Signal Bars - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason my signal bars keep changing colors. Almost like I am losing signal or something. I have Riptide9s ColorNClear theme and the bars keep changing from yellow to blue. I live 500 yards from a Verizon tower so there is no way I could be roaming is there? I don't understand what is going on!

Sounds pretty cool to me.

Ok, well maybe I should add that I keep dropping signal!

sounds pretty crazy, try dialing *228 and refreshing your tower configuration

Also *22899 is the number the tech support had me call before not sure if its different.

*22899 just skips the automated bs and goes right to updating

Well, go into Settings>Wireless and networks and somewhere in there there's the option to enable/disable roaming. Turn that off and see if it affects anything.
Anywhoo, the signalbars are extremely unreliable so I wouldn't put your faith in them unless it has 1 bar or none. Then you can get worried.

4G force app

Icant seem to find a way to force my g2 to stay in "4g"
Ihave full conection it just keeps bouncing back and fourth
Between 3g and 4g .. any help?
I dont know but all the roms do that and it does that to save battery, if it stays in 3G it means its just saving battery but when you go to an app that requires the web it goes to 4G for fasters speed.
So basicly devs made it like that to make your phone save battery.
My guess, dont quote me on that.

It switches whilst iam using the browser
And ialways get page load fails
Its switching as itype this
And when iuse my tether it still switches ..its rather annoying
What I did was download the app any cut and make a shortcut to the phone info setting. Once in there just switch from wcdma perferred to wcdma only and that should do it

*#*#4636#*#*
it will work until you negotiate a new tower, iirc.
Same

That happened fo me too. But I was getting the speed without the icon...it was only when it switchdd that it would f up. I just switchdd radios and downloaded the 4g app pack and it helpdd but didnt fix (only happendd with a couple roms) and on other roms it will say 4g but its a 3g speed...and that ciuld just be the nature of the beast...
Can't believe no one else in the know has commented on this. You c ant force it. PERIOD. That is not how hspa works. The phone plays a small part in the switch but MOST of it is up to the towers discretion. The tower switches you to hspa when the data throughput warrants it. This is a fact not just some crackpot theory. Save your time!
Lol to the person who said devs made it that way. Not making fun just laughing

Synergy roaming

Ive tried so hard to get an answer on this but the thread over there moves way too fast... Usually there is an option to select roaming only in roms.. which works for me because my house i get lil sprint or none so if i set it to roaming it saves battery and i can make n recieve calls... Any way to make this happen?

MOBILE DATA on darkside venom kernel 06.

Since flashing the new dark side kernel I get weird behavior from the mobile radio. It will show full bars of 3g then when I use the browser ,for example, it jumps to full bars of 4g(H). This happens with any network activity over cellular radio.
Is this normal behavior, .....for battery conservation?
Also in "settings"- then "mobile networks",...the "preferred network mode" is set to 'wcdma".
Should I use default setting or the other choice ,which is "LTE/GSM".
Thanks.
Any ideas. Anyone have same behavior? This is not really a problem, just unusual.

Use wcdma. T-Mobile doesn't have lte. And I don't think it's kernel related. I honestly think it's just that the ui isn't updating during sleep. Plus it naturally should go to 3g when not in use. Look up fast dormancy. I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about.

Thanks. Thanks for confirming. Both settings seem to work the same.

Cell data power consumption

Just wondering if anyone knows why when I turn of data especially, my phone can go 24 hours in one charge but leaving data on all the time diminishes the battery life. Is it a modem thing? I always had battery issue but turning off data seems to help a check lot. Thanks in advanced.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Do you often leave the coverage area? Because constantly searching for network when there is none will eat battery. Also If you have data on it will allow background apps to use the internet, which consumes power as well.
You probably are getting a much stronger signal when it isn't trying to stay connected to mobile data.
The weaker your signal the greater the battery drain. Often when you enable data you get a weaker sig.
Also make sure its not set to wcdma only.

I'm in pretty good coverage area.

It is pretty normal for you to have more battery consumption with the data on than off. I had a myTouch 3G slide that could go for 3 days if I left the data off. Check to see if you have any apps that are being synchronized too often because that could be causing your phone to die quicker than normal.
With data off apps can't update(refresh) right? That should keep them from waking the system up.

Try having wifi on when possible if you dont want to disable data.

lol! My slide was/is a beast! Dropped, kicked, slammed, scraped, you name it! Not a scratch on the glass! Cover looks like it was in an explosion!
Still use it for an alarm.

If they are set to sync they will still try. You have to turn off sync. But if they can't get out they still don't transmit so still less battery use.

Yeah that will probably fix the issue. When I was on TW, under the battery tab, I noticed that my phone would wake often during the night. Now with the data off, it stays asleep longer. I think ill have to use something like juice defender that enables and disabled data automatically

Cm10 and CM10.1

What is the trick to get the mobile data to kick in. The signal bars show signal but they are greyed out, not blue like when connected. I tried updating profile and prl but cannot connect even tried over WiFi but no luck. Sprint GNex GA02 modems.
I never had this problem with my OG Epic4g

The pick is not of the issue but that is what the bars look like this us pa3 with mobile data off
Try different radios. Fh05 work much better than ga02 for me
Ya in my area I don't have 4g yet so I rely on 3g for everything

Happened to me on BB7 and the fix was to change from LTE/CDMA to just CDMA (or vice versa) uncheck mobile data wait 15 or so seconds then turn it back on and then if/when I saw the 3g icon Id update profile then prl.
I have tried that, and mine still isn't blue. I switched from TouchWiz to CM10 last week and at first, the signal bars and WiFi indicator were both blue. Now they are grey. And yes, my Sync is on.

I worded that a little weird. At first, when I started using CM10, the indicators were blue. Now, they are grey.
