Hi,
i just went back to a rooted stock 2.2 ROM from a Desire HD ROM
i had an 700MB ext2 Partition on my SD Card, which was apparently wiped by the clockword recovery. Now it seems like the new ROM didnt recognize the partition (its apps2sd+).
Do i have to reinstall the rom completely now, or is it possible to just reformat the partition and use it?
Regards. Max
With a stock rom, it can't recognise it because you can't use A2SD at all unless you install the init.d script thing to allow it. Just format the card and your good to go.

Hi,
I'm about to update with a new custom ROM since the one I have didn't have A2SD+ and there's just not enough space (came with MoDaCo custom ROM without additions when I got it). But I can't find any guides on how to format my SD correctly with my MacBook, do you guys know any? And do I need to download Android SDK?
Also, how big is the difference between A2SD and A2SD+? I only have the 4GB SD that came in the box.
Thanks.
Can I use ROM Manager to partition my SD card?
EDIT: Sorry mods, should've posted this in General, I guess. Please move.
You can partition in recovery. I have a Mac too and that's the only way I did it.
The main difference between A2SD and the + variety is that Dalvik cache is also moved to the SD card when using A2SD+.
Thanks! But everything on my SD card will be erased, right? Will I still be able to update the ROM after? Or should I update first?
Sorry, first time doing this.
Backup all the contents of your card to your Mac first. Flash the ROM, then before booting up for the first time, partition your SD card. Boot up your phone and copy back the contents of your card to the FAT 32 partition. I used to set up my card like this: swap-0mb, ext2-512mb, fat32-remainder. Then convert ext2 to ext3.
Also remember to do a full wipe before flashing the ROM.

Okay, I will try that! Thanks!
I'm looking to install a Desire HD rom on my Desire and it requires an SD-EXT partition.I tried partitioning through Rom Manager but, even tho i have it ,it says that i don't have clockwork mod recovery installed. What should i do? is it safe to overwrite the clockworkmod recovery installation through ROM manager? And is it possible to partition the sd card directly via recovery?
Clockwork Mod doesn't have partitioning in it, you'd need to use AmonRA to partition in recovery - it's the reason why I went to AmonRA as I have a 1GB partition for the RCmixHD ROM (which is awesome btw)
Thanks for the answer.
How do i flash amonRA over clockworkmod? do i use unrevoked again?
Using ROM Manager with clockworkmod I was able to partition my sd card. I also flashed desire hd rom on my desire. The partitioning process using rom manager is a bit wierd.. my 8gb class 10 sd card partitioned without hiccups, the 2 gb class 4 card did get through
Yeah but my problem is that ROm Manager doesn't let me partition my sd card because it says that i don't have clockworkmod installed even tho i have it...

Did you root your phone with unrevoked? If so then it must work via ROM manager otherwise it wont.
The directions to work on ROM Manager are this ones:
Keep in mind that first inside ROM Manager you need to select the option Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, and after that go to the SD partition option otherwise it wont work. And also remember you need to have the PREMIUM version otherwise it might not work
Now if you want to have more than a 512 mb you can use gparted. It is a livecd which means that can work on linux, mac or windows just reboot with the cd inside and is quite straightforward to use. Hope this helps.
i had this problem and here's what i did at the top of Rom Manager, it says Flash clockworkmod recovery. select it and select HTC Desire. then go to partition SD Card and select 512MB for Desire HD Roms. and a swap file of 32mb and it would simply boot into recovery and do the job. hope this helps
Hi there,
I have only one question about the sd partition used by system in a lot of cooked rom. If the sd card is broken, as happened to me recently, what happens to the operating system?
Thanks,
SIlvio
it wont boot up, and it will not unless you do a wipe and fresh install with new SD

Or find a ROM that does not require one, meaning no a2sd no data2xxx

Depends. If the ROM requires the EXT partition to run, then it'll FC the moment you've booted. Otherwise, some of your apps will just go missing.
ALso try out dexter's suggestions. Better to go without the EXT partition.
I would still go with ROM which has a2sd or Data2sd and ensure that i have regular backups on PC or on cloud.
Ive installed this rom twice and on the 1st or 2nd (im not sure ) i get a black screen. Does anybody know how to fix it ?

Please mention the steps u followed while installing the ROM in details?
Do u have a 512+ MB ext4 partition on ur SD card? If you have, then check whether properly partitioned ur SD card thru 4EXT recovery or something.
Ermm I was on another 3.5 sense rom so i decided to flash a different one but my ext partition was too small. i then used partition magic to format and then create a 1gb ext4 partition i then wiped everything and flashed the rom and all i got was a black screen. I wiped the sd card again and formatted it again and put the old rom back on and it didnt boot it just force closed everything so I formatted the card AGAIN and then tried the old rom and it worked. I dont know what im doing wrong ?
Partition your SD card for 1GB ext4 using GPartedLive or 4Ext recovery. You can even check the alignment and health of Fat32 and ext partitions through 4Ext.
Do a clean wipe before you install this.
Stock hboot or CM7/r2?
I saw a thread that someone said you can infact flash Data2SD on a stock rom. I tried doing it by reinstalling 2.3.5, installing custom recovery and then flashing Data2SD with app2SD remover, but it didn't work. Can someone please help me out with getting Data2SD working on a stock rom? I'd rather not use a custom rom if I can help it.
Hi, you can force apps to install to SD without rooting phone. You need adb shell. Run cmd as admin and run adb shell. Type pm setInstallLocation 2 and press enter. Everything you install will be moved to SD
This works, but not quite what I was looking for. I typically use App2SD for that. What I want to do is partition my SD card and use it as my internal memory.

The stock rom won't support an Ext4 partition if that's what you are using.
The kernel will support an Ext2 partition though.
Hope that helped.
So if I manually partition it using ext2, it will work? Would I have to reinstall the stock rom over again and then apply data2sd for it to work?
I tried making a ext2 partition, wiping the phone clean and then applying jikantaru's Data2SD w/ App2SD Remover but it did not change the internal memory. How can I make a stock rom have more internal memory by using Data2SD if possible?
anyone has something to add?...
