[Daily] [ZIP] Unofficial CM7 Nightlies for HD2 - HD2 Android NAND Development

This thread is for CM7 Nightly for HD2. These are unofficial nightlies. There will not be official nightlies ( Read upcoming CyanogenMod blog post)
I will be maintaining CM stuff for HD2 all unofficially. They are compiled from source and not ported/kanged from other devices (like bravo)
CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>

* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
Please do NOT post bug reports on any issue tracker for these builds.
All source code is available at the CyanogenMod Github! If you'd like to to contribute to CyanogenMod, checkout Gerrit instance.
These builds REQUIRE ClockworkMod Recovery 3.x. If you use ClockworkMod Recovery 2.x to flash, it will not boot.
Additionally, ClockworkMod Recovery 3.x CAN NOT BE USED to flash CM6. You will have to downgrade ClockworkMod Recovery to 2.x if you want to switch back to CM6.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 7 to your HD2 (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device and install MAGLDR
2. Flash ClockworkMod Recovery 3.x
3. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. WIPE
4. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon

It will once nightlies start compiling

Perfect ! Flashing now .

Downloading and flashing now. I hope this doesn't have performance issues like all the ports. Every CM7 port never seemed to run as well as stock AOSP Gingerbread for me.
Edit:- Got a link for the gapps install?
Edit2:- Still has a lower framerate than AOSP as far as the UI is concerned. Must be a thing with CM7 builds in general... *sigh*

There's a script now in CM 7 that will prompt and ask which google apps you want to install. It runs when you access the market.

Will do, however most people seemed happy with it on MDJ's CM7, but a few of us weren't. It's like every launcher runs at half the framerate it does on AOSP Gingerbread.
http://pastebin.com/5vZgcmGu

Going to install now. Lets see how it will work.
Sent from my Uber HTC HD2 using XDA App

I am gonna update the KGSL drivers to see if that makes a difference, also nothing in logcat seems to be slowing system down

Ok. It just seems weird that every CM7 rom doesn't run as smoothly as AOSP, if anything it should be the other way around.

Which launchers? I've been running MDJ's CM7 with ADW EX and I have no issues with performance.

This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Visit the CHANGELOG for a full list of changes and features!
All source code is available at the CyanogenMod Github! Send pull requests with your changes!

HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
- Was it a hard reboot? Get me the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
- Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get me the full output.

First impression:
- Feels slower then nightly 188 with Flykernel-12 pre1, So i installed Flykernel-12 Pre1 back and noticed right away the little speed improvement over the stock kernel that comes with CM 6.1.0 stable
- When turning on GPS in house, (WiFi already on) Data connection pops up alongside the WiFi (is this normal?, never noticed it this doing with the nightly)
I just installed but now when connected via USB cable the phone is no longer being recognized by may laptop The phone as well does not come up with a notification, yet is starts charging?!
anyone...suggestions?

Finally we have a stable version of the best rom around here. New life for our heroes.
Already downloaded this at cyanogen not tried the nightly roms, but have used RC version, looks good
Will give this a shot, coming from RC1, Fly kernel 11c...tell ya if its faster
Go Cyanogen!!
What kernel does this ROM use? Is it based on... FlyKernel or some other kernel from a rom on XDA. Or is this CM's own work?
If the kernel isn't great, is it possible to replace it with something nice like FlyKernel?

correct me somebody if I'm wrong but it is highly recommended to flash flykernel right after you flash the ROM... at least I do it this way and then linpack shows nicer numbers )
CM6.1 flashes it's own kernel, and it is slower, so after the test i flashed Flykernel-12 Pre1 and this is way faster.
seems i cannot connect to WiFi using this bad boy...anyone else suffering this?
to upgrade my rc1 to this one, I just make a nandroid backup and i directly flash the 6.1.0 ? or I've to make a wipe etc...?
thanks
so is this rom working solid or is it slow?

Exchange
Is Exchange sync working in this? Only reason that has prevented me from using the earlier version(s)
UPDATE: Yes, Exchange sync works!
Works just fine for me

Know of any themes that can be used with this? I tried the HTC Black that was referred on the [COLLECTION] thread under Hero GSM General, but it did NOT work - I had to revert to a Nand backup to get things back to normal! However the white standard android is a bit grating on my eyes. If anyone knows of good themes that work with this please let me know! Thanks!

The latest version 1-15-2011 have gmail. It just gives you more options on what you want to install. check the boxes and it will install what you want.
Could someone enlighten me as to how the upgrade path for this will work?
I'm new to the Android scene, and have heard lots about Cyanogen, I'm just a bit confused about all the different versions and such.
I was following the previous thread, which seemed to be about preview nightlies, and now we're just talking about nightlies...
Is this sort of like a RC, or is this the final deal? If this isn't the final deal, how difficult is to to update your phone once an update is posted (nightly?).
Sorry for the newbishness, any guidance is appreciated!

It's the same thing from Zinx previews, but here we will have official nightlies from the devs that mean every night we will have a build from the buildBot. Both Zinx and kmob's are the official CM Teams.
Looks like I have something to do tonight...my bro has been asking me about cm7 on his MT4G for awhile now...

Josh, wait for a release candidate. these are more for testing even if they work fine.

Gotta say that nightly number 1 is flying compared to the rest of the cm7 builds out thee love it!
NIGHTLY are not for noobs
Nightly #1 has broken wifi, fyi. It turns on, doesn't scan for a network, and then turns itself off after about 30 seconds. But in general, I'm excited that nightlies are finally here.
Great job so far zinx and kmobs... thanks.

What kernel is included in this ROM? Is it in any way overclocked? Should it be replaced with the venerable FlyKernel? Or is it a perfectly optimised Gingerbread kernel that should be left well alone?
Kernel recommendations for this ROM would be extremely appreciated
Also, big props to everyone who's worked on this! I'm extremely grateful that my auld Hero's still supported.

There are quite a few bugs at it :-/ I got no clue why exactly it is declared as stable for the Hero device

Imah give it a miss. Had it running for 2/3 hours and I've gone back to villan13 just for the pure speed of it.

There are quite a few bugs actually. Although I'm finding performance to be very good, it often crashes (screen just stays black) when transitioning between screens.
Often dialog boxes don't show up – the screen will dim but the dialog won't appear.
I'm going to perservere for a while though. I really like CyanogenMod ROMs – stock Android, but nicely tweaked. Since the Froyo builds haven't been updated in ages, this is probably worth sticking with, especially if a point release can come soon that fixes some of the little bugs.
Aw man, it's sad to hear that none of the bugfixes we desperately needed appear to be in this release. Hopefully they'll be sorted out in due time, though.
How many people with the invisible menus bug are using compcache?
I turned it onto 18%, and had the bug something rotten. No notification bar menu thing, no apps list in ADW, settings menu broke. I managed to long press home back into the performance menu, turned off compcache, reboot and not one invisible menu since.
With regards to speed, it was terribly slow, so I downloaded and ran the script floating round xda to put the I/O scheduler into noop mode, downloaded SD increase from the market, set it to 2048kb, and just set moderate in autokiller, and everything is smooth now at 576/19mhz.
Possibly the worst hero rom I've used.
unable to scroll in some pop up menus.
black screens randomly.
slow slow performance.
What happened? I've been on cronos for a while, but had a nightly about number 20 and that was fine. To credit a developer with being in charge of the hero section and to release this rubbish as a stable rom, with the standard the cyanogen team seem to set themselves is an embarrassment to all their previous work.
Agreed, this should not have been released as stable for the Hero. For those looking for a stable Gingerbread ROM you would be better off trying Cronos Ginger, or Elelinux's GB ROM (although I haven't tried that one).
First I red post title and got very excited, then I red your posts and now I feel like sticking still with stock sense lol.
the invisible menu bug rears its ugly head once again. is it a hero specific problem or is it a gingerbread specific issue?
I like it very much!!!
Using this ROM still early beta, compiled from sources. Not a perfect one because of some bug (coming from AOSP) but very usable. Another point: this is the only ROM with FULL sources code available, so it is easily customizable.

[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for the HTC Hero (GSM) :: V7.1.0 (9 Oct 2011)

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>

* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Sweet! Can't wait for CM9, that will be amazing. I wonder if it will make its way to the Hero...

I guess were skipping CM8?
I had some problems with GAPPS and Market working correctly at first. A reflash of the GAPPS package solved the problem. I know with some other ROMs doing a reboot between flashing the ROM and flashing GAPPS helps to avoid similar problems, so might be wise to do.
Otherwise, everything is looking good so far. I like the new lockscreen.
Good job! i am using this ROM. faster! the kernel is 2.6.29, why not use 2.6.35?

After playing around with the 35 kernel, I think 29's battery drain is more reasonable.
Although the slightly performance advancing is not noticed by me...
Does this rom support a2sd+? Thanks!
is there an option to change the screen density to 140 DPI? I tried a patch from the VanillaEclair thread, but this causes a loop at the bootanimation. The circle completes one full round and then freezes, causing the animation to start over.
Any advice please?
EDIT: I'll just use LCDDensity then
Thanks for the 7.1.0 Stable, working great till now
Again having bug with video on 71-st minute!!!!!!!!!!!!
another issue i have is that the market indicates google maps is incompatible with my device...
EDIT: Seems to be related with LCDDensity. I can install it if I set it back to the default value of 160. Weird...
I have issues with SIM pin code with stable release and nightlies, does anyone have same issues here?¿?

because it's an official stable release. the .35 kernel hasn't reached official stable release yet. the .29 kernel did reach that point a long time ago.
If you want groundbreaking tech, don't use this rom. if you want stable and solid and cool stuff compared to the stock hero, use this rom.
cheers

official cm roms do not come with the following hacks:
- ext based apps2sd
- dpi changing
- launchers other than the free stable version of adw
- kernels other than the current main stable kernel (which is the old .29 kernel but highly modified of course, either it is fly13 or is very similar to it)
if you want this rom but with cool addons and extra features and a sexier/faster/smoother launcher and more active xda-based support, use elelinux cm7 3.5 (or later). it's the same basic rom but with his cool UI mods, a2sd, and so on.
Elelinux is the official gsm hero cyanogenmod developer anyhow so you know you're getting the best of the best with his cm roms
But this is certainly a cool rom if you don't like ext partitions or smooth launchers. I tried it and it was solid and stable. I prefer ele's 3.5 rom though for it's extra features.
Interesting reading about how so many Heros' are affected differently.
What really surprised me was that when I installed Ele CM7-3.5.1 and doing a full wipe of all over GOku 1.3e, Ele's rom booted up with all my apps including all Google apps, right at the the first boot???? I was amazed, never having this happen to me before.
Anyway, I have tried most of the latest roms, mainly GB and Froyo but I just keep coming back to GOku 1.3e or VE6.1 because I have also found odd things happening on the other roms. They all excell at doing most of the stuff that I need from a working 'phone. These things do take time and the developers really are amazing.
VE6.1 for blazing fast and stable and GOku when I need better sound for music.

Only way that can happen is if you didn't wipe ext partition. In cwm recovery that is automatic. In amon-ra you have to do it manually every time. Although in this case it wasn't a problem since they were similar gb roms so compatibility issues didn't affect you.

I had the same experience with flashing Ele's 3.5.1 over Goku's 1.3e. Apps were the same, even email was setup for hotmail. I figured I'd missed a wipe but am pretty sure I'd done it. I generally wipe twice between new roms, but perhaps I'd missed something. I use cwm every time.
