Hey all. So I am a fairly new Evo owner, about one week now, and after flashing my first couple of Roms, I have noticed some significant performance issues with my phone.
I have followed all of usual steps when flashing, wiping, backing up, etc. Yet after trying the Ava ROM and moving over to Myns TwoPointTwo, my phone speed and Quadrant scores dropped significantly. (scored below Moto Droid. I outscored the nexus 2.2 on first rooted and flashed Rom)
I just did a hard reset on my phone, and there still seems to be some performance issues, though not as bad, fps and slight keyboard lag.
Any suggestions or advice on getting my phone back to 110% would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry in advance if this is duplicate thread. Im on my phone now, and not near my pc for some time...

The first thing I would try is a different kernel. For my EVO, 95% of the performance issues I have experienced have been kernel related. I flash a new one, and if my phone likes it the problems clear up. Make sure you wipe dalvik and cache before you flash it.
Ive only had my evo for a week and a half now. And like he said try a different kernel. Ive had to try a few different rom/kernel combos until i got the. Preformance. And batt life i wanted. Its wa worth the hassel though. By fay the best phone ive ever had.
|{Sent from Anjahls EVO}|
I flashed amon ra recovery, fully wiped, nandroided, and flashed Myns ROM w a suggested kernel.
So far my performance has increased 10 fold. I haven't run a quadrant score yet, but at least the fps is back up and my keyboard lag went away.

Hey all I am torn between two roms.
I have a stock froyo 2.2 that has just been rooted. I have just been using the stock for a couple of days and thought I might try either Fresh 3.2 or Baked Snack 1.7? Will I lose 4g, HDMI or anything else with these roms? I just want a smooth phone when flipping through screens as well as decent batt life.
Opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brad
I just tried both of those ROMs. I prefer BS 1.7 with kernel 4 or 5. Set up some good profiles with setcpu and doubled my battery life over stock. smooth as butter, and everything (even 4g) still works.
I have been enjoying Fresh without any issues.
Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm in the same boat as you. I recently rooted my EVO with a stock 2.2 and was wondering the same about which ROM to run. Hopefully some more people chime in here.
I have seen a video of baked snack 1.7 running and it seems to have all that I want and was very smooth so I might try that one.
Fresh 3.2 has been the first and only custom rom I flashed.
I don't know if I'm missing something, but there's not a whole lot different than stock.
Comparing battery life to non-rooted coworker phones had been insignificant. Not sure what else I can do with it.
Fwiw, turning off 3g has had a massive positive effect on battery.
I rooted maybe 3 weeks ago and the first rom I flashed was Baked Snack 1.7. Since then I've tried Fresh as well with the netarchy kernal but I still prefer Baked Snack and went back to it. Everything works. Usually runs me about 12+ hours before hitting the 50% battery mark on light-moderate usage. Runs smooth as butter. Fresh is nice too, don't get me wrong, but something about Baked Snack just seems a little snappier.
Hey Evo-board,
My friend has an Evo and I recently Rooted and got him Myn's ROM, but he's having some pretty bad battery life. I've got him some battery tweaks but it's looking like the phone is draining pretty badly. Any ideas, or even a ROM you'd suggest. Any help would be great. Please and Thank You.

Wipe and reflash the rom. I don't like the battery tweaks and that will clear it away. Next get a kernel with sbc. Sbc kernels and myn rom give me great battery life.

Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4.95!
Also, be sure that (if it is rls4) you aren't using the 1.9 pri, or the most recent radio with the htc 17 kernel. They aren't compatible with the 3.70 software, cuz rls4 is based off 3.30. So id suggest rolling back to the 1.77pri, and to the last radio. Or you could leave the newest radio and use a different kernel, other than htc. 17. That should handle it. Btw, myns has great battery life

The easy way. (download everything you need from the links and put the .zip files where you put your rom so you can find them easily)
Do a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik)
re-flash rom
Then, without rebooting, do the following:
flash the #15 kernel from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876590
flash the 1.77.003 PRI from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
in that order and don't reboot until you've flashed all 3 in that order. Battery should be much better (I'm at 70% after having been unplugged since 2:30pm and it's 8:30pm now) and your friend shouldn't have any lag problems or any problems whatsoever.
If you don't wanna go through all that, MikFroyo's rom works with all the new hardware and it's fast and efficient. I spent over a day figuring this out lol because I wanted Myn on my new hardware Evo as well.
Wow that's great, Thanks for all the help. Unfortunately friend isn't around for me to help change that for him. But first thing tomorrow i'll reflash and do those two other flashables. Thanks a lot guys, really like this board a heck of a lot more then others.

I don't have any lag on my Evo at all, unless my phone doesn't like a particular kernel. When everything is dialed in, it runs smooth and quick, on sense or AOSP. I would tend to think that there is a reason you're getting lag. Can you be more specific? Does everything lag, or is it just certain apps? Have you tried wiping everything and reflashing whatever ROM you're using? Or at least just wiping cache and dalvik cache then trying out a different kernel?
Awhile ago I used to have a samsung galaxy s that I did a lag fix on and it really made fast faster. My phone its pretty fast I was just kinda wondering? I am using Koni Elite 2 and pretty impressed, but MikFroyo is my favorite rom so far. I'm pretty new to this..

Gotchya. I was just looking around a Samsung Fascinate forum the other day, prepping to root my buddies phone. I saw all sorts of strange talk of lag fix, voodoo kernels, Odin's, clockwork red, clockwork blue, clockwork green, D109's and DJ05's, haha. All sorts of stuff that I'm not used to seeing over here on the Evo forum. I felt like a total noob reading through it all at first. Anyways, there's no specific 'lag fix' that I'm aware of for the Evo. Like I said, differnt kernels can drastically affect the way the phone runs. another thing that can sometimes potentially make the phone laggy is the 1.90 pri. Some phones don't like that pri (mine included) and the 1.77 pri works much better. Others report the oppositte. But, basically, you're phone shouldn't really have any lag when everything is working properly, at least in my experience. So if you are getting any drastic lag, I'd try making some changes.
It's not my phone it's me..I'm running out of things to do, and always trying to make fast faster! I just want the page opened and ready before I even hit the button...
Lol...

If you really wasn't to see your phone fly, install CM 6.1.2 along with the 7.6 Snap Turbo kernel. There is a whole thread here to help you out. I get quadrant scores near 2600 with that setup. Only downside, no 4g.

I remember absolutely needing a lag fix on my vibrant, I hated it. I fell the evo is pretty damn fast. That and the gps problem is why I ditched samsung for htc. The samoled screen wasnt nice enough when functionality was ****. Im using azrael 4.0 rom with launcher pro and my evo is pretty zippy
My EVO has becoming slower. This was obvious through Quadrant, but also slightly through daily use. It was snappier on the first day.
I am rooted; I'm currently on the MikG v1.0 ROM with Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1/3.0 . I take care of my phone: I run a cache cleaner each day for internal storage as well as the SD card. My internal storage is 45% free (194MB) while my SD card is 58% free (4.35GB). My microSD card is a Sandisk 8GB Class 4.
Now, I don't blame any ROM for my low scores / slightly sluggishness. My first ROM was Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS4, then switched to RLS5 within a week once it came out. i used to get scores fluctuating near 1300, even 1400 some times. I don't think I had ever gotten a 1200 back then. I've played around with other ROMs too, including Mikfroyo's ROMs, CM ROMs, and Virus's ROMs etc.. I always properly wipe data, cache, & dalvik cache as well. I've tried custom kernels, mostly being attached to Netarchy's kernels. However, on my currrent ROM I can't use his kernels because there is a specific kernel for this ROM that prevents Wi-Fi and Sprint WiMAX 4G from breaking / being unusable. But you see, the problem isn't even the kernel, because even when I was on a Netarchy kernel on Myn's ROM, I started getting scores nearing 1000 (I've even got around a ~950).
So what's to blame for these low scores? Just the phone becoming old? I'd prefer not having to use a new kernel or ROM, because I've had this problem with most ROMs regardless of kernel. Also, what can I do to speed up my phone?
Thank you so much in advance to anyone who provides help.
I'm pretty sure quadrant scores mean jack ****. That's what all the devs say, at least.
Mik's 2.1 sense w/ some 3.0 also runs considerably slower than stock if that's what you're noticing.
Probably just paranoia and your ROM.

That'd make sense, but I've actually gotten slightly better scores on this ROM.
Also, I started getting lower scores on Myn's ROM first - from 1200s-1300s to 900s-1100s.
EDIT: By the way, I've seen scores in 1700s. Does this just range from phone to phone? Makes me feel like my phone sucks comparatively, lol.
Your phone is like a computer. Sometimes, you just need to start over to clean everything up.
Mine got like that a few months ago, so I ran S-OFF, RUU, re-rooted, etc and started from stock. It made a big difference.

Yeah, my fault. The S-ON tool is for use when you used Unrevoked to root your phone. You can d/l it on the unrevoked website.
Flash it in recovery before you run RUU
I am finding out from using different roms and getting a feel and see of how fast or slow the actions on my phone has not does not always agree with quadrant...if you run quadrant multiple times you will get different results....not changing anything...so is that a indicator of how good or bad your phone is? Or could it be that quadrant is flawed to use as a gauge. I don't use quadrant anymore near the frequency I did it the past...I would flash a rom every other day it seemed like and over clocked..under clocked...smart ass/interactive/ etc...every setting under the sun to make it faster...smoother and so on just for a few more bars on quadrant or speedtest...ot fps...then I realized I was just wearing out my batteries and buttons and wasting time..quadrant is not even a speed test...it is really a judge at how the darn quadrant feels like the score it wants to give you. Maintenance of the phone is needed.but a few hundred points that could vary after hundreds of hours literally of trying to max out poerformance.....ask yourself...is it really worth it...that is what I now tell myself...
My wife is currently about to enter her last semester of nursing school. She has had an EVO for about 6 months I'd say, which most of that time she was Rooted but on the stock ROM, until she got tired of stuff not working right.
I gave her the Synergy ROM which she took a while to get used to, the only issue she had was text messages not sending, then sending over and over and over. I then convinced her to try CM7, and switched her to Google Voice. Apparently she is getting FC issues, and she claims that battery is just as bad, as well as random reboots. She now wants something that is STABLE above all else, and has battery life that will last her through a day.
What would the best option be? Im opting to go back to Synergy since the texting issue should be fixed with GV, but any way to optimize that battery?
Thanks in advance,
Adam.
Do you have an Airave (sp?)? That will cause the texting issues you describe, at least it does for me and over heard of others having the same problem.
I'd suggest MIUI if she doesn't need 4G, it's been stable for me for almost a year. You have to be careful which build you choose, as some of the newer ones are not stable. If you decide to try it, I can point you towards my favorite build that are known to be stable.
If she does need 4G or just doesn't like MIUI, if say try a close to stock rom. I hear the Mik roms are good, but I've never personally used them. Warm 2.2 was the last Sense rom that I ran. It was a long time ago and is now outdated, but I liked it for the few days I ran it.
Supersonic Evo 4G | MIUI | Tapatalk
I'd recommend MikG v3.0 or Tommeytomatoes Classic v0.0.5 Finale. She won't have any problems at all and she'll get great battery life as well. Chopsuey kernel pairs up great with MikG.

Hit that thanks button if I managed to help.
Thanks, flashing MikG now.
We dont have an airave, only way the texting issue happened was with the stock messaging app. Even with CM7 it did until we switched to GV.
My wife had evo for little over a year. We tried pretty much all roms, but always go back to stock. If you want everything to work, then stick with last OTA. My recommendation would be stick with stock. Perhaps get an Anker battery from ebay.
Vaelpak GB or vaelpak rc 3.2 are both quality roms
Sent from my Evo 3d
If she wants aosp go with Deck 1.3d with the LEE kernel. That's what I run and I get great battery life and zero fcs.
If she wants sense Mik 3.0, Classic, and Swag out of stock are great and stable. My wife runs mik 3.0 and loves it. She charges her phone about every other day.

I'd say infected rom eternity. sense 3.5. it's what i'm using right now and in my experience it is super stable. i dont think i've had one FC issue in the past few days i've been running it. battery life is decent also.
My wife is running MikG v3.0. Can't go wrong with a MikROM. I wouldn't trust anything else on her phone, because if there are issues, I'll have to hear about it. And Mik's ROMs don't have any.
Thanks guys, already put MikG 3.0 on it, and she loves it.
I actually thought to try it, and this brought me back to Sense. I've been swearing by AOSP roms for a long time now, and this out lasts them and just feels more stable. It might not be as smooth as AOSP, but the stuff that is supposed to work just works without issue.
Have been running this for 2 days now and I think we're set. Thanks again guys!
Have you tried applying the tweaks from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470921
It might make your phone smoother and faster.
.... Double Post....
CM7 with SavagedZen kernel has always been rock-solid for me with fantastic battery life. Add the supercharger script too and it flies. Seems so much faster than any sense based rom and looks great with the ICS theme for ADW

I was getting ready to make a thread to ask this very question when I saw this one.
It seems that the MikG v3.0 is the way to go. Thanks for the tips.
I am used to Samsung phones, so I am a bit rusty on the EVO, so had a few questions..
Should I return to full stock, get the OTA, then apply this ROM?
Any concerns I should watch out for if I do go back to stock and accept the latest OTA, or do you guys recommend another path to get to the MikG ROM?
I got a pretty good handle on modding, was just looking for a basic highlevel overview of things to watch out for, that I may not have run into on my Samsung devices.

There's no reason to do anything related to the OTA prior to flashing MikG. If you already have a custom recovery (RA-supersonic - if it's CWM, that's the first thing you should change), just nandroid, do a full wipe (everything except SD Card), and then flash the ROM. If you need to backup apps, use my backup pro or Titanium Backup on the current ROM.
Go Deck
If you don't mind ditching a Sense interface for AOSP then I would suggest Deck's Gingerbread ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078558.
Just about tops for the two reasons you seem to be looking at... Stability and battery life.
His new ICS ROM has amazing battery life (over 2 days, single charge) but it's not at a daily-driver stage yet.
Good luck!
