When you hold the screen a bunch of options come up. One of them is folders. I want to pull the image for the folders out. I looked at system/app but no dice. I was wondering where i could find it and what it would be called

nvm....deleted the post...
You just want the picture of the folder icon? If I'm understanding you correct, you have to pull the launcher to your pc. Whatever launcher you're using but launcher2.apk has them. Right click it and exract the folder res/drawable-hdpi your icon is in there.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
The touchwiz folder icons are in system>app>touchwizlauncher30.apk>res>drawable-hdpi>ic_launcher_folder
ic_launcher_add_folder
ic_launcher_folder_open
ic_launcher_folder_live
The add_folder is for the icon thats in the menu>add>folder section.

Using Root Explorer or similar app you can long press on it and select "Copy" then go to system/app folder and paste it and reboot. You should be good to go

Sorry..maybe its early in the morning...but this "system app folder" exactly where is that located...i apologize...and thanks in advance?
If you open root explorer and are in the 1st level of folders (top page title is simply '/'), from there scroll to the bottom and hit 'system' (not 'sys') folder, then hit the 'app' folder. There you should copy/paste the .apk, reboot phone and the app will be installed.

Down load File Expert its free, then in settings or menu on the apply enable R/W & then when you look at your phone go in to /system/app & move or copy into there using R/W permissions ( make sure your looking in your phone & not into sd/ )

Quick Question...why do picture hide, picture vault, apps...need all those permissions?? I dont understand why they need internet access to hide pictures..anyone has an explanation? Thanks!!
If you need to hide your pr0n, you don't need those apps. Using a file manager such as ES File Explorer, create a new folder with a "." in front of it (Ex. ".Pictures"). The phone doesn't search for media in folders with a "." in front of their name. I think for ES File Explorer, you'll have to go into the settings so you can view all the folders with a "."

I believe that creating a .nomedia file in what ever folder you don't want to be scanned will do the trick also
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
You hide & secure folders with QuickPic.
It works. Like a charm. The stock my files.apk Will work also. You have to go into settings and click hidden files. And there you be. And the best part is. Most people are not tech savy so they don't know about it. I named mine. Binary. Lol

Self explanatory post.. Tried searching for info but mostly its sites telling me how to set a wallpaper.
So far every ICS rom hasn't allowed me to properly size and add a picture as a wallpaper.. So hoping there is a way I can edit something to pick a picture I want.
The pictures are perfectly sized since I've used them on GB roms.

So I found the dark side wallpaper apk. And I figure if I rename a wallpaper to match the name in the existing apk it would save me having to build from scratch while I learn how to do that.
So question is how do I insert into the apk? Do I unpack it first? Which then makes me ask how do I repack it? And can I do that all on my phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Well in my impatience I unzipped the Darkside wallpaper apk, put my pic into it and renamed the pic to match one of the existing pictures. Then I re zipper it all and renamed it from zip to apk. All inside es explorer.
Then I stuck the apk into system and it worked yay. It's ghetto but it worked until the ROMs fix wallpaper setting.

I've never tried, but I figure you would be able to just take an image and put it in the same location as the other system wallpapers? Might need to set permissions but I don't see why that wouldn't work..

Should be able to move the pics to a new folder titled ".nomedia"
Shouldn't scan that folder.
actually, I think all you need to do is create a file called .nomedia and place it into the folders you don't want the media scanner to scan.
Works great to keep the gallery from adding all of the images that Touchdown (my corporate email program) caches on the phone.
Is there a method to include folders rather than exclude -because I have way too many files from wherever that I would have to exclude with that method. Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Bump. What does "bump" mean? Does it mean 'no one is looking at my thread, hey you, will you look at my thread? Either way, hey you... kidding, but please, does anyone know of a way to choose folders for the gallery rather than choose to exclude which as I mentioned would be way to cumbersome? Thanks

Put your pics you want private in a desperate folder. Rename the folder to anything with a period in the beginning and voila!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Hiding private media isn't the issue.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
If you don't mind a 3rd party solution, get QuickPic. I seriously haven't used my stock gallery in over a year. It has the option to exclude certain folders ( and thus scan the rest of the SD card ), or include folders instead ( only scans the folders you choose ).
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my Galaxy SII.

You could also make a text file and rename it to .nomedia no name with that file extension and it will not show up, which is what quickpic does for you.

thanks. that's the solution.
edit: actually no, gallery still finds private media and now the folder just renamed with a dot in front has now disappeared.
edit: actually, there is a setting in astro to display such files, BUT then now the gallery app will display contents of private but visible folder so...

I have full stock JB 4.1.1 and I am having this strange issue: when I try to move an app icon from the app drawer into a folder on my home screen, I cannot: dragging the icon on the folder simply make all folders move around.

just wondering if i'm the only one
not normal though
Place app on the desired screen first. Double tap on an open area on that screen. Now drag the app into the folder.
I've noticed that folders and icon movement depends on how fast you drag the icon on top of each other

Its finnicky but you definitely can drag straight out of the app drawer into a folder. Just gotta move it in there quickly otherwise the phone will move the folder out of the way.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Is the folder full? I think you can only have 16 apps in a folder. If the folder is "full" then it will just move around if you try to put another app into it.
That's a new "feature" in Jellybean. A new mini-game called "chase the folder"
