Is there a way of creating and deploying an wp7 app that would be only available to our company agents.
As far As I understand this you can only deploy any app via the Market Place - this is useless for any internal business application.
Do I need to wait for better mobile device management or is there away around this ?
Any pointers appreciated guys.
Two ways to do it, the way I see it...
1. Add the program to marketplace, but require an registration number to be inputted in the program for it to work.
2. Side-load it

2 won't work, as it could be redistributed.
1 might, but we all know how well registration models work (cracks)
this might be a job for phone-home drm.

This would probably be the best, especially considering that your agents probably need to login anyway.
But I think that you won't pass certification if they can't test the app.
I don't know what your company does, but maybe you could release an app that is many targeted at your customers and everyone could use. This app could then have a hidden setting to enable special functions after a agent has logged in.
Microsoft are planning on supporting this in the future, their current suggestion, IIRC, is to use some sort of login though.
Do any of them work in mango? I have mango on my hd7 and focus, I did the dehydrate hack on my hd7, and the multitasking is much nicer on there. but i never did on the focus and now I can't get any of the editors to load. I have a legit dev unlocked account.
any help?
thanks.
I reverted to NoDo, applied the dehydration hack and updated again and it worked. I don't think there's another way, at least not yet.

damn, I don't wanna risk going back to nodo. I didn't save the restore info for the hd7 and i think the focus overwrote it.
Have any of you guys done two phones to mango? If so, did you save your restore data?
I think Heathcliff74 is searching for a solution His work is amazing

If you read the documentation of Mango beta, they told us many times to backup your old backup as they won't be an upgrade path from Mango beta to Mango.
How can I do the dehydrate hack on Mango with the MFG App?
EDIT: Nevermind I just did it
You can do it on an HTC using HTC connection setup and provxml similar how I unlocked mango. And apparently lg's have a built in reg editor that still works in mango.

You could add any reg edits you want into the provxml. I have developer unlock, max apps, and prevent unlock but somebody added other stuff to the provxml. The custclear.provxml will stay in the windows directory from nodo to mango. So you dont have to deploy anything during the 7401 update. Other regedits can be done after the fact with a different custclear file.
Thanks. Will have to try later.
I had to fix my live tiles. Every thing still works editing the registry via provxml... xboxmod has a thread called WP7 provxml capabilities that outlines everything. I successfully deleted two registry keys. I can post the provxml for that if anybody needs it.

That won't work, back-ups are device specific meaning your can't use a back-up from device a on device b.

Hey,
the fastest way to unlock is of course through the dev unlock tool. but that would be stupid since i guess you're not a dev.
the second, and more prevalent method to unlock right now is:
1) restore to nodo
2) do the htc connection setup + custclear.provxml method.
reeg posted a link to his thread which outlines the method a few posts back in this thread.
merry mango!
"Htc connection setup" only works on htc devices.

Samsungs have the Network Profile Tool which does basically the same thing. Only problem being is samsungs dont have access to read/write to the windows directory if Im not mistaken. If we were able to copy the provxml to the windows folder youd be able to edit the registry just like HTC Connection setup.
Heres the thread the xboxmod outlines provxml capablities and wp7. I read that a long time ago and soon as mango relocked itself on my the first time I upgraded that immediately popped in my head. If the custclear.provxml would be deleted/changed/moved during update it wouldnt work but since I still had all my apps I installed I knew it wasnt a full wipe to upgrade but more on the lines of copy and paste with overwriting what it needs to on the phone.
Anyways here the link to xboxmods thread and all the reg tweaks known to wp7.

WP7 root tools by Heathcliff74 gives full read/write access on Samsung devices. And getting the file on the phone shouldn't be a big problem (mass storage, Windows Phone Device Manager, ...)
Edit: And yhd4711499 already posted a nice tutorial:

Hey all,
Got a Dev-unlocked phone running mango, seeing the limits (3 apps, no file or registry access), I was going to roll back, find a list of apps that work, then upgrade again (mango is just awsome otherwise the new limits).
I have a CDMA phone, so some hacks don't really work as well.
So, what apps work in mango, that help access the registry, file system, extending the deployment limits, etc ? What is the process to correctly install them ?
Is there some app I should have to make sure these work and stay working with mango ?
I heard TouchXplorer works but, others to not. Does anyone know if Windows Phone Device Manager works (this seems to do almost everything here) ?
Thanks for any help here.
I see this question asked in a lot of threads but, no clear list, so I think this is needed here. Tool apps that you install in NoDo that will still work in mango...
Thanks !!

Are you able to deploy those apps while using Mango? I hear people are getting an error when trying to deploy apps that use interop. Both of those apps do, yet I can deploy them in Mango just fine, as well as any other interop apps.

As expected, it deploys, but exits shortly after trying to start, which means that the COM DLL that you are using is homebrew. Only authorized COM DLLs can be used with interop on Mango.
The most random one I got to work on my Focus is the flashlight app that uses the flash. Pretty handy so I'm glad I didn't lose it...
Now if we can only figure out a way to get accent changer to work again I'll be happy as pizza.
Did you have to do anything special to get it to work? I restored back to NODO on my developer unlocked Focus and installed it then upgraded to Mango and it does the same thing as all the other apps with interop problems. I used the samsung registry app that you posted today.

if you change your system locale under settings to English (US) it may work again. working fine here.
Tada. Here's a little stupid-simple something I made to cure my frustrations.
Whooo. New version, basically wiped up the whole post. Oops.
Anyway, here's orientation lock, an application that, well, locks your orientation. It does this by setting the accelerometer to power state D4, then back to D0 to revive it.
Using DllImport:
Code:
DllImportCaller.lib.StringIntIntCall("coredll", "SetDevicePower", "ACC1:", 1, (int)Phone.Network.WiFi.PowerState.D0);
Simple. Worked on my HD7, Lumia, and Focus. Lmk if you have any issues.
Oh, and known problem: HTC devices detect the accel sensor as active, even when it isn't. Weird. Toggling the button back and forth works, though.

Cheers!

Nah, they don't work because of other changes, but it's a good thought, and I was worried myself. Glad to see it does, though
More specifically, most homebrew interop apps don't work on Samsung Gen2 because they use OEM drivers that are specifically designed to allow apps to do high-privilege things their sandbox normally prevents. In gen2 firmware, Samsung crippled those drivers somehow, locking them down to their own apps only (bears more investigating, but that's the best explanation I've found so far).
This, on the other hand, is simply opening a driver that's built into the phone - all phones, apparently - and is an actual device driver, not a software driver intended forleaving the sandbox. Samsung can't cripple that, or it wouldn't be possible for any app to use the accelerometer. Interop unlock is still required, though - in simple terms, what ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES regulates is "Can the app open a direct handle to a driver?" and this app needs to do this.
Update for everyone:
No more interop unlock, now allows toggling. You're welcome =D

Too bad that this can't be put in the Marketplace; it's the kind of app a lot of people have been asking for. All the more reason for Microosft to provide more Chevron Labs unlock tokens, I guess...
EDIT: I guess that having the Sensors capability gives enough permissions to call SetDevicePower on it? I would have expected ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED. In any case, well done. Works on my HD7. One minor bug is that it doesn't remember or detect when disabled, so to re-enable it I have to first toggle to Disabled, then back to Enabled, because when the app is launched it *always* says Enabled. Might be an HTC firmware oddity.

Exactly. It's harmless, stays at LPC level. Wish Microsoft would let in some more /dangerous/ applications.
Awesome, good job. I've been looking for this. Works well on optimus 7
SetDevicePower really nice solution!!!
One simple fix for HTC, if they always report the accelerometer as available: can you use GetDevicePower? The method signature is the same, except the third parameter is a pointer (which .NET will see as an "out" parameter, if you declare it as such). I'm not sure if DllImport supports those, but it could be done very easily using COM.
Actually, turns out the problem is more universal than I thought. I'll find a fix for it soon, should be simple enough.
Liking this update very much Looking forward to the toggle fix.
Can anyone make a homebrew version of the 3G data usage? As in how much I use and warnings when it go over the limit. I know this is not possible on the marketplace, so can developers make this??

no i'm not a developer right now, but i read a lot and long time in this forum.. often is this question ask, therefore i know it.
the windowphone7 has public API limitations. so developers in this forum can't create that kind of app, only cell-providers. at&t (provider) has create a app for data usage counter. but i don't know, whether other cell provider has apps like this.
maybe it is possible in future..
The current windows phone SDK does not offer the ability to know anything about data usage. It can tell devs if your connected to a mobile network and that's about it ... one could write an app to know when the phone is on a mobile network and then have a background task that listens for any network traffic being used. However, listening to the traffic would probably need to be a homebrew hack to get that info and it would be quite a bit of work to accomplish this correctly.
I have heard that win phone 8 will have this built in and much more for easier data tracking and laerting the user.
Windows Phone 8 will have this built in ... but for now you should use your carrier's app if they have one
