wireless tether problem - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

I've been having problems with my wireless tether for root users app.
I have my g2 temp rooted by visionary and downloaded wireless tether 2_0_6 but when I activate wireless tether the download speed will only go to .4mbps and the upload speed will be worse. It says wired tethering seems to be running and I need to get rid of it but what does that mean? I have PDAnet installed also if that's got anything to do with it.

Did u uninstall pdanet? I read in the forum that having that installed breaks the wireless tether app.
Sent from my CM7 powered G2

I uninstalled it but it still did the same thing :/
Does wireless tethering come with cyanogen mod?

It's still broken in CM7. It's on the list of things to be done before RC

Really I don't think so. Currently running. Nightly #25 build in wireless tether works like a champ. But eats my batt really fast.

Wireless Tether App

I have recently installed SkyRaider 3.0 Vanilla on my phone, and I had read somewhere that the Wireless Tether application will still work, even though the stock 3G Hotspot does not.
I can start it up, and turn the tethering on, but I can't connect to it to anything..

Thank you for the quick reply. I thought I was the only one. I love skyraider
It's working great for me on uncommon sense. You'll probably get a better answer if you post in the skyraider thread.

What problem is there with the 3G Wireless Hotspot?
Og, I'm not using the same rom a you but I use hydrakernel v0.5.
This may help? Do a nandroid...
If your rom is based on cm6, then don't use my kernel, per the warning on hydrakernel.net
Try using the latest version from the developer's code site instead of the one from the marketplace.

Sprint WiFi Hotspot apk -Froyo

I am looking for a way to disable authentication? This is easily done on an Evo... See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838644
Calkulin has a hack for the Evo to disable it, anyone port this to the Epic?
Also maybe if someone could port the disable usb debugging icon even when enabled too?
If you are rooted and install one of the latest froyo roms like quantum 1.3 or 1.4
its built in and working.
dito33
OR you can cancel your sprint wifi hotpot ($30/month savings) and just use wireless tether, which is free. Just sayin...
Is there any app that lets you tether to your ps3? Non ad hoc

This is what I use for wifi, since my company laptop will not link to adhoc networks, don't know if it will work with ps3 I do not do ps give it a try if you like.

This is why I want the Sprint one and just disable the authntication as they have already done with the evo, downside is they have not got 4g to wifi working as 4g uses mac adress for authentication possibly.
I already have WiFi tether app that works with 3g and 4g but the mode is ad-hoc and certain things like xbox, ps3, psp need infrastructure mode. I would be happy if we could get as far as Evo and get and have working infrastructure 3g without authentication restriction.

Can someone confirm this?
I used Quantum 2.5 for a few days. The Sprint Hotspot app was working fine for me.

do you pay for it? can you confirm it was sprint hotspot and not wifi tether
yeah i've been on quantum since 1.0, on 2.7 now and i dont think it works. it activates, lets you connect and "looks" like you have internet but activating the hotspot deactivates 3g for some reason. gives you the registration error.
that being said, i downloaded caulkins mod and will look into seeing if i can replicate it on the epic. i'm guessing i'll hit a roadblock as i'm sure people have tried this already, but we'll see!
looks like Caulkin is who made that MOD for the evo, i asked him on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10382458#post10382458 if he could provide a how to as the same hack might work for us.
right now i'm just comparing a stock framework.jar with his mod. first delta i found is classes.dex/android/content/pm/registeredservicescache.smali but i dont know if that means anything yet, we'll see.
will this hack work on the shift also>>??

Probably not without tweaking for a different screen resolution.
Upgrade to the newest wifi tether, version 3. It works in infrastructure mode. It's still marked as experimental, but it did work for me.

Agreed, the newest wifi tether actually launches sprint AP with authentication disabled. I've read that its a little buggy, but I used it yesterday for about 10 min browsing the web with no issue.
Using the newest tether (v3) has actually reset my phone, IE erased the data/factory reset. Kinda annoying.
How? No one ever gives instructions.
Is there a way to get a free hotspot or wifi tether on an UNROOTED Epic?
Thanks,
Sam

For free? The short answer is no. You can download the ap apps like wireless tether from the market, but without root permissions, the apps will not work. Some reason your hesitant to root your phone?
Requires a rooted phone.
Backup your phone with CWM3 as this app is still experimental and can cause issues.
Download pre10 or pre12 version 3.
Correctly install with ADB or a file/app manager.
Shutoff 4g and open app.
Select your device profile as Epic 4G
Start app and verify it successfully started (no errors, binaries installed etc.)
Don't worry when you see Sprint Hotspot activated message as this app uses something from the Sprint app
Start 4G
Supports infrastructure mode

Wireless tether broken on nightlies

Hey everyone, i know nightly qquestions arent supposed to be asked, but i consider myself a pretty experienced user and still cant figure this out.
Whenever i install a relativly recent version of gbread on my phone it completely breaks tethering. Ive tried reinstalling the gb cm kernel and reinstalling wireless tether app...the last known working rom for me is build 45 of the pre- nightly gridlock builds
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Have you tried the native wireless tethering hotspot, works for me on CM7.

Last I heard, there conflicts if you install a 3rd party tether app since tethering is already bundled into the build. Uninstall any 3rd party tether apps, reboot and try the native tethering app, it should work.

When you flash the new nightly, are you mounting /system first? I've found that if I don't mount /system before flashing, wifi and wifi tether sometimes don't like to work. (Wifi tether looks like it's working, but when you connect to it, you get a limited connection and no internet connectivity)
Hey, just tried reflashing after mounting system and still no luck..what kernel should i be using?

CM7 doesnt work with Wireless Tether use the native Hotspot that comes with CM7 found in menu/setting/wireless&network/tethering&portable hotspot. OriginalGabrial already said this:

Same here. I ended up downloading Barnacle from the market and that works well for me.

[Q] wifi tether success???

I am running ec05 urban regeneration 1.2 and running wifi tether version 3.0-pre3 and it has been the most stable, but things like, if it is plugged into the charger and I unplug it the phone reboots, stopping the wireless tether causes the phone to reboot, and my phone hitting 100% on the battery causes the phone to reboot. It is Kind of a pain in the ass lol. I have seen some people swear by version 3 pre14 but when I start tether with that I can connect with my ps3 or laptop, but there is no data connection.
SO.... anyone having fully reliable wifi tether? on what rom? and what version of the wireless tether?
Try pre-13/14

You should check out the Hotspot hack. I don't think you will use WifiTether or Wired tether again but Ghostrid3r is right 3 pre 14 worked well for me as did 3.1 beta 2

WIFI tether always worked, but I always had an issue with the unit getting hot when tethering and charging and with after 40/60 minutes the phone resetting.
I have been running the HotSpot hack now under EG22, and it works very well, I haven't had the reason to run it for more than 30 minutes so far, but it has been stable.
wifi tether 3.1 beta 2 works great for me on bonsai 4.1.3

[Q] android-wired-tether not working ?? other options? fixes?

I just got my Inc 2. GB 2.3.3. S-OFF'd and rooted.
I loaded up android-wired-tether (its what i used on my eris) and it wont work. WinXP sits and attempts to acquire IP for quite a while, eventually gets an IP but then cannot connect to the internet.
Anyone else have success with this app? or is there another USB tether app out there that is good?
is there a fix?
PdaNet is a good wired app. Or, you could try WiFi tether, excellent wirelesstether app. You'll have to Google it, its not available in the market

^^ what he said.
Do you have HTC sync installed ? I wanna say you have to have that installed on your computer for wired tether because it has drivers you need. Not 100% sure but its worth a try if you don't have it installed.
some dude hacked/fixed the wired tether app
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/issues/detail?id=47#c1
so it works now. just a bummer the maintainers aren't maintaining it.
