I saw anothee thread solving this problem but can't find it. It would not start tethering and would not connect back to my own wifi. How do I solve this?

I had trouble with the one from the market but it works fine now with 2.0.8
just google "wireless tether"
it'll be the first result
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046764 There ya go, or can try the latest wireless tether app.
Worked great, thanks my friends.

Glad that it was able to help man.
I have a different problem now, I can tether but the hot spot does not show up. I tried to doing it over and over, didn't work. I'm not sure if it's the version of the wireless tether or the files that I put into it android.tether
Anyone have a solution?

If you see post 8, i uploaded a zip file with the .bin file inside it; some where having trouble changing the extension in the OP file; extract the file, then try the steps again.
On my Sprint Galaxy Nexus when I first got it the stock wifi tethering setting worked on my stock ICS. Later on I found that it just doesn't work anymore. It will activate and appear to be working and let my laptop connect but the 3G will go away like they have some kind of built in checker.
I did some research and found out that they might have a checking system set up. Well I found out you can still use apps like Foxfi which is great but I was just wondering if there was a stock work around.
They even blocked Foxfi from the market place but you can go to there main site and download it from there.
I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and what kind of solutions do they use.
Right now I am using Foxfi which works perfect but I read that you can use a widget like switch pro and create a toggle to switch the portable wifi hot spot without it going through the check.
I do not want to use USB only prefer hot spot.
So please let me know all of your guys types of solutions.

Well obviously the wifi tether built in is something your supposed to pay for. For stock no, there are no mods.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
I thought it was just weird because it worked at first but now it doesn't the stock version. Maybe because my phone was just still getting set up. Foxfi works for me great because I like to have hot spot but I hear PDA Net still works as well for USB Tethering.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Does your Sprint tether work or do you have to use FoxFi?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Just root it and tether it up
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
It probably worked because they hadn't yet blocked it for you. Then you tried to use it and they did block it.

Have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658288
I unlocked the bootloader, booted to TWRP Recovery without flashing it and flashed the tether zip. Keeps your phone stock and unlocks the built in tether. You don't even have to root.
What program do you use to unlock the boot loader or flash the roms?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
How in the world did you boot into TWRP without flashing it? That might not be rooted but seems like you have to flash a rom.

Do what everyone else does....
Root it (you really need to to install any decent app).
Install wireless tether from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Always install the newest one posted (yes it's beta, but it's rock solid stable).
Which program do you use to flash things? Qdl tool or is that old school? I know there is a power house program for the Nexus but I forgot what it is its on my home computer am I out of town.
So you are saying you have to at least flash the recovery but not the from so its still a little more than FoxFi.
What's a quick step by step process because its been a while since I have flashed things. I use to flash my dell streak all the time until I got my Nexus which I love.
Why did you decide to flash? Is not FoxFi good enough and simple enough?

You just have to be rooted and then install wireless tether.
It will prompt you to allow super user access on first start, allow it and tick the "always allow this action" box.
It's bomb proof....been using it for years on numerous different phones....and numerous different carriers (sprint included).
clockworkmod tether is another no root required tether app.

I use Chrome browser on my laptop, and change the user agent to the same as the phone (there's a Chrome app). No problems tethering...
Is that USB or Hot Spot?

Looks like FoxFi is still the easiest solution.

Just got my Galaxy S3 today and upgraded from mytouch 4g, im on t-mobile's 4g prepaid plan with unlimted everything (5gig 4g data). on my mytouch i didnt need to pay for tethering service but now im trying to connect my itouch to my wifi hotspot on the s3 and it doesnt work.....would anyone happen to know a workaround or fix for this??
p.s. im not paying tmobile for tethering service
Thanks all
Its working for me. I thought the 5GB plan included the T-Mobile HotSpot app, the guy at the store this morning offered me a 2GB plan for $20 or a $35 5GB plan with tethering.
Thinking you probably need root.

This worked for me. I had downloaded the wifi tether w/ root, but I couldn't get it to work off the bat. The missing thing was changing the profile to "generic ics-profile". Using a stock rooted Tmobile SGS3 T999.

You have to change your user agent on the PC side. I reccomend Firefox with the add on called "user agent switcher". No matter what don't use internet explorer, immediate giveaway.
Here's my current one as an example:
Mozilla/5.0 Linux U Android 4.0.4 en-us Galaxy Nexus Build/IMM76I CyanogenMod-9 AppleWebKit/534.30 KHTML, like Gecko Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30
Here an example of what will get ur ass redirected to the tmo up sell page:
IE 7 ? Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)2011-10-16 20:20:09
Hope this helps

If all else fails you could also use PdaNet and use the "hide tether usage" option.
Try using Firefox. Works for me even when Chrome redirects.

You should search the AOKP thread to see what people are reporting. I remember some people saying it had to be set on WAP2 but a search will get you more info.
i just checked Q&A on the aokp thread and it is stated as a known bug ,, wifi tethering is not working , it says bluetooth tethering is working so I guess if we want to use tasks's rom we have to live with that. ,, who know's , maybe there will be a fix in future builds .
Awsome rom none the less!!!!!

Here's a preemptive answer to a question that's been asked countless times about this ROM- "How do I change the battery icon?"
Assuming you installed OGBatteryMod, tap on the battery icon in your status bar 3 times and you'll be presented with a list of many icons and can make your selection there.

Treve mod has a native framework tether option but you would still have to use the app to tether. I will look into it first thing in the morning. There's really no reason for it not to work right after you flash the ROM. I use treve mod but the native method also works. The only difference between your plan and mine is that I have true unlimited. That means that I have support for 2gigs of hotspot and unlimited data. The modded tethering provision.apk from TheSickness is working right out of the box for me. I can use the hotspot as much as I need.
BTW. On chrome you can change your user agent under developer tools. Look here http://www.technipages.com/google-chrome-change-user-agent-string

This is what I would try next if I was having your problem. I would save the tethering provision.apk from v4 to my SD card. Then I would flash v8 again and once it boots up I would replace the v8 tethering provision.apk with v4 and set permissions to rw- r-- r--. It's definitely worth a try. I wouldn't be surprised if it works!

OK. Download es file manager if you don't already have it and give it root access. Go to system/app and copy the tethering provision.apk and paste it somewhere where it will be easy for you to find it. Like the download folder. Then flash v8 and open es file manager go to system/app again and delete tethering provision.apk. now go to wherever you saved the v4 apk and copy it then paste it in system/app. Long press on the apk and click on properties. Then just change permissions to rw- r-- r-- and reboot. You should be able to tether now.
