[Q] SD Card not ready - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Most days when I unplug my DHD from the PC or laptop I get this error message and the only way to resolve it is to reset the phone. The default setting is internet pass-through for usb connections.
Mr Google & the search function at this forum do not shed any light on this issue.

Mine has also done this but not every time I unplug it. I removed the Micro SD card and the battery, put it all back together again and I've not seen this problem re appear.

Try to check for errors from the pc. That worked for me

Reset the phone? Did u mean a full wipe or just reboots.. Tried checking your pc, maybe something is scanning the sd card, and when u suddenly remove it, the card is in mounted state, hence sd card not ready..

I've had this problem, and formatting the SD card solved it.
You should try it.

memory card problem

Hello,
I have now for one week a MDA Varia V (its a brand of t-mobile, but its a copy of this phone i think...)
I have 1 problem with my memory card, he disapear most of the thime when i reading somthing from it.
So let me explain:
When i put music on my memory card true the phone and i want play the music, after some seconds/minutes the music stop playing and in the music player i get first a message that its searching, and after that i get the message that there is no music (get those message in dutch), when i go look for the memory card, they dont find the memory card.
And somthimes the same problem happend when i connect the phone to my pc and select the "hard drive" function, than i putting somthing on the memory card and suddenly the card is away, and when i transfer somthing i get the message that the hard drive is lost, or somthing.
Have sombody the same problem and know sombody a solution for this.
PS: the memory card was in the box of the phone, and i called for support to t-mobile (there always helping with phone related problems) but after on the phone for almost a hour they also dont know the problem and suggest i go search the internet if there more people with this problem and how they solved this.
Sorry for my bad english
RTFM. Your storage card will not be accessible if you connect to your PC as external drive. This is normal.

Euhm when you cant get to your storage card when you connect your pc to it, how do you put data (songs and so) on tho your card?
wat i forget to say above, when i put the card out and back in, or when i restart the phone, everything is normal again (till the problem start from the binginning)
Let me rephrase...
Your storage card is not accessible on your device if it's connected as external drive to your PC. That is, you can't see the storage card if you browse to it using file explorer on your TP2. But you can see it on your PC's file explorer.
yes thats wat i mean, i go to "my computer" i click on my phone and normaly you see 2 "drives" one with the name "/" thats your local drive and one have the name " memorycard" when i go to memorycard and want put some data on it, 9 of 10 sudenly the memorycard is gone after some thime, so the transfer is failing, when i go back to the phone i only see the "/" drive and the memorycard drive is gone, and the only solution is that i take out the memorycard out and put it back in, or to restart the phone.
Sounds like the issue is with your USB cable. Use the original HTC cable and take care to not touch your device after you plug it in. If you still have problems, then you may have to bring it in for servicing. Perhaps the device's USB slot is faulty.
that wil resolve the problem when conect to the pc, but when there is music on the card and i play it on the phone the sd card is also sudenley away. and when i place the music at the device itself isnt that problem, and i use the same (origanal) cable for this.

I did have about the same problem in that my HTC would 'lose' the card after a certain - variable - time. I did always have to open the backcover, remove and replug the card and it would work again for a certain time (sometimes some tenths of minutes, sometimes a day).
Meanwhile I found a solution that works: Advanced Configuration Tool (Freeware)
http://julien.schapman.free.fr/touchxperience/advanced-configuration-tool.php
In the 'Power Management'-section of this program I enabled the 'SD Memory power management' and since then my HTC didn't 'lose' the card again
Maybe this will help you too for your problem
When i start the program i get a error message and a text saying me that the program need a newer version of microsoft .NET compact Framework.
Where can i install this new version?
have found and installed the 35 version form the microsoft website.
after that i install the program and do the settings you told, restart the phone, but have already the same problem...

It sounds as though you have corrupt files or bad sectors on the SD Card.
Backup all data on the SD, do a full format on pc using default allocation size and copy data back.
This will resolve your issues.
Cheers,
Beasty

SD card says it still connected

Every morning when I unplug my Desire from my PC and try to play music on it, I get a message saying the SD Card is still connected and cannot be used. The only way to fix this is to turn it off and on.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Do you unmount Desie before you unplug it from PC?
No I just unplug it

Well theres you answer..
Quick way to unmount
Have you had a look on the market for USBSwitcher? Its a handy widget that you just tap once when you want to mount then tap again to unmount.
Its included in one of the ROM's im on currently but as far as i know it wouldn't require root access.
I wouldn't keep 'unplugging' without unmounting as you'll corrupt all your SD card data
Good luck

Evo thinks SD Card is connected to PC when it's not

I have a problm with my Evo as that it literally thinks its connected to a PC when it's not.
I had the phone, checked for a Astro Fime Manager for a file I placed on SD Card. When I was checking, most things appeared but when I checked other folders, like the Download folded, nothing showed in there. But I know I had files in that the folder.
I then connected the phone to my PC and without it asking me if I wanted to charge it, sync it, use it for disk drive or internet connection, it went straight to the "Use it as a disk drive" feature. Verified because soon as I plugged it into my computer, the SD Card opened on my PC.
I then clicked to have the phone just "Charging" and now I can see everything on my SD card again.
Do anyone know what this problem could be or how to fix it? I thought it was one of the SD Card Problems that was occurring to some phones. But according to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Their SD card stopped working altogether before doing the fix.
Another question about this, will "Debugging" cause this if left on? I had it one for doing the adb stuff when I rooted etc.
Turn off the auto USB switch in the settings of Double Twist.

Thank you so much!!!!! I've been wondering why it was doing this. I was about to go buy a new SD card.
Thanks again!
I had this same problem a while back. I wonder why they thought this was a useful feature. They could have just changed the default option for when you plug in the USB.

[Q] USB and SD not recognized

Need a way to access internal memory so I can fix my usb or sd card see following for information:
Short Version:
USB wont work and SD card wont work so I cannot use the following method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Long Version:
So right after i had backed up my rom i did a wipe, then the phone stopped recognizing my sd card. I took it to Sprint they couldn't figure it out, so i was stuck in Bootloader. yesterday i did a hard reset and wa-la i can now use my phone ...sorta. It will turn on I can access everything, but it freezes up and shuts off after 40 seconds (i got it to stay for 2mins one time) also it still will not recognize my sd card. I tried other cards still no luck and I know my card works because I can use it in my laptop. So i did a little searching on xda and found a fix, but i cant do the fix unless i plug my phone into the laptop and run a cmd prompt well now here is the other problem my computer sees the phone (listed as My HTC) but my phone wont recognize that it is plugged in. It will charge when it is shut off thats about it. Well back to xda and there is a fix for the usb, but.... I need my phone to recognize my sd card because the files will be on it. In short to fix my sd card i need usb and to fix the usb i need my card I am stuck in a horrible loop, so what I need is a way to access my phones internal memory so I can install the usb files on it so that i can fix usb then my card, then recover my rom.
Thanks to wall who help or at least try
Im not totally sure if this will help, but i know you can mount the sd card as usb storage in Amon_Ra and also in settings under "storage" or so i believe there are settings for mounting and unmounting the Micro Sdcard check those, it should be mounted in the settings for your phone to see it. hope i helped
I just had this exact same problem. Nandroid, wipe, flash, then stuck in bootloader spent two days trying fixes, unroot, root, and,had to turn it in. Luckily best buy has an awesome warranty.

thanks all... ended up replacing my phone, but if anyone ever finds a way to fix it let me know! Thanks again
I was really hoping that this thread would not dead-end. I've got what sounds like a similar issue...in addition to not being able to reformat my SD card (in Windows or in Android) due to it being detected as write-protected, but it's not write protected.
I'm really anxious to try the aforementioned thread to fix USB and SD, but I can't detect, mount, or format my SD card. Am I screwed?
*EDIT* Fixed the write-protection issue...working on the rest now.
*EDIT* Still can't format card through Android. Is there an ADB or fastboot command to format the SD card?

[Q] SD Card & USB problems

So...I don't know where to start.
My DHD won't read my SD card and I can't connect it to the computer as a disk drive, only for charging.
A month ago, while it could still detect the SD, the phone would open navigation every now and then. Now, when it can't detect SD card, it doesn't open the navigation thing anymore because, apparently, locations are stored on the card.
I found a thread somewhere saying that the cause for the navigation problem is dirt in the USB connector. I cleaned it, but no hope.
I tried putting in other cards, but it still can't read them. I tried a factory data reset, still the same. I can't flash a new ROM since it cant detect the SD card.
So, do you guys think it's completely dead, can it be fixed?
have you tired recovery's usb
