Whats the best way and format partition type for SD card for an HTC EVO?
I format mine in Recovery.
Use the SD Formatter from the SD Association...
You can mount your SD card in Android or the Recovery and use the SD Formatter.

when I put the card into a card reader, the sd card can't be read, only can be format. But after I pressed format, it said it can't. What happen to my card? but if i connect my phone to computer, it can show all the files in the sd card.
The important question is that, I have rooted it, and i want to use app2sd. If i can't partition the sd card with ext2, i can't move apps to sd card. I have tried to use rom manager to partition it, but still can't. Any method other than buy a new card? thx~~
You need to flash amonRA's recovery.
Just do a search on the forum as there are a couple of how to's.
From there you can partition your card, verify your ext partition, upgrade from ext 2 to 3 and ext 3 to 4.
Good luck.
sometimes that can occur with a bad card reader. have seen it many times. the card reader will read some cards but not others.
Hi!
I formatted my SD card to use with A2SD earlier today in GParted, but I forgot to format the rest of the card to FAT32. Now my SD card says ReadOnly and I can't find the card on my computer...
Should I use a card reader or what should I do?
Thanks alot in advance!
By computer, do you mean your Windows, or in gParted?
Atfer i format my sd card by the computer , the partitions will have gone and i'll need to creat them again?
there are directions how to do that?
tnx very much!
You shouldn't need to create partitions on the SD card after you format it. In fact, you can format it from the phone too. >Settings >SD & Phone Storage >Unmount SD Card >Format SD Card

Click to collapse
the problem is that i cant choose "Format SD Card".
Only "Unmount SD card"..
Do as I said. You have to unmount before you can format.

Hello,
I have a 16gb SD card that I am trying to format. It has an EXT4 folder on it that I cannot delete. I cannot write to the SD Card as it is showing as in use.
I have a back up for my Desire but it is on my PC, therefore I cannot write this to the SD card. I can only access the SD card through my PC as when it is in the phone it will not mount.
Could someone explain how to delete the EXT4 folder so that I can write to the SD card? At the moment I have no Mobile!
Many thanks,
Simon

I guess you mean that you have an ext4 partition (formating normally doesn't care about folders).
I would suggest formatting the sd-card with an sd reader outside of your phone.
An alternative would be re-formatting your sd via recovery if you have clockwork mod installed. (or e.g. via adb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714)
OK, managed to delete the file through EXT4 Recovery and mounted to my PC. Thankd for the help by the way!
Simon.....
I have a small problem
I formated my internal SD card using twrp and now it only thinks that it has only 2 GB on the SD card (but it really has 16gb)
Because of that I can't make any backups, is there any fix or I wasn't supposed to format the SD through recovery?
It seems formating the SD card through the phones format setting worked
