I have s-ffed my phone today, all went well. I then flashed the Oxygen HBOOT, and again everything was fine.
I then used recovery to flash Redux 1.0.0 RC4, which all went fine. I can access android and it's nice, quick and looks good.
However, I have two problems:
1. My microSD card won't mount, however it will under clockwork and i can put files on it from my MAC.
2. I cannot download apps from the Market. Is this a consequence of not being able to mount the microSD card?
I have reformatted the microSD in Clockwork, just in case.
This is frustrating cos i can't put my pics and music back on the card, or add in any other apps.
I would post in the development section, but i can't cos i haven't reached the right number of posts.
Any body got any ideas?
Thanks,
Jon.
Changelog for Redux RC4
Code:
Redux v1.0.0-RC4
Now fits in a 90MB /system partition (Oxygen HBOOT table can be used, however I will not offer support for this);
Market downloads now go to '/sdcard/Android';
As for your mounting problem, the format for the SD needs to be FAT32 (but you already knew that). I guess you can try to manually mount it in Settings > Storage see if that works. If not then I guess you can flash it again and see if that does anything.
Thanks for the reply.
Should've read the chaneog again
The sd card is still not being detected, and the mount option under storage is greyed out. I have formatted several times, and yes I did know that it should be FAT32, and reflashed three times.
I know the card and phone are ok, because i can mount it in recovery and transfer to it.
I have my FAT32 as the first partition and a 1Gb ext3 as the second.
Any more ideas?
Ok, sorted it now. Went back and did a full phone wipe again and recreated the ext3 partition.
If anything I may have forgotten to wipe the dalvik-cache first time around, but i'm not sure.
Anyways, all good now
Edit: Also had to manually create directory for market downloads
I would of said just wipe data and caches but you beat me to it

YO!!
First off I want to say this site is dope and tons of help to match.
This has most likely been asked before, but..uh I dont see/get it.
I have been trying to create partition ext3-ext4 on my sd with absolutly no luck.
I've been readin this for days now and never seem to find a definitive answer.
Everyone says that while in recovery you have option to partion ext3-ext4, but I guess my phone is retarded for some reason. While in recovery(any version and its clockwork btw) if i go to partition sd, once in that menu it brings up 5 different sizes. I check the last one and then the second step is to pick the swap. After I check what I want for the swap it starts the partition. Nowhere in the recovery menus(anywhere) do i see any options for ext2-4(ext2, ext3, etc etc).
So my question is: If it's not there where do I find it or is there any other option and is it really worth it?
I know how to gpart (or whatever you call it) but not sure how to allocate the sizes. 32GB sd class4
I've finally figured out adb and flashed several times. Call me blind, call me crazy, call me stupid...just don't call me coffee.
any help would be great.
T-Mo G2 is the device.
ps. I guess I'll get this out of the way so i don't have to keep posting dumb questions. I notice when flashing roms and it goes to mount the sd-ext(might have that spelled wrong sorry) I always get an error saying unable to load dev/block/mmcblk1 not formating. Nothing happens and the roms still flash just fine(usually). I saw this question before but everything I read that was supposed to be a"fix" didn't work. I am assuming I'm getting this because my sd isn't properly partitioned. any help on this would swell as well
oh yeah and it's ENG S-Off and all that other jazz. Used the gfree/rage method
cheers
Theres an option in ROM Manager to partition your sdcard for you but I have never had any luck getting it to work.
Heres A LINK that will walk you thru partitioning your sdcard thru ADB, it works, I used it to partition my sdcard, Just remember the sdcard for the HTC VISION is at dev/block/mmcblk1, the instructions will tell you to partition dev/block/mmcblk0, but this is for a diffrent phone. You want to partition dev/block/mmcblk1.
WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO PARTITION dev/block/mmcblk0
thanks for the reply. I learned that last night, lol thats the one I learned from last night. Problem is I need some input on how much to allocate for each partition. 32GB card.
cheers
Are you trying to partition your sdcard for use with apps2ext? If so since you have such a high capacitiy sdcard I would partition it to 1024mb ext2, 32mb linux swap and the rest FAT32.
Just a side note, remember to remove the existing partiton (which is the stock fat32) before starting the partitioning process,
■Command: rm 1 (deletes partition number 1)
so how to I get the ext4 partition? same as i did the first 3? the reason I ask is because I still dont have sd-ext after i partition with recovery. I want to move dalvic cache so that my widgets will work from sd card
If it helps im using GV1.5 rom with the proper recovery 3.0.0.5 ( which as I just noticed is now the new recovery rom manager wants you to flash...got tired of having to adb 3.0.0.5 everytime I wanted to test CM7 or GV1.5)
thanks
i just tried running the following in adb after card was wiped:
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 31712 that worked
mkpartfs primary ext2 31712 32736 and then got error saying:
The location 32736 is outside of the device /dev/block/mmcblk1
so i think the problem is my card is actually 29.9GB and since my math is crap I cant figure what esactly to put...
Just move your ext partiton a little lower, the same thing happened to me when I tried to partition at first, had to play with the numbers a little. You don't have to get the total card capacity filled with a card that big what's a few mb's.
Sent from my HTC Vision
maybe I should of asked this first.
My reasoning for doing this is I read somewhere that if you can upgrade to ext4 you would be able to run widgets off sd card because the phone thinks it's stll on the actual internal storage,
am I wrong?
There's only one rom that supports apps2ext , which is what your looking to do and that is Enoms rom, but there is also Darktremor's apps2sd mod in the dev section which will enable this on all roms, in either case you need a card partitioned to at least FAT/EXT2.
Sent from my HTC Vision
got it. after darktremors script while in shell i ran ap2sd cachesd and wa la.
thanks again
SD Card Problems With Clockwork Recovery
Hi there XDA, basically everytime I have an SD-EXT partition on my phone (i always, always make them using Linux manually) if I format my SD-Card (which should only format the Fat32 partition, I run into a big issue. My SD-Card will un-mount, possibly format i don't know, then it won't remount. If I connect my phone to windows the SD-Card has all its partitions removed. Very strange?
Anyway I decided to switch to Oxygen 2.0.1 this morning, as it's a much more stable rom, and anyway I performed what I said above on Froyo 2.1 (DeFrost) and the SD-Card wouldn't mount, when I noticed that the SD-Card didn't have any partitions I formatted it using Windows. I then placed the update.zip file of Oxygen onto the root of my SD-Card.
I proceeded to Clockwork Recovery and selected the option 'Select .Zip from SD Card' and I was shocked to see something saying No Files Found. We I have tried everything to sort this out, and absolutely nothing seems to be working? I have used a Ubuntu Live CD to try and completely wipe and re-format my SD-Card which completed sucessfully, but no joy, i've tried all the options on Clockwork Recovery, nothing works, I used a 2GB SD-Card to install Oxygen and this worked fine, once the phone was booted everything would work including the 8GB Card if I switched them. I know I should just put up with this, but I need to fix this.
Does anyone know how I can get my card to work again thanks.
Ok, I've searched everywhere and I cant find an answer so I've come here for help.
I've got a Telstra Branded HTC desire, been rooted and is running Leeroid 2.3 for the last month and its been great. Just bought a new 32gb SDHC to replace my old 8gb. Put it in my phone and detected it without a problem, was able to run "ClockWorkMod" to install a partition for A2SD "512mb ext, 0mb swap". Booted recovery, backed up, wiped the factory/data, Wiped Partition Cache and Wiped Dalvik Cache.
Now here's the problem
After all that is done I reboot from recovery mode, The phone hangs at the First Telstra Logo "The White HTC screen for original Rom". Take the 32gb SDHC out and put the old 8gb and it boots normally, take the 8gb out and have no memory and it boots normally.
Anyone know what the problem is? I've been re-installing the Rom on both the 8gb and 32gb, Re-Formatted the 32gb, copied all the files from the 8gb to 32gb and ran a full nandroid backup and still have the same problem........
While Restoring a copy of the backup from the 8gb on the 32gb, I got two things that are missing according to the check.
".android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure."
"sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of sd-ext/."
Spent the last 5 hours fiddling around with the phone but getting really frustrated, any help or a solution would be great
Thanks
It is definitely your SD Card.
However, a nandroid restore should work.
And from some reason you miss some files from your backup. The EXT.img is vital to make the ROM Run.
It does not even boot if you flash the ROM again after a full wipe?

When you mean full wipe, thats re-installing the rom from the 32gb SDHC or do I have to format something in Recovery Mode?
I donno why it cant find the EXT.img when I do the backup, if all fails I might as well throw out the SD card since its purpose was just for the phone......=_=
Yeah, a copied backup from the 8gb on the 32gb does the same thing, just hangs on the white splash logo thingy
Why not just wipe everything and start from scratch? Bit of a pain but if it works, it works.

I am willing to do that, the thing is whenever I put the 32gb card in my phone, it just hangs on the first set of logo's.
I've copied the Leeroid to the root of the 32gb, wiped the Factory/Data, Partition Cache and so on.
Go into install from zip and select Leeroid 3.2d.zip and run that. It finishes installing and asks me to reboot. I reboot manually and it loads the first set of logos and hangs.......
I've put the memstick in the phone and it worked before I partitioned it for A2SD. After that, its just been chaos, Im using the 8gb stick again so I can make calls an all but 32gb would be great to use =_=
If there's anyway to get this thing up and running on the 32gb. Doesnt matter if I have to start from scratch, as long if it works. That would be great ^_^
SD CARD = your 32 GB card
1. Partiton your SD CARD for A2SD+ (512MB Ext3 minimum)
2. Put SD CARD in the phone, copy Leedroid_a2sd.zip (or whatever it is) to the card.
3. In recovery wipe everything (data(factory reset)/cahce/dalvik cache) - dalvik is found under the advanced menu.
4. Install Leedroid 2.3
5. First boot takes 5-15 mins, so just wait.

I've got the 32gb SD Card working again, turns out that the partition I created on ClockWorkMod was corrupted. Rejoined the Partition, Wiped everything and installed Leeroid 2.3 and it works fine and the phone picks up the memory.
New Problem
I cannot get ClockWorkMod to create the partition since it automatically reboots the phone every time I attempt it and I get an black screen with an android/! picture.
Im using Gparted to create the A2SD partition but each time I create one I get an error
Unable to detect file system! Possible reasons are:
- The File System is Damaged
- The File System is Unknown to Gparted
- There is no file system available
- The device entry /dev/sdc2 is missing
I'm assuming that the SDHC I bought, for some reason doesn't allow me to create a partition? If that is the case, is there any work around to install apps to the SDHC. The Desire is such an awesome phone but it lacks the internal memory
nagypapi, I know I'm asking too many questions but your help means a lot
What card is it? If it was a cheap one, it can cause problems.
And partition it from the phone using GParted.
Boot into recovery, mount USB storage. And the run Gparted.
Remove both partitions, and create new ones from scratch.
If GParted still gives an error, try to format it on the PC.

I bought the SDHC from eBay, doesn't have a brand but it works apart from the whole partition thingy.
I got the error when I format the SDHC on the computer with card reader, I'll have a go with the USB Storage on the phone recovery mode. Donno if it will make a difference but I'll give it a shot anyways, I cant do it now since I have work tomorrow but I'll attempt it while I'm working and get back to you
Sounds like a defective card, send it back, if possible. Never use "unbranded" cards.
hello,
first of all i would like to point out that i have searched for this topic and have tried a few solutions, but it didnt work..
here it goes..
so im switching to a new sd, and just tried to swap the cards but when i do that im either stuck in bootloop,
or if i reflash i have nothing installed on the phone (and i dont mean apps, bcs there isnt a lot of them and i dont mind reinstalling),
for example when i press settings it says it is not installed lol..
there is also nothing on the homescreens, and when the screen locks i cannot unlock it bcs there are no buttons..
Its a 16GB class 6 card with a fat 32, and ext3 (1024mb), and a ext4 (768mb), as is requred by some roms (feel free to correct me if im wrong)
The formatting was done by minitool, as i cannot go into disk drive mode to do it with gparted (with the new card inserted almost nothing works)
the old one is a 4gig with a etx3(1024mb) and works normally when i put it back, although sometimes it needs reflashing..
i have tried mirroring the old cards folder to the new one, via sd card reader, but it doesnt solve the problem...it stays the same..
any and all help is appreciated
You should do a nandroid backup of your rom, copy entire FAT32 over to the new card and then do a nandroid restore.

It was used by scripts which are not developed for about a year and thus obsolete. No mainstream script requires that.
Thx (hvala
will try it later on today....do i need any ext partitions?
is ext3 enough?

It is enough, but the question remains whether it will work if you used that same dual ext partitions setup on your old 4GB card. I'm not sure, but maybe someone could clarify that. Ext partition is needed, otherwise you'll end in a bootloop - especially if some vital parts of the rom were symlinked there.
I presume you have cwm recovery installed.
If so format your card with SDformatter V 3.1. TO FAT 32 with size adjustment on.
This will format all your card to fat32,
Put the card back in phone and partition the card from within cwm recovery,
Select size of ext partition (1024kb is usually big enough) select 0 for swap.
Ext partitions are used to save on internal memory by moving apps ( (and sometimes data and dalvik cache aswell) to the ext partition and using it as if it was internal memory.
Hope this helps...
i have used only ext3 on my old card...so i guess the same would work on the new one....
so if i got this right, i can restore the old rom via nandroid...and i guess flashing something else in the future should also work...
CWM Recovery is at version 5.0.2.6 at the moment this partitions sdext with ext3 which works fine on nearly all roms. There is a 4Ext Recovery available which can convert ext3 to ext4 if required, just do a search for it if you need it, but you should be fine with ext3.
i have AmonRA
edit: am i able to to the same with it?
i remember it has the format option in the menu...
also 1024kb?
i have 1024mb lol
Yea I presume so, I use cwm!. Just follow the instructions for your rom..and create the partition if required
The restore thingy didnt help, ima still stuck at boot logo, or if i try another restore, i manage to boot, but again nothing is installed (settings and stuff)
will try the reformat and see how it goes...
why cant i just flash a brand new rom to this empty card?
As the title suggests my SD card (Sandisk class 6 16GB) has been acting up as of late. Apps frequently crash en masse (Using Sandvold's ICS rom with A2SDX). When I put a new rom onto the root of the SD card and delete 0.16.1 (since it's broken), the new rom remains when flicking through windows on my desktop but when I enter recovery, the new rom (and any new folders I make- Which as soon as I make on the desktop and click to go into them, they're full of gibberish files and folders which when clicked spark up "Can't be opened" errors) disappear and 0.16.1 has reappeared (As if I hadn't touched the SD card at all). I try and counter the mass app crashing by restoring a previous backup but when it reaches "Restoring SD-ext" it brings up "Error while formatting /SD-ext" (But strangely rom installations flash to SD-Ext just fine without an error) (I'm using 4EXT recovery). Strangely the backup acts fine even with this error (but around every 3 days after a restore or update of apps, they crash again). If I try and format the Fat32 partition on Windows 7, regardless of a quick format or slow one, it always comes back with "unable to format" (This error occurs with both third party programs and window's Disk manager/explorer).
Is this a sign my SD card is dead/dying or is it just a fluke and can be fixed?
Any help is appreciated.
Try partitioning and formatting with 4ext. It is supposed to be stable. But all roads finally lead to gparted which is the standard linux tool. There is a guide in my signature.
like handy says use 4ext recovery. Make ur sdcard all fat32. in recovery go to
tools/partition sdcard/ remove all partitions and start from scratch/
skip
skip
skip
this will make sdcard fat 32
then in tools format sdcard (twice)
this will definitly wipe it clean. then partition ur sdcard to whatever ROM requires. this should sort out sdcard. try installing ur rom without restoring any backup coz ur backup could also be the problem.
PS: try another rom, not ICS :sly:
Sent from my HTC Desire
Tried formatting using 4EXT. Strangely it tells me the format was a success but files etc are still on the card. Tried Gparted and it seems to remove the Ext 4 partition and format the entire card but when it reloads the drives, the partition is back and so are my files. It seems there's no means to actually format it.
Just buy a new card, it is cheap
