Successfully rooted HTC Desire, but had a few problems. - Desire General

I successfully rooted my HTC Desire with Unrevoked, but I had a few problems which I had to google my way out of and I want to put my solutions up here so they be found by others.
Unrevoked did not recognise the HBOOT driver linked at the Unrevoked site, nor the ADC ones. The error message was just "waiting for device". It did recognise the HTC Sync driver.
Unrevoked then would not install while I still had HTC Sync installed, so I had to uninstall it.
Unrevoked could not then go ahead because of lack of internal space - internal error: installing package failed. I had to uninstall a few apps and then it installed fine.
I got a "would not reboot bootloader" error, so reinstalled hboot drivers at the hboot screen. "waiting for bootloader"
ROM Manager then did not work and I installed Cyanogenmod manually.

Not sure about most of those, as they haven't happened to me yet, but I would always advise to flash roms through recovery rather than rom manager. It gives you a lot more control, and I've had more than one experience of rom manager wiping things that I hadn't expected.
Also, most guides will confirm that htc sync needs to be installed for the drivers only, then installed, or else it interferes with the rooting process.

This is normal, most manufacturers run their own drivers.

This is normal, pretty much standard in any Desire rooting guide.

It has to install somewhere Much like you wouldn't have been able to install any new largish apps I assume

Not so sure on this one sorry.

Count yourself lucky, ROM manager is not the best way to install a ROM. Always recommended to use recovery (it's dead simply anyway).
Anyway, welcome to the club and enjoy your new phone Make sure you do a backup via recovery (or ROM Manager actually does work well for this + lets you name your backups) before any new install, and NEVER use ROM Manager to flash a ROM.

[Q] (Solved) Chainfire3D driver not installing, thus, no Tegra2 games for me

hi to all
today was trying to run Chainfire3D on my Desire with GB RCMix S v1.6.2 Rom and everything seems to be ok when installing the driver however when the phone reboots its all the same when you go to Chainfire3D application again it seems like the driver was never installed as i cant see any other options untill the driver is installed, thus, cant install plugins to be able to run Tegra2 games.
did anyone with Desire have any success on installing and running Chainfire3D with any Tegra2 games?
thank you
EDIT: tried on my friends desire with 2.2 custom Rom and its the same, so i assume that the application doesn't support our desires, which is a shame as it runs smoothly on similar devices. will contact developer see what he sais
worked for me, are you s-off?
you also need the plugins http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4P9LEW7P just extract then press install plugin on chainfire and go into open gl setttings and use plugins

thank you for reply and yes all desires need to be s-off in order to be able to install this driver as i just been contacted and i just realised how blind i was as its even written in market that HTC devices need to be s-off.
thanks and will try again
Thanks for reminding me to install this app. Nightmode working without plugins.
Swyped...
just quick update on this post. yes did s-off yesterday and yes it is working. tried samuraj vengance II and it works great.
@Meaple sorry but didnt see night mode in the one from the market as i guess it only was in the older version of this application.

The application ROM Manager (process com.koushikdutta.rommanager) has stopped unexpec

Hi,
I'd like to start off by saying that I've flashed my Desire numerous times and it works fine, but I recently flashed my brother in law's and it's been acting up.
I followed one of the noob guides (root, s-off with alpharev) and put bravo_alphaspl-cm7r2.img on the phone.
I then flashed CM 7.1 (and also a bunch of other version). The flashing works fine. I reboot and when I go to rom manager and click on download roms it gives me the error message: The application ROM Manager (process com.koushikdutta.rommanager) has stopped unexpectedly.
Also if I flash google apps from recovery it flashes fine, but it crashes in CM.
What's I've tried:
-reflashing
-davlik
-fixing permissions
-redownloading all the files and reflashing (including md5 check)
I can't remove rom manager and reinstall it since it won't let me remove it.
Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I searched online and there is no concrete answer. Everybody seems to be guessing a solution, but so far no success for me.
Yes this is also the issue with my Desire and the solution is to reinstal Rom manager.
This worked for me.
Cheers
Nobody needs Rom Manager. All operations can be done with other and better software (recovery, GParted). Furthermore, it causes more problems than it solves.
So just uninstall it and never use it again.
but how do you uninstall it? there is no way to remove it from applications.
also google apps crashes when installed.
nevermind...now no error message anymore. No clue why.

[Q]HTC One X Drivers on W8

Hello guys!
After updating my HOX to JB, I decided to root it,but I got stuck at the first bloody step : installing HTC Drivers on Windows 8.I tried to install different versions , HTC Sync, HTC Sync Manager. In every case, the drivers failed to install. Also, I tried to install them manually, didn't work either.
The first attachment is a screenshot of Device Manager, after pluging my phone in :
One more thing, after plugin my HOX in, I don't get this anymore(second attachment)
. There is only a notification with ''USB connected'', and another one with : ''USB debugging connected''. So, I cannot transfer files from PC to HOX either. I believe this is because of the JB update, am I right?
I'm looking forward for any solution to my problem!
With jelly bean, the HOX will be displayed as multimedia device.
Try to install the newest Version auf HTC Sync Manager.
Uninstall old Versions before.

Like I said, I already did that. I installed different versions, including the newest one.
I use Windows 8 too.
I installed Sync Manager and then uninstalled it but the drivers remain installed.
Had no Problems until now.
When you connect the phone, does it ask you to install HTC Sync Manager ?

Yes, it does . Can I install the ''MTP'' driver manually?I tried but it says it couldn't find any driver for the specified device.

few questions before I root the KFHD8932GB

Hello, I've just bought my gf the 8.9 32gb version and she's not keen on the overlay UI and the lack of stuff on amazons market so she's asked me to root it.
1) If I root it, can I get it back to default state without showing that its previously been rooted? (any insuring later)
2) If you install the Play store, what device does the store think you have in order to install apps/games etc?
3) its just updated itself, am I right in thinking it cannot be rooted from this latest software? is downgrading easy?
4) Will we lose the things that are already on it? (Full wipe)
Thanks

There's been no change to update methods, the bin4ry method, option 2 has always worked. If you look @ lizzard30's SteriROM 1.2 thread, you'll end up by-passing the whole rooting process, end up rooted, w/android market & more installed. Just make sure you adb drivers are properly installed: Windows 8 will definitely block installation of unsigned drivers, and Windows 7 a bit too--google search disabling driver signature enforcement for the OS your installing computer uses if it's Windows.
As part of the install process, you'll deregister from amazon. All your programs you've installed will be wiped, so if it ain't part of the of the install package you'd have to reinstall. You can select to wipe your SDCARD, but that isn't necessary. Music and documents should still be there.
If you're going Gi Joe this and root, install busybox, then android market, that's kool. You'll need bin4rys root method to root, get busybox installer from 1mobile market website, enable installation of unknown programs. You want the installer for after rooting--install it, open it, install busybox. Then you'll need kindle fire first aid. Don't use KFFA to root or install busybox. Install busybox, it's required to use KFFA. Use KFFA to install market first, then market apps if you'd like.
Good luck! Oh, if you don't deregister and use SteriROM and go medieval instead, visit application manager and wipe data for kindle reader, amazon vod, and silk. Maybe a few other amazon apps ... otherwise not all your stuff will show up.
I've completed every step and everything went perfect but now i've finished and rebooted im not stuck on the first KindleFire orange logo and it goes no further

so, you never get past "Fix the red screen"? and are unable to install TWRP. were there any errors when you installed the ADB drivers? error message do not mean everything is working good
It'd be nice if someone else had input on the TWRP install ... which I haven't done yet.
you might want to post on the steriROM thread (check for sim circumstances)
---
I looked at Hashcode's thread about twrp installation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128175
notice step 4.5--your Kindle fire would have 8.3.1 on it, you will likely need to download the file and install in fastboot like Hashcode suggests

I used Busybox on Rails which I think flashes rather than "installs" Busybox. Check the Play Store

Your bootloader is unlocked, and you have root? This is required for Busybox.
Otherwise, try the installers by Stericson or JRummy (both on Play Store).
I've never had an issue on this device. But on past HTC devices, when I've had problems with one, I just tried the other, and it worked.
Thanks i just flashed it as zip and fixed the signature verification in the recovery and works now but i wanted busybox to install v4a but apparently it didn't fix it as v4a says install driver and i choose high quality then it said installed successfully reboot your device and something about lpa then i reboot the device and open the app and it asks to install the drivers again as if i did nothing
