.651.6 firmware)?
Read. This has been discussed 100 times.
The new radio will only work with the newest stock OTA or a ROM that is based off the newest OTA which is clearly spelled out in the first post of any new ROM thread.
Ok... thx... I hate to follow up with more noob questions, but does that mean I need to flash a latest OTA rom before I can go to CM6 because I need to flash the lastest radio BEFORE installing cm6?
No, you can flash radios and kernels separately from ROMs. Just flash CM6, then flash a radio, and you should be good.

Follow the instructions on the thread for the ROM you want to install.
And since I can see this coming a mile away, if you flash CM6, you will lose 4G and HDMI. No there is no way around it. So don't do it then wonder why it doesn't work.
Thanks for the help... I was aware that Wimax and HDMI aren't working yet on CM6 RC1 .. but don't need either...

If I upgrade to Fresh Rom 3x (2.2), will a Nandroid take me back to 1.0.1 (2.1)???

I'm currently running Fresh Rom 1.0.1 which is Elcair 2.1 with all the radios that were current for it.
I want to try out Fresh Rom 3.1.0.1 or whatever the version number is which is Froyo 2.2 but I also have to upgrade those radios etc.
My question is, if I do a Nandroid backup, and don't like it or can't get ALL my apps I need working, will a Nandroid backup take me back? I asked in the Fresh Rom thread, no one replied.
Thank you.
You don't strictly have to upgrade the radios, you'll just see better performance. Also, 4G might not work with the Froyo ROM if you don't upgrade the radio. If you downgrade via a Nandroid backup, this won't roll back the radios. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the baseband is generally not included in the rooted ROMs.

As mentioned in the other post, you don't *HAVE* to upgrade your radios. Those are just to make sure you have the most up to date firmware for your phone's radios.
As far as nandroid, from what I understand about it it's just your phones rom/current set up. So if you make a nandroid backup, then flash a 2.2 rom, and then restore your nandroid you will be in the same rom your nandroid backup was made. Also, if you flash a 2.2 rom, then flash a 2.1 rom, you will be back in 2.1. Even if you didn't make a nandroid, or even if you upgraded your radios. None of that should matter.
In addition to all of this information, you posted this in the development area, and it really belongs in the Q&A area. So next time you might want to make sure to put your questions there.
Hope this helps!
OK thanks for the info.
Oh and I posted in BOTH the Fresh thread AND the Q&A, no one replied to either of my threads so I waited a bit and posted in the Developer thread as it was dev related anyway and poof, it was replied to. It got moved, but you guys replied.
That said, so the radio updates would work on Eclair too then? Might as well update those if they do anyway.
The regular radio wont matter but if you have 4G and you updated your wimax radio. Going back to 2.1 might require you to roll back to the previous wimax version also.
I personally flashed 3.1.0.1 from 1.0.1, then nandroided straight back to 1.0.1 and back again. No problems at all, and I never upgraded the radios.

CM6 back to stock 2.2 (rooted)

I apologize if this has already been answered, but I wasn't able to find an answer on the forums.
I was successful at flashing the CM6 stable ROM to my EVO 4g, but in order to do so I had to downgrade my bootloader to .76. I would like to restore my stock ROM using my nandroid backup, but it fails to load the boot image. Apparently this is because of a version mismatch?
Does anyone have the stock PC36IMG.zip file that I can download so I can restore the stock ROM?
Thanks!
Thread moved to Q&A.

Not sure if you really want the stock rom with all your settings back, or just want to go back to sense UI, but if it's the latter, here's the rooted stock rom to flash:

I would like to get the stock rom with all my settings/apps back, but I suppose I could try your link as a fallback if it's not possible.

How do I back up my stock recovery?

US Cellular has been promising Froyo for the CDMA Desire since October, and I'm tired of waiting so I'm going to root it and flash a Froyo ROM myself. I read through the unrEVOked documentation, and it mentions that if I want to install official updates in the future I need to restore the recovery image, but it doesn't tell me how to get it. How do I pull the stock recovery image from my phone so that I can flash it back on should I need to?
You can't actually backup a whole rom without rooting first. You need the custom recovery to do a nandroid backup which will back up the whole rom. If anything does go wrong or you need to reinstall then you can just use an RUU to do it. US Cellular doesn't have an RUU yet but you can use other CDMA RUU's.
So am I to understand that there is no way to back up the stock recovery, as I would have to overwrite the existing recovery just to do backups in the first place?
Yep, root access is needed to back the whole ROM up
To be honest, it's better with root anyway and a lot better when you install a custom rom.... from my experience anyway.
