Hi, I currently have a HTC Desire and have now purchased another new HTC handset. Is there a way I can back up my current apps and data on my desire onto the SD card? I then want to put the SD card into the new handset so that it will have all my stuff.
Or is there another solution to transfer my data onto the new phone?
I don't want to have to spend ages customising my new HTC. I am very happy with my current settings and 7 home pages.
I assume you are rooted?
If yes either make a nandroid backup and restore it on the other phone or use titanium backup to backup all your apps and data and restore that on the new phone.
No not rooted. Any other way to do it?
Well titanium backup works well if rooted, but you can try even when it is not. When i was on the stock/non-rooted desire i used mybackup pro - and it backed up all my apps, tough not the data, only the installation files.

Thanks I will try those 2 apps. Im hoping it stores all my wallpaper and home page settings too.
Titanium backup does that (both) - but you have to be rooted for that.

Hey guys,
I have already rooted my friends phone with the 1.47.651.1 ota update and everything went fine.
My only problem is I have a lot of apps I don't want to loose, paid ones as well. Is there anyway to back these all up?
Obviously I have no problem getting the free ones back but if I had to delete the paid one is it possible to get it back without paying again?
Don't quote me on this, but i believe i have read in a few places around the forums that say you can redownload paid apps without paying again.
Did you just get the phone / have to run any of the OTA updates? It might be possible that the original unrevoked method can let you use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps, then you can run a root + nand unlocker & just restore your apps.
correct, paid apps are tied to your gmail account, so as long as you use that gmail account then you can re download any app you paid for.
I agree with Veritas - Titanium Backup will be your best friend if you plan to root, flash ROMs and so forth.
I've been using Titanium Backup since I got my EVO and I love it. Very easy to backup all user apps/data to the SD card. Once a new ROM is flashed, install Titanium Backup (your license key is located on your SD card, so as long as you dont format that, you should be fine. You can copy that file to your PC as well for a backup). Once the new ROM is up and running, simply do a Titanium restore of all user apps/data. If it werent for Titanium Backup, I would not be flashing custom ROMs as often as I do.
This takes a while but you can backup apps with most of the file managers on the market without root access. All it backs up is the apk though. Just use it for the free ones. After you root then titanium backup is your best friend

I'm quite happy I know how to de-brand using a gold card and Stock ROM image however is it possible to do this and keep all my settings/SMS etc?
I've got look out installed and keep the backup up to date, I've got appbrain so I can recover installed apps and I'm backing up to SD Card in privacy.
I'm not interested in rooting, just getting to Froyo as painlessly as possible.
Best bet to do that is get your hands on Titanium Backup Manager, backup apps and settings then install your Froyo of choice and then install Titanium again (unless it came with cooked ROM) and then restore from that backup
I have a UK Desire Z, which I love!!! I have been reading up on rooting, and after researching a lot, I have got ADB up and running and am now comfortable using it. The next step is to permanent root/s-off so that i can install gingervillain.
The questions I have is this. I have the 1.72 ota update, so Im going to have to downgrade to do all of the above, and with this will be wiping my phone. but I have a lot of apps and things on my phone. Contacts im not so worried about as it syncs with my gmail, and I will backup the sd card on my pc. But for all the apps and other settings, what is the best backup solution. i know of titanium backup, but with that can I back it up on 1.72 ota and restore it into gingervillain? I know once ive fully rooted it and installed clockwork mod recovery I can do a full backup of the phone, but is there an efficient way to migrate everything from my 1.72 to a new rom? I know I will be getting temproot first in 1.72, so can use things like titanium backup before the wipe.
Thanks
Titanium Backup works really well. Been using it for several months now. I bought the pro version for batch restore of apps.
You will be able to use it just fine to back up all your apps then restore them all together into any other ROM you flash. They all stay in the Titanium Backup folder on your SDcard. The nice thing about it is that it saves all the app data as well (assuming you choose to back that up), which allows your apps to be restored to the exact point at which they were on the original ROM (aka game save states, passwords, preferences, etc.)

Hi guys i've recently rooted my phone for the first time (all worked fine) and flashed the latest Android Revolution ROM. It installed fine however it seems to have wiped my phone eg i've lost all texts, apps, contacts etc. I backed up my sd card to ROM manager before i did the root however it isn't seeing the data.
Is there any way to retrieve this data, or is it all lost?
I've read countless pages in the Android Revolution HD thread, no-one else seems to have this problem...
You would have needed to backup all your apps, texts etc with specific backup apps, such as Titanium Backup and SMS Backup & Restore.
Your contacts should be backed up onto Google's servers, and should appear when you sign your Google account back in

I'm sure he meant he did it before he flashed a new ROM
Hey guys, sorry, to clarify i backed my sd card up before i flashed the ROM. I've managed to recover most of it. And i'm actually a she, which probably explains a lot...
Most confusing is that the android market on my phone is only showing about 1/4 of the apps i've previously downloaded for some reason. So i'm having to redownload everything and it's not combining with the backed up sd card app data.

The Market is buggy and annoying like this. Go to market.android.com, log into your phone, push all the apps listed in Titanium Backup that you want to restore via the market, which will usually be under the list of applications you already bought/installed on the top right corner of the website.
From there ONLY restore data for the applications to restore the application settings and such.
pretty much you got your answer from Hunter
do not rely on market for backing up,...invest few moneys in Titanium Back up and my Back up pro , trust me , is Well invested money
and most important...now that you are rooted learn to use the recovery and always do a NANDROID backup ( this backups internal phone CARD on your SD card )
things that were on your phone and you didnt back them up on your SD card are Lost

Oops sorry! I really shouldn't assume, that's bad of me
Hi.
I come from an HTC Desire and I have some backups that I made with MyBackup Pro of some app's data. Relevant data like some games progresses, Libra's database, etc. MyBackupPro has an online backup and I backed the data online on the HTC Desire and tried to restore it in the Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus recognizes the backup, shows the apps that are backed up, but when I press Restore it says that I should reboot the device and that the restore was OK almost instantaneously. Nothing is restored, no data is transferred to the phone..
Is there any other way to migrate this kind of data? Shouldn't MyBackup Pro be working on the Galaxy Nexus?
Thanks in advance
Anyone?
Maybe the app needs an update for ICS? Try to check their site to see if there's a reported problem, that's most likely the case.
Should have gone with Titanium Backup. I never had much luck with MyBackup anyway. Titanium is rock star on ICS.
The only problem Ive had so far has been restoring SMS with Pro.
Even with busy box installed its suuuper slow at the moment.
I sent them an email, I'll wait for an answer.. But I guess it is due to incompatibilities with ICS too..
AmesCell, I have always used MyBackup while using the Desire, never had a problem. Anyway, I still have the Desire and can use Titanium, but my Galaxy Nexus isn't rooted, and Titanium needs root.

Your signature says your Desire is rooted. Rooting the GN is easy. I go through 4 phones a year. I couldn't imagine doing that without Titanium.
Yes, the Desire is rooted, but I wasn't planning on rooting the GN so soon. I just got it 2 days ago and I want to see how this goes without any "hacks"..
I wouldn't have rooted the Desire in the first place if it wasn't for the lack of updates, etc... That's the main reason I bought the GN, having a more official support. Let's see, I'm almost sure that I'll root it in the future, but I don't want to do it right now.. I'll just wait for the Rerware answer to my email and see how it goes.
Thanks
Any update?
Rerware already answered, but no updates. Although I think I know what the problem is. I am only backup up app's Data, because they are already installed in the GN. But this is a "root only" feature and, for what I understood, non-rooted devices cannot restore this kind of backup, only APK backups. I asked this to the guys at Rerware to see if there is a workaround.
When I have news I'll post them here.

restoring your data/sms/backups is a "hack"
Hi,
Did you manage to find a solution to this problem? My phone is rooted and it still doesnt restore anything. Just like you said it finds the backup but then when you select the arrow next to apps to tick which ones you want to restore nothing is shown..
I need this to restore my game saves, spotify offline music etc
This happened to me with my sensation before. Somehow the backup got corrupted to I deleted it and started from scratch. Sorry to hear this happened to you it seriously sucks losing akk that stuff. What I've been doing is using from manager to restore my data partition and I've never had any issues SO FAR.
Enable advanced options, click restore and restore backup and only select the data.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I managed to solve the problem......
First my story:
I decided to install new ROM on my phone....i backed up apps and data with My Backup Pro (i bought the app)
My phone is rooted of course.
So i installed the new ROM and then i installed the My Backup Pro and started to restoring apps but i didn't get the app/data/app+data popup
and of course i couldn't restore my data from apps. i got really frustrated and browsed the web and couldn't find anything.
I started everything from the begining uninstalled all apps and figured it out that i did something wrong....and that is this that My Backup Pro doesn't work as it should without busy box...u have to install Busy Box before installing the My Backup Pro!
Follow this tutorial in order to restore your apps + data
Backing up apps on android (rooted) after installing new ROM
With My backup pro application
1. Backup apps + data
2. Backup dictionary
3. Backup all other data you want to
Install new ROM and then start restoring by this order
1. first install busy boxes i found there are two (BusyBox and BusyBox installer on the google store. install both)
2. install My backup pro and when asked to install additional options for rooted phone choose yes (now you should be able to choose between app/data/app+data to restore)
3. restore apps + data
4. thats it...enjoy!
It worked for me!! :good:
