i want to change my rom but i dnt wana erase how my homescreen is and al my apps and stuff is there a way to save everithing so i dnt have to do all that work over again?
Do a nandroid
Then when you restore do this
Cwm>backup&restore>advanced restore>pick backup>restore data
You could also try mybackup pro

Yes!!! Bonsai rom backs up and restores everything for you in the same backup. It does it all for you. If you want a diff. Rom you can make a NAND backup and then restore data. You can also use an app like titanium to restore.

Can anyone tell me how to upgrade to gingervillan from the defrost 6.1 rom without losing my data and settings? Do I do a nandroid or titanium backup? I'm kinda new to the rooting scene.

You will lose your settings as you are flashing a new Rom.
1. To keep apps: titanium backup (backup apps + data)
2. If you want to keep other data such as messages etc: my backup pro (this can backup your apps too but rather use titanium for apps)

backup files are on ur microsd , nand backup should be in clockworkmod folder (if u're using clockworkmod recovery) , as for apps backed up by titanium they are in the titanium folder
when u do a wipe and flash a new ROM,just install titanium again and restore the apps u want.

Actually settings can be saved, too (Homescreen, Icons, widgets, Messages, WiFi etc. ) with Titanium backup.
you should also ofcourse do a NANDbackup if you ever want to go back to your old rom. when you restore a NANDbackup everything will look the same as before the rom change.
Whenever I install a new rom, can restoring the saved data from apps bring along bugs and problems from the previous rom? The TB site says that is not the case, but would like to hear the opinion of other people. I almost always restore the data, is it better to restore just the apps once in awhile?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
It depends on the rom. Usually it says on the rom info if it is ok to restore. If it dosent say then usually its ok to restore data. Also if your just upgrading the rom to a newer version restoring data usually doesnt wreck the rom. But you should do a full wipe before flashing a new rom

I have never seen a rom say anything about titanium backup. I see them talk about maybe a nand data restore, but I'm pretty sure that is different than a titanium backup app+data restore. A nand data backup/restore just backs up and restores the entire data partition. A tb backup only backs up the data that is attached to each installed app.
Just to make sure I'm clear to everyone I'm talking only about APP data. I know you can backup and restore system data with tb but I'm not interested in messing with that. It takes 5 min to configure system settings.

Restoring App data can cause issues, and if you want to be safe just do a nandroid backup before restoring all of the apps+data just to be sure. You should have no problems though.
The big thing to avoid is restoring system data. This restores things like settings etc. and is very dangerous unless you're re-flashing the same exact type of ROM as your Titanium Backup (i.e. fresh install of CM7 after being on CM7 prior).
Titanium Backup never wreked my instalation of new roms.
Hi... Like everybody here, I love to try new roms, versions, etc... The problem is that everytime we full wipe our phone, we obviously lose everything.
I was looking for some tools to help me to backup/restore my apps (including swype, which seems impossible to backup) quickly. Titanium backup can't restore automatically... What about Rom toolbox pro? Worth it?
Thanks
There's always cwm which will backup whole ROM it includes apps and data, combined with titanium you can restore phone back to stock.
Cwm will not back up automatically.

I don't want to backup to stock or restore the rom... I just want to have my apps and data back quickly when I change my rom...
Titanium Backup up is simply the best. Also My Backup Root is worth trying.
Titanium is good but the noisy thing about it that you should press install for every app you restore.
if u tried Titanium Backup Pro you wouldn't ask expect for auto restore

I use titanium backup to backup my apps. So I don't have to download it again from market after formating my device. Still I have apps that I have backup last December. I restore backup after installing any mod or formatting the device. I didn't face any problem yet.

Titanium backup makes a backup of any app that you want - may it be a system or a user app to the sd card. It even backs up the data of that application - for example if you backup angry birds, then even your progress level gets backed up. Now, when you want to restore your backup the only requirement would be to have superuser access ( rooted phone ). When you restore a backup, you will have an option of only app or app+data. If you select app+data then you will get your angry birds progress back! That's how tb works.:good:
I know it is a very newbie question, but how can I keep all the apps and configuration when I switch between roms? Does restoring from nandroid backup will restore the phone and configuration to back how it was? Thanks

nandroid backup will not keep the game data. use titanium backup that's the easiest way

Titanium backup will do the trick but sometimes when restoring old data I've had some issues with lots of force closes and some other unexplainable strange things going on. It's best to start fresh on a new rom.
Titanium backup is your answer
If you back up apps and data from your personally installed apps, restoring should not cause any problems. If you try to backup and restore system apps and data across different roms (ie tw and aosp), you're likely to experience some problems.
When it comes to system data, it can be hit or miss. Generally the only thing that will likely break is contacts, as each provider (samsung, htc) puts their own spin on it, and it tends to not be compatible. but if you use google to store your contacts, you should be golden. After some time you'll know which parts are compatible across all roms (within the same version family).
So, backup everything you want to keep. And make a full nandroid.
Install your new rom.
Restore your personal apps and data (like angry birds)
Make sure everything is golden.
Make a nandroid
One by one, restore any system data you want (like accounts, wifi access points, mms).
After each one, go through a reboot cycle, make sure everything works.
Nandroid and restore next system data
This way you can easily back out of a restore that breaks something without having to start over again. And you will get a feel for what's restorable and what isnt.
Beware changing back to 4.1 from 4.2. There are threads on this worth reading.
And, yes, nandroid will restore everything just like you had it, assuming you choose to backup -everything- (which is advisable).

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question
