Hi just about to to root my Desire - I wonder if anyone could tell me their favourite ROM with Sense UI included (I like it!)
bump! anyone? ... going to step in randomly in bit otherwise
I have Leedroid, it's pretty good, fast and stable and has apps2sd+ (for my the main reason to root and flash) but I dislike the duplication of many apps for which sense has an alternative (eg an android and htc dialer and phonebook) so you are confronted with a choice between these apps in many instances. I would choose teppic74's rom if I hadn't installed leedroid. That said it isn't annoying enough to go trough a a reinstall and setup of the phone, so I will stick with leedroid
I also tried Aurax-Sense but really didn't like the theme otherwise it seemed quite okay
Go for Aurex T-sense...Its the best, flawless and fast I have come across so far...
Alright cool thanks... I just DL'd Aurax - what was it about the theme that bugged you godutch? WIll check teppic74!
Btw whats' the advantage of apps2sd? surely the Desire has enough storage built in for a bunch of apps? And isn't the internal RAM faster?
If you don't like the theme of AuraxT you can always replace it with another one of stock. I did that and even imported the Rosie of Leedroid which has Drag and drop function.

That sounds good how do you replace a theme?
and what is the 'drag and drop' function? Thx!
i got leedroids rom dont seem to have a problem with it

No actually it does not have a lot of memory for apps it gets full really fast, that's why everybody is using A2SD. Froyo has it's own A2SD but it's not as good as it can't install all apps to SD only those designed for it.
Personally I think it's a must.
I'm using the Alex-V 1.7 Rom, I like it as it is not too far off from an official Rom and has a couple tricks to save power. Now with S-OFF we can delete apps we dont want directly from the phone too so everything has become a lot easier.
pinky desire is also a stable one. with sense ui, no FC, and somehow long battery life. IMO. but it really depends on how you will use your phone. different people. different tastes. anyway you can try different roms. that's Android for you!

Well for starters it misses the little indicator to show you on which homescreen you are and I didn't like the transparent notification bar, looked too messy with the background and I didn't like the exorbitant use of color in the notification icons, also too messy
btw I would also stay away from roms that undervolt/underclock it's generally bad for your battery life because the CPU is much more energy efficient when it can enter its sleepstate. Underclocking makes tasks take longer and prevent the cpu from sleeping
Thanks for the advice everyone some good tips there I guess I'll do a bit more reading and try one out! Alex, pinky, Leedroid - ok!
6.2 is now released!!! Thanks to Lirasina!!!
Well since I got drawn to a rom that got bumped that was like from the stone age and everyone one was like, Man this is awesome it is so fast blabla
I decided to give it a go and when I ran it I was thinking like, Man this is awesome it is so fast...
So then there I was. Sitting on my confy chair thinking later on. Man this is crap... It is outdated and meh...
Then I decided to update stuff change some stuff make it more well... ME.
Like I did on Speedmachine V4 from Elelinux I did the same with this ROM but this time I changed some more. To make it more now. And not so 2010...
Ok now that useless story is said.. If you read it your lifeless but still.
Now to the ROM part but fist...
I am in no way responsible for broken phones, bad working phones, or some other stuff that may is some unlikelihood may happen during installation of this ROM.
In short I am not responsible for stuff that can not happen if you flash this. And stuff that may happen.
BTW I am no developer in anyway. I am good in breaking roms and somehow get them fixed again... Got no idea what the code does I leave that to the guru's
This rom is based of VanillaEclair 4.0 made by RaduG so credits to him for that.
The version is Sense themed with a DPI off 140.
The DPI is the screen density. The lower the numer the smaller the stuff is on the screen so you can have more on the screen then 160. 160 is Hero native.
I did not make the theme so I am not going to take credit for it. I used the Speedmachine V5 theme files. So credits to Elelinux for those.
Ok to the stuff I added or changed (updated)
Code:
Clicker.apk (For HTC_IME)
Gallery3D.apk (Cuss it is so fancy)
HTC_IME.apk (I hate LatinIME, but because I love you all I did not remove it)
LauncherPro.apk (Still the best one for me)
[COLOR="Red"]Maps.apk [/COLOR](Version 5.5.0, as an option to download)
Superuser.apk (Updated to the latest + Binaries)
Vending.apk (Updated to the one from Elelinux 2.1 Reloaded)
Lightscript: The folowing apps will be removed by this script. Run this right after the ROM flash! MultiUpload
Code:
Development.apk (I don't use it)
Email.apk (I don't use it)
GenieWidget.apk (I use BW)
LiveWallpaperPicker.apk (Runs crap on the Hero anyway)
Music.apk (Use an alternative better one from the market)
SoundRecorder.apk (I don't use it)
Stk.apk (Useless with KPN anyway)
Talk.apk (Noone I know uses it)
VoiceDialer.apk (Don't use it)
Ok that was all the APPS.
Now to some other stuff.
-This rom now supports multitouch, in maps atleast.
-Changed the OpenGL to 2.0 so Vector maps (3D Maps) may work, Don't shoot me if it doesnt.
-GPS Conf is set to Europe. Mostly Holland cuss I live there. If you want to change it, look in this topic and download the correct one for your place. Credits to AngelDeath for those files.
-Added some sounds. Well some allarms and 1 notification ringtone. Both set to default.
-Changed boot animation to one I love, Credits to ZduneX25 for that one.
-Changed on 2 version the DPI to 140. Thanks to RaduG who gave me that idea a long time ago with some rom. Tastysomething..
-I killed myself to get the Sensethemed one to look good. Till I saw this topic from Ohsaka. That made my day so credits to him for that tool.
-Also for the themed version I used the UOT Kitchen so credit to all those guys who made it.
-Well like noted updated apps and stuff.
Bugs
-Well one. Gallery3D acts a little weird on first startup. Just wait that out and it runs fine after. Just do some other stuff.
-No reboot menu. I was planning to do that. But when I saw the guide on that I was like. Ehm nah. to long and not in the mood to do so. If someone managed to do it. And want me to make an update.zip (well want me to try) I will and put it up as an option.
-With LVX 0.6.2 there may be USB mounting problems. Switch to Fly to fix that.
-LVX may have the bad habit to have crappier battery life then Fly13. My experience is that Fly13 is more stable. And less power using.
-Camerazoom aint working.
That is all I think. Prob forgot a lot but who cared. Everyone jumps down to the download link anyway and then download it. And go like. Music.apk is missing from my ROM.. Why is that??
Instalation!!
-Install the rom you want
-Download FlyKernel 13 from this topic, or Fly11C cuss Don loves it. Credits to Erasmux for all his work on that.
-You can also use Las Venturax from this topic. Again thanks to Erasmux and Riemer for that.
-Install Flykernel 13 or LV right after you installed the ROM, Which the updater script commands you to anyway. (Well it commands you to use Fly)
-Flash lightscript if you like.
-Boot into the ROM.
-Flash options or themes if you like to do so.
-Enjoy!!
So to the download links.

-Wazefix for 6.2: MultiUpload
-Wazeunfix for 6.2: MultiUpload Revers EGL to the old one.
I did not downgrade EGL to 1.0. (old file) Then you will have the rotary bug. I will release a patch wich will have the EGL file for 1.0 so then people can use waze.
Keep in mind that the Wazefix will put back the rotation bug in most apps even in waze!!
The reason why I did not include FlyKernel. Simple actually. I was lazy and well I always flash it after a rom flash with the speeds preset in the update script for my phone. So get used to that.

Yea it looks fine and I made it look nice with the sense theme to and the stock version has a different color one. To make it look nice with that theme.
I uploaded a screen so you can see it
@rdejager, thanks for putting in all this work to make the old look new!
cool! by the way, I take full responsibility for planting the seed that VE4 is fastest available.
I was chatting with saj offline and told him to try it with fly 11c (which is the fastest of the older kernels, much more of a useful kernel imho than fly 12 which breaks some touch capability in some games).
he was like, yea, great kernel! amazing! so fast! but he was using it on a 2.1 sense rom, not ve4.
I was like, you GOTTA try ve4. most responsive rom ever, and even better with this kernel dude.
and he was like, ok, I gotta revive that thread since you're all over that rom.
and so we went on there and tried to get ppl seeing how amazing it is.
Soooo, I'm happy that the guy who saw our posts was you since you're the coolest theming customizing hero-dedicated rom modifier I know!
congrats on the cool "new" old rom!
and don't forget ppl. ve4 is super fast because it doesn't have a lot of extra stuff in it, like all of the bigger later CM features
Credit specially also to the original developer of VE4 RaduG who worked bloody hard on the rom to get it running this well way back in the old days (>1 year ago LoL).
Suggestions:
Maybe 3d gallery should go though? I hate it, one of the best htings about VE4 is that it uses the previous 2d gallery which was WAY faster and everybody liked better than the crappy photo-missing slow 3d gallery that is synonymous with android these days. there was so much backlash against 3d gallery when it came out and radug decided to keep in the 2d gallery because it's more reliable (doesn't skip photos like 3d gallery STILL does even these days), and is just way faster and lighter.
Also remember this is a 2.1 vanilla-early cm rom (back when cm was nearly vanilla at least). So maybe you should leave IN that voice dialer thing since voice control wasn't as integrated into 2.1 aosp android as it was in later firmware. However I haven't tried alternatives to the voice dialer from VE4 yet in this rom to know if it will still do voice dialing in other ways. I DO know that bluetooth doesnt' support voice dailing in this rom, at least not in ve4 so prob not in this rom, but I talk loudly when driving and using the non-bluetooth voice dialer to make calls still. So it's a useful addition to keep in this rom maybe.
but aside from those possible suggestions imho, I'm blown away and will be trying your new rom right away!
congrats!
Don
edit: and yes, I read and know that I Can add those apks back in if I want to. I'm suggesting them be in by default if they are actually better solutions for everybody when wanting a fast light rom like this one. cheers!

Like I said you can all smash it in there your self if you like. I hate it and for me the 3D one is as fast as the 2D one in loading stuff. Except the first startup. And since my language is dutch and the voice dialer thinks is mongolian or something I call the whitehouse then I say bel Mandy. That is why I removed it.
last time I said "bel Mandy" was....
wait, huh?

awww, you're such a sweetie
thanks for that one
by the way, vlingo is a great free speech recognition tool for this rom, free on market, aside from not supporting bluetooth it gives the best results in ve4.
flashing this now...
by the way, +1 on quickpic. 2d gallery and quickpic are both fast, I think 2d gallery is faster when viewing pics full screen and tapping previous/next buttons, but quickpic keeps subfolder organization in the UI And is faster at remembering and displaying all of the thumbnails. quickpic is definitely a solid option for aftermarket installs if anyone wants to play with it.
cheers

like I said in the ve4 thread, ve4 with fly 11c is so fast that it feels like an iphone, but better cuz we have dedicated hw buttons for menu etc (the lack of which is the biggest design mistake in iphone/ios imho). oh, and we have full multitasking... which is actually useful in this rom due to how light it all is.

Hey!
I have been rooted my Defy and overclockrd it to 1Ghz. And it feels good now
But the question is, is there still something that I could do to get even more better performance out of Defy?
And yes, I know that flashing CM7 makes it faster, but Im not gonna flash anything yet coz' I have no experience about flashing. And Im bit careful with my defy.
I really want to know how to get whole performance out of this awesome device
And gaming. I've heard about "chainfire3D", will it make 3D and HD games more smoothly and better gaming experience?
Thanks in advace!
install an Applauncher like ADW Launcher to optimize the Appdrawer.
Julian
As far as I know chainfire3D improves performance only in games which are designed for Tegra GPU. Don't worry about Flashing CM7, you can always downgrade to Froyo (Btw, if you have 2.1 to improve performance you can flash 2.2 in official way using Motorola Software Update). Defy is almost unbrickable so you cannot do anything wrong.

Which is better ADW or GO luncher?
Send from my MB525 motodefy.
IMO, Go Launcher Ex is better. It is smoother and does not lag at all! Furthermore, the App Drawer is really nice , you can make it look like iOS - you'll have these tiny x's above the apps if you drag and hold your finger on them if you want to delete them or move.
ADW launcher is good, its still smooth, but go launcher is faster.

I second that.
My first launcher was ADW. It's really nice launcher but sometimes it's laggy and consumes much more CPU. GO Launcher runs smooth with any transation/effect i choose and has some nice tools like recent and running app in app drawer.
I think if you don't feel comfortable using CM7, Chainfire 3D is a no go either, it's safer but still can screw your system
You can also use Titanium Backup to "freeze" some apps you don't frequently use that still consume resources
the best launcher is launcherpro imo. it uses 3g acceleration for the animations, so it runs way smoother than other launchers, and its incredibly fast! and in launcherpro, you have the opportunity to hide apps in the app drawer. but the first step in increasing performance would definitely be to update to a 2.2 kernel than flashing cm7 (i recommend the 110909 nightly)!

The Blur Launcher runs in background and i can't be killed (in stock roms).
You can use apps like Home Manager or Home Switcher to switch between launchers

I would guess you already have 2.2 stock. If not, you're missing an easy improvement.
I also thought I needed to learn more before trying CM7 so it took me quite a while to flash it. The only thing I can say now is that it makes me appreciate even more how much faster CM7 is than stock 2.2. I wish I had tried it before.
I'm still having some problems with wifi, but I just can't go back anymore, stock is just too slow.
As for a launcher, try Zeam Launcher, pretty quick.
+1 for the Zeam Launcher. App launchers are just that. They should consume a minimal amount of resource so that the applications that really matter have more room to play with.
If you have a stock rom, it is really quite possible to take out moto's home app. You need to be rooted (and of course, you need to be careful)
Regarding the question about not seeing the original home launcher, i think the easiest thing to do is to uninstall the 3rd party app launcher. If the original home app is still installed, you *should then be able to see it again on the foreground.
For original home launcher fix go to market and search for "moto home fix". Read it and install.
And when you want to go back on original launcher, go to settings-applications-manage applications and select your current launcher.
Then click "clear defaults" and press home button.
Menu for choosing launcher will promp.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Zeam launcher has the best performance, but lacks some features. Best Alternative is LauncherPro, in my opinion.

Yes, I have 2.2.2
Send from my MB525 motodefy.
Well there I was. As always. Checking out ROMS. As always. And then I went back to an old Froyo ROM. Floyo 1.2.0. If you do not know Floyo 1.2.0 then you have been living under a rock. Or your just a GB fan boy.
The reason I made this fan update of this awesome rom. Is easy really.. I want a fast full featured and full app suported ROM for the Hero.
VE6 is nice and fast. But it does not support all the apps. Heroine. Nice look and some good speed. But BT support on it is crap. Same as VE6 actually. And well Froyo roms have good support for apps and BT. But CM 6.2.0 got to heavy for my feel, Speedmachine by Elelinux and Floyo 1.4.0Pre1. So I took a road that was betwien CM6.1 and CM6.2 and a tiny bit GB.
So here I present to you all. My custom broken and fixed based on Floyo 1.2.0, Floyo 1.3.0
Big thanks ofcource to Erasmux for the base of this ROM.
To the ROM.
So its Floyo CM 6.1 based with all the goodie tweaks Erasmux made and a tiny bit I smashed in.
To the things I changed:
Code:
# Market updated to the middle one [I](Not the current latest)[/I]
# Removed Market updater so Market stays this version
# Complete theme overhaul [I](I just love Sense look)[/I] Took a while to get it to this.
#Browser is themed [I](A little)[/I]
#Launcher pro as standard launcher
#Updated Gapps
#Removed apps you can get from the market
#Updated Google Maps to the latest. [I](Some have problems with installing it from the market)[/I]
#Replaced Latim_IME with the GB Latin_IME [I](And it has multilanguage support)[/I]
#Installed custom themed HTC_IME-mod [I](and works on 140 DPI)[/I]
#Changed the DPI to 140
#Updated EGL to 1.1 with the correct libs
#FlyKernel 13 included. [I](Thanks [B]Erasmux[/B], again :D)[/I]
Think that is about it.
Ok when you first boot this ROM you will notice the theme is outa wack. Well I tried to fix it by changing some setting in CM_Setting. But yea did not work Fail me.
So when you first boot the rom go to CM Settings -> User Interface -> Tweaks exras -> Select a theme, and select STOCK_Sense.
Then reboot the phone and tada. It looks nice .
BTW the theme is based on 3 roms. Speedmachine from Elelinux. Heroine and SFM. So it is full Sense look. Just for the people who want to know about the theme. I am to lazy to create screens.
So that is about it for the theme.
Some report problems with GPS rebooting their phone. Well my phone max clock speed is 652 Mhz. And I always set it to 633. And I never get a reboot. The GPS Reboots on the Hero are mostly cuss people set their clock speed to high. Try lowering it. even all the way to the stock speed. And if you still have it then. Post some Logcats. I am no dev but I can debug a little. So maybe I can fix the problem some of you guys have with it.
The reason I spit the SuperUser from the rom and let you all install it sepratly is because the new Superuser (For me) does not work nice when I smash it in the rom from the start.
Install instructions:
# Download ROM and Superuser udate package (Duh)
# Put both on SD-card (Why do I even bother writing this?)
# Reboot to Recovery (Noone will read it anyways)
# Wipe everything!!! (!! maybe that will get some attention?)
# Install Floyo 1.3
#Install Supseruser Package (Else no root!)
# Install FlyKernel 13 package with pre-set clock speeds. (then you do not need a 3th party app for it)

I have and this one well same sorta speed but no maps closes out of the blue... XD and well mobile data on this one is more stable for me.
and ow yea, I like this theme better then from Goku's rom. Maybe I will have the crazy idea to create a ICS theme. but maybe not.. XD
testing right now, the speed of this rom is indeed very nice. Didn't encounter any wild bugs yet. So great rom. But i'll have to switch back to GB for development reasons.

Its in the trash and maybe I will some time, if I want. maybe.
It would be nice if you added some screenshots to the first post. I flashed this superexcited to replace my stock CM 6.1, but I hate the theme.
I don't mean to offend anyone, design and taste are subjective, but the looks might be a dealbreaker for many people other than me too.

Well in the changelog you can clearly see its based on a Sense theme. Just wondering did you also made the change with the CMTheme thing?? I do wonder why you got an HTC phone with HTC Sense in the first place
Nice ROM, fast and stable, would be nice if you can also release a 160dpi version as my elderly eyes are not able to cope with it
+1. Us more mature members prefer the 160dpi so that we can see the rom. Thanks for your hard work
ok, running it from yesterday evening, it's quite fast and stable...
lowered CPU max to 633 , so hopefully there won't be any GPS reboots
DPI Changers added on second post. Planning to add 2 light scripts as well. A Ultra light one and a light one, that removes some bloat that some may not use
Time to backup my Hero and install this
Thanks!
EDIT:
Here are some screenshots, Clean Floyo 1.3.0 VLC install (Lirasina, feel free to use the screenshots in your first post )
hmmz, right, Sense Theme?
# Change the tweaks extras selected theme to STOCK_Sense!!!!! (Is a MUST!!!)
Done, but when i reboot it stays on LauncherPro?

Well the statusbar and all the buttons are, Rosie is not a theme XD its a launcher..
ok, Thanks
Rom works pretty fast and stable so far, it's amazing when you come back from a Gingerbread rom, The Hero isn't really descent enough to run Gingerbread at a descent working speed.
I'll stick to this, till i decided what to replace my Hero with,Samsung Galaxy SII or Google Galaxy Nexus (So far i tend to get a SGSII)
btw I noticed on your screen shots something. did you aply the sense theme in the CM options already when you made those? Cuss that is not how I intended it to look XD
Hey.
Do not know whether it is the rom or launcher. But when I plug in the usb to enable usb storage and quit so are all my non JB wiget gone .
The same thing happens after boot.
I use plain 1.5 and Apex Pro 1.3 beta4
Your widgets are installed on SD card not phone. You should move them to your phone.
A lot of 3rd party widgets aren't working well with the Jelly Bean ROM's. They DO tend to go bye bye after a reboot. Sometimes apps even uninstall themselves after reboot. But, that's the price you pay for testing UNOFFICIAL ROMs.

Thank Baldilocks.
But this is something that has started after IceColdJelly version 1.x
I am not allowed to write in IceColdJelly because I do not have enough posts in the forum.
