While I do like Swyping, I find that it becomes difficult as one's hands get a tiny bit sweaty or even dirty. You fingers seem to stick to the screen which makes Swyping fairly difficult and almost impossible to be accurate. While I do try to be as clean as possible, sometimes your hands get sweaty for whatever reasons such as if you wear gloves or keep them in your pockets for a while.
I am just wondering if there is a screen protector out there that allows for a totally smooth surface, despite any sweat, dirt or other things that could be on your fingers? I recently got the Realooks and while they are very clear and does a good job resembling the feeling of the bare screen, it has the same issues while Swyping. There may even be a little bit more of a finger resistance with the Realooks on.
I was thinking and thought that maybe a screen protector with a matte finish would be ideal for Swyping. Matte screen protectors are smooth and most are anti-fingerprint which I assume would be very good for Swyping.
Has anyone had any experience with a matte finish screen protector while Swyping?
Any suggestions overall?
i use an anti-glare screen protector from Clarivue (.com) that is matte finish and has a very smooth surface that makes using swype very comfortable and easy. I used clarivue on my N1 as well when i had swype, and i recently got the captivate and i couldnt live without the smooth surface from the screen protector so i had to buy another pack. it is anti scratch and anti smudge, although from what ive seen, it does affect the clarity of the amoled to a certain extent.
I use whatever screen protector that my AT&T store sold - works well with swype.
i have something similar to the invisashield body shield but i cant remember who made mine. i ordered off ebay an in came in an envelope with no branding. like someone with a laser etcher/cutter got a hold of the material and made it in his garage. it has the typical invisishield orange peel look but feels like it has natural oils in it. it is always very slick and doesn't show finger prints. it never feels greasy or sticky or dry. just slightly oily but i have heard that's not typical of the invisishield brand so it might not be the same material. if i come across the add ill post it.
also antiglare protectors are good for that but the ones i bought had bad adhesive on the edges, also i find that anti glare have a good amount of reflection to them and are only better than hard plastic protectors that can be milky, i can read through an invisishield in sunlight better than an anti glare and no screen protector at all is better than that.
Skinomi...I dig it.

Agreed.
Plus these screen protectors cover the entire front of the phone. Can't even tell it's on there. I've seen others that only cover the display area.

For $10 and you can go buy them locally, it was ideal. Seems to work just as well as without the protector.

I just purchased one on amazon from ArmorSuit. Gotta be one of the best screen protectors out there. Way Way better then skinomi and the majority that is out there. 5/5 stars. Just my honest opinion. Want to help out those who are looking for something of quality. Go ahead and give it a try, you wont regret it.

I think I'll try this Armorsuit...I just received the SGP screen protector....suck and overpriced..lucky I got it from Amazon...easy return service....
I got the Steinheil Ultra Crystal (SQ) and the fit (some air around the camera) and quality is really good (been using Steinheil screen protectors for years on my phones). I got my from Amazon.com and its kinda expensive but its like $21/year =).
This isn't the place I got my, but you can see all the different types.

couldn't find one here, hence bought a notebook screen protector and pruned it for perfect fit on my galaxy tab plus used the remnant for my phone.
I'm worried if I put an Invisibleshield screen protector on my GT 10.1 it will leave a permenant haze or film on the the screen when I decide to take it off. Can anyone offer any information? Thank you
I got this.

3x screen protectors for $10 shipped. They're matte. Fit almost perfect (1mm smaller than the actual glass to prevent lifting).
I dont see any reason for a screen protector other than wanting to have a matte screen to remove the glare.

Most of us actually prefer our screen (gorilla glass or not) scratch-free. Having a protector gives you ease of mind when rubbing a smudge or fingerprint off too.

I just installed that exact same one from the same seller. Fits perfectly, especially around the camera and ambient light sensor. It adds a little bit of a grainy texture to the display, but all anti-glare films I've used do that. Not sure if it's really got an anti-grease / oleophobic coating as mine has some decent fingerprints, but the matte surface hides it well.
Tip to line it up the first time: before you take off the backing, line it up how you want it. Scotch tape it 3x on one of the edges, preferrably the one with the pull-tab for the backing. Make a tape handle for the opposite end of the screen. When you're ready to install it, hold the tape handle and pull the backing off with the tab, then pull the handle tight as you lay down the protector.
Trust me, I went through at least 7 different screen protectors (I got the Asus, Acer, and Samsung) and this is by far the best one out there. Good luck.

How does it stack up against InvisibleShield and the other 3M Scratchguard types? I usually don't like the texture on those.
Don't know about the ones I've been hearing about in this thread, but I've got InvisibleShield on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I'm probably never taking it off. It works wonders and I have the same protector for my HTC Evo. Never need another screen protector once you go InvisibleShield.
I myself have been searching for a screen protector for my tab. I have the invisishield on my evo4g, and I find that it adds quite a bit of sticky friction to swiping, or any time you drag your finger across the screen. It's not so important on the phone as it would be on the tab, so here's my question:
What sp will offer some protection, but doesn't add much friction to the touch experience.
Appreciate the input!

The one I mentioned above is smooth. The matte finish makes it feel more like high gloss paper than glass. I'm considering buying a clear protector from the same company though as the "sparkly" effect that the matte finish adds to the screen (esp. things that are solid green for some reason) is getting on my nerves.
I have the zagg invisibleSHIELD maximum protection, is was a little skeptical at first but really like it now the i have had it on for a coupke weeks. There is more grip to the tablet now, but i can still slide my fingers over the screen with no issues. I will say this though, if you have never installed something like this take your time whrn installing it.

Apologies if it has already been asked, i may have missed it.
I'd like to have a specific anti-glare screen protector, the glossy screen is not bad but still very reflective, a part from the usual fingerprints issue.
Any product that suits my needs?

thanks man, appreciated.
any tips or tricks to putting the screen protectors on without getting bubbles or dust and lint sticking to adhesive side of protector?
If and when you place your screen protector and notice a finger print or lint, you can repair it. I use clear packing tape, cutting two strips about 1/2" wide. Place one on the top near (but not over) the area you are working with. This is used to lift the protector so you can get under it to where the problem is. Then slip the second strip under the protector, facing up or down depending if the problem it on the protector or the glass. I do it one way then the other for good measure. Once the tape is in place, lower the protector, press on the area, raise the protector, remove the piece of tape under the protector, then lower the protector to see if the blemish is gone.
Repeat where needed. Remove the piece of tape on the top by holding the protector beside the tape, and pulling the tape off the top.
This will remove fingerprints underneath the protector whether it is on the protector or the glass. It will also remove dust, fibers, etc.
It is entirely possible to place the screen protector where it is straight and without anything caught underneath, but I have used this method many times.
If you would like to see the process, search Youtube for "removing lint from under screen protectors".
I'm lazy -- I took mine to BestBuy and had them do it. It cost around $12, but they did the job right. I always seem to screw up when putting them on myself.

I agree, it makes no sense to use a screen protector on something that has Gorilla Glass like the KF does, other than fingerprints or possibly a privacy screen protector.
I purchased the Skinomi from Amazon. It did not really help with fingerprints like I had planned, nor did it look very good on the screen - contrary to the Skinomi I have on my iPhone 4...
My fire got a light scratch on it in about a week. Never dropped, lived in its case, babied.
Get a screen protector.
(I am anal and hate even the smallest defect. It was indeed a small scratch only noticeable in certain light, but was a scratch.)

I disagree. I have Gorilla Glass on my Samsung Epic 4g which survived the same type of 'demonstrations' showed in that video. Not wanting to impact the beauty of the screen (touted as one of its primary features when the phone came out), I left mine unprotected. However, after less than a year of use, there are still a significant number of scratches on it, and even one 'chunk' missing that is visible from all angles.
Came here to see if anyone recommended a specific brand over another. While the anti-glare screens sound nice, I have also read that it impacts viewing in a negative way - sounds like something I don't want for a device designed for reading. Therefore I figured I'd stick with a clear protector, but was looking for reviews.
I've always loved and used the SGP Steinheil Ultra Crystal.
[I'll add link later]
The anti-fingerprint ones they sell are junk. They really muck up the screen. But the ultra-crystals are great and provide another layer of protection. I haven't installed mine on my Fire yet, but I will once I get around to it.
Though Gorilla Glass is amazing stuff, it is not scratch-proof. I'll continue using screen protectors regardless of what type of glass.
Interesting. I have a 2 year old Incredible with a perfect screen and never used a screen protector. I must be the most careful person on earth.

Agree and disagree. While it does hinder the quality a tiny tiny bit, I personally love the feel of the matte surface while reading a book. That, combined with anti-glare, make the clear protectors utterly useless to me. If I'm reading / watching anything, I certainly don't want to have to tilt the device to get rid of glare to see the screen clearly.
I bought the Acase matte screen protectors and absolutely recommend them to anyone. 3 pack for $12.99 shipped on Amazon. (Girlfriend loves them too)
I have an XO Skin on my Nexus and love the look of it. You really can barely tell its there and it helps a ton with the finger prints. They make one for the Fire as well: http://xoskins.com/amazon-kindle-fire-screen-protector
Be aware that this is a wet applied protector. I find the best way to apply them is the steam up the bathroom really well for a few minutes, then turn the water off for a few minutes to let any dust in the room settle. Then do a really good wipe down of the screen with a non lint towel and blow it completely clean with compressed air.
When applying the protector, use a lot of the application liquid, on the protector and your fingers.
I just installed a Skinomi protector. Still waiting for it to dry and all, but as far as I can see I removed pretty much all of the bubbles. It was around 9 bucks shipped, came well packaged with clear instructions and a lifetime warranty. As long as it the picture quality isn't disturbed, I think it's going to be a winner.
I do want to try one of those matte protectors now though...
After dealing with cheap screen protectors I ordered a couple different well reviewed protectors.
I got the armorsuit militaryshield.
It installed great, but had to apply it wet (which i don't like) and let sit for 12 hours.
It turned out very nice, you really couldn't tell it was there besides very minor screen distortion. I really didn't like how it felt, a little sticky.
I had to rma that kindle and couldn't save the shield.
So I got a greatshield ezseal
If you're looking for a protector this is the one to get.
Best protector Ive ever used.
Its basically just like the moshi ivisor for ipad.
It doesn't stick to the screen, the adhesive is on the outer edges and it basically lies on the screen -so no bubbles. you can even take it off and wash it.
I tried the Acase matte screen protectors on Amazon and they looked awful. They mute the color palette and give everything a fuzzy look. Tried the Acase clear screen protectors instead and they worked out fine. Can't see the fingerprints and the screen still looks good.
yeah matte will make it a bit fuzzy/greasy looking
the ezshield is matte

BoxWave Amazon Kindle Fire ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector
I really like how it fits, it really make the display look better.
Don't really care about scratches, but the reflections on the KF can be pretty annoying outside.
It's not really anti-Fingerprint but it's way more easy to clean.
It's also reusable.
I thk a screen protector is ideal if your banging it around or throwing stuff of it but other than theres no reason to really.
ive only had i protector on 1 one the phones ive had, all the rest of the stuff I dont have any SP on them.
I have never had any prob with the screen getting scratched.

Is it making the screen use better outside then? And what about the use inside?

I'd definitely speak against screen protectors; I purchased a highly rated myGear one with my Fire and noticed that though fingerprints didn't seem to appear as easily, they were almost impossible to wipe off completely. It also noticeably detracts from what is such a good screen.
I want to find a wet apply screen proctecor (Horrible at putting screen protectors on)that covers everything but the catch is i don't want a rubber feel to it i want it to feel like glass or smooth like plastic. I don't care about glare or finger prints because they can come off. Like I said all I want is wet apply,no rubber feel to touch, doesn't take away from the beautiful screen.
Please help and I looked at the poll they had but didnt hint on the info im looking for.

I have the XO Skin protector and while there is some tackiness to it, it's not as bad as others I've had in the past. I still use Swype without issue.
I don't think any of the wet application protectors available will suit your requirements. They all have some degree of "grip" to them. The only "smooth like glass" protectors I know of are dry applications.
Oh i see lol well what about the flex?

I find the XO Skins to be the most forgiving for micro bubbles under the screen protector. The only time that I haven't had a perfect application of the screen protector, was when I got a piece of lint or fiber under it.
Looks good and lasts pretty long with warranty to back it up. Only thing is its expensive compared to some you can find on ebay, but I believe there is a 40% discount code floating around somewhere from memorial day sale
XO skins man. Fits perfect and barely noticeable. If you use a case make sure you get the case fit. Love it. Used to have the zagg invisible shield but IMO opinion XO skins destroys it.

Do your fingers glide across it easily or does it kinda stick? I've put invisible shields on my phones before and I hate that its sticky (even when I first applied it) and the orange peel/yellowing effect
From what I know, the Flex HD is pretty smooth to the touch and you won't have to worry about any orange peel/yellowing effect because it's a high quality product.

not sure about the matte finish or the glide for you, but i can tell you i've had 3 screen protectors on my galaxy s3.
first there was the ZAGG. expensive, full body, etc. the screen protector was decent enough, very plyable and stretchy. uses that press and peel install method. cutouts for the phone suck though. they are cut-downs, not cut outs. more area is exposed than needed. i never did like the feel of it either once it was on. that and the store guy goofed the install, so...tore that off.
then there was the protector that came with Incipio case i bought. way different material. stiff and rigid, a harder plastic feel than the soft plyable ZAGG. i think this is that "crystal" type protector. but the cutouts were worse on this than the ZAGG. even more area exposed because of big cut downs on the top and bottom (lots of area exposed up top basically stretching end to end) i did install it though, and i liked the feel and glide more than the ZAGG. it seems more "slippery". unfortunately the top two corners never took (they are awfully pointy due to the big exposure up top). they seemed to be bent up in the packaging. and so that screen protector also came off (i do like the incipio case though).
now i'm onto the Skinomi. came with a skin. the cut outs are actual cut outs. no cut downs, no extra exposure. install was a little harder due to alignment, i swear i think they cut it small. i did get everything to line up eventually though. old school install with the spray bottle. material of the Skinomi is probably more ZAGG than Incipio-like, but it's not quite as plyable as the ZAGG. I do actually like the feel on my finger with the Skinomi. It's not the same feel as the Incipio though, it has a little more "sticky" to it than the hard protector did. pretty pleased with it tho, and it's working thus far.... :good:
anyway, if that helps, cool. if not, thanks for the vent.
Moshi is nice and anti glare... It does cover edge to edge but the blue trim covers up the blue pebble finish. I have the sgp nano optics on the way...

I saw in a review video from a guy who posted it on this forums said it had a rubber feel to it. I'm a swype user and I hate when my finger gets stuck because of that rubber feeling. When I felt matte for the first time, it glided so easily that I would never have problems swyping.

I was never a fan of Zagg products, until I had the HD screen protector installed on my S3. Perfectly clear, and its 100x smoother than regular Invisishield products. Id recommend it to anyone.
so I've had a chance to try a few different screen protectors already and I've found that the edge of the S3 display has a slight curve making it difficult for screen protectors to stay down.
the edges on 3 different sp's have done this. I've tried a full screen and then a few that were smaller than the display and still have issues.
The issue is that thick screen protectors just lift up off the curved display over time..
It sounds like wet SP installs are going good though?

I snagged the Incipio Sicrylic (sp?) off ebay. It's the soft rubber case with the two pieces. A snug rubber piece, and an outer "shell" that snaps onto the rubber case. Works really well actually. My daily case at the moment (better than the vent samsung with coin holder, and a straight skin from skinomi - i have the carbon skin)
I could post a link, but I'm a newb and so that's not allowed. I'll try to take a picture or sometghing and update this or my earlier post. Spent all this money on acc's...might as well share with folks so they don't have to repeat my mistakes....
and to the other poster who mentioned wet installs going well - i'll have to agree. vs the peel install on zagg, and the rgular install on the incipio crystal, i've ben happiest with my work and the protector after the wet install on the skinomi.
