Hi
Can someone help im trying to find the best kernel for gaming
Sorry to hijack your thread man, just trying to keep the forums clean as I also have a question about kernels.
I read recently that slow data transfer speeds via USB could be combated by using the vorkkernel. I installed it but didn't really see much improvement? Apart from my phone started to fecking melt! Anyone else get major heat issue with vork?
My question is apart from flashing the entire Rom again, has anyone got the stock Cyanogen 7 build 8 kernel or a less hot one than vork?
Sent from the back o beyond using the smell of burning plastic via a vork kernel'd desire, s-off, N1 table, CM7 build8.
OP : I'm not sure if gaming is affected by kernels? Isn't it down to cpu speed and processor size? Also dependant on your Rom I think?
Although I'm prepared to be corrected on this, I don't have much experience with kernel dabbling.

now keep in mind i am the noobest of noobs in modifying phones. i have an Epic 4g and haven't even touched the surface on it's potential apparently from reading through this forum.
my question is (before i start doing anything else to my phone) what exactly does a custom kernel do for your phone?
also what exactly does a custom rom do for your phone?
I am currently running a rooted Epic 4g w/cwm and i am on the DK28 build.
what else does everyone reccomend for me to get the full experience from my phone? (in the way of a custom kernel and custom rom, since i am pretty affluent to most apps at the moment)
Well a custom rom is usually optimized for speed and responsivenes. All roms are different since devs usually put there own mods and thems in. Some are completely stock temed others are themed fully. Depends on what your tastes are. As for kernals they're usually overclocked and undervolted which means it'll be overclocked to 1.2 or 1.3 ghz and run at the same power level as 1ghz or less. Usually gives faster phone with beter response and overall speed. (Opens apps quicker) hope this gives a little insight. I'm personally running epic experience 2.0.07 and genocide kernal overclocked to 1.2 ghz.(not undervolted at 1.2 ghz only at 1ghz so battery suffers a bit). Waiting for next epic experience release.

that does help tremendously! i had most of it figured out but i wanted to be sure as to what they meant. i appreciate the help and i will be trying the rom and kernel you suggested!
No problem man.

Hey,
So sorry for what probably seems like a dumb question. I'm usually a Vibrant guy, but I'm helping a buddy out with a G2/looking at the feasibility of getting one myself. I know at least for the Vibrant our normal kernels don't play nice with our version of CyanogenMod 7. I was curious if the same held true here? Or can I flash any kernel? Also, I see that there are different types based on the type of ROM, which is a new thing to a Vibrant owner. So can anyone recommend me a kernel? I'm pretty decent on flashing and all that, and recovering a brick (at least with my Vibrant). Basically I want the best bottom-line performance. I don't need extra bells and whistles, just a nice high clock frequency. Thanks!

If you're looking for a kernel for CM7, the kernel included is quite snappy though I personally run pershoot's kernel as he undervolts and has some other tweaks which improves responsiveness *and* battery life, at least for me.

CM7 already comes with its own custom kernel (which also supports some overclocking), so no need to flash a separate kernel if you don't want to. But as already mentioned, pershoot's works well too.
You can't flash any kernel. Some are Sense specific, and some are for non-Sense ROMs. Flashing the wrong one for your ROM can apparently brick the phone, so read thru the threads for the ROM and kernel you are interested in, to be sure. The ROM developer will usually have kernel recommendations, or you can see what kernels users of that ROM have tried.
Like stated above you will need to read the instructions and notes on the kernel thread. CM7 has special requirements. Other Roms don't need. but be very careful on what you flash!
Hi, my name is Dylan and im a noob. I searched the forums and couldn't find my answer if its out there could someone please link it, but if its not here goes..
Let me start off saying I'm fascinated by phone rooting and all the things that are possible and I'm so thankful for these forums so shout out to all the devs. My amazing girlfriend bought me my first smartphone for Christmas (dinc) and I'm amazed by it. Thanks to these forums I've successfully downgraded from 2.3.4 to 2.2 and rooted it. I'm obsessed with flashing roms now, but kushdecks ics has me I love the look, but sorry for the irrelevant info to my question. I'm using incredikernel ics idk the version its the latest one and I enabled zram overclocked to the Max setting and set to smartassv2. Now I was wondering is there any way to tweak it a little more to speed it up and get more out of the battery? I have the 2150 battery but it still drains it like a mug. And also my phone sometimes just freezes and I need to pop the battery out because it just totally lags out. Any fix to that as well? I already followed the setting guide with the wifi, sync, location etc. Thanks.

Well if you've been through the dislplay setting and cut the diplay to 15 % brightness sound like you've done that part well.
CPU settings, i prefer intellidemand but whatever floats your boat.
If you are determined to stick to ICS I suggest swithcing to Evervolv preview 7, its a bit farther along than ics inc deck in development.
If battery life is your top prority, I suggest switching to one of the AOSP gingerbread roms like CM7, Inc-Deck, or OMGB/OMFGB. they run great and no programs really hog battery.
Use adrenaline mod v13, since i began using it I've gotten better life. It can be found in POQbum's post at the top of the dev forum.
Finally, monitor your usage. Playing with your phone can be addictive, just remember that the display is usually the culprit behind poor battery life.
Good Luck!
What's evervolvs URL?

I might be wrong about this but I believe by overclocking you mean increase the CPU speed which in return will usually equate to lower battery life. That ROM is also still in alpha stage. Some roms with good battery life are miui, not the ics version, and some have great luck with CM7.
If you're desiring battery life, go to the cm7 nightly thread and use one of the kangs. Ics isn't ready for daily use quite yet

Hey Guys!
I have a VZW Galaxy Nexus rooted and running on CM 10.2 (Have no clue what kernel it's running). The phone is great but i'm having a lot of issues. My battery life is very very bad! I know the phone's battery already is terrible as is but mine is really bad. It's becoming more and more slugglish. I barely have any ram free.
My question is what do ya'll suggest is the best ROM, Kernel, etc for me to have on it. I know its off of preference but what i'm looking for is an increase in performance overall. There is a lot ROMs and Kernels out there but I just don't which ones are the best to use. I've thought of a lot of things but don't know what I should do. Under-volt the CPU? Change the kernel? Run a lighter ROM? Basically what ever it takes to get my phone running like most of the newer phones till my contract is over lol. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
Alex
Hi guys, like the title says, I would like to ask in the forum what kernel are you using and why.
Like everyone here I want performance/battery but for that some tricks need to be done, so maybe a small exchange of ideas would be good for all.
Thank you
SUPERXE for me at the moment. I've had practically zero heat or battery problems, plus it's overclocked.
