Extended controls?? Or any 2g/3g toggle widget in the market. I use extended controls since its got lots of options.. being on 2g all day saves battery life. after 8 hours of textin at work all day I'm usually sittin around 90%..

There's a plugin for tasker/locale on the market, but it only works on Cyanogen ROMs. Lets you automatically switch based on a number of situations/triggers. Since I'm on Virtuous, I just have a toggle set for Extended Settings - saves the hassle of digging into the settings.

If you have CyanogenMod, you can put a toggleable button in your notification bar. Personally I use that, along with "SuperPower", which is a battery saver app that I use to control 2g/3g mod. I use it to automatically switch to 2g and disable data when the screens off or I'm not on wifi. And you can have a notificiation in your status bar at all times to switch between 2g and 3g if you desire too. I love it, it's my favorite app. You can find it in the market, or here on XDA. Just google "SuperPower xda"

I have a desire z and recently switched to cyanogen 6.1.1 and got the 2g toggle to work.
But i miss htc sense, is there any way to toggle 2g only using the stock htc rom?

Turning off mobile internet

My wife has a problem with her EVO. Not so much with the EVO itself, but with Sprint service.
Within the building she works, she has terrible reception. Because of this, if she leaves mobile internet enabled, after a 6 hour day, her battery will be at 30%.The battery status says that she spent 60% without signal. I did do the "trick" to change her phone from GSM to CDMA using that diag menu from the dial menu, but again, the issue with her is that when she is deep in her building, she doesn't have any reception.
And of course, if she disables mobile internet before she gets to work, her battery is just fine when she leaves work.
Now, I am aware that you can either hold down the power button and turn it off and/or go into the options and enable it. We use LauncherPro, so we lost the ability to add the HTC sense mobile internet toggle widget.
Here are a few questions:
1. Does the Locale application work on the EVO, and if so, does it allow you to turn on/off mobile internet on a CDMA phone based on your location?
2. Is there a widget for the HTC EVO that lets you turn on/off mobile internet that works if you're not using HTC sense? The few I've found don't appear to work on a CDMA phone, or had reported problems.
just out of curiosity... You can't use the power button because your launcher does not have that feature? ... or you are looking for an automated way?
Does verizon have better coverage there? You could always try using their towers.
Locale does indeed work on the Evo, however it might be because I don't have the specific plugin, but i don't see any parameters to just turn off mobile internet. I think you can alternatively turn on wifi and have it auto connect to wifi at her work if they have it, since having wifi connected turns off mobile internet.
Another alternative is settings profile, which i haven't used myself but from the description it looks like it functions like locale, but also has a widget.
Lastly, when I need to toggle mobile internet, i'm using switchpro widget, which does have a toggle for mobile internet, as well as 4g and a few other options.

How do you use their towers but wouldn't that be roaming ??
Try Timerrific. It let's you use time base profiles to enable and disable stiff and its free.
I use a widget called Dazzle.

Yes. Which is free. I do this all day every day. Where I work, service for both Sprint and Verizon suck. However I usually have one or the other and it will pick whichever one is better. Also, in the metro tunnels (subwway in Washington DC), Verizon has great service so I maintain a connection through them almost the whole way home.
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks
- Check data roaming
- Uncheck the guards and the sound
- Click Roaming and set it for automatic

Problem with advanced task killer app or son apn on off app

Why is it whenever I kill my apn on off app, it just doesn't get packet data the next time I switch it on? The g icon is there but it doesn't download packet nor does it send.

I've got the same problem here. I tried apndroid, extended controls, 3g toggle and apnswitch. It works only if I toggle off and on just seconds apart. But if I wait a few minutes or more it doesn't. I can see the H or G icon but I can't acces internet, refresh my weather widget...

For me, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't :S

[Q] how does switchpro widget disable data connections?

Hi,
been wondering about this: how does switchpro widget disable data connections?
It seems to work fine on my desire but when I go to settings I see data connection is still enabled and apn's haven't been renamed
Does it do anything in the background or am I missing a parameter?
Cheers
B
I have been trying to work out exactly what it does as well.
It certainly is not an APN re-namer like most, as this is something you can enable in switch pro's settings if you need too.
However like you said it also does not tap into the official HTC version like the sense widget, or CM6's modified power control widget.
Anybody ? I switch data connections off when I go to bed but when I unlock my phone in the morning I notice a 3g icon active (though it disables immediatly after)

i cant even enable data connection using switchpro widget - the icon lights up but nothing happens
i have to manually turn on the connection in settings
i am only able to deactivate data connection using this widget

No mobile network (3G)

Hello,
During 12AM and 7AM I noticed that the mobile network goes off. I need to open the screen and it does automatically reconnect. Is there a setting that I need to enable for the network to stay on 24 hours ? I'm using stock ROM.
Thank you.
r u using any battery saving apps like Juice Defender?
This is a built-in feature given by HTC to save power. It switches off wi-fi & data when the device is in sleep mode. You cannot change this setting in a stock ROM. you would be able to change it on a custom ROM though.

[Q] Way to remove Airplane icon?

I'm currently using my EVO 4G as a WiFi only pda, no cellular service hooked up to it.
Currently running Unofficial AOKP 4.2.2, and everything works great. To prevent battery drain while the phone is searching for a cellular signal that it's never going to use, I've got it in airplane mode, and don't plan on taking it off.
Is there a way to remove the airplane icon from notification bar, since it's always going to be there and I don't need to see it?

Some custom roms have the option to hide icons but I can't remember if that is an option in aokp. I flash roms on an EVO 4g and 3d so keeping track of which does what is hard. Look in settings for status bar and you might find an option to hide the icon.

Another option is juice* defender can disable the cell radio without touching wifi so you wouldn't need airplane mode on. Worth a shot at least

Apex launcher let's you hide the notification bar, you can still swipe down to access the notifications.
