cant format ext partition - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
i cant format my ext 3 partition from clockworkmod recovery. when ever i try it says
"error mounting ext partition skipping format" someone got any ideas

Try to repartiton/format your SD card, using partiton managers (GParted worked best for me).

im having a hard time upgrading from ext3 to ex4....
everytime i try to do something after upgrading from ext4 it tell me it cant mount the sd-ext partition
but everything works fine in ext3, im using gparted btw

[Q] A2SD+ mounting sdcard in windows

right so i have now formated my sdcard with an ext4 partition and a fat32 and it works quite well but i cant seem to mount the sdcard in windows so i can transfer files over to the fat32 partition, it works tho in linux on my laptop so what am i doing wrong :| ?
Did u format it by yourself ? I used ROM manager to create ext3 partitions and no problem with windows, it just doesn't see ext partitions which is normal.
Is your FAT32 partition the first partition on your SD card, or did you create the EXT partition first?
Regards,
Dave
fat is first but it seems after a phone reboot it works in windows again :S

EXT partitions hate me...

I've been trying tirelessly to get darktremor a2sd to work on my phone for a month. I've tried using AmonRa partitioning to ext3 and ext4, I've tried manually partitioning, I've made sure the ROMs support it, I've done everything. Except partitioning through Linux (Ubuntu). Today I noticed that when I try to mount the ext partition, whether ext3 or 4, in CWM or AmonRa, it says it can't mount the mmcblk1p2 (no such file). But when I run the check in Terminal for a2sd, it says it recognizes the ext but can't mount it. So I tried partitioning through ubuntu, sure enough I format improperly (don't know how) and now the card is unrecognizable by my phone, ubuntu and windows 7, meaning I can't properly format it.
So, if anyone can fill me in on why this just doesn't seem to work for me, please let me know what I'm doing wrong. i just want some damn apps2sd and a functioning ext partition.

D2EXT partitioning issues!

hi! this is really doing my head in.
I have a 16gb card, im using gpart on ubuntu to partition the card as follows:
fat32: 13.53
ext4: 1
ext4: 299mib
swap: 108mib
after my phone doesnt recognise it, i cant turn the phone on, i cant flash anything in recovery because of an "e can't mount" error.
when i plug it into windows it says it need to be formatted, and if i go to disk manager and try formatting the fat32 part it ends up formatting the 1gb ext4 so when i set everything up on my phone i only have 1gb sdcard space!!
if anyone can let me know why this is all happenning i would greatly appreciate it! is there something im missing in the process?
thanks.
EDIT: the system does boot but it says i have a blank sd
then i get a notification saying: UIDs on the system are inonsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable.
with a button that says: i'm feeling lucky :L
You only need 2 partitions. 1 extra and 1 fat32. Fat32 needs to be the first primary partition and extra needs to be the second primary partition. You don't need a swap either. You could just boot into recovery and do it in there but that's only ext3 but you could still use gparted to upgrade it to ext4.

Just partition it in recovery to fat + 1ext partitions, then download SD align tool from Baadnewz blog which will align ext partition and will convert it to ext4

Remove Ext2 partition from sd card

I have done a lot of searching and i cant seem to find out how to remove the ext2 partition and get all my space back to fat32. I've tried every partition tool under the sun. Acronis, sd formatter, partition wizard, from windows, from recovery all of them. I can only see the fat32 i have and not the ext2 i made. None of the programs see this partition so cant remove it. Any idea what i can do about this

[Q] s2e cant find my sd-ext partition

i formatted my sdcard then i made and sd-ext partition trough cwm 5.0.2.6
and s2e cant seem to find it.
cwm creates a corrupted ext-sd partition, if you are on windows use the minitool partition wizard, or if you're in linux, and already have the corrupted partition use gparted to fix the errors, or create the partition again.
Had told you already.
Dont create the same threads when it is answered

using px-recovery 0.3.6....
formatted my ext4 partition using that and its now the only time that my s2e sd-ext doesn't corrupt.
it corrupted even when my ext4 was formatted using minitool...

Px is based on CWM. Do U use CM9?
no...cm7.2
Well, everytime cwm formated the ext4 ext-sd it was corrupted for me... And I used gparted to fix it... When I used minitool to create the partition it also worked well.... Did you activate the ext4 setting in s2e?
Install a SD card/disk tool, s2e uses FreeSpace. It will display if your partion is well formatted or not. Also you can try mounting sd-ext in recovery, if it doesn't mount, it's corrupted. But the best solution is of course using Partition Mini.
