Hi all. Ok I've been attempting to fix this for hmmm. 8 hours I guess..
multiple forums multiple every thing...
I attempted to flash from Viper ROm Trinity to the new Frozen
I got to the start up ani screen.. then.. nothing but the lit keys at the bottom of the phone.. and a black screen... couldn't figure how to correct so I thought I'd just flash back to DK 28.
All attempts leave me with a colored screen of death
I have tried various combinations within Odin (re partition, reset time, checked and unchecked) and all the USB ports on my machine (haven't tried a different cable or computer yet).. all to no avail..
Where I get stuck is at factoryfs my screen on the phone turns a different color (pink, yellow, green, blue.. etc..)
I'm exhausted....
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much
Well at least I no know why my original move from Trinity to Frozen prob.. didn't work: EXT file system.. didn't update before the flash..
Now to hopefully be able to somehow get back to stock...
I'll try a new cable and report back
Try redownloading the file or taking out the sd card and trying it again. Odin is very picky sometimes.
So I tried my friends old ass XP machine with a nice fat usb cable.. and BANG... !!
All worked well as it should.
Flashed right to vanilla DK28
then CW
then 3 finger salute to ViperrRom_fRoZeN
I want to make love to this ROM... LOL..

Hey Everyone,
I have searched the intererd and here as well and have not found any advice that has helped hence this post.
Recently my wife's epic 4g was on ACS ICS v 5.5 with the samari kernel it comes with. It started acting strange by locking in landscape mode. I rebooted it only to not be able to get into recovery or the ROM itself.
I initially was unable to get odin to recognize the phone in download mode due to usb oxidation corrosion. I took apart the phone since I saw greenish oxidation on the usb port. I used 91% rubbing alcohol to clean the motherboard of corrosion and cleaned the contacts. I opened Odin and put the phone into download mode without a SD Card or battery in.
Odin finally recognized the phone and I clicked all three buttons (Partition, reboot and F Reset). I selected the correct PIT file and selected the SPH-D700-EL30-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 file.
ODIN worked and my phone reboots after flashing. I unplug from the PC and put in the battery and press the on button. The phone the proceeds to show the SAMSUNG screen but does not progress past this screen. It restarts itself to the same screen and repeats this forever. I have tried various batteries ( ihave stock and extended) and cables with no avail. I have even tried Stock EC05 tar files. Nothing works.
Does any one have any other insight that I am missing?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like A bad download. Download the EL30 tar fresh and try again.

Exactly what kenny said. Just this time have reboot and repartition checked "only"

Thanks guys. I tried your suggestions to no avail. I think one of the usb contacts aren't 100% so its enough to fool Odin into thinking its right to the NAND ok when it is in fact not.
The misses is going to sprint today to see what the can do. Oh well. Thanks for the replies.....always appreciated.

whatever you do, don't tell them it's rooted. deny to them any knowledge of root
Okay so I'm running stock ICS without root or any custom stuff, everything just stock, today I was listening to music and decided to change the songs, so I pressed the power button but the screen didn't come on, tried a few more times, the screen didn't come on but the music kept going, so out of desperation I held down the power button and after 3 seconds or so it sounded like a BSOD, sound repeated quickly for a second then just nothing.
So after that I tried starting it up back again, here we go, acer logo....aaaannnddd.......nothing.
Tried a few more times and left it over 30 minutes yet nothing. just that acer logo.
so finally I though I could flash a stock rom file, so I grabbed the .014 ics file and put it in my freshly formatted micro sd under the name update.zip (and no I didn't have the double .zip), then I went to recovery, it came up with the familiar android with his chest open and the spinning cube thingy in front of him, then after 5 seconds it came up with the android and the red warning sign above him, which usually meant either SD card not found or update.zip not found, tried a few more times and NOTHING.
FINALLY, I tried the volume down and rotation lock method to try factory reset, it erased userdata and cache and fingers crossed...yet nothing.
am I SOL? Or is there any hope at all, I tried connecting to a computer while it's at the Acer logo screen, you can hear the USB connect and disconnect sound, but adb won't detect it, please help, I love this thing too much and Acer wants me to pay 100 dollars to fix it, I'll die before I do that.
ANY HELP will be appreciated, any suggestions are welcome.
Bump, anyone please??
I love this tablet too much
Try update.zip again on a different SD card. Not all of them work in all devices. Also doubt check its formatted fat32 not something else. Are you sure you have the proper drivers installed for adb?

I have proper drivers installed and I tried with 2 sd cards, one was almost full but on FAT32, and one was freshly formatted to FAT, I'll try format to FAT32 and report back
I tried formatting to FAT32, placing the update.zip
Sadly, didn't work
Any other suggestions anyone?

What does didn't work mean? The answers are in the details, we need them or we're just guessing at random things. Any text, vibrations, lights, pictures all that.
Try adb from a different cable, port, computer? Try hard reset again, hell try 3-4 times, sometimes it takes some persistence.
Oh also plug it into power supply, low battery can cause issues too.

I've been trying for a few days with almost everything, tried APX mode but apparently it doesn't work since you need the CPU ID
and by "doesn't work", I mean I get the vibration, the acer logo pops up, then at the top it starts saying the loading update.zip stuff, then it goes to the green android with it's chest opened and a small blue link ball rotating beside him, after 7-8 seconds, it just shows a dead android, with his chest open and a red triangle with an ! in it.
So yeah, ADB doesn't work, as it never goes past the acer screen.
OK have you managed or tried fastboot? If you can manage that then you should be able to get adb up.
This is basically what I mean about fast boot

Only if I can get to fastboot from stock bootloader, everything I had was stock, OTA ICS, stock bootloader, and no root

You can that's how you unlock the boot loader, check out that post and give it a shot.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
Can you maybe link me or if you know tell me how to get to it? I'm kind of new to all of this :/, I tried searching with no results
Take a read through this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655945
It discusses a slightly different scenario but the techniques attempted are what I mean to try.
Post #3 gives a good outline of steps to try. Also 14 25 31 maybe 27 if it goes south.
I've never personally experienced this so I have no experience however the process in that thread is the same I would attempt if it happened to me. Basically it will attempt to unlock the boot loader then flash a custom recovery which you can then install a new rom. It will turn it into a modded device BUT it will unbrick you and make repairing this issue a lot easier in the future.

Gave up
Update:
So yeah i've tried everything and nothing seemed to work, all it shows is that acer logo
Gave it to my sister, she said she'd send it back to the acer facility, hope for best.
Ok, I searched this site and the web but have not found an answer. If there is one I am not seeing, please point me to it. Otherwise, here goes:
I was having trouble with the transparent digital clock not doing anything when I clicked on it such as setting an alarm. I used root explorer to delete the clock and the odex file and replaced it with the original apk. I also went into manage files and cleared the data for the app. Then I rebooted. It gets past the Galaxy SII screen, plays the sound file, and shows the word Android for about 5 passes of the reflective effect and then goes to a black screen and does nothing else. I can not get into recovery or download mode, but when connecting to the USB cable, Odin sees the device.
I tried to Odin using the no data file and it got stuck on RQT_CLOSE!! for 15 minutes. I finally unplugged the cable and tried again with the same results except that now I just get the firmware upgrade encountered an issue screen.
Odin still connects and goes through everything until it gets to RQT_CLOSE!!
I used Odin to gain root and am still on stock rom.
What are my options if any?

Ok. Started to try the new tar file, but it kept disconnecting and connecting over and over. I suspect it is due to a dead battery. How can I charge the battery? The phone keeps flashing the yellow triangle screen. I know this morning I was able to get it to the screen that shows the battery with the white dots moving below it. Is there a combination of buttons that I need to press or do I need to just find another battery?
UPDATE: I bought a universal charger and started again. Tried the link above with the same results. I figured what the heck and started trying different modems since this is where it was getting hung up. Nothing worked. They all gave me the same sticking point. I came across this, and it worked!! My phone rebooted and is now back to stock with the EL26 modem which was the last one I had tried.
Hope this helps anyone that may come across this in the future.
Heres the deal, Ive had my original Epic4g for 2 years, I still love it but its worn out. I bought a new(used) one on ebay for cheap, ad said it freezes on boot and the owner couldn't fix it. sounded like a simple brick.
I received the phone, trying to turn it on loads the black SAMSUNG screen, the keys and soft touch buttons eventually light and then it freezes as such.
It will boot to download mode (1 + power) and will connect to ODIN, but Ive restored with various PIT/PDA combinations(follewed this guide first-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813) All say "Succeed 1/ failed 0" but they never get a different result (will still freeze at SAMSUNG with captive keys lit).
Also, Ive tried flashing a CWM-5 .tar and cannot get it into recovery. (yields same result, frozen w/ captive keys lit).
I HAVE tried odin 1.???, odin 3.04, different USB cables and a different computer. I dont believe communication is my issue.

Try a heavy duty blackberry cable as a last resort also remove battery and SD card if there is one. Odin again try to turn on if it still fails I would say truly hardware issue.
=( I am def using a heavy duty blackberry cable and ive had much success with it. I will try pulling the battery and SD card, thank you for that advice.
As for the hardware, Thats my big worry here, I'm hoping that's not the case... Messing with the phone, it feels like it has a missing/corrupt partition. does formatting with Odin in the PDA slot replace the boot section? (still learning what does what here ) If not, how can I reformat the boot partition?
Also, just for the sake of not giving up anytime soon, is there anyway to flash a custom rom/kernal(CM9 maybe?) through odin?

Make sure to include the PIT file included with odin. This will repartition the device and restore all as stock. We do not currently have any odinable current ROMs. I have an old EC05 froyo Odinalble prerooted rom in my archive but that is it.
It might be physical damage and not software corruption.. pretending it isn't though, verify that you're flashing the rom under PDA and not phone, frustration and desperation can make us do the most silliest mistakes.

Yea, ive gone at it left and right, so im pretty damn sure its hardware... Anyone have an epic with a cracked screen and good internals they wanna sell me?
So I left my phone on the charger in the car because it was dying, came outside and it was stuck on the Galaxy Note II screen with the green light on. I unplugged the cord, the phone refused to come on so I did a battery pull. Upon powering it back on, I get this screen that looks like Poltergeist and phone does nothing. When in Poltergeist, I can't get the computer to see my phone, so that I can back it up before formatting. Volume up, menu, power doesn't get me into recovery mode. I can't get into safe mode either. ican however boot volume down, menu, power it into the mode where I can flash it, Odin will see it, but going straight to flashing means I lose everything.
Does anyone have an idea beforehand? I know I'm asking a lot, but these forums have gotten way over my head over the years. This is an isolated incident, so if you could even attach the file directly that I can attempt to flash vids Odin to fix my booting issue vs saying goto X thread because every thread seems to have it's own multiple files. I just wanna recover it so it'll come on, back up it and then I'll research on my own how to flash it completely. It's 6am my time and I've gotta be up by 1130am for work, so please reply for dummies as much as possible
Thank you ahead of time.
PS - phone is stock on 4.1.2 rooted using CF Auto Root and that's it.
Morning bump...no quick advice?
60 readings, no one comment? "Hey, flash XXXXX and see if the display drivers come back", etc? It'll boot into flash mode, looks normal and the compputer sees it. Safe mode or normal boot give me Poltergeist and the computer wont see it so that I can try to backup everything before flashing....that's a lot of boobies pics (just trying to get some sympathy here) to have deleted
79 views...for the love of god, someone throw me a bone here. I get it, these are old phones now, these forums are full of know-it-alls who can't be bothered (devs) and "search" nazis (me being one of them) as I should just figure it out on my own...but I'm not. I've got versions of ODIN, I've got CWM Recovery files, stock MC2 and NE2 ROM's, I even found myself a PIT file. NONE OF THEM ARE WORKING. No matter which ODIN I use, they all stick at PIT regardless of whether I have re-partition checked or not. I've tried flashing PIT, CWM recovery, stock recovery, CF Auto Root and/or stock 4.1.2 - 4.4 ROM's in just about any combination of one or two together using each version of ODIN. No bueno.
I've got a very nice and thick 24/28awg cord I'm using, I can boot into dowloader mode but can not go into safe, recovery or boot normally. I've watched brick recovery videos on YouTube, I've downloaded files from here on the forums and www.galaxynote2root.com using various downloading I have included a picture of.
Someone, somethg...

Did you ever get this figured out? I'm in the same boat with the L900 Sprint Note 2...
Solved it by getting a working logic board from eBay
I broke down and bought a Note 3 off Craigslist for $300 but I'd still like to fix the Note 2 to make it into my backup instead of pulling the Epic outta the box again.
