Enabling fastboot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I have pvt eng s-off so that means I can do fast boot, how can I enable this feature. I go to hboot and choose fastboot and it turns red but when I reboot it takes like 19 seconds. Is that what fastboot is or is it that I am doing some thing wrong I noticed a guy in youtube his boots in like 3 seconds thanks in advance for any help given.

The stock ROM boots slowly, the video you saw was either someone running a custom ROM or the HTC video of the Desire Z.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

LOLL fastboot in development terms is a function to do stuff directly from the computer.
The speedy boot-up is a Sense-exclusive feature. I doubt it's called 'fastboot'.

Yep i knew fastboot was to work from the computer, but is there such a thing fom cm roms.

As was stated before, fastboot is actually a protocol for flashing images to your phone without a full OS load.
With HTC Sense, they support a hibernation-type feature the many refer to as "fast boot" (note the space). There were tons of articles/videos a while ago showing that the CM team had ported the hibernation functionality and would include it in CM6.1 final, though this obviously didn't happen. I didn't keep up with it though, since it wasn't a feature I would ever use...
Maybe someone else knows why the changes were not committed though.

That explains it thanks for the info

You can't select recovery from the fastboot menu by pushing up or down on the volume bar?
edit: maybe the battery is bad???
Or maybe a defective/stuck volume down button?
And you also said you since got it booting but then said you can't do anything but get into fastboot? Does that mean you didn't actually get it booting? And if you did get it booting at some point, how?
I got it to boot up with ruu but always says error 156 then phone will boot up. I was able to perm root with s off and flash clockwork mod. Then flashed the rooted deodexed ota. But if i turn phone off it goes straight into fastboot and cant choose anything. Buttons dont work. I do have adb.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
i'm still confused here..
HOW did you get the rom flashed, CAN YOU BOOT TO RECOVERY?
I can get into clockwork mod recovery
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
The buttons all work fine when phone is on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
but i thought you couldnt get the phone on....
okay so, everytime you do WHAT the phone boots into fastboot mode? everytime you reboot from recovery? every time you reboot from a rom? every time you pull out the battery and put it back in.
PLEASE BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE
When are the errors you are seeign showing up? are they in recovery/fastboot? can you flash roms from recovery? what happens when you reboot it from there etc....
When you turn the phone off, pull battery, or phone dies it wont turn on. If i use piwer button It goes into fastboot and no buttons will work. I get it to boot with either adb or when i plug in the charger i dobt press anything and clock work mod will come up and and let me reboot. It reboots fine uf i use reboot. I have cm6 installed on it now.

password on clockwork recovery

How do i put a password or lock on recovery so someone cant get in and wipe data without my authorization....
Unless the app was written to allow password(which it isn't) it won't work.
Why would someone want to get into your phone and wipe data??
Just use screenlock so no one but you can access your phone

Yea what app is it, I use cerberus and it is about the only option it doesn't allow. Also a password is a great way to prevent this anyway this coups be added? I use 4ext recovery this sounds like a great idea for the next version
actually cerberus has a flashable zip for rooted phones. go to there website and look under FAQs, download it then flash it via 4ext or cwm and viola its stuck in the system

Right they should put the option of making a password on recovery 4ext it'd be nice to know one can't wipe all of ur data if ur phone is lost or stolen that ur tracking app can't be wiped out

Very valid point about the wiping everything off the phone. Got me to thinking so I popped over to the 4EXT thread and asked about a password option. We'll see what madmaxx has to say.
Edit-->so he got right back and asked why since whoever would still havee access to the bootloader anyway... :/

well if you were that paranoid about it, you could chuck a ship hboot in there, so that they can't flash a new recovery. use misc_version to set your main version to over 9000, so that no one can flash a stock rom. set S-On once you have a custom rom set up how you like, etc.

My HTC desire Z is supporting most of the roms I wipe/factory reset, superwipe+ext before installing any Rom mine is running dz hboot and not g2 and everything is doing good . but the problem is that After installing any rom & installation of softwares when I try to restart my phone after my phone keeps on rebooting again and again and it does not go inside the operating system and then I need to flash the same rom or different rom again plz help... I'm new to this rooting and things....

Superwipe is a good idea so I'm glad your @ least doing this, it may be easier to help if you give more info, is this happening from the very first custom rom, after root? What method did you use to root? Can you write down everything on bootloader screen (mostly want to know ship soff or eng soff) can you name your recovery? Can you name the roms you have tried?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Glad U're helping me sir. This problem is there from the day I rooted and installed my first rom cyanogen mod 7 Actually mine is ship s- off, I used the wiki.cyanogen g2rooting guide and another one for getting sd card golden. First I used clockwork mod recovery now I'm using the latest in 4ext recovery. Now I'm currently using andromadus mimicry 1.5.0 its working perfectly with many softwares until I restart if I do 'hot reboot' no problem occurs
These are the list of roms I tried and problem starts wen I restart or switch off my mobile and then switch on:
1.andromadus audacity beta5
2.cyanogen mod rc9.0
3.Android_SpeedDaemon_Fantasia_v1.0.0_vision
4. G2slim1.6
5. MikRunny-v1.0-DeOdex-signed
6. RCMix.Energized.7.26.2012.Fixed.Kernel_Ver2
7. Strawmetal-1.Mi.V2.0
8. sensewich1
And many others too
Plz help!

Well you are best to get true s-off with an engineering spl. I assume you either missed a step in the guide you followed or you went with the official htc unlocked bootloader. Either way you can fix this, and I suggest you do
Pretty much you need to relock the bootloader, then downgrade, reroot and flash the eng hboot along with everything else.
The best guides to follow to root and soff are
Cyanogen wiki
Xda wiki
Strawmetals pdf guide.
You can google search these easy or if I get a minute then ill link you. But first you need to relock your bootloader
I believe it is something like
Fastboot oem lock bootloader
I can't recall of hand but nipqer has a guide on this
If I get some time ill get you links, but for now just search a bit and read up, good luck!

Sir can I use this for re locking bootloader?
www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Just boot into fastboot mode
Type fastboot devices, if you see yours then proceed
fastboot oem lock
Now do
fastboot reboot-bootloader
This should bring you back to hboot, if it says ship s-on then your good and you can proceed to root and gain true s-off
If you continue to have trouble log onto freenode irc #g2root, just google it if you can't find it, there is a link in the xda wiki for rooting the vision

**Stuck in Bootloops, Cant Pass the HTC welcome Screen
ok, calm down, everyone has this problem while flashing, i get it so many times, they can cause by the following reasons
bad flash
wrong rom
you forgot to flash the kernel
wrong kernel
messed up the order in flashing
ok,
1.Bad flash-this occurs if the .zip file is corrupted
solution:= re flash the ROM, if still no, download the file again and try
2.wrong ROM- u may have downloaded a ROM that is not for ur device or a ROM which is of not ur description
for example u might me a PRIMO C device/CDMA and u downloaded a PRIMO U/GSM ROM
3.Wrong Kernel-Kernel is the link between ur software and hardware, if u flash the wrong one like the case mentioned above , download the correct one and re flash
4.[ FLASHING YOUR KERNEL SHOULD BE THE LAST STEP][UNLESS U HAVE A S-OFF DEVICE]

flashing a kernel should be the 1st step mate.. soo u can directly go into recovery after kernel flashing and then proceed with rom and gapps flashing... how on earth are you supposed to go to fastboot from recovery ehh? 1st booting than fukn waiting on the boot screen...
all this voids if u use twrp still.. flashing kernel 1st is highly recommended always and everywhere

I hope I get a fairly quick response to this Followed some advide in that thread, flashed a kernel (I thought) using the All In One Tool, ever since, I've been stuck in a bootloop. Obviously I have access to my bootloader and TWRP (thankfully). My recovery backup returns the same results though.
Im new to this so I'll try toprovide all the info I can.
Followed the TUT on how to Unlock Bootloader and Root 2 days ago.
Yesterday, using the All In One tool, flashed TWRP onto phone.
Was unable to Flash AOKP JellyBean 4.1.2 so I asked for help again (ROM was flashed, but stuck on Initiating Swagger Boot)
Tried using All-In-One to flash (what I thought was) a kernel, since then, my phone just boots continuously or not at all (depending on if I wipe or whatnot)
While at work, I was able to Flash the AOKP rom and Boot into it, but after about 1 minute of use, it reboots.
This is where I'm at now.
My bootloader says

PRIMOC PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT- 1.57.0000
RADIO- 1.00.05.0929

I'm using the latest version (2.3.3.) of TWRP
Is there anyway I can find, and delete, the boot.img I flashed with All-In-One, that caused this bootloop?
