Cydia type of store for Android - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A store where u can get apps n themes for rooted htc evo...sorry if this quest. was already asked
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G

There is no seperate "app store" like this for Android. Google allows apps that require root in the Market with everything else.

Just search for "root" on the android market. A bunch of root only apps will come up.

Be extremely careful when downloading apps which require root access on your phone! They can bypass normal app permissions and do all kinds of crazy things to your phone without you knowing.
Themes for Android itself cannot be found in the Market due to the fact that a theme must either be custom-made for your ROM and device, or use something like the T-Mobile/CyanogenMod 7 theme engine. Apps such as ADW do have themes in the Android Market which you can use.
You should also not use third-party Markets, as most Android malware/trojans are spread via such Markets (if not downloaded from pirate sites, of course) which have little to no oversight compared to the Android Market.

Seems like no one yet, i tried googling, but nothing came up (though it was a fast search only), But i suggest like they others to search for root in Market, and you will find a bunch

applanet is for piracy, not off-market apps. and is not reccomended.
appbrain is just the market in a different form.
android market is the place to be. it is like appstore AND cydia in one place.

use appbrain,
but i always find anything in the built-in market though
note : applanet and blapkmarket is for pirated app!!!

Better Keyboard 8 apk

I am looking for this keyboards specific .apk
I am fairly certain that I have found it online, but don't really trust the website. I have had it with every ROM that I have flashed up until RandomRom and suddenly it's no longer in the market. It's not a GB thing either because I had and used it with Anonymous i3.
I have never used app back up because often I am relieved to have a fresh start with my apps. Is there any way for me to extract it from a Nandroid backup? If there is would someone be willing to PM me and help me to figure it out? Does anybody have the app itself? Please help because I can't stand the stock keyboard or swype!
that's odd it might have been taken off the market. i had bought the better keyboard unlock key awhile ago but it's not showing in my list of purchased apps anymore.
I didn't find it when I was using the Market yesterday. I do have a backup from a few months ago though. It works perfect. I am not going to post it here...dont want a ban. That is/was a paid app. All of the skins are still on the market though. Maybe updating?? OP, PM me. Best keyboard IMO. Voice to text is unbelievable too

The Better Keyboard app was removed from the Android Market because of a violation in terms of service with the developer.

Wow, good find! Thank god for my backup! I love this keyboard. Damn, the skins are still on the Market but downloads fail. If anyone has any of the skins, can you please share them? That's not a. Violation right? They are/were free...EDIT..downloads failing due to insufficient memory and I have 2.8 gigs available. EDIT 2...ignore the previous. Skins still download. I am loading up on them in case they disappear

Updated Market

Has the New Market just been updated or have i been living under a rock?
The GUI seems improved, and i no longer seem to get any lag etc
Guessing this is to coincide with ICS perhaps somehow?!
Flake x
I just had an update for the market to 3.1.5. It's a nicer interface and seemed a bit snappier, but that may be my imagination. ICS is 3.2.0 I believe.
This Version I have is 3.3.11
Yep.. Same here.. 3.3.11

It has looked like this for awhile now. Only minor improvements were made with 3.3.11.

Interesting. Do you have a source?
What! It detects pirated apps.? Then what? What does it do then after detecting?
On Nov. 08 2011, the android market got updated .............and hence the world came to an end.
Its true about the pirated apps, the my apps screen will become blank and you cannot update your apps anymore. The online market still works though and even gives you the option to reinstall pitated apps - which does not work.

simple answer to that is don't pirate apps!!!!!
It appears that the problem on the galaxy s where some of the app images would not show when previewing is now fixed.

How Google will make a difference for paid market apps and paid non-market apps then? If i download some legit apps from for example GetJar/amazon app store/etc, Google doesn't have record for me buying this app..but still it appears in my apps list (IIRC this happens, but not 100% sure..). So if Google isn't analyzing apk file itself, its hard to believe it could work correctly..
And I also haven't seen any comments like these in other Market threads..
Removing my three unpaid apps, blackmart and clearing the data part of market solved the issue. I removed the data before, that did not help, now it did. It's strange...

Well I have also had blank white screens..just today when I tried to updater one app..came after accepting download. But it worked just fine after trying again.. And IIRC I also have had one in 'my apps' also. I'm not saying it can't be true but I need more proofs..little sceptic...

Force close app and then reopen.
Here ya go.
I'm rolling with it, got the badge for my signature and everything haha
ShadowGun is also on sale; I can confirm that it plays nicely on the Inc2 (running 7.2 kang).
I say that it seems to just be adding desktop features. So, I'll be ignoring everything except for the 50 cent apps.
Can't complain about sales...

When I force close market and then enter market again I get googles privacy notifications about google play store. But the app still says Market in the top left. The 49 cent deals are nice but I picked up most of what I wanted during the 10 cent app special several months ago.

It was like this way before for Market rentals on rooted devices, iirc.
If anyone is having trouble purchasing apps from the Android Market that you side-loaded or got from another Store (Amazon, GetJar) then you can try and use this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23356474&postcount=18
I just used this guide to purchase an app I had previously gotten for free from GetJar.
Google Play is a generically lame name. meh.
I found that their update broke the market link on my phone. workaround was to open a market link from the browser and then choose 'open with GPlay' from options.

[Tutorial] Get Back Old Google Market Permanently

Hello Friends
I don't know if someone already posted this. But I did it myself so m posting here.
First of all to get back old market you need root access on your phone. After that an app that can control system apps like link2sd or SD maid etc. Using that app find an app named "market updater". Freeze that app. Then uninstall updates of Google Play Store (updates only). That's it , now start using old Google market
If you wants to get back to Google Play Store just unfreeze the market updater app n update the market.

Before rooting my wfs when ever I open the play store and look around for any app, for many of times it shows network error, I don't know why it was happening and it also take too much time to load an app info. I have read many times on xda that old market is working good then new one so that's why I did it

This shouldn't really bother anyone. AdFree was for root users and if you know how to root there is a very good chance you will always know where to find the apk.. Now when they prevent me from loading it on my phone it'll be a problem.

This news REALLY pisses me off.
gReader is the only way I can keep up with Android Police, Android Authority, and a few other news sites. gReader being killed off is only slighly more annoying to me than Google killing off iGoogle.

Most Android adblockers modify the hosts file to do the adblocking.
Sounds like the world is ending in here...
It's really not that big of a deal >.>
Android is open. The store is not. You can do whatever with Android, you just wont be getting it from their store. I don't know why everyone is so upset.
Considering that hosts blocking only works if you have root, I really don't see how this is a problem. If you can root your phone, you can install third-party apks without an issue.
Still, a *****ly move, but Google does make all of their profits selling ads. It is probably AdBlock that killed the fun, since it semi-worked (WiFi only) for non-root users.

Call me a Devil's Advocate here, but what's the big freaking deal with ads in apps????? I mean, I do hate the ones that get pushed as fake notifications with some of the crapware you can get on the market, but I don't consider the regular ones obtrusive... And let's remember, ad revenue is the bread and butter for Google, and a lot of the developers who offer their apps for free...
here's the link for ad-away. i prefer this one since you can customize your lists easily.

I must have been under a rock (or refreshing the Macks Rom thread too often ) but I just realized that the copy of AdFree I've had installed forever was no longer functioning.
