Does anyone ever have a problem with their Keyboard not responding when you type really fast? I type fast and for some reason when using my keyboard if I'm typing to fast it will not type the letter I press down. Its so frustrating. So now i type slower than my swype. Lame. Thinking of getting rid of this thing. J/K but is it my phone or should i get a replacement? I'm running Bonsai 1.1.4 if that helps any.
The Epic has an issue with the hardware keyboard, that if you type too fast, it doesn't respond. I believe it's just a fault with the phone. I think there's a setting to fix it, but the topic with this problem was a longg time ago and I can't seem to find it now.
Sorry!
I've heard that if you disable swype, the keyboard skips less. Haven't tested it, though.
Yup. The keyboard just sucks. Too bad because it's got 5 rows which great

I don't think it's a hardware problem. When I play emulated games using the keyboard, it never skips keys.
Ps, I just barely started using SwiftKey and it seems to not be slipping keys

I created a thread like this a long time ago. I use swiftkeys keyboard and it hardly skips a beat. When using swype then using the keyboard I found it to be much worse so I just leave it disabled it. I do not believe it is a hardware problem, it is more of a software problem. No fixes yet I believe.
give SwiftKeys a try bruda.

Same with me.... My physical keyboard skips keys quite often. I currently only have the gingerbread keyboard installed and it doesn't skip as much as when swype was installed also. I found that it skipped the least amount when I used smart keyboard. The problem is I like the gingerbread keyboard a lot more so I just have to put up with the skipping keys. I still haven't found a fix for it.
Just by intuition I want to say it is probably a buffer issue. I just don't know how that input is routed on our phones. I need to set up a dev environment and start playing with it.

Please tell us if it works! I've been having this problem forever and I HATE IT.
Turning off Swype didnt help for me. It still does it frequently. It is SOOOOO frustrating. But thats the only gripe I have so I deal...
yeah it's still skipping letters for me, but not as bad. Someone said it could possibly be an issue for when you hold down a key too long you get that stupid special character menu for certain letters. What if they could remove that? Or increase the time it takes to hold the key down in order to make that menu pop up? I mean I don't know what else it could possibly be besides faulty hardware.
Sweet thanks!

I have just upgraded from the HTC evo4g. I firstly rooted, then installed smart keyboard pro. I need a keyboard that types English as well as Korean, and smart keyboard pro has been my favorite so far.
The only problem is, the keyboard lags like crazy. If I type quickly, a whole bunch of letters gt skipped. For example, if I type "Mary had a little lamb" quickly, I get "Mry hd littl amb." Sometimes, some letters start becoming symbols as if I had held the key down to get a symbol.
I tried downloading other keyboards. Something called Multiling keyboard looked promising, with a very high rating. But it lags just as much with the same results.
Right now I am using google ime for korean using something called "Korean keyboard" from the market. I hate this keyboard but at least it doesnt lag so damn much.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good multi language keyboard that wont skip letters? I mean, most multilanguage keyboards lag like hell on this phone. They also seem to not be multi-touch enabled, even when they are...
Please help me out, I am so disappointed by this small (but critical!) annoyance. Thanks.

My fav keyboard is the gingerbread keyboard. Its multi-touch and should be multilanguage (i think at least)

Thanks for the suggestion supdawg. Yeah I like the gingerbread keyboard but unfortuneately it doesnt support Korean input.
I actually found something called Go Keyboard and it seems promising so far. The problem with it is that the spacebar will only work if I press it two times everytime I want to space. Lol...

That sounds like something that could be fixed in the settings.
I have noticed this too. It seems the Evo4G has the best digitizer I've experienced - my ET4G consistently lags like yours. I have to type super slow or else it will only display a few letters. I've found Thumb Keyboard works better. I don't know about additional languages though.

Try "Thumb Keyboard 4"
I type really fast and this keyboard seems to keep up with me the best. Not sure if it support Korean though
If you have the hepatic feed back on i found that adds to the lag i turn the sound and haptic off and it works fine
Sent from my MoPho!
Try "go keyboard", i think it has chinese, try it and c how it is, doesnt lag for me one bit.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yeah I have my haptic feedback and sound off. I hate haptic feedback anyway. The spinny thing in the phone that makes the phone vibrate, that thing saps your battery. Also my thumbs tickle if the haptic is on.
Anyway, yeah I tried to Go Keyboard. It still lags, but nowhere near as much as smart keyboard pro. It seems to be the best so far, but the only annoying thing is that there are no symbols above the letters. Also it's very hard to make fine adjustments if I mistype some word. I can't simply take the cursor where the error is and delete each letter, I have to delete starting from the end.
Why is this phone so laggy with the inputs? Sometimes I feel like there MUST be some options somewhere, regarding the touchscreen sensitivity etc... Or, maybe we have to use terminal emulator to change some values somewhere. I swear this phone sometimes feels like it doesn't support multitouch. type 2 letters really quick, and only 1 of them inputs. What the...hell.
I have the same pet peave with the lag issue. I don't know about multi language support, but my favorite one is Better Keyboard 8 available in the Amazon appstore. Its not perfect but its the best I've seen so far with being able to handle fast typing. The keys are spaced well and the are elongated slightly vertically and seem ideal for fast accurate typing. Give it a try and let me know how you like it.

Yeah dude I would recommend you try Lostkernel, but first try Thumb Keyboard. It's the only keyboard that doesn't lag.
I was going to recommend SwiftKeyX, but there's no Korean support. I have noticed a bit of keyboard lag (words with the same letter twice) but it's prediction and word completion have always overcome the issue. Perhaps worth looking into if/when they add Asian languages.
I have thumb keyboard, and generally like it. But it (along with other keyboards I've tried) has the weird issue that it starts out great with the auto-correct suggestions, then it stops suggesting until the entire word has been typed. My wife is experiencing this oddity as well on her ET4G. Anyone else?
Chris, thanks for the suggestion to use the Lost kernel. I will give it a try and report back here how it works out.

Another thing I noticed, if you turn "Popup on keypress" off, the lag seems to go away.

I'm surprised the standard Galaxy Nexus / ICS doesn't have a new line / enter key.
Are there any keyboards that are very similar to the stock keyboard, but instead of a smiley key it has an enter button?
I really need to use new lines in SMS messages. :C
Thumb keyboard is what I use on my tablet because its similar to stocks method of word correction but is more customisable in its layouts. I use stock on my nexus though.

Well swiftkeyX learns from the way you type, so if you end up typing any different way, it'll try to "push" you in the direction it expects you to be typing. You get a more narrowly focused autocorrect that helps for your every day 100 character tweets and SMS, but hurts in your forum posts (or other long form typing).

I have used swype on my past few Android devices and was always SURE that it was 10x faster than any 'tap' keyboard could ever be. Upon the discovery of Swiftkey X however, I was proven very wrong. I use ICS themed swype from here: http://jbthemes.com/djdarkknight/daswypethemes/
Swype is the best
I really dig SwiftkeyX. Predictions improved a lot when I linked it to my facebook and gmail accounts. Never could get the hang of swype but maybe I should give it another try.
I'd like to try swype for gnex. So where do you "download" it? Its not on the market place. I have slide it, which is garbage. Could someone put a link up for swype for the nexus?

I've been using Swype since I first got on Android with the Vibrant last year. I've been using it on every phone since. However, I'm starting to get pretty frustrated with Swype now; it doesn't recognize words I use most. 90% of the time I swype "and" I get "add", and I rarely use add. So I'm looking for a new keyboard, that does what Swype does, but BETTER. Any takers?

SwiftKey is great as a backup keyboard in case you need precise typing such as filling in forms and passwords
Not sure if you actually tried swiftkey but i would give it a shot even without swyping. they've added a new feature to the beta that for me makes it as afast as swyping. You don't have to put spaces in between your words. You just type words basically all run together and there software auto spaces for you. before this feature i would only use swype but after this feature i text faster with swype and as the other user said above its great for forms

I picked up my Note 2 today at a local sprint store. They were only given 5 and once I got mine they had 2 left. This was 20 minutes after they opened.
I have a couple questions and concerns reuarding the phone that im hoping someone can help me answer.
1. Is there a way to stop the volume from decreasing whenever i plug it into my car? The volume will always go down to half and its kind of annoying.
2. When using the keyboard to type messages, if i spell a word wrong and hit space it wont autocorrect it. Is this a feature Samsung left out? Im so used to it on my evo, i feel like i have to keep looking at what im writing to make sure i dont misspell something.
3. If im in the browser and zoom in on something it wont adjust to fit the page like the HTC EVO did. Is this also something samsung didnt include?
The main concern I have with the phone is the 3g data speeds. I am coming from the original Evo 4g and although Sprint isnt known to have the greatest speeds I never had a problem downloading an application. Today it took an hour to download myfitnesspal from the play store. I tested the speeds on speedtest.net and I was getting 33kbps down and 5kbps up. My girlfriend who also has an Original EVO 4g was getting 300kbps down and 170kbps up. Still not the greatest speed but alot better than what i was getting on the Note 2. Both phones were in the same spot and the same time. I did the test a number of times and always had the same outcome.
Thanks everyone. So far I am loving this phone and both the hardware and software are great!!

That is due to one of the headphone options to limit the intensity of volume so it doesn't damage your ears. You'll find the option it in the sound settings, after you disable it in won't change your volume to half anymore.

I have a new Note 2, and I'm also new to Android, so I've been posting different things I encounter with the phone.
My experience with the keyboard is one of the things I posted, copied in here.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The default Samsung keyboard on the Galaxy Note 2 is a sleeper.
Samsung included Swiftkey Flow, which allows gesture-based typing, like Swype. The more I use it the more I like it, and it has auto-suggest and auto-correct.
The number row at the top is pretty great, too, the large screen allows it all to fit. The auto-suggestions appear above the number row.
Samsung also included the handwriting keyboard, for the S-Pen. The handwriting recognition works really well, and I'm coming up to speed with it.
The main points to remember about the keyboards are these:
- auto-suggest and auto-correct function in both tapping and handwriting modes.
- in tapping mode the transition between tapping and gesturing is seamless, but if you try to use both modes within a word a space is automatically inserted.
- in tapping mode auto-correct functions only while using gestures. If you're tapping and not gesturing you have to choose among the suggestions instead of relying on auto-correct. I'm learning the cases where it's important to me to have auto-correct do its thing, like when typing "I'm". If I type it in in tapping mode, it ends up as "Im" unless I choose the auto-suggestion with the apostrophe. It's better instead to use gesture mode for "I'm" as the auto-correct will do the right thing and use the apostrophe. As I mentioned, the transition from tapping to gesturing is seamless.
- quick-punctuation and quick-capitalization functions are missing
completely. People who don't use gestures and people who've never spent time with an IOS keyboard ( and many who have ) don't get this.
I am starting to really like this keyboard. My only real gripes are the lack of auto-correct in tapping mode and the lack of quick-capitalization and quick-punctuation, but they are mitigated by long-presses.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Someone else mentioned in the thread the Jelly Bean Keyboard, and it really is an excellent keyboard, I discovered it with my Galaxy S3 and initially installed it on the Note 2. But I'm not willing to give up the handwriting recognition, so back to the stock keyboard I went.
The stock keyboard doesn't do everything, but it has its good points.
Cheers,
-John

I also came from the Evo4G, and the auto adjust feature you speak of is a HTC Sense feature. I noticed this early on after using others phones and tablets. Although a small feature for those that have had it and lost it we all know how big of a thing it really is. Still don't know why Google hasn't implemented this within current builds of Android yet.

Can you explain what Apple has to do with it, references? AFAIK, HTML can be rendered any which way the (User Agent, that is) browser wants - that's the point of markup language.

Text/browser reflow after zooming(what the op is refering to on HTC phones...similar to word wrapping in excel lol) is patented by Apple. Samsung removed it from devices last year. HTC will eventually do so as well.
Its been all over the web for nearly 2 years...you are a smart guy you can find it
The only way to get it to work on samsung phones is to, after zooming in to the size that you want, you have to double tap the screen an additional time to enable text reflow.

Yup. And in a coup today Apple won a patent on page turning animations. ..

Using the Dolphin browser with Dolphin Jetpack, you get extremely fast page renderig with automatic text reflow.

Hmm, that'd contradict TechRadar.com's review [/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-note-2-1093688/review/5#articleContent]:You can have the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 reformat pages when you zoom in but it doesn't do this by default, which is slightly annoying.
In fact, you have to go into the advanced section of the settings menu to dig this little gem out, which we weren't overly impressed with having to do.
Lots of people won't be aware of this - and that could lead to a second rate experience for no reason at all.
I come from Swype and recently Swiftkey and find that the Note keyboard is not bad at all.
I'm very surprised to be saying this but I am enjoying it very much. Started using it to test the one handed operation as my fingers couldn't reach the "A" key with ease and have been using it since.
The engine is Swiftkey so I guess is the similar with Samsung twist. I love the fact that I can type in multiple languages simultaneously w/o having to change.
What keyboard are you guys using? What would you change or add to it?

I like it alot. I just wish I could shorten the delay of long pressing the letters for alternate symbols and punctuation. It takes way too long. Other than that I love it

I know that is one of the complaints I also have. Long press takes FOR EVER.
It would also be nice if you could do the "ctrl C" and "ctrl V" to copy and paste as you do in Swype.

I just tested my module from the note 2. SamsungKeyboardShortDelay in xposed installer. Works fine on the note3.
I've never used the Samsung keyboard really I've always been a swiftkey user, but this time around I'm really liking it and you're right maybe because the swiftkey engine? ?

The one thing I did not like about it is the smiley key stayed on the last emoticon used, and sometimes it made my text messages have the wrong appearance... Switched to SwiftKey.

I was a huge smartkeyboard pro user before buying the note 2 and seeing the 5 row keyboard it has built in. Can't reccomend samsung keyboard enough now that im hooked using it.
Sent from my note 2 ya bish!
The keyboard was one of the things I was looking forward to. Having a dedicated number row is nice. I had a note 2 keyboard mod on my gs3. Really liked it.
I am loving it, I am honestly liking it more than swift key.
I love it too, but have your guys'/gals' swiping predictions been all over the place? I'm constantly having to un learn crazy words I have never and would never use. Thinking about going back to swift key for this reason.
Btw, when I typed that, it suggested " fount beak" instead of "going back." ..rly
Edit: gonna try turning off live prediction, which might be theculprit. ..and turn on learn from Gmail and messages.
new keyboard
I'm finding the new keyboard to my liking. Having the numbers there without having to go into a sub-keyboard is really great. I like the size of the keys for when I use my fingers, and the keys are a good distance when I use the stylus too. :good:

I thought the Samsung keyboad was supposed to learn and use the words you commonly say. It never seems to pick up the words LTE or AT&T automatically for me.
I am currently using the Google keyboard.
Google keyboard !!!

Hit this thread and install xposed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467958
Launch the app and select framework then install framework.
After you have it set up, tap download from the main menu, then find the Samsung keyboard short delay module. Download and install it, then enable it in the modules menu. Reboot and it should be active.

Glad to help. Have fun with the note.
I really liked this keyboard and I WOULD LOVE TO USE IT but a couple things that im not sure i can let go from swiftkey. 1) the longpress duration (im not rooted yet) 2) i have my predictions backed up via cloud with swiftkey so it already knows my "language" and 3) WHICH IS THE BIG ONE, I LOVE swiping back to delete the word with swiftkey. This saves me so much time, I wish I can get that on this keyboard because I really like it and it seems to type more accurately. Swiftkey skips the 1st letter if i type the 2nd one too fast, and thats never happened to me on any other phone just this one. Anyway, sorry for the novel

I like it a lot. Especially the numbers on top. I installed the official Google Keyboard from the Play Store too. I like the big buttons on it, and if it had numbers on top I'd probably use it as default, so for now I switch back and forth when I feel like it.
I love the new N3 keyboard. The only thing that's bothering me is the small space bar. I also can't seem to find the setting that hides the symbols on the keyboard. Is there any way to get rid of that on the r mobile USA version?
