1. I want to have a themed widget locker screen, i followed the guide here on xda and i have pretty much everything, im trying to do the root explorer method but when i change the permissions of the apk they just go back so i cant change the data.
2. I want the htc sense live wall paper, but im running cm7 so it seems that i cant flash the wallpaper. any solutions, or any other cool ambient, nice looking wallpapers?

Regarding your first question: is Root Explorer having root permissions (superuser)? Did you enable read / write permissions in Root Explorer?
Regards,
Becksman

What do you mean by you can't change the data? Modifying the permissions is the last step in the process, so what data are you trying to change? Also note, using the Root Explorer method will result in WidgetLocker messing up on the next reboot (see the warning in the modded WidgetLocker thread's first post). You might also want to try searching through that thread for help (lots of people seem to have problems with the Root Explorer method---you're more likely to find a solution in the actual modding thread than a phone-specific thread).

Anyway to get rid of the clear boxes surrounding the application icons without root? I think it's ugly and it bothers me...
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I was going to try to remove them with NinjaMorph from Stericson, but the phone just reboots during initial checks. I am running slidemeroot2.
Its in the htc resources apk ..you have to be rooted because its a system file
or you can edit one of the themes, resign the apk and install on your phone

they are called Containers. they are located in themes under drawable-land and drawable-port
3 files in each folder
Dude you mind posting the signed apk with out them? I can't find my folder with my signing tool. I'm searching for what I used to use on the forums. Also I'm guessing to install you did it with adb install (or did you push) to system/app? ..mounted in recovery of course
you can download slidemeroot5 from eugene. her already removed bubbls in this build
I'd say your best bet without root would be to try adw launcher or launcher pro. probably the easiest route, anyway.
Like Mayormullet said, LauncherPro will do just want you want and give you a more useful menu bar. I can't live without it.
ADW will too, but I didn't like it as much.

Need some help with installing theme and lockscreen

I have managed to finally root my evo 2.2 with unrevoked3 and i am a noob i was into apple, i knew a lot about jailbreaking etc. but android is much better.(my opinion) i am trying to install MattedBlues-V1_3-CM6.0.0-Sept12 and i really want to have the normal android lock "Flan" but i cant seem to find it. I have tried Lockbot but i didnt like it at all because i have the overclocked widget and it lags for lockbot. i want to see what the message says if i get on at the lockscreen or a missed call etc.. i know i will be getting a lot of criticism because i do admit i am a noob to android world. i am learning. so i give myself credit for that.
please any help/directions would be really helpful
thank you xda forums
your friend,
Ninja25.
First. to use a theme you flash it jsut like a rom (except you dont need to preform a wipe for most themes). you jsut place it on your sd card go to recovery and flash.
for the vanilla lock bar. The easiest way i have found is to use root explorer or titanium back up or even adb to remove htcLockScreen.apk from your system folder. then reboot the phone. as a warning if you use alarms you will run into problems using the HTCWorldCLock.
hope that helps some

[Q] How to Install a Transparent Genie Widget?

I just purchased Launcher Pro and am having a lot of fun customizing my phone. I thought I would never want to give up stock Sense, but I am really liking a lot of the versatility and widgets that Launcher Pro offers now.
Anyway, I have a couple of transparent apks of the Google News and Weather genie widget. I tried to installing them with a ES File Manager (the app was signed), but I was unable to. I'm guessing this is because the Genie App is considered a system app now?
What are my options and what do I need to do? Do I need to root to remove the stock genie widget first? If so, how would I do that? I'd prefer to not have a different rom if possible, and would just like to get rid of the current genie app and install the transparent one.
Thanks for the help, guys. This transparent widget is literally the last piece to my new and improved homescreen.
I answered this question and have posted a file for this in another thread. Please search first.

I did read through that entire thread (assuming we are talking about the same one) before I posted, but I was hoping for a slightly more detailed breakdown on the best way to do this since I am pretty lost when it comes to rooting/adb pushing and all that.
Well, I just learned I won't be able to do this for the time being anyway since I have the newest OTA and it apparently doesn't play nice with unRevoked.
Anyway, here is what I was going to do:
1. Root with unRevoked.
2. Move/Remove stock Genie Widget app with adb commands.
3. Run signed transparent Genie Widget apk with file explorer app.
Does this sound like it will work?
You will definitely need root to do this.
1)The first step is to root your phone
2)Make sure the GenieWidget apk you are using is NOT SIGNED. System apps aren't signed.
3)You don't need to remove the old one, the new GenieWidget.apk will overwrite it when you adb push it. The commands you should use are:
adb remount (this remounts system as writable)
adb push GenieWidget.apk /system/app
4)reboot your phone
I just did this exact thing earlier today (i.e. install clear GenieWidget, I've been rooted for awhile). Let me know if you run into any issues.
Don't mind me hijacking the thread for a quick question.
I'm using HTC Desire (unrooted) and I had Genie.apk installed quite some time ago. Thing is, I just found out recently that after installation, it's become a system app which is refusing to uninstall.
So my question is: if I wanted to get a transparent/semi-transparent version via installation of a modded Genie.apk, is rooting the only way to achieve it?
Thanks!

[Q] little help here

this is an edit of my OP as I figured there's no need to go opening a million threads for my questions. I use the slimbean rom, and while I love it, the lockscreen isn't something to write home about. I've tried the holo locker which I think is great, but it always crashes and I get a *application has been killed* message every few unlocks throwing me back into the default locker. does anybody know of a good locker that works as well as the holo locker or a way to stop holo crashing on me
root explorer is great. long press inside root explorer and there is a permissions option right there. dont have to click properties

what am asking for has probably been asked a million times, so please bear with me. I was trying to change my stock messanging app to this one I found here.. he thread starter says that you simply copy it in system and change permissions. sounded easy enough, so I went ahead and downloaded it. I just can't for the life of me figure out how to get the permissions. i've tried three different explorers (es explorer 3.1, OI explorer & root browser) but to no avail. what am I missing? as allthe tutorials say hit properties then permission.
and yes,my device is rooted

Help renaming system files

Hey first post and maybe a noob question but I have a rooted international m8 on o2.
I'm trying to rename the htclockscreen.apk in the system/priv-apps as I've seen doing this enables the stock aosp lock screen. Every time I do it superuser access is given but upon a reboot or refresh the filename is back to the original. The same happened when trying to rename the boot animation files.
Ive tried both root explorer and es. Anyone any ideas?
You have to mount /system as writable before you make any changes.
I believe in ES it's somewhere under Tools.
Thanks for the quick reply, just had a look under tools and can't see any option for that.
I think you turn Root Explorer on...
It's less than intuitive in es (which I don't use), but each good file manager has an option to mount system rw.

Thanks I found that, although that was already on and upon rename it says successful but it keeps just changing back. Same with root browser. Both get granted superuser.
Edit: I think this might b because I'm still S-On?

If you were S-OFF I would have suggested this thread where they give the commands to mount the /system partition but it was also mentioned later on in that thread that it "resets" after every reboot so...
Else you can probably check if this Kernel Module works for you.
I've just 'S-Off'd my device and it has solved the problem
Thanks for your help guys

Cool, Congrats and I'm glad to "hear" then :good:
Since your S-OFF you can probably look into this thread as well to get rid of that pesky "Tampered" banner in bootloader.
The fun things we can do... :good:
