Trying to connect to WiFi on my home network. I just get an error. I can't even look for networks or anything. Any ideas?

What was the error? I'd try power cycling the router first and the phone 2nd.
just reboot the phone.

What the error is could help out a lot. What Kernel are you running, supposedly there are some problems with certain kernels and wifi from what I have heard/seen on this board.
Not sure what the problem was. I tried power cycling. In the end I wiped everything and restored via titanium backup.

Today I updated my ROM from LeeDroid v2.5 to v3.0.8.2. I wiped my phone first. After this I rebooted, then rebooted again into recovery and installed the recommended radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08). Then I restored my apps+dat with Titanium back up and rebooted again.
It soon became apparent that whilst mobile internet was working fine, WIFI wasn't. While my phone will connect to the router it won't connect to the internet. If I enter the local IP of my router I can browse the settings fine. I tried "forgetting" the network and re-entering security code but this still didn't work.
I restored my v2.5 nandroid backup and the internet worked fine, the radio is still 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08.
So I did a fresh install of the v3.0.8.2 ROM and tried connecting to WIFI again and again the same problem.
So my question is, is this an inherent problem with the ROM, and if so why does no one else seem to have this problem, or is it a setting issue?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also I tried changing the WIFI channel as suggested in another WIFI thread, and this didn't change anything. Except the WIFI channel obviously.
And I tried a static IP address and that didn't work either.

You try turning off router and putting back on again? I sometime's get that in my network.
Yes I tried turning my router off for a couple of minutes then switching it back on. Didn't change anything.

Did you sort it?
I think you need to wait before the router give your router assign an ip for your phone, btw, some router donot fit all phone model
Yes thanks I managed to sort it today by following this thread
Apparently the fault is inherent to Android 2.3.3 and seems to present itself mainly with Thompson routers. It was a static IP I needed, I'd not entered the details properly the first time.
Thanks for the replies!

Thats good
I had downgraded back to Stock ROM 4.1.1 everything was fine.
But the WiFi is very sketchy. It stops or times out or something all the time. I can't seem to keep the wifi on.
Is there a workaround for this. I tried the trick of *#0011# and turn the wifi power save off but it doesn't stay off after a reboot it comes right back on. So I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

Might need to update your wifi drivers.
Also could be coming from your router.
Do you know where I can get the wifi drivers? Or is it in a Kernel or something?

updated kernel would probably fix your issue. If it doesn't though, chances are that it's coming from your router or your router's settings.
I checked my router and its working fine. There is no problems with it. I am a computer technician. So I know there isn't anything wrong with it.
I have tried several kernels and they are all doing the same thing. I'm afraid I will just have to go back to an AOSP rom or something. I didn't have problems with them...
Ok so a couple of days ago I installed a 4.0 ready radio on my galaxy s2 and then went on to install Jedi Knight 6 ROM (4.0.4 and radio is UVMC6) and after installation everything was working fine.. I was messing around for a while.. it worked today, I shut my phone off to charge it up real quick, and when I turned it back on my WiFi would not connect. Well not necessarly connect.. it just wont even turn on. When I go into settings and click WiFi, it just sits there saying, Turning WiFi on, and never changes.. I can't seem to imagine what could have happened to it, and I really dont wanna have to reinstall the ROM again because i just spent hours getting this one all set up to my liking...
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: BTW, I have tried many things.. Tried airplane mode to disable everything then turn it back on, obviously tried rebooting the phone, i have tried wiping cache in CWM recovery and also tried fix permissions in recovery (another topic said to try those..)
Nothing has worked so far, i'm about to try reflashing my radio, see if that works.. but I really really dont want to have to reflash my whole ROM.. So if anyone has any other ideas please help, i'll edit if the radio works..
EDIT 2: Reflashing the radio did nothing.. it's really wierd, the data, bt, gps.. all of it works fine, it's just the WiFi that's frozen turning on... cant get it to stop turning on and can't get it to actually turn on..
EDIT Final: Ok well, i guess nobody knows what might have been going on.. so I just wound up reflashing my ROM, which obviously fixed it.. i just had to lose all that time spent setting everything up... But oh well.. Kinda sucks nobody even tried to help..

+1 I'm going through the same thing now
I have been having this same issue as well. It started out as stock happening sporadically. One thread suggested rooting and removing my account. Problem still occurring. Tried flashing multiple ROMs and now WiFi hasn't connected at all always stuck at turning on. I have tried clear cache, fix permissions, as well as reinstalling ROM dirty and with factory reset. I'm hoping this isn't hardware failure because I just bought this phone used but it seems to be a reoccurring problem with others as well. Any NEW suggestions not given from quick Google/xda search?

I'd suggest to check your Wireless Access Point (modem or router) wireless settings for security, check and see if it's set to use WPA/WPA2, which is common on some modems/routers, change it to either WPA or WPA2 (preferred) not both, it's a known issue with WiFi networks and having it set to using both, I had the same problem before with my phone connecting to my WiFi.
Also if you use MAC Address Filtering on the modem/router, you should disable/clear that and let phone re-connect before enabling mac filtering again.

The problem I am having is not that it won't connect to a particular network. Wifi will not initialize on the device at all and is stuck in "Turning On..." state. I found more and more posts where people ended up having to send in to Samsung so I spoke with them and even though I purchased the phone used its thankfully still under warranty and they will be replacing it. The did not confirm whether or not it was a true known device issue but were quick to file the exchange for me.
sigh, me too!
Just started having this problem on 4.3.1
great.
In my case, I had to wipe system and data before reinstalling my ROM.
Though the only reason it was happening to me was because Beanstalk 4.4.2 didn't want to get past the splash screen when I tried to install it so I downgraded back to ICS 4.0.4 without wiping. Good luck getting this issue fixed. Also another kernel might fix thingz for you if your current one does not like your device.
I have a similar problem. After a while, WiFi gets disconnected. If I go in settings - wifi, i get the message "unfortunately, settings has stopped" and I can't get WiFi to work again until I reboot the phone. The Wifi works again for a couple of minutes then stops.
I have flashed various different ROM (CM11, PA) but keeps getting the exact same behavior.
I've rebooted in safe mode and I don't get the problem now.
Welp here I am again. My note 3 is weird for some reason. Before I decided to flash a rom, I ran a stock rooted note 3. However, one day my school's wifi connection went haywire and it went down. After a day we discovered that the school just changed the password on the wifi. I figured the wifi password out and it didnt work. All it said was saved and secured. I am 100% sure I put in the right password because for every other student it works right now. And I know it's not the rom because this happened right before I flashed dompop. I tried using the wifi at home and at my tutoring place and they both worked. So is this a problem on their end? I also tried rebooting and forgetting the network. Also I CAN NOT REBOOT THE ROUTER because it's the schools and i might get arrested for climbing onto a desk to take the router off the ceiling LOL. Also I cant access the gateway to see if the bands that aren't working with my phone. I'm really frustrated because my peers are using the wifi and I cant even get on. Help Please

Since you did what I would suggest (forget router, and re-add) the next thing would be what you can't do. Unplug the router, and plug it back in. Maybe something in cache is stopping it. Try forgetting it again, and wipe cache, and then try it again.

Yes. I would wipe through recovery. Cleaning app cache probably wouldn't hurt either. You can either do it manually through the apps setting, or use an app itself like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.cache.cleaner
Dalvik cache or regular

Sorry. I'm pretty much out of ideas. The only thing left is flash the ROM over again. Not from scratch (this time), but just dirty flash it right over the current ROM. If that doesn't work, and without being able to reset the router, the only thing left is to format the phone, and start again from scratch, and hope that works.
Hello guys, a year ago I tried root my phone and got bricked. After 2 weeks I finally fixed and came back to the stock rom. Since that day my WiFi is not connecting.
I'm able to search and find any network, but when insert the password, the phone try to connect, the signal go down, the message "connecting" appear, and after that appear as "saved" but not connected. I already tried to define a static IP address, but didn't work.
Can I broke the wifi firmware when tried to root for the first time?
Someone have an idea on what is going on?

Follow the unbrick guide method 2. Make sure you follow it right.. Don't skip any parts because it doesn't work. Don't see how you bricked the phone by flashing SuperSU but okay..

Hmm, if that and the unbrick isn't working then you might want to ask yourself it something is broken. Does it connect to other networks?

No I ve used several different hotspots to connect. The strange thing is that mobile data are working.
hmmm take a look at this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/radio-modem-collection-flashable-zips-t3468628
If that doesn't work try to flash ex kernel if i remember it correctly it changes something with wifi to.
If that doesn't work then It's broken or you can fix it by doing something else but dont know what, Good luck
