So I recently rooted my T-Mobile G2 and flashed the Gingervillain ROM. I made the mistake of not backing up my Swype lib files and .apk prior to flashing the new ROM.
I am much too lazy to create a current Nandroid backup, flash to my back up, pull the files, and then reflash to my set up. I thought about pulling the apk and necessary files from my relative's T-Mobile G2 whose phone is still running stock ROM.
However, I don't want to do this without knowing that I won't mess up Swype for them. When I do adb pull, will their original files will be on their system (similar to the "Copy" command on Windows)? Or when I do this command, their files will just be transported to my desktop (similar to the "cut" command on Windows).
Any replies will be appreciated!

Rooted using Unrevoked. Have Root Explorer installed and Titanium. I know the system apps are in the folder: System/Apps When using Root Explorer I don't have the options. To uninstall the apps bit I can delete them. However, after deleting them the programs are still there. Same thing happens when I try to do it with Titanium. Is there something I'm overlooking?
System Apps do not get installed/uninstalled. Deleting them is all you need to to. However, since it appears you are still running the stock ROM you need to make sure you delete the corresponding odex file too.
I only had the stock ROM for about a day before I rooted and installed a different ROM (which was deodexed). BUT, I recall reading that both files need to be deleted.
I suggest that instead of deleting the files place them in a backup folder just in case you might need them later on. As mentioned before you must move the APK and its associated ODEX file if it has one. Sprint applications tend to be updated so uninstall the updates then move the Sprint applications using the aforementioned method.

so i have to move the sprint apk files and odex files (if applicable) before I can delete them? I already tried deleting them w/o backing them up or changing their location but they keep coming back!

Are you mounting the apps folder with "rw" privileges before deleting?
Yes, I am. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. I swear to god these ****ing apps come right back after I reboot the phone. I delete them with Titanium and/or Root Explorer and after a little while they pop up again. I have no idea what is going on. I rooted with Unrevoked 3.21...maybe something didn't go right?
I also can't get BusyBox to install which is a major pain in da ass because so many apps need it
I wanted to try to make a ROM that was customized just for me.
I just downloaded the most recent frost rom, unzipped it, modified the apps and framework.apk, resigned it using the signing utility available on XDA and then tried to flash it.
I did not make a folder, then tried to ZIP the folder then resigned. I took the contents of my ROM, zipped the contents into a folder, then put it through the resigning utility.
However, when I flash the ROM, it says that it can't find the update.script.
I haven't ever tried to do this, but I am guessing I am missing a step -- either that or I am in over my head.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hey, guys. I dropped my phone recently and got a new one from Asurion and I am trying to extract my game save files from Gun Bros because my back-up with Titanium restored me to level 12 and I was almost at level 40 before I got my new phone. I know.....I'm a f*cking nerd.
Anyway, here's where I'm at:
I downloaded unyaffs and the cygwin1.dll and was was able to successfully extract the data.img contents into the desired folder on my computer. Upon navigating through the data folder, I find two folders titled com.glu.android.gunbros_free and com.glu.android.skob2_free both of which contain a folder inside of it called "app_save" that has a number files.
I thought it would be as easy as finding the same folders on my phone and simply replacing the contents with the files I just pulled from my NAND. However, when I navigate to the data folder in my phone, I can't find these file names. I tried searching for them using control-F by typing the name of the file and searching the the entire SD card, but it turned up empty.
I'm sure I am missing a step here somewhere. Can any of you advanced users point me in the right direction? Sorry if my question is missing info, but honestly, I don't know wtf I'm doing. I'm trying to make something out of nothing here.
I REALLY don't want to start over in the game. lol Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I'm using these as guides:
http://www.htcblaze.com/how-to-extractingaccessing-nandroid-backup-img-files/
http://dus.org.pl/forum/t-219620/recovering-data-from-nandroid-backup
In the second link, the last step says:
- you can list content of this database using sqlite3 command line tool or presumably (haven't tried it myself and it may depend on what application data you are recovering) copy it back to your Android device running current ROM (rooted phone may be needed).
However, I can't get that command to work. I'm not sure if that helps any, but I thought I'd throw it out there to offer more info.
Oh, I thought of something I wanted to add in case it will be easier. The phone that created the NAND I am trying to pull the files from is still available to me with the game at the stage that I left it in. Maybe I should try replacing the game files on my phone with the ones from that phone?
In theory, it sounds easier than what I'm trying to do here, but does anyone know if that will work?
bumpity-bump.....
Anyone?

6. Backup and cleanup
During the process gfree created backups of the partitions that it changed on your sdcard in /sdcard/
The files are called /sdcard/part7backup-<time>.bin, part18backup-<time>.bin (if you installed hboot) and part21backup-<time>.bin. It is highly recommended that you copy these files to a save location on your PC and keep them!
You can delete the files in /data/local/tmp they are not needed anymore.
I have no idea how to do the above. I've done everything else before it. My SDcard is in my phone, how do I do the things that are mentioned above? Thanks :good: I'd like to complete this final step before installing a ROM.
Also, do I have to wipe or anything before my first ROM? I was thinking either QuadraSense or Mimicry. :good:

The bin files would simply be on the root of your SD card, you can simply put toggle USB storage to copy them off if you so wish.
Far as /data/local/tmp, I think that only applies if you plan on keeping the currently installed rom. In which case while booted up you would just go into adb shell, and cd /data/local/tmp/ , and ls the file output there and decide what you wish to rm.
PS: You can do a full nandroid backup once you've rebooted into recovery if you wish to keep your stock rom the way it is, and be able to restore it to that point.
Is it possible to have WIFI tethering on GB27 rooted without having to flash it in? I have the stock but rooted GB27 on my Sprint Epic 4G touch and would like to occasionally tether my tablet to my phone mobile data.
I did some research in the forum but haven't found one that did not require flashing it in and I have had trouble in the past with this way of installing it.

Hi. When you say you've had trouble in the past, do you mean with crawrj's hotspot mod, or is flashing anything in recovery the problem? I only ask because if you're not comfortable doing anything in recovery, I wouldn't want to suggest other root actions really, because I'd always preface by saying to make a backup... And if you're not comfortable making a backup, I would be concerned about your modifying system files to begin with. Not saying this for any reason other than caution, bud... making a backup and flashing tested mods are your safest approach.
If you must:
I need to be clear that you make any system file changes with a risk, minimized by making a backup first.
What the flashable mod does is replace two small, important files in your framework folder. (Make a backup first?)
Download the correct mod. It will be a zip file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879140
Don't extract the zip, but dig into this folder: system\framework\.
There are only two jar files in there. You need to copy them into the corresponding folder in the file system on your phone. So copy the services.jar and wimax.jar you just got from that zip and paste them into system\framework\ folder on your phone. You'd do this using a root browser such as ROM Toolbox or ES File Explorer.Paste those two jar files into the framework folder. Long press on each and verify/change the permissions to be 0677 (or RW-R--R--). Reboot.
Thanks for the option and advice. I used to flash my Nexus phone all the time with no troubles but ever since I came to the Epic 4G Touch I have had issues in flashing. A couple times I came close to a hard brick. I am used to using root explorer or ES File Explorer and could easily backup those two files. Since settling into GB27 I should probably look again at putting AGAT's recovery on my phone. I will look at the info in your link.
