or flash CM7

You need a gingerbread rom for that like these guys said. You can't flash it on to a froyo rom.

This is exactly what you are looking for. And I highly recommend it as I have used it for over a month with no issues at all.
Read up on this link and go for it. It is just like stock but very fast.
You can also flash a new kernel which I also recommend from pershoot.

Just curious as to why you specifically didn't want Cyanogenmod?
When I first got my first android phone I really didn't think I'd ever need anything more than a rooted stock rom, but after trying CM6 (which was the latest at the time), I never wanted to be on a stock ROM. CM really gives you the feeling of the stock rom (I even just install the stock launcher instead of ADW) but with tons of useful improvements in speed, battery life, and usability.
Not trying to persuade, but just wonderin I always keep a rooted stock 2.2 backup just in case, but I've been using CM7 as my daily for couple weeks now and its great.
The swype keyboard thats why I dindt put it, I dindnt make a backup

ok well im running cm7 and a gingerbread launcher i got off the market. well since i updated to a newer rom it seems very laggy. im overclocked but it doesnt feel like its sticking. could it be the launcher, the kernal, or the system itself?

Did you reflash the launcher? When you update CM7 the stock CM7 launcher is enabled by default.

I use the first download in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933517
It removes ADW (freeing up space) and installs the stock GB launcher. You need to flash it every time but, it only takes a few seconds.

flash it every boot or every update?
EDIT: scratch that i flashed it. its a little better but it still seems laggy compared to CM 7.0.2. but i needed to upgrade. so could it be that the overclocking isnt sticking or what? and should i install pershoot for better performance?

You'd need to flash that every time you upgrade your ROM.
As far as the OC; make sure "set on boot" is checked or you'll lose OC when you reboot.
Personally, I like pershoot; I find it to be a bit snappier and better on the battery.

It's as easy to flash as anything else, just make sure you download the right one (.35 for any nightly after 78)

Custom status bar on rooted stock 2.3?

I don't want to flash a Rom because ill need to flash to cricket soon and I don't think that's possible with a different Rom(such as runnymede or eternity)...I'm really not creative enough for UOT myself so are there any precooked status bars that I can flash with rooted stock 2.3?
