[Q] 2.3 Radios for the desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yeah i'm interested in going AOSP with like, Oxygen 2.0 RC7 or GingerVillan but i need to know, what are the compatible radios for these ROMS?
At the moment i have 32.49.00_5.11.5.27 So will this work alright with either of the before mentioned ROMS?
Thanks in Advance,
~Matty Matt

Yes, all the froyo once work on gingerbread. However there might be a different recommended radio for the rom than you current, but I wouldn't worry to much about that.

thanks pal! been looking forward to imitating a Nexus S

I have the same radio and it works fine on GingerVillain, no issues with it.

alright thanks barefootpilot I think I'll wait until all the main bugs are ironed out first before i flash.

Taking the plunge!

Think i am ready to take the plunge to root my desire and also install a custom ROM. Just have a few queries that need some clarification and suggestions.
1. My radio version is 5.09.05.30_2 do i need to update this when when installing a custom ROM
2. Suggestions on Sense custom ROMs that have fast kernels with low battery drain. I have read a lot about Cyanogen ROMs which seems quite popular but its a non Sense ROM and would appreciate one with Sense. Kinda Like it.
Thanks in anticipation of the goodies!!
1. See what radio the ROM developer suggests and use that
2. I'd go all out and use the RCMixHD ROM - easily the best Sense-based ROM available and it's based on the Desire HD ROM...but that's just my opinion (wait for the LeeDroid brigade to chime in!!)
I'm far from an expert but i just flashed the latest radio onto my phone and went for LeeDroid 2.2f, which i've been running for a week or two, seems pretty stable so far. I was planning on trying a few ROMs before i get too settled into one.
which radio would that be?
For latest radio, see my signature. But as said, it's best to use the one recommended in the ROM thread if in doubt
LeeDroid seems to be quite appealing at the moment. Any known bugs for 2.2f
Don't know, not a fan of LeeDroid - don't like the custom wallpapers and apps that are used. Prefer mine to look as stock as possible
Which ROMs look as stock as possible?
Teppic's is basically stock with root access and optional extras
I haven't found any bugs at all yet, my current radio is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 which definately works fine with LeeDroid 2.2f, well it does on my Desire at least !
Any links to where i could get that Teppic's and is it stable with improved speed and low battery drain? Sorry am asking too many questions
Go look for it in ROM development - it's not that hard to do
What's LeeDroid like on battery?

VillianRom and PinkyDesire are both excellent choices.
LeeDroid Brigade here...... I have tried every ROM possible and the latest LeeDroid offering ,2.2f, is by far the most stable bug free ROM I have ever used. The RCMixHD ROM is very good, if you can live without the camera for the time being.

I get around a day and a half, using generally everything, including Sat Nav.

Rom question

Just a quick question. I've been out of the loop for a while and I'm wondering what is the most stable/ best aosp rom/ kernel combination out there at the moment? Thanks for your help.

There are a few GB ROM's running around, but I don't know that I'd say the majority are.
It all depends on what you want, if you still want to have HTC Sense stuff then Lou's ROM's are great, if you want a Desire-Z based ROM then Myn's Warm 2.2 is pretty good, and then if you want an AOSP (mostly GB now) then you can't go wrong with the CM7 nightlies.
They are lightning fast now with Slayher's .37 kernel he released yesterday.
My suggestion would be to nandroid and flash away, if you don't like it, you can always restore it back to the original!

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I've had CM6 on my phone since the stable release and haven't been active on the forums since then. Appreciate the feedback.

Warn two point two isn't a Z rom, its an Evo/Inc hybrid. Just thought I'd clear that up lol
Sent from my Droid Incredible running Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS5.3.

There is a Z version.
Noob here (formerly a BB user).
Okay, so I have some basic questions re installing themes:
1) How do you install themes?
2) What are ROMs and how are they associated with themes?
3) What are the common issues with installing ROMs/themes?
Any suggestions/answers are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There are thread that explain all this. I think they are titled "read this first, complete guide to flashing custom roms/themes"
On the OP question-Incredibly re-engineered is well worth a look as well as Magnolia. Both Roms have tremendous dev support.
Thanks!

Noob in need of help...

Hi all, i have been searching for a while and cant seem to find my answer so hopefully someone can help. I have rescently rooted my HTC Desire and installed one of the roms off here (Psychosis 5.0) it has installed fine except i no longer have the android market on my phone, i am running 2.1 0.83. Can someone please tell me how to get it back?
Many thanks.
You can try to flash a stand alone new market or Gapps, but I think it's better to just flash a up to date rom.
Since Psychosis 5.0 is based of a old Leedroid rom I would suggest you install the newest Leedroid or find something else you like.
Ah ok pal, thanks for the help i will find a different rom
Any advice as to what rom to flash?
Depends on what you want, look around in development and this thread. See if anything there strikes your interest.
If you have no idea and what to stay as close to stock as possible but with the benefits of custom roms I would suggest to install Leedroid
If wanna have everything working and want to stay as close as to stock as said before than Leedroids ROM is the one for you.
If you like speed and no snick snack and no Sense, I want to suggest DeFrost 6.1a. See the rest Non-Sense ROM too.
If you like extra snick snack and the new Sense, try one of the DHD or Z ported ROM. I am currently using InsertCoin 1.8f.
If you are and advance user and like to experiment things, try one of the experimental Gingerbread (2.3) ROMs.
If you like to have something iPhone alike, try one of the MIUI.
Note:
For newbies, please stay away first from any Data2SD and Data2Whatever or any Gingerbread ROMs at the moment.
Stick with App2SD, learn more first!
I don't know how to get market back, but I also recommend Leedroid, AuraxTSense, or ReflexTSense. All good ROM's, in my opinion...

[Q] new roms

I have been off the scene for awhile so much changes so quick. I have rooted my phone with unrevoked last year and am on jiminy v cricket rom. My phone has been working good. I found out about hdmwin mirror and it did not work so that brought me here. I am currently still on android 2.2 and rooted and want to try some new roms like cyna 7 and nitelies. here are my questions
1. do i need to re root phone to newer version or is unrevoked still alright
2. what roms work for 2.2 and get hdmi mirror for hdmwin
3. same thing as question 2 for kernals.
4. any addtional info
I read quite a few threads and got confused..
thanks for you help.
Shouldn't need to re-root. Why are you holding off on running a 2.3 ROM?
I am not sure if the new roms matched up with android 2.2. might be missing some info on this I read but a little confused on the 2.2 to 2.3 and so forth on which roms work for each one.
You don't need to upgrade to official 2.3. I never did. The 2.3 ROMS are not gonan give you the great battery life that Froyo ROMS had, but they have a TON more to them now. No SBC Kernels for Sense, either.
You in a good state right now. Go to the link in my URL. It will explain everything about cm7 and you need to flash amon RA too which is in there

Kernels: Chopsuey 9.2.7 and Freedom .9 are the major ones, if you are sticking with Sense.
Kernels are the major part. I would suggest MikG, or if you are feeling adventurous, either MikRunny or Hybrid (in Jaredthegreat's thread FEARMEde). I suggest mounting data in recovery before flashing any kernel. Under "Mounts" option in recovery.
Maybe you need to update to AmonRa 2.3, still the best
AOSP-wise, either MIUI or Deck's, paired with Tiamat 4.1 kernel SBC.

question about kernel and radio

I am currently running the official MIUI ICS 2.11.16 (http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/two-roms-miui-dhd-ics-4-0-4-2-11-23-new.18060/), running Sense 3.6.
I was wondering what decent kernel can be used with this ROM? It currently uses MIUI v4 3.0 Kernel but I have no clue if it is any good.
Also I am wondering what the differences are between the radio versions. I understand what the radio is but i am just not sure of the differences between these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34752496&posted=1#post34752496

Ok, if the kernel you are using has no issues, then it is good enough. Changing kernel should be done for experimentation or for assesment. If you are not sure about it, then it is best to keep the one you are running. I don't personally know about miui kernels compatibility, but always make sure that the kernel you are about to flash is compatible with your rom.
Radios have to signal strengh, wifi and data connectivity and relates to your geographical location, thou it is subjective how a radios works. Not all radios for the same for two similar devices. Changing radios is quite a delicate process and any error can end up in a brick. So, again read before doing it and if you are happy with your signal and battery life, then stay as you are. :good:

thanks for the reply, i guess ill stick with the kernel the MIUI rom comes with, as for radios i am not happy with my battery life at all so I would like to flash a new one, but on the DHD official radio thread it just lists the versions, not the differences between them

Each radio came with a version of Android. Lastest radios should be good enough for any DHD, thou that is not a exact science. Try finding someone in your are that is happy with his radio, or try a couple a see what happens.
