I've always had this problem since I can remember and it seems to only happen with sense roms as far as Iknow but randomly on the notification bar the little sync icon will appear and stay there unless I goto accounts and sync and hit cancel sync. The thing is nothing is actually syncing. It just randomly does it
Its something minor and small but very annoying, does anyone else get this and know how to fix it?
Settings>Accounts/Sync> and uncheck the auto-sync option. Should fix ya right up.

I keep noticing that under accounts, my google account sync options keep turning up on the "off" setting. Meaning I miss gmails, etc. which are normally push notified.
I am pretty sure I've turned it "on" several times already.
Anyone else?
Are you sure you don't use apps like Tasker, or Phone Weaver? You might have told such an app to kill sync.
Nope. None of the above!
I'm wondering if the phone loses connectivity, ICS shuts off account sync. But then connectivity is re-established, maybe it doesn't turn on? Or, not immediately at least.
HAHAHAHA. Wow. Just figured it out.
On the power widget, I thought the circular arrows were for auto-rotate. Which I wanted off.
They are for SYNC.
So yes, sync was randomly turning itself off. Because I turned it off manually.
LOL!

Thanks! I was wondering why it was doing that on my Nexus 7. In the wi-fi section theres something called a WPS Push button and when i was looking at my shortcuts and saw the sync arrow on I mistook it for the WPS thing and kept pushing it off and then wondering why sync kept going off. Feel silly now.
I'm running Calkulin's E4GT v2.5, and have noticed that gmail is not background sync'ing and alerting like it used to ( no idea how long its been not doing it ). I made sure background data and auto-sync are on, but it seems gmail only 'sync's when i hit the power button to check to see why i havent gotten any notifications.. then within a second or two, it does the notification thing.
Any idea how I might fix this?
I just moved to my S3 from my E4GT. I loaded all my programs and now I get this random notification tone every so often. It could happen at different times, 15 minutes, 1 minute, 18 minutes between each tone. The thing that is driving me crazy is it doesn't have any icon in the task bar letting me know what program is doing this. I have checked through every program that I can think of and none of them has this particular tone and I know they all have a task bar icon. The newest app I installed around this time was Falcon For Twitter, but I have put it silent notifications and also changed the tone and it appears it is not from this app.
Ugh, I don't want to uninstall one app at a time, but it might come to that.
what does the tone sound like?
Turn off Auto-Sync for a while and see if that stops it. It seems like I heard a similar sound when I first installed this ROM, but I always turn auto sync off to save battery and I haven't heard it since.
Did you check the email app?
Of it only happens on WiFi check to see if you have the box labeled check for internet connection under advanced in wifi, if your internet drops I.e. still connected but it doesn't have and download it will alert you

I finally found it. When Yahoo mail updated it turned on notifications. I thought I shut it off but it only turned off the visual notification not the audio.
I can't find any reference to this happening to anyone else, but I'm getting very frustrated with the Facebook app. I explicitly changed the notification settings to never vibrate, and only notify me for messages, not for anything else.
Inevitably what happens is, a few days later, it vibrates out of nowhere with a notification for something that isn't a message. I open the app, look into Settings and everything has a checkmark again (including Vibrate and all of the things I don't want to be notified about). I have to fix the settings roughly three times a week.
Does anyone else experience this?
I'm wondering if maybe the best solution is just to download Facebook Messenger and then use the Jelly Bean option to ban the Facebook app proper from sending me any notifications at all.
Just recently I looked at my accounts and I found out nothing was syncing. It was working perfectly before but now there's not even an option to automatically sync. I can only do "touch to sync", there isn't an option to check mark anymore. I've tried looking around but it seems no one is having the same problem as me.
Not had that problem so far. Maybe someone will reply.
I found out the problem. Turns out my sync was disabled even though I haven't ever touched it.
I had to add the sync button to my notification drawer to turn it back on.
