[Q] Would this fix my 720p lag ? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I used to be with stock froyo 2.2 on my Desire , and when i record 720p video , I didn't have any problems with playback. But recently I decided to flash RCmixHD 2.0 A2SD on my Desire ( 4GB Sd card , which comes with Desire , 512MB ext3 Partition) . It was successful , but when I play 720p recorded video , There are freezes and laggs during the playback . Also in my music player there is lag in music art covers , when i list across them . I've read many posts on how to improve some of these issues and my question is :
If I buy 8GB class 6 SD card (make bigger ext3 , ext4 and other stuffs needed for better functions of DHD OS ), flash RCSmixHD 2.0 DATA2EXT , Would playing video and other stuff be improved as I want .
Thanks Alot !!
If anyone has any solution for that problem , please share it with me . Would be very thankful !!

The faster card will improve your performance in the music player for sure.
But 720p will be laggy, because it is not working fully (have lags - but this is stated in the ROM's post). I have a class 6 card and still got lags. You just need to wait for a proper fix.

Isn't there a fix in the RCMixHD thread?
I think there is, I have downloaded and flashed and 720p is working.
Take a look at first post in the thread.

Standard roms or aosp roms (hd roms have problems with 720p, although it works now, it's still slow) with oc'ed camera chips.

With my stock froyo ROM i didn't have any troubles with 720p recording
Now im with RCmixHD 2.0 A2SD and I have freezes and lags with 720p recording.
Do you think change of my 4GB SD card ( which comes with desire ) with a 8GB Class 6 , would speed up and fix this 720p freezes and lags ?
CyanogenMod 7 and 7 (I think 6) works. There are a few other roms that work properly. And to be honest, it's not really down to your SD Card class for 720p recording. I have a class 2 card and never had any problems with it when the recording has been fine. It's down to the dev of the rom.
i've a class 10 card. i've tried hd roms, leedroid roms, now rcmix rom. but always having problem with 720p recording. with some of them, videos are only 9fps, and with others there are lags and etc. what should i do

cyanogenmod 7 does not even include 720p recording nor playback...
thought it was the speed of the sd card that causes lag in 720p recording... was planing to get a class 6 micro sd because i tried reflex gingersense and 720p was messy.. i thought it was my current class 2 card which was too slow... does not depend on class?
Im having the same problem.
What gives?
A lot of roms say "720p recording" but i cannot find a sense rom (at least froyo) that has working 720p (no lag, no out of sync, etc).
Can anyone help ?
What rom does have 720p recording working ?
So it seems that starburst classic has 720p working but it really is an unstable build.
i get fc a lot , flash is not working, market did not work last time i flashed, etc.
a lot of problems.
Did u find any other roms that have 720p working ?
I have RCMixHD v2.0 installed.
I have a class 2 16GB sd card.
The lag is no-where near the stock 2.2 rom, so It's the rom for sure!
Maybe wait for v2.1?
I looked at the bit-rate once, and it was about 1MB/s on a stock 2.2 rom, so a class 2 SD card, which can transfer a minimum of 2MB/s, should be able to do the job, right?
i have asked on numerous threads and noone ever answered! does the class of the sdcard makes difference? will a class 6 card have flawless 720p recording?? i would like someone with a class 6 card to answer plz
Ive just installed reflex s 2.1.2 lite a2sd+ and it seems 720p recording actually works very well.
I DO have class 6 16gb card.
So i guess someone with lower class card can try this rom and see if the 720p recording works, and if not, than its clear the card class is a factor.
Ps: i've reformated and repartitioned my card before flashing first ledroid 2.5.0 and then reflex s.
finally a reply! thx! but 720p recording does not work well with the class 6 card on leedroid? i have a class 2 card ans 720p recording lags a lot on leedroid froyo.
i formated the card and first installed ledroid 2.5.0 that i thought is stable and fast and has 720p (because of froyo) . but as it turns out it doesnt work ..
720p recording on leedroid froyo lags even with your class 6 card? i am disappointed... was going to buy a class 6 card and use leedroid froyo as i find it to be the fastest, most stable rom around with great battery life.
what reflex rom are you using? is it gingersense? (android 2.3)
reflex s 2.1.2 lite a2sd+ (gingersense)
android 2.3.3
With Reflex S my 720P recordings appear pretty stretched.
mine works fine.
maybe u have a lot of stuff on ur card, or maybe its slower (lower class).
when it comes to ROM it only matters if it does, or does not support 720p - check camera settings...
higher class sd card will help a bit, but wont make it great...
fact is desires camera isnt really made to work flawlessly with 720p, no matter which card or rom you have, fps will rapidly drop in low light conditions. its really a hardware limitation.
i would suggest using 480p always...

[Q] Choppy HD Video recording

Hey - on any build I've used on my G2 the video playback on PC / Phone has been choppy for HD video I've recorded. Right now I'm rocking CM 7 Nightly #25, and it's still choppy. CM 6.1 was choppy, stock rooted was choppy and the stock ROM was choppy. Now, I've replaced the phone once already. Anyone having this issue?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I filmed some skate video on the phone b4 and after root, the video didnt chop. Now it does. I was no cm7 and didnt flash with cmw 3.0. Got fcs a lot and flashed it correctly. Then thats when I got lag. Anyway I dont know but I did have kind of the same issue.
It's wild, it'll lock up for like 2 seconds - and the sound will keep going.
I also have the same problem, I believe it is because of the class of the SD card, try a class 4 or higher??
I had this issue too, many people do. I bought a class 4, 6 then 10! and they all produce the same effect!. I went and put the class 4 card in a Kodak Playsport & it's flawless... it's a hardware limitation of the phone I think with the speed it can throw the video on the SD cards I think!
I have a class 6 8GB SDCard
I have a class 10 uSD card - stock ROM - and it's choppy recording for me.
could you try this out

Interesting find indeed! I'll have to review the settings when I have a moment, and will probably give it a shot. Of course make a nandroid backup FIRST and even make a backup of that /system/etc/media_profiles.xml file, and then play around with it.
FWIW I've experienced this issue with every ROM I've had on this phone (stock, CM based, HTC Sense based, etc). I've just learned to deal with it, but maybe I won't need to anymore.

[Q] Laggy 720p Video playback in all gingrbread roms

Hello,
Guys I have an strange problem regarding 720p vedio playback (Not recording) with all the gingerbread roms with 2.1 sense. I have tried almost all the dev's rom like RCMIX,Reflex, Insertcoin so on and so fourth. But in every gingerbread rom 720p video's are laggy. When i was in froyo all the 720p movies played smoothly. I am using a class 6 micro SD card with fat32 and EXT4 partition. Plz guys help me to solve the problem becuse for one specific problem I cant use gingerbread roms.
That is a problem with all the GB ROMs... until the DEVs have a GB RUU from HTC. Maybee...
So if U use that feature a lot, dont go GB... (yet)
thanks jakedude for such a quick reply But I thought 720p video recording is a problem for gingerbread roms not playing any movie or song of 720p. And not only 720p but also 480p is also laggy. I dont know why it is occuring. I have done everything including overclock and underclocking but all of this went in vein. Someone please help
Missed u meant playing. Yes, recording is laggy, dont know about playing.
Usually The Q is about recording, so I jumped the gun. Sorry
thanks dude for helping But one thing I don't understand does Dev's know about this problem ?? Because they are saying they are designing stable rom's. But if there is problem regarding laggy video playback how can it be stable And I cant even be sure whether its a problem of my sdcard or anything else!! Hey Jake ..have u been facing problem regarding playing high resolution video(720p) on ur desire using RCMixS v2.0.1. Because same problem belongs to this rom also.plz help me out..

[Q] Video recording problem - video/audio out of sync

Hi all,
Have been using the Desire for nearly 2 years, great phone. I use the phone's Camera (Baby Photos & Videos recording) more then anything else. Enjoyed using the 720p recording when I was on Android 2.2 until the Stock 2.3 upgrade few months back. Then I found the video recording went funny, lagging, video/audio out of sync, couldn't handle 720p anymore etc.
Got very annoyed for too long so decided to root it at the weekend and try other ROMs. Tried a few and settled on the Aurora V03 which has a great camera app (w/Sense 3.0). Thought the out of sync issue went away but unfortunately it's still there. Even when I lowered the quality to 800x480, the problem still exist.
Tried the SD Card Increase from the market and tweaked it to 2048kb, same.
Thought it's software/rom related as I could record 720p no issue when I was still on 2.2
I am using Kingston Class 4 8GB card since day one. Do you know any tweak that can help me please?
Any idea is much appreciated! Don't really want to upgrade my phone just because of this.
Thanks!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
By what ive read on the forums on here this is a common problem for 2.3 on the desire. Im unsure on how exactly to solve it though. Have you tried changing the file format it records in? That helped for me
Yes I have tried both 3gpp and mp4 and they are the same. Strange that I didn't see much discussion about this. Thinking to downgrade back to 2.2..... Although don't quite wanted to.
Have you tried a faster sd card? I had similar problems when I used the class 4 that came with the phone. Now I have a class 10 playback is fine, even with full length movies and tv shows.

he is not talking about playback ,but about 720p recording...
unfortunately, there is no solution yet for that issue,no matter what ROM u try it'll still be there. 800x480 should be ok, if u're having problems, format and align ur fat32 and make sure that it's not an issue of the ROM u're using. as for 720p, as i mentioned earlier, no joy

[Q] 480p/720p smooth recording possible?

after the gingerbread official release.. thought 720p or at least 480p recording would be smooth but it's not! at 480p on my class 10 card, it freezes frequently and audio is out of sync...
my question: is there a rom now after all this time that can do proper 480p(hq) recording at least? haven't followed the roms for months now so i don't know... thought cm7 said they would add 720p to desire when the official gingerbread is out.. is there 720p on cm7 now? there no changelog whatesoever on its site...

ok thx! haven't seen that...
can't find 720p recording... will it be present?
720p won't be included as far as I know in AOSP ROMs due to driver related issues.
480p is fine in all AOSP and in Sense based custom ROMs is somewhat better.
720p is only available in Sense-based ROMs, but it is still buggy, just as you described.
I don't feel 720p laggy at all. try a good class 6 card.
TouchPal-d from my Desire running Supernova Extreme Rom - 450 apps and counting. .
ok will try extreme rom! i am on a prerooted official gingerbread and even 480p lags most of the time... there the 1-2 secs freeze and jitterring and then audio gets out of sync and i am using a kingston class 10 sd card!

I've tested more than 20 ginger roms. All of them cannot record smoothly at 720p. I think that froyo roms produce better 720p recordings. Now I'm using latest Starburst rom (froyo) and I'm quite happy , 720p recording is satisfactory and speed is better than ever (quadrant gives more than 1950 points!)
I tried so many Sense 3.5 roms. All of them has audio out of sync problem. My SD card is Team class 10. However, If I don't install any applications, there is no sync problem. I tried this on Runnymede AIO and Runnymede007. It's interesting...
In Aurora rom I have the same audio out of sync problem...not happy...even 480p has this problem

i still don't understand how droidzone managed 720p recording with no lag... can you tell us what brand is your sd card or have u installed somekind of patch or kernel? i uninstalled supernova as i had some issues recently.. i tried runnymede to get a taste of sense 3.1 but 720p and even 480p recording kind of sux
I have a 32GB class 10 card on CM7, recorded fine... smooth sound is good no problems. I run at 1.2Ghz ( stock desire 999Mhz )
I am pretty sure the smoothness of the recording is connected to the SD card one is using.
