I've read everything I can get my hands on...
All of my phone's software versions are identical to the one's in the Autoroot You tube video. I did a factory reset, and began the process. About 2/3 of the way through, mine stayed stuck on the red triangle while the one in the video rebooted, continued, and finished. I'm attaching the log for the experts to please tell me what I did wrong!?!?
Also, while my phone is running at the moment, it has much older versions of everything now... 2.1, build 1.17.651.1..., kernel 2.6.29... ???? It was ALL up to date before I started.
Could someone please provide a detailed step by step process of where to go from here?
Thank you all so much!!
Personally, no experience with auto root, but I personally suggest unrevoked. But it seems to have partially flashed something.
If you wish to try auto root again, I would suggest rebooting your phone, and the make sure no apps are running, and temporarily stop things on your computer [could cause interference] and then try it again...

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I'm so confused!!!!
Can I use unrevoked with all of the old software on my evo now?? I have been trying to use the software updates in settings to get it back where it was (2.2, 3.7, etc...) but it says my phone is up to date. So I guess I'm asking,
A) - will unrevoked work with:
2.1-update 1
baseband 1.36.00.04.02
kernel 2.6.29-ac94cf60
build 1.17.651.1
B) - if it will work, will I get all of my newer versions of everything back?
That is the engineering firmware you have on there, if you restart your computer and try again it should finish it up.

Ok, I restarted the computer and ran the autoroot batch again. It seemed to blaze through the first part of it like it was picking up where it left off. However, the log keeps repeating (8 times)-
"daemon still not runningerror: cannot connect to daemon"
The phone is stuck on the red triangle with the "!". Now what??
Again, thank you guys so much. You are earning your beer money!!

So I download this, install it, and try the process again? I've noticed there are two versions of htc sync floating around. One is 3.0 that is only 1 month old from I believe the European htc site and the other is 2.0 from htc.com. Does it matter which one I have?

Thanks I'll try that out.
This is not working. I run the .exe and then it reboots the phone to bootloader mode and the phone never enters the bootloader so eventually it errors out. I tried booting the phone into booatloader mode manually and then starting the .exe but that didn't work either. Oh well...just have to wait for a different method I suppose.

That's weird, it definitely worked for me.
I just had an idea, it could be getting stuck at the HTC screen because of the .zip files on the SDcard so I'm going to try the update one more time and if it does not work then I will remove the .zip's from the SDcard to see if removing them helps! I hope so -fingers crossed-
Edit: Nope, no difference. Ugh...wish I had never rooted in the first place.
Edit 2: I had another thought, why not try to run the .exe while the phone was showing the HTC logo, and surprise, it is now working! I really hope that it removes root, fixes the market, and gets that update!
Could you check to see if your version numbers match up to this thread?

It would be nice to have a way to get back to factory settings. I'm waiting to root my phone just in case it breaks something.

You can also try unrevoked3, that gets you su permissions then do toasts part 2 then use whiteslacks "how to start over method. Seems the long way around but you can usually avoid the problems simpleroot seems to cause some people.

ok guys good news...i tried the OTA simpleroot on the xp pc and everything went perfectly without any error, my phone is currently updating files in bootloader as we speak, but i have a question how do i user RA recovery instead of clockwork? does it matter or make a difference? or should i just leave clockwork and load a custom rom
personal preference really, i use Ra, just boot to recovery then flash away, either one is good, some say clockwork does not completely wipe ... I havent had any problems with either personally.
I had problems loading DC 3.2.X with clockwork... but ROM manager needs clockwork and is amazing
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ive heard if u connect to wifi during step 3, that will fix your probelm, i had an issue like that too, plus i had one where it said "unable to find device" in part 2
So I'm at work and go to look at my phone and notice its rebooting which it never does. I watch it and notice its loopbooting at the white Evo screen. Ive never as much as had a random reboot before. I try to boot into recovery and can get to hboot but as soon as I try to select recovery it loop boots at the same point. I tried pulling the battery and that didn't help either. I'm running cm6.1 rc1 with stock kernel and no over or under clocking. I haven't made any changes in a while. Not even any new apps.
Any ideas?
I just went through and read every thread with loop in the title and it seems like with everyone else they had this issue while rooting or flashing or making some sort of change. Nor just on an idle phone
You may need to RUU your phone and start over if you arent able to get into any type of recovery mode...

I was able to run RUU app and install the update from here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747319

I've been searching for hours now and I'm not finding much help
Ugh.. I'm giving up for the night. Been searching for hours and can't find anything that seems to work. And of course today is Thanksgiving and there's no chance of me even getting a new phone.
did you try a 3.29 ruu i'm surprised that sync let you flash a 3.26 if your phone updated to newer that might help also if you used unrevoked you need to flash thier s-on tool

The only RUU I was able to flash with the RUU app was the 3.26 one I posted. I downloaded like 10 others and RUU app doesn't see them for some reason.
Also, how can I send a file to the phone with fastboot? I've searched and searched and I'm not sure of the exact syntax to use.
I had S-OFF and was fully rooted untill I ran RUU app.
Any other suggestions? I'm really trying to avoid getting a new phone.

Just finished installing that RUU and no change. Still the same boot loop.
Downloading the following RUU now and going to try again.
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe
And for anyone looking for stock RUU's and having a hell of a time. Here's a good link I found with a bunch of them;

That one didn't work either.. Still just loop booting. Looks like this thing is just completely eff'd and I need a new one. Damn.

I did that as well.. Nothing was working on that thing. Got a new phone now and just finished rooting it and getting it all set up.
Hey guys. I have a problem and not sure how to go about this. My Evo was at 2.2 rooted for a long while and all of a sudden it started acting up. It would always freeze and had to be rebooted constantly. So I had a back that I went back to successfully but it is at 2.1 now (Baseband 2.15.00.09.01)
Now I'm not getting the OTA update to 2.2. I go into HTC software update and it says no available updates for my phone.
So how do I get to 2.2 or 2.3 rooted?
FYI after going into bootlaoder and choosing Recovery, I get Clockworkmod Recovery. Is this normal?
You need to flash the stock rooted ROM for the latest OTA update. I would suggest trying out some different Roms, though. That's the best part of rooting.
And ClockworkMod is the most popular recovery for the Evo, so yeah that's probably right.

It's pretty easy actually. Once you have root again (if you don't already), go to http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic and download either the newest nighly (30) or RC2 to your memory card.
Boot into Clockwork and go to backup and restore, and choose nandroid backup or backup (I'm not using clockwork, so I don't know the exact verbiage). Once the backup is complete, do a full system wipe by clicking on wipe data/factory reset.
Once that is done, choose install zip from sdcard, scroll down to cm_supersonic_full-30.zip and select it. It will install and then ask you to reboot. Go ahead and reboot.
Once your phone is up and running again, you'll want to get back into recovery so that you can flash GoogleApps, which you can find here: http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/.
You'll flash these just like you did CyanogenMod 7 a minute ago, although you will want to wipe your cache and dalvik cache (which is located under "advanced" in the Clockwork menu) first.
All you have to do then is boot back up, go through the walkthrough to set up your google account, and then you'll be running (close to) stock Gingerbread 2.3.
If you need any help, feel free to ask.

Many recommend wiping data/factory reset (which I know was suggested and you've done), but also cache and dalvik BEFORE flashing any new ROM. Also, with CM, is it not suggested that you use Format_All?

I also suggest running Unrevoked, if you're looking for a 'one click' type of root method. I've used it numerous times, and had no problems. These instructions, if followed to the T, will get you rooted up. (that is if you aren't s-off already, which it doesn't sound like you are)

I would probably run an RUU, to put you back to stock, before trying to run Unrevoked, if that's what you decide to go with. You can find an RUU or PC36IMG here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu
You run the RUU from your computer. You just need to make sure you have HTC Sync installed, on your computer.
And don't worry, teh roxx and I will get you fixed up!

I appreciate the help, I've been wanting to root mine for a while now, just never trusted myself to do it. I will check out the links you provided, and will come back if I have any questions.

His instructions are good; I'd have said the same thing, and we will get ya rooted successfully. Just to had to the htc sync note, after you install it, you need to uninstall it [just the program] because it causes problems with unrevoked; you only need the drivers it installs.

I was going to try this method before, but the first set of drivers I needed to update wouldnt work. Following the directions to the letter, connecting the phone and going to device manager, then updating drivers. I was told mine were already updated.

Did you click the search from files, then browse and select the driver folder you downloaded?

I think I missed one of the steps, I looked closer, and was able to get the bootloader drivers installed. Do I reboot the phone now, or stay at this menu?

You're welcome, glad you got the drivers set up and you got root! Nice. There are soo many different awesome ROMs man. If you like AOSP, you have CM7, SalvageMod1.1, Savaged Zen, Evervolv, etc. I like them all, when I'm in an AOSP mood. They are all fully functional, fast, and have good support. If you like sense, or senseless, I like Myn's RLS5, MikFroyo, Koni's ES, and definitely VaelPak. Honestly, it depends on what pleases your eye, and what type of features you're looking to have. You really can't go wrong, and it may take a little experimentation to find the perfect ROM / kernel combo. It's fun trying to find the perfect combo, going on flash binges, haha! Take care, and have fun flashing ROMs. Remember to always do a full wipe (data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, and flashing calk's formatall.zip) before flashing a rom. Always wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing anything else. Remember to keep a current and good working backup of your system, before you flash anything 'major', such as themes, mods, kernels etc. You'll be good to go.
