Apologies if this has been asked before.
I have a desire originally on ornage but now unlocked and on vodafone, I wondered how ota updates work on this?
Will vodafone ota updates be picked up by this phone or will it need to be on orange for them to work. thinking of a possible 2.3 update.
Cheers

are you using a vodafone branded rom? if not no, if your using a generic htc rom then, you will get the generic ota updates, if your rooted and using a custom recovery, you can't flash ota updates though, they just fail
It is using an orange rom as only recently been unlocked, so that would mean having to put ornage sim in phone to upgrade or rooting I guess?
Do you know if an orange upgrade would re-lock the phone?

You can flash OTA updates, you just need a Goldcard. I don't know. I guess you would get Vodafone since your using their sim? I've no idea, it's a weird one. If your fully up to date with the stock ROM then it will take ages for 2.3 to come out anyway or at least another update.
If you're using an Orange ROM then the Orange OTAs will continue to come through. The phone just checks Google's update server - the fact you're using a Vodafone SIM is irrelevent as that's not what dictates the update
Cheers that would seem sensible thanks

Hi I have a Branded Desire from T-Mobile and I need some help. I have been reading the forums but I am still confused.
I want to get the update Froyo onto my phone.
What do I need to do? Do I need to root it? Or flash it? Or just unlock it?
Thank you for your help

Debrand it to a stock ROM and do OTA updates. Use the goldcard when doing updates though just to be safe (made during debrand process)

Guys, i'm not an Android newbie but never flashed ROM's etc - could I have a bit of help pls?
I've got a Vodafone ROM, going to debrand my Desire, using a Goldcard and then install the generic 2.1 sense ROM and then request OTA update. Got that whole process figured out etc
What I want to do is backup everything first. I'm not rooted and i'm going to use the 30 day trial of mybackup to backup data. I want to backup my apps too if possible - am i right in thinking Astro have a program to go this?
Will it all be fine to do backups to my SD first, create a goldcard on another SD, flash the other sense ROM, then update to froyo and then finally take out the goldcard, put the other SD back in and restore everything?
Any help would be appreciated pls!
After debranding you can sign in to the android market and download the apps again from the downloads option.

When you say debrand ... what is that? Rooting? or Unlocking? Sorry for the noobness!
Is there a reliable guide to debrand my Desire. Mine is also Vodafone locked:
HBOOT-0.80.0000
I don't know how to find my rom version. I really would like froyo soon, thanks!
Hi mine is branded to 02 only with the splash screen and unlocked, I found a Stock rom called
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865
If i put this on and then checked for updates would this allow me to update to Froyo 2.2????
Any help would be greatfulllllllllllllll

Debranding is flashing the phone to a stock ROM which doesn't have any network branding. It doesn't unlock the phone to use on other networks. If your phone is locked to a network you could always buy a code from eBay to unlock it.

Yes it should work. I use a WWE ROM as it has more languages and apps available for it. It also worked just fine for me on the OTA update.

Has anyone got any newbie tips that i should be aware of.
Hopefully should be able to download the froyo OTA then.

I've heard the Desire becomes simlocked after a debranded using a goldcard?
Hey guys
So I've been reading forums and websites for a long time now and haven'f been able to fix this.
I have a T-Mobile branded Desire with a Golden Card. I flashed a RUU from shipped-roms.com, then rooted (unrevoked3) it. After a while I removed the rooting with unrevoked3 and flashed a new fresh RUU.
Now the problem is: even thou my Desire does download OTA updates, when booting into update it aborts the procedure with status 7, because my ro.cid still is T-Mobilized.
What did I do wrong?
How can I make it update normally as a generic (unbranded) Desire?
You can't run the OTA on a debranded handset, seems Google changed something in the update ZIP. You'll have to flash the RUU to get it. I assume you're trying to get 2.29.405.5?

How can I change the ro.cid prop or where is it located?
That's the one, but why do you need to change that file?
EDIT: You can't change the CID of your phone. Seems Google have changed the OTA updates so you might have to flash the RUU every time a new one is out. We won't know until a new update is released
Thank you for your quick reply.
So if I'm getting this right there is no way to actually really permanently debrand an HTC Desire?
How about rooting and disabling signature verification, would that enable me to install the OTA?

No. Never, I repeat: NEVER ota-update a custom Rom! You can either flash a close-to-stock custom rom (and then NOT install ota-update!!), maybe flash one based on the newest htc-rom, so you are not tempted to install the ota update, or install the ruu of the branded stock rom you bought your phone with and wait for the update to appear.

Thank you for making that clear. I'm really a n00b on this topic. Thanks for all your help. I'm trying to understand,
So an UNbranded (from factory) and a DEbranded (by me) phone still have differences?
On what kind of phone (branded, unbranded or debranded) would the OTA just work normally?
unbranded would get updates from HTC, branded from the operator, debranded either OTA (if they work in future) or RUUs
Hi, i've found this post and I'd like to know if there's a way to change everything in a operator branded desire to appear an unbranded one and get OTA from HTC?
Gold card should do it but other than that no
Hello people.
An android newbie here. I have beem doing quite a bit of reading on this forum, but this is my first time posting. I have looked around all over the place and I have reached a point where I am confused of how to go about the task I am wanting to accomplish. Here goes:
I bought a desire HD on vodafone last week, it had 1.75.161.2 firmware on it. I stumbled across these forums and decided to flash a custom ROM (Leedroid). I was successful a this task, but now i have a charging problem with my phone. If i understand correctly, my warranty is void with a custom ROM, so I would like to know how i could get back to my stock Vodafone ROM (1.75.161.2), also with the branded vodafone logo that used to appear before i flashed to custom ROM.
Again, sorry if there is stuff about this posted elsewhere, I have been reading, but i am really confused.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
You have to run a RUU if you want to return to stock.
I don't have any links to official RUUs atm, but check the threads in the android developement section. There should be one with vodafone branding

Any help for me to receive these OTA updates?

I think 1.75 was pulled by HTC at the same time as the 1.72 update, due to some major bugs.

Anothe DHD noob question here. I bought a DHD off eBay and I know it is locked to Vodafone, but I'm not sure if it's branded. If I don't get the Vodafone logo when I switch it on does that mean it's not branded?
Check the firmwareversion. If it's like 1.32.405.3 it's unbranded. The important part is .405. That means that it's unbranded.

It's 1.72.405.3

Yes, you need to downgrade it to 1.32. But you don't need to create a gold card

Hi, I've the same problem, I need to get back to voda 1.75
First of all, did you used hboot S-OFF or radio S-OFF ?? Because if you used hboot you won't be able to recover the original boot to S-ON and your phone will be out of warranty regardless of the ROM it has installed.
As I understand it, if you've flashed the 1.39 branded RUU back to the phone that should've give you the stock vodafone recovery wich is what is needed in order to get Voda Branded OTA updates, am I right?
So I don't get why aren't you receiving the 1.75 OTA, do you have superCID?
Anyone knows if there is a 1.75 Voda RUU available somewhere to flash manually?

Hi.
Looks like we're stuck in the same boat! I have reflashed the original radio and the original hboot. Also put my cid to stock (VODAP001), and turned radio s-on. Reflashed clockworkmod recovery to original stock recovery, got the phone back to 100% the way it was when I took it out of the box, yet still I cannot get the OTA update to 1.75.161.2
I'm on 1.39.161.1, stock Vodafone UK firmware. I followed a guide off another forum (german forum) nd thanks to Google translator I managed to follow the steps. But still stuck at the OTA issue.
yep, so it seems.
Could you post the link to that thread on the german forum?
Thanks

Hi guys,
Sorry to dig this one up but I've hit a bit of a snag with my phone and could do with some assistance.
I got the phone originally with a Vodafone ROM and decided to debrand it to a plain HTC ROM - 1.72 using a de-brand pack I got from Fonefunshop. It appears that based on the fact the phone still has a Vodafone serial number but a HTC ROM I cannot receive OTA updates (I want Gingerbread ) then I need to revert back to stock. Ironically Vodafone released 2.3 earlier than HTC which was annoying to say the least.
I've been hunting round for the stock Vodafone RUU for 1.36 but I don't know if I can downgrade for starters, nor can I find any Vodafone RUU files anywhere including on here nor on Stock-ROM's.
Can anyone give me some help with this?
When I bought my phone from Vodafone on contract in November it came unbranded and unlocked. Nothing to do with Vodafone at all, apart from the CID. So if you just flash back to the stock 1.32 ROM and change the CID to the Vodafone one which I think is VODA_0001 (Dont quote me on that, its off the top of my head but there is a thread here somewhere that has it in), then make your phone S-on to get the updates.
That way you will be completely stock.
I'm in the same boat too
Flashed the non-branded software when I got the phone last year. Now I can't get the OTA update to 2.3.
Does anyone have a link the the stock 1.32 ROM and also a guide on how to change the CID and to make the phone S-on to get the updates?
Thanks
Lee

Help from international or Aussie users welcomed. I'm using Telstra prepaid and my phone is unlocked (purchased from Kogan) I'm wondering why I can't get the Jelly Bean update, my phone is not rooted. I have tried to manually check for updates, but to no avail. It's kind of fustrating not being able to get the update, I believe it's due to carrier? Telstra doesn't have HTC, but I believe I should have got over the air update at least? I'm not sure what else to do, wait it out? or just better off rooting my phone? which of course would erase my data and i have to do all backups etc.
Anyone can assist/help me on this, it would be great.
Update is released in batches, might need to wait some more. Personally, I would root and install custom ROM, can't stand stock software. But might lose warranty.

Well you certainly did read the OP's post.....
He said he purchased it online on Kogan, which means that it's unbranded. Also, his CID indicates that it's unbranded. And lastly, Telstra only sells One XLs. :silly:
@OP, your carrier shouldn't matter since your phone is unbranded.
JB updates are rolled out via imei. There are plenty of very good ICS custom roms to choose from if you cannot wait, I'm sure you will find one that will suit.

Hmm so it's rolled out through CID, I read mine is European CID (not 100% sure) and that hasn't been rolled out yet in that region. I guess I have to wait longer, is there a way to check when they would roll out or is just a waiting game?

I read that for Unlocked edition of M8 lollipop update with sense 6 already started rolling out. I have orange branded Polish phone with 3.33.69.1 compilation(android 4.4.4, kernel 3-4.0-g07962b9). I would like to change to official non-branded rom and then update to lollipop. You need to wait for an OTA Update to LP Firmware with a LP update with it.
Otherwise you'd need to S-Off. Pay up the $25, and S-Off. You'll have every firmware prior to release and be able to update.

From my experience Orange is very slow with allowing over the air updates, and I would prefer not to wait.
S-Off is achieved by using Sunshine, and Sunshine costs 25$, right? Once I do that I'll be able to change firmware, from what I gather.
The only thing I don't know is - where to get official HTC one m8 rom with no branding. I would like 100% legal way to get official non-orange m8 firmware. For example HTC site offering firmware updates to use with SD cards? Also, do I need to change CID? Wouldn't I just need to unlock bootloader trough htcdev and then install other firmware?
