Hello everyone,
The thing is that I live in Turkey... And bought my imate jam (Magician) from a friend who bought it abroad... And because of a new law in Turkey, all the phones that were bought abroad were closed... And there is nothing no to be done with that... Government does not help anyhow... I used that phone for more than a year but then it was just closed by our Telecom... The only way is to buy a new phone or change phones imei... I have another old phone that does not work but it was bought here and imei works fine... So I would like to change my imei of the phone... I purchased jafwm and purchased credits for unlock, but finally got to know that it does not support magician for unlock... But it can change imei on the unlocked phone... So my main problem is cid unlock... my phone is sim unlocked so there is no problem with that... Or is there any other way to restore imei of the device?
Any solution you know?
Thanks beforehand...
Magician is not supported in this release no matter if you can cid unlock your phone or not. I wrote this allrady in the manual of JAFWM Restore in the day i released it. Just download the archive unpack it and see pdf inside.

Are you planning to add Magician unlock and imei restore support? I really need my device... And do not know what to do... Any solution?

Magician...
I got really happy when I found your site... and purchased a dongle with credits... so bad it didnt work for my phone... Do you know any solution? Is there any way you could help me with that?
Please test the free alpha tool HTC IMEI Restore Wizard on the forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59081&start=25
If this tool can display your IMEI, chances are it will most probably be able to change it as well!
100% free, no dongles, no credits, no waiting...
Please don't take this - or even +
Reading IMEI is easy anyway, through some TAPI work.
google for TAPIVBEXAMPLE.zip
you can see;
Manufacturer, Model, Revision #(Radio info) , IMEI and IMSI
but writing is something different because of different chipset issues I think or u got access to
special service SD cards
IMEI/lock database
So promising ; all models with only a one tool without some codes.
Keep cool[/img]

as a real "xda developer" as you call yourself, you should know what is the difference between wizard and magician. This guy is asking for magician solution and not for wizard. If you still do not understand what i am talking about, read in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=340959&highlight=#340959 the post of mamaich, he explain very clear what is the difference between the 2 platform.

That's very funny, Raskal. My product is called the IMEI Restore Wizard. As in the Printer Installation Wizard. Or Help-Me-With-Some-Task Wizard. Such as Compression Wizard, Extraction Wizard, etc.
You're not a Windows desktop developer, so I don't expect you to be familiar with these standard naming conventions used in most Windows programs.
And I'm not surprised you made yourself look quite stupid, if you don't mind me saying so, by misunderstanding what the Wizard means in the naming of my product either! Very consistent with your overall qualifications so far.

I think you should read what I wrote in my first post. I stated that the goal for the Alpha release of the Wizard is to find out on which devices this method works on, and on which devices it fails. I know it works on HTC-Wizard, and I suspect it works on a lot of other HTC-devices.
Raskal, please keep your posts coming - I'm sure others enjoy reading them as much as I do.

instead of writing here a book about wizards, why you not simply say here what the thread starter is interested in:
Does your IMEI wizard works with a HTC WIZARD? YES or NO
I'll answer for you, it does NOT WORK, so releax and don't guess too much
mimarsinan
WHERE ARE YOU MIMARSINAN??
rascal,
sinan and I found the way to change the imei without modifying the radio rom to manipulate the developement imei in the code. (that is another way even if you dont know the checksum algorithm)
now sinan is preparing the sw to be released here for free for people who still suffer like we used to.
So, your answer is yes, the software will change the imei and the checksum without any problem on HTC wizards. without any usb dongle, without any card reader-writer or anything. just a usb-mini usb cable and the sw which is on its way here.
so, please stop argueing you 2 and let people use this program as soon as possible for free.

Is your Dash locked from T-Mobile? If so tell me the IMEI number on the back of your phone and I'll call up customer service and tell them I want to unlock the phone. I think I've been with tmobile long enough to get a free unlock.
does the code only work with the IMEI num? can u put out your IMEI number and someone use that to steal the unlock code? Can I email tmobile for the unlock number?

Just cause we have fun when someone is not taking the time to find an answer to their question, when it can take them just a couple of minutes to do so , it doesn't make us immature, is just our way to help them, to help themselves.
So guys,
As you all may know we don't have s-off for our HTC one x's so a few people have mentioned this and we decided to put this plan into action. we want to raise fund so Adam Outler can look into getting us places with the HOX. The main target will obviously be seeing how fare we can get toward s-off. please guys if you can afford to donate please eel free to give what you can and no more than you can afford.
As prices may very i think we should set the target as $?(please give me a price!)
Remember guys he or anyone cannot promise anything. i.e he may not be able to manage to get s-off, or he may not manage to be able to even change the CID, we just simply don't know what he can do but its worth him giving his time to even have a look at it for us all.
If you donate please post how much and a unique transaction id
$10 from me
The goal is near $500.
Edit:
There is something wrong with your link, you need to provide the right one.

No, this thread was created without his knowledge.
I'm having this shut down. I never spoke to the OP about this and I would always provide a secure transaction method if I were interested.
I don't know about HTC devices. I would have to learn alot about them to even start thinking about S-Off.. I've never S-Offed a single device.

Hello, a friend of mine bought a S3 from america but now lives in germany, the phone only had english, canadian and french as system languages, so i rooted it for him and installed a custom rom, carbon rom 4.2.2 and have set it on german, but whenever i insert a sim card it asks for a network code and he cant call or have 3g because he doesnt have network.
what should i try to do, change the apn settings?
i also tried editing the nv_data.bin, but since its a custom rom there is none in the root efs folder of the device, i really need help making this device working, any advice or suggestions?

Doesn't Work For AT&T SGH-I747
Hey, While you're busy being a demeaning know-it-all you should know that procedure DOESN'T work for all the Stock AT&T phones.
I have a Stock AT&T SGH-I747

I did not mis-spell that either.
It would be nice if you could help instead of acting superior.

There's no crying, I just tire of some of the brainiacs here acting superior instead of actually helping. I did see that, however I'm also not sure about how to go about doing that and "some" people suggested trying it anyway, so I did.
Everyone is aware you can go buy an unlock code for $25-$30, and it will work around all of these little roadblocks, but we're supposed to be here to help each other. So, someone much smarter than you figured out how to do this to the phone in whatever version the phones current state is.
You're just quoting other people, not offering any help
Now, if "You" are aware of a procedure to accomplish this the way the phone sits then please offer some help, otherwise Lose The Attitude and try treating people with a little respect.

Okay. I know it's asking a lot from you but let's think for a minute. Everything I have read says the phone has to be on 4.1.1. The method you are trying which is, using the dial pad to access the phone settings and not purchasing an unlock code or calling your carrier, only works for 4.1.1 which you obviously are not on currently, hence your predicament. Since you lack the skills to search and read how to downgrade, like you stated, the only other options are to purchase the code or call your carrier. He gave you all three options that work and you are saying he is useless? Your comments are the most useless comments I have read in a long time. It's like trying to make sense out of nonsense. You are asking for something that doesn't exist and it doesn't take much "intelligence" to figure that out. Good luck.

Hi Xda
I had a problem with my phone due to a invalid bootloader installed.
I took my phone to a repair shop for a Jtag service which unbricked it (yay!) but now I have no IMEI.
In phone info it says: baseband version: unknown
Is there a way to restore it ? I have a TWRP backup from before the JTag and bootloader installation
It's a Rogers phone
Thanks for help !
Resolved by installing stock firmware from sammobile
tread lightly here
Be careful about asking to repair your IMEI number around here. The moderator of this forum ("zelendel") believes that it is illegal to fix IMEI numbers.
He wrong (analysis here), but of course it's his opinion (and false facts) that will get a thread closed.

I think the mod feels that it is not illegal to fix your broken IMEI. It is illegal to change or spoof an IMEI. The moderator chooses to avoid the subject because where you have one who wants to fix, you will have another who wants to change.
In other words, a thread whose purpose is to fix a broken IMEI is likely going to be abused illegally, which is why the moderator chooses to avoid the subject altogether.

Baseband = modem, modem reads imei, try to install a modem via custom recovery if you're on AT&T or just feel like it. or if you have an I747M use Odin to flash a stock firmware of the appropriate bootloader (if you're on 4.3 use 4.3 for your carrier)
I put the AT&T part in there incase other people use the search function and find your thread.

Nonsense. We are not in Latvia, or the UK, where it actually is illegal, because IMEI blacklisting is the only tool they have against phone theft in those countries. XDA claims California as its legal jurisdiction and servers are on US soil.

Changing is "fixing". You must change it to fix it.
Someone's underlying reason for changing the number setting could be to get back to the original number, or to get around their phone service being locked to an IMEI, or privacy. But intent is moot, because there is no such law to speak of in the US. We have people making up phantom laws, and moderators being fooled into believing it because they read it in google.
The thread I pointed to made a fool of the mod. The reason the thread was closed was to stop the embarrassment. Normally if someone wants to claim that something is illegal, there is a prohibition on the Cornell law site that they can point to. The absence of a prohibition means something is legal, so normally the opposition can't show proof that something is legal. But in this case, they can, because proposals for a prohibition were raised, and then dropped. There is proof that senate bill 3186 was dropped. The creator of that bill is making another attempt, but that's all it is.. an attempt. Yet another proposal just rotting away. Senators tend not to propose prohibitions that already exist.
After s.3186 died, they tried to recycle it in s.1070. Senate bill 1070 has been sitting idle for 3/4 of a year now.
---------- Post added at 05:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:30 PM ----------
I should point out that people might want to write to their Congress person and ask them to kill senate bill 1070 (even though it looks like it's going nowhere).
At the moment, some phone providers in the US lock service plans to IMEI number, creating a need to be able to change IMEI numbers - not just for repair, but to use the phone service that's paid for. s.1070 seems to only allow changing IMEIs for "repair". And forget about privacy.. s.1070 makes no exception for those who need privacy, not to mention the environmental impact and cost of buying a new phone every time someone wants a different IMEI.
OK, redpilleatr
When I said that it is illegal to change or spoof an IMEI, I meant the moderator felt that way. I didn't say I did. I also read the bill. I see that I didn't make that clear.

Since a possible repair was not stated, and the possibility of changing existed, then yes, I see why he closed it. Not that it was necessarily the best option.

The thread I pointed to made a fool of the mod. The reason the thread was closed was to stop the embarrassment.

That might be true because at least one thread that hard to miss, showing how to inject (or fix or change) the IMEI is still open, including links to the needed files, but no talk of it or tools were allowed in that other thread.
That's all I'm going to post here in this thread, because we'll be going back and forth forever. But you did make some very good points, despite forcing me to defend myself here. And yes, those related threads "are" very interesting.

When I said that it is illegal to change or spoof an IMEI, I meant the moderator felt that way. I didn't say I did. I also read the bill. I see that I didn't make that clear.

Changing is "fixing". You must change it to fix it.

Actually it's a matter of fact. It can be tested and verified whether or not the process for changing the IMEI back to the factory one is the same process for changing it to a wholly different number that's never been used before. It is therefore a fact.
E.g. the process of changing a tire on a car is the same whether you will use the car in a drive-by shooting, or whether you will take the car grocery shopping. Intent is orthogonal to the process.
Now how do you think the process for changing an IMEI changes based on intent for changing the number?

As you point out, it's not a good idea to presume everyone has malicious intent with whatever they are doing, unless they state/prove harmless intent. It would be as if someone asks in a mechanics forum how to change their tire, and their thread gets locked because they did not state why they wanted to change the tire, so we assume they are going to use the car for vehicular homicide.
Why might you think Zelendel presumes malice? Does he close other threads where the OP does not state their intent for the fix?

The problem of locked threads is obviously as widespread as the misconception about the law. Where can people actually go to discuss how to make legal repairs to their phones? I know the mods at androidforums.com are very misinformed and abusive with their neocon-driven power. Just search "imei change site:androidforums.com" and you find a huge number of locked threads with moderators incorrectly interpreting the law (I wonder if this is where xda mods are getting the misinformation). The shame of it is that when a thread is locked, no one can go back and point out the errors because - the censorship is so strong that we lose the benefit of balanced expression.
Usenet is perhaps the only place. It's a shame that with all the facts and detailed proof staring everyone in the face, the mods are still overpowered by a "senior" mod trying to enforce a non-existent law to block users from fixing/controlling their own property.
