[Q] disable buttons to wake screen? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to keep all the buttons from waking the phone?
And only the power button wakes the screen...
Can't find it anywhere, settings or apps. Thank you!

What are you using?

3g slide, CM7 nightly

Yeah, I'm having that issue too. I don't think ALL the kinks are worked out yet.
I'm sure the customizations will come soon, maybe once we have a nice RC or Stable.

it isnt all the buttons tho.. for me its only
Menu
and
power

There are settings in CM settings to allow certain buttons to wake.

Mine doesn't seem to care whether I check them or not.

I don't think that there's a way to disable the menu key wake in CM 6 or 7 for the slide
A bit annoying for sure but a minor issue.

I thought it worked on 6, but then again... I don't remember pressing Menu anyways.

Thank you.
I don't have that, or anything, under accessibility settings.
AFAIK, only CyanogenMod (and CM-based ROMs) will carry that setting. I haven't seen it in Sense or Ruby.
THANK YOU!!!
I too enabled this feature thinking it would be really nice. But I soon found that if you put the phone on speaker and have one of those auto-select prompts when you call a company and the screen times out you are basically screwed because you can't get the screen to come back. Pushing the power button ends the call.
I was running a Cognition Rom.
Adjusting your volume didn't wake your screen?

[Q] Any application out there that can wake desire hd using the volume button?

Hi guys, as above. Without rooting, using stock rom other than using WidgetLocker.
Thanks in advance.
Try " Nolock "
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Widgetlocker!!
It allows you to put apps and Widgets on your lockscreen and various settings to wake your phone like from the volume button. Really a very good app for me personal.

WidgetLocker is good but somehow it always lag on my phone whenever I try to slide to unlock. Very sad though.

I just tried this application but somehow, it totally disables the locking screen which is what I want, just that I want my volume button to wake up the phone that's all. Any applications that can do that?
Test "Tap Tap App".
This application unlocks the screen using the proximity sensor.
And blocks the screen using a widget, an icon in the status bar, or the same sensor.
Any application that uses the volume button to do so?
I like tap tap app. Works flawless

I just wonder whether the tap tap app would wear down the proximity sensor a lot faster because it's always on.

Contrary to popular believe, (electronic) hardware does not 'wear down'. It works or does not work.
AFAIK, the proximity sensor is always on anyways.

Not Always On. But if you're worried, do not use. I am concerned the on / off button.

It's not always on. And if it doesn't wear down, we live in a perfect world and have no need of maintenance. But it's possible that the "wear-down" speed is close to negligible. The Tap Tap App itself has an option for turning off the proximity sensor (which is nice, but I haven't yet tested exactly how long "a short time" is).

Yea, I know, I uninstalled it already. The on/off button on the contrary, is designed to be pressed all the time. I've used several HTC phones in the past, and none of them had button problems even after years of use.

[Q] Unlocking without power button?

Would it ever be possible to unlock or wake the phone up without pressing the power button? I think it may be impossible because the touch sensitivity turns off when the screen is off. Unless there is an app for the volume button to act as a "wake up".
what i did was: disableed auto-lock with "no lock" app and installed "lockbot" for a custom lockscreen...
so, i can 'wake' the phone with volume controls, because in the end, it was not locked at all...
regards!
That's a good idea. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks!
Would still like to hear any other suggestions too.

You can use widgetlocker or tap tap app
widget locker has options to wake the screen using volume buttons and add custom widgets to the lockscreen.
tap tap app uses the proximity senser if you tap or swipe your finger twice across the sensor the screen will awake but sometimes this app can be a battery drainer due to the sensore being awake all the time.

i'll try widget locker, but i need to say, in my test i noticed that was not so good; really battery drainer, and work when it wants, should be called as: tap tap tap tap tap! =o)
the main benefit of staying with no lock screen is kill that weird screen "slide to answer/deny" from sense... that thing makes my life miserable, i ALWAYS deny when i'm trying get my phone out of the pocket... really annoying

Yeah, getting mixed reviews in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732986&page=84
oh man, it came out wrong: widget locker i need to test, and i don't know if it's bad or good... tap tap tap is the battery drainer and works badly...
and by the way, i'm usin cm7, and just configure "long-press search key" to open an app that locks the phone... so i don't use power button to lock or unlock! =oP

Yeah that's why I asked this question. Maybe because it's a new phone and I like to play around with it. And I check the time a lot too. Can't wait til my watch comes!
i tested widget locker, it's what i was looking for... really worth to buy! just mark "easy wake" and the problem is solved, the app is really great, developer made a great job with a tutorial, battery drain cautions, customizations. I'm still testing, but what i see until now i liked. And btw, it has a great function: "hide incoming calls" that cover the original sense 'incoming call' screen with prevents accidental answers/deny that i talked about!
forget what i said before, you should test it! =o)

+1 to that. I bought it too thiago, loving it atm. Definitely worth the $2. Saves me worrying about my power button.
I have the app icon on my home screen, when I press it, the screen locks. I want the screen to turn off straight away. How do I do that?
Teslacoil did say battery was something that he takes in to consideration, hope it doesn't drain much.
in my tests i couldn't see any problem with battery draining. But a i need to look a little further.
about lock and turn off immediately the screen, i use "screen off and lock", it is free (but has a donate version). I put it in my 'long-press' search button, so i can lock easily!
I think I'll refrain from getting another app. I set the screen off option to 10s.
well, i don't think it is possible to turn off the screen by the app! i guess it is the only lack. gonna mail the developer, maybe it can be changed!
You can use widgetsoid it is a free app which you can make many toggle widgets with I use this to lock my screen you can make the widget invisible so if you got a colourful homescreen it won't mess it up

hi im using cm7 too.. i get how you can lock your screen with the long press search key.. but how do you wake up your dhd without the power button?
oh also.. i tried this: http://www.appbrain.com/app/proximity-screen-off/com.itsme4ucz.screenoff
works 90% of the time! p.s. make sure you read up on how to uninstall it!

i just mark the "easy wake mode" and wake by pressing volume button. I'm not a huge fan of those apps that use the proximity sensor to wake up or get the screen off, imo, seems like the sensor stays always on, what may cause batteryd rain... i confirmed it on "tap tap tap", witch is a nice idea, but in my testes, it helps to drain battery faster than usual...
i will try the app you suggested!! =oP

Lock screen shortcut

Hey guys...
Just wanted to post this little find. I haven't seen it posted before, so I apologise if I missed that thread...
Try this...
Open an application with the settings button in the bottom corner.
Switch off screen
Switch on screen
Do you have the settings button in the same corner? Press it... screen unlocks
Shortcut or flaw?

The online kitchen over at MoDaCo has an option to disable 'menu key unlock'. I'm assuming this is referring to this issue (if it is an issue) but I may be wrong.

Did you also notice that you can access the notification bar from the lock screen?
Can't be a feature, surely?

That is actually a feature. Quite useful if you don't have a pattern/pin/face lock setup.

Can someone explain what the purpose of the settings button is in this context? Is it just another way to unlock the screen? Why does it only appear in the given scenario?
Also, why do the back and home buttons appear when you drag down the notifications bar?
They do not appear to be functional, but can be pressed. I suppose the back button makes sense, as it dismisses the notification panel, but the home button does not appear to be functional.
I opened facebook, the menu button was there. I turned off screen, then turned it back on. the menu button was there on my lock screen but when I pushed it, nothing happened. phone did not unlock. I use pattern unlock.

More than likely, the menu button being on the lock screen is just a glitch that really shouldn't be there. The good news is that if you have a lock other than the slide lock (Pattern, Password, Pin, Face) the the menu button on screen does nothing.
It's already been reported to google as a bug. It only happens if you have an insecure lock method (swipe, or none).

Wake up lag, or is it just me?

My phone takes like 1 second to wake up. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I got used to the instantaneous wake ups with my old SGS3 and I thought this phone would be snapier.
Anyone else?

yeah when you first get your phone and you press home it doesnt go directly to home, it waits a second or two for the second click to activate s-voice but if you disable it (s voice < google search) it will go directly to home

I've noticed my phone doing the same thing. If it's a couple minutes in between turning the screen on it takes a second. My phone also seems to struggle with some simple transition animations, now.

No this fixes a separate issue. This fixes the home button lag when using it to go from an app to the home screen.
What the OP is talking about is the delay that you get when trying to wake up the phone, whether it be with the home button or the side button. This seems like a software issue that hopefully Tmobile/Samsung address.

That's weird because I don't experience this issue. There is no lag when I wake up my phone.
However, my phone is the international version so most likely the issue is related to Tmobile bloatware.
Try to disable Svoice home button first. If you still experience this issue, then you should wait for update

It is not the "SVoice solution related problem". It is a "power/home button to turn on" issue which is totally different.
Every T-Mobile Note 2 has it (I tested it on several of them at the T-Mobile store).

Nice, although i turned back on ripple effect. And the thing I noticed is that if you just turn off and on the screen it takes a while longer. However, if you just turn off the screen, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on, it's much faster.
