an interesting question - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

yesterday i used htc desire and htc desire z.but i saw amazingly speed difference on their internet speed.desire z was faster than desire.both mobiles were brand new and upgraded.i wonder why?is it the reason that desire z has 1.5 gb internal storage or something else.i think desiree must be more faster because it has 1ghz processor am i wrong?

The desire z has a 2nd gen processor ... so even though its only 800mhz it will be as fast if not maybe abit faster than the original desires 1ghz 1st gen snapdragon processor.

in your opinion only!
i have played around with the desire Z also, and compared to my desire, it was quicker but not noticeable enough that i was jealous.
I think the main draw over the desire is the keyboard, and to some that is a hinderance as it weighs nearly 1/3 more for it.

[Q] What is difference between Wildfire and Wildfire "s"

I am from India,I am about to purchase Wildfire but just saw a new mobile from Htc called Wildfire S launched along with Desire S.So I just wanted to confirm is their any difference in 2 phones?
Currently I'm with HTC Gene since last 3 years and now really want to upgrade. Will Wildfire be a good option? I read that both having same resolution but will it affect? also is there any phone from HTC in same budget having "front camera"?
I shall be highly obliged if I get any response from you guys!
Regards,
Adi
adwaitk007 the main differences between "our" wildfire and the S are the higher screen resolution and the slightly faster processor. Both of these are very good reasons to buy the S since the "old" wildfire does have a problem there.
However.... For its price there are really good phones out there offering way more than the wildfire S. I dont know which phones are available in india or if you're restricted by a certain carrier but it would be best to make a list of phones around the pricerange of the wildfire and compare their specs against each other. Once you get down to a couple of devices search these forums for problems and or advantages of each device... If you still end up wanting a wildfire... Go for the S
wildfire S just like Aria in wildfire case. Of course, with new sense.
You may want to survey about rooting phone with new hboot if u plan to root it later.
Wildfire versus Wildfire S
Hi. I have been wondering what the main difference is between the Wildfire and Wildfire S too. I have a Wildfire and am based in the UK, not sure whether to upgrade to the new phone.

Hi! nice to here from you. I am also planning to buy Wildfire. i just wanted to know if it's a cool phone or not? the reviews at HTC portal pleased me but still wanted to confirm if it works as they mentioned or not! Also wanted to know about the apps, themes, games, such things. whether they are available in good verity? Because I heard that the phone has low resolution so the apps will be less in numbers!
Your reply will surly help me! And yes still wondering about the difference between "S"
Friends i am also a user of wildfire but i would strictly advice you to go for Samsung galaxy ace which is available at the same cost and is really worth every penny u spend and can also be rooted has froyo out of box and is expected to get gingerbread love. has 800Mhz CPU with a adreno gpu so graphics is no problem. and even the screen resolution is HVGA definitely better than wildfire. I wish i had waited for one more month then i could have got this better phone..the only advantage wildfire enjoys is sense interface and nothing else. Had purchased this wildfire in january so cant update right now...but if had the opputunity i would have definately gone for Ace. Both phones are currently available in India within price range of Rs. 13500-15000 Hit thanks if you like my advice

Wait for the S. App / Game compatibility of the Wildfire is very less because of the QVGA Screen, so, half the apps doesn't show up at all. Also, there is no GPU in it, so, any intensive game won't work at all, or, will play like a slideshow.
Since the Wildfire S is close to release, and, fixes both the above deficiencies (It has a HVGA 480x320 Screen, a faster and newer MSM 7227 600 MHz CPU, and an Adreno 200 GPU (Which, incidentally, is the same as the one in the Desire)), it should certainly be worth waiting for it.
Sum up of differences between Wildfire and S for those that are still confused:
* Wildfire S is slightly smaller than the Wildfire, because, it does not have the optical trackpad.
* The resolution of the S if greater than the Wildfire. (480x320 vs 320x240)
* The CPU of the S is newer and faster (Qualcomm MSM 7227 at 600 MHz vs MSM 7225 at 528 MHz)
* The S has a GPU Chipset. (Qualcomm Adreno 200, Wildfire doesnt have one)

hey newbie. do u know the process of rooting android phone. ROOTING and then INSTALLING CUSTOM RECOVERY makes users to boost their android phone performance with custom roms. i doubt u havent understood what i said.
first learn something about rooting and custom roms. or else u will regret for what u have done. wildfire and wildfire s and all the newer htc devices are having greater security on the bootloader which makes them almost impossible to root. what u r planning to purchase device comes under POOR ROOT category.
check this out. it helps u a lot.

check out this gsmarena link of the original wildfire.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_wildfire-3337.php
it says that the original wildfire has adreno 200 GPU. it also says that the original wildfire has gorilla glass display.
i was checking the gsmarena website from past 2 years. regarding wildfire i was checking the specifications regularly. i can say confidentially that those 2 features adreno gpu and gorilla glass display were added later to the specifications in that website. can u explain the reason
and if u see this link below, u will be really shocked to see HTC GOOGLE NEXUS ONE getting a multi touch input method via firmware upgrade.

can someone explain those things

It's wrong. That is the spec of the Wildfire S. If you check the Wildfire S at GSMArena, there is no mention of a GPU there. So, I believe they have mixed it up. Also, if HTC had added these 2 MAJOR features to the Wildfire at the end of its life, surely there would have been SOME official announcement from them.
If the Wildfire had an Adreno 200, it would be compatible with all 3D Games, and, even Non 3D Games like Angry Birds would run flawlessly on the Stock ROM, which obviously doesn't happen. Even Quadrant, a CPU and GPU Benchmark, fails on the Wildfire, which wouldn't happen if the Wildfire had a GPU.
Oh, and even the Xperia X10 received Multi Touch via a Firmware Update. The digitizer had the capabilities, but, somehow, these companies chose not to implement them. (In case of the X10, it was because of lack of support on Donut)

[Q] Is the G2/Desire Z the same hardware as the Desire S?

I was looking in the Desire S forums and noticed that there are roms that say they work for the Desire Z, but aren't in our forums. Which brings me to the question on the Desire Z vs Desire S (yes I know we have a keyboard). But is the rest of the phone the same? Are the boot.img the same? Can a Desire S ROM even boot on our device or does it the phone get bricked. Also what other phones are close and what makes them different.
thanks.
It's very similar but not exactly the same. Check out the differences:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=2598&id2=2771&id3=2596&del_id=2598
The MSM8255 is exactly the same as MSM7230, just running at 1024 MHz rather than 800 MHz. The Desire S also has 768 MB of RAM vs 512 MB on the Desire-Z, and has DDR2 RAM vs regular DDR RAM.
The Desire S looks almost identical specs-wise to the Desire HD, which our device gets plenty of ports from (since the chipsets are the same, as mentioned above).

Desire X or HTC One V better specs for gaming ??

Hi guys i am pretty confused about the new desire x phone release till this time One V was the one for me after extensive research but now am pretty perplexed as to whic h would be better for gaming as well as decent battery(i.e atleast a day on moderate usage).
am pretty unsure as Desire x seems awesome compared to one v but the gpu seems sad
my main requirements are :
720p video playback
casual gaming(temple run,cut the rope,etc) along with ocassional fps(nova,shadowgun)
good battery life as already said(atleast a day)
fast for basic operations eg messaging etc
not really big on multitasking max three apps.
thank you.
All except the gpu is in favor of Desire X. Especially 4 inch screen, dual core and RAM. Battery though touted higher capacity than oneV, real-life usage depends lot on other things since it will have to cater to a powerful processor and bigger screen area. I expect the battery life may be comparable between both and just like the oneV, desireX will give more than a days battery backup for an average user ( i easily get about 2 days on OneV). I cannot tell difference between the GPU though.

that the problem for me so am confused as to how the gaming performance may be affected and also the ability of the phone to play hd videos.
Desire X is better than htc one V it has dual core and i think a bit more ram as one v
One V records 720 p videos really good sound and video quality
Desire X can take 800x480p videos but i dont know how the quality of the sound and video is
Every day usage one V is very good up to 2 days
Desire X half to one day
Htc one V is for gaming a little bit laggy but its ok adreno 205
Desire X is better for gaming andreno 200
Gpu from one v is better than desire X
My tipp buy a desire X htc will definitly bring a update to take 720p videos if not the developers are here in the xda forum xdd
Correct me if i said something wrong

I would wait for a review with benchmarks.
Comparing the two spec wise: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4951&idPhone2=4575
The Desire X has more memory and has a compass and it's dual core.
The One V has better camera (at least on the software side - no 720p video recording) and a better GPU.
Also, the CPU in the X is based on an older ARM spec than the One V, so performance per core is probably lower (but I haven't seen comparative benchmarks yet).
It would be better to wait till the release of desire X, if you can.
Two benefits, one you get to know the exact features - mostly phones differ much from what is leaked out before launch. Video recording and such are software enhancements over capable hardware and may suddenly appear in the retail edition even if not on preview sets. (Recall the big discussions on oneV not having an FM radio!)
Second- you get some serious benchmarks and user inputs as guardianpt pointed out. Better than to feel sorry later, right? So my advice - hold your decision
Thank you
I think i need to delay my decision by a few months i suppose though .
and i thank you all for helping out in this confusion.

Well, anandtech says adreno 203 for the Desire X, and did not have good things to say about it.
One thing I purchased the One V for to replace my Desire was the screen, same size but way brighter and more vivid. This is thanks to the scld versus slcd 2. The Desire X saved on cost by going with the older slcd as opposed to the One V's slcd 2. I will wait for anandtech's review before saying it with authority.......but right now I am willing to bet our One V's screen kills the Desire X.
The screen is the thing you spend 100% of your time looking at on a smartphone (brilliant deduction.....I know!) so I wouldn't want to go with a lessor screen.
Personaly, better build (the One V really is a successor to the legend), better screen, better gpu, I am definately NOT regretting my one V purchase.
Edit: here is a quote from Anandtech:
"it has a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play inside. Unlike the Snapdragon S4 SoC we're familiar with, the 28 nanometer model with a pair of 1.5 GHz Krait cores and an Adreno 225 graphics processor, the S4 Play (MSM8x25) is a 45 nanometer SoC that uses a pair of 1 GHz ARM Cortex A5 cores and Adreno 203 graphics. Performance wise, ARM says that a Cortex A5 can deliver 1.57 DMIPS/MHz. To put that into some perspective, the Cortex A8 delivers 2.0 DMIPS/MHz, and the Cortex A9 that's inside many of today's devices can pump out 2.50 DMIPS/MHz. Update: The HTC Desire X has shown up in RightWare's Powerboard, confirming MSM8225. Qualcomm's Krait core can do 3.30 DMIPS/MHz, more than double the performance of ARM's Cortex A5."
So, there you have it, 45nm process cortex A5.............this is not the S4 you have been looking for!

The S2 processor is the scorpion family, and is capable of 2.1 dmips / mhz. This is per clock speed, running at 1.0 ghz.
For example, the G2 uses a scorpion S2 at 800mhz, the dmips would then be 80%, the max speed of the scorpion is 1.4ghz (as found in the lumina 900) so the speed would increase. The S3 and up allowed dual core and upgraded to the adreno 220. The S3 is still scorpion though, so an dual core S3 at 1.4ghz each would be capable of (2.1*1.4*2) or 5.88 dmips
Anandtech is very respected, if they say the Desire X has a crappy underperforming processor.....then it does! It will probably be fine with dual cores and driving the same resolution on a larger screen. For me, I am very happy with my One V purchase. The Desire X makes too many comprimises.

Dont know why people saying gaming is not possible with desire x, they´re lying (sure this issnt TEGRA but very good for this price, trust me!)
just my 5 cents
EDIT: I got Sensation too, Sensation is also Good for gaming but i did not notice any difference between this devices...(performance wise, the desire is a smoother in my opinion)

[Q] HTC One V [vs] HTC Desire VC

So I'm planning to buy a new phone. And this time I've decided on HTC. But I can't choose between HTC Desire VC or the HTC One V. Which one is better? Both have similar specs but the HTC Desire VC is priced little higher which is not the problem. I'm not able to decide which one to buy. Need some expert recommendations!
This will also happen to be my first Android experience.

Thanks for the comparison up there. The One V has a single core processor yet it is better for gaming? How?
This will be my first Android phone, I'll generally use the phone for applications and few games. Not hardcore gaming like Shadowgun etc, but maybe Real Racing 2 kinda stuff.
Moreover I want a phone that is eligible for a Jelly Bean update in the future. I'm not sure if the HTC Desire V/VC is eligble for an update yet. I don't want to be stuck with a phone that can't be updated from ICS.
Also What do you guys think about the Samsung Galaxy S Advance? In comparison to the HTC One V and Desire V/VC

Go for HTC One V
ONE V
I would consider the One V any day.
Better design, sleeker, better QUALITY (SLCD 2) Display, better processor, better GPU, better recording (HD vs WVGA). And last but not the least.. Chin. :good:
One V because now moving on JB, the importance of a better GPU in Android world will become more and more mandatory.
one v is not very good for gaming..well, for games like temple run and angry birds etc it works fine. if anyone wants to play games like blood and glory and frontline commando, custom firmware must be installed; on stock its just slow and laggy. phone warms up very much while playing games and using the internet. when u get a one v,its true potential should be unlocked by rooting, then gaming is more fun.i have experimented o much with my one v, it has not once posed a problem... love my one v.....

[Q] Desire vs Desire Z?

Hi.
I want to buy cheap used phone for min. 1 year. The phone must be able to support stable ICS/JB ROM or has many custom ROMs. It would be great, if the battery last good. I see that Desire and Desire Z are quite good for my expectations, but there're few diffrences.
Desire Z's CPU has almost same performance as Desire, but uses less power.
Desire Z's GPU is a way better than Desire's (Adreno 200 vs Adreno 205).
Desire has AMOLED which uses more energy.
Which do you prefer for me?
Desire Z is better. Even if the processor is 800 mhz, is part of the second generation of snapdragon, so also the gpu is better (adreno 200 against adreno 205). Regarding display, it's very difficult to find an AMOLED display on Desire, since it is only on the first generation (dating back almost two years ago), the second generation instead is equipped with a SLCD display (which is basically the same as the desire z for depth of the blacks and contrasts). Desire Z also has a convenient physical qwerty keyboard
